All the regular "rich" people are in competition with one another for the better tables and the cock measuring contest that is one upping the tables around you with your wine choice. The real VIP guests are usually businessman, or investors of the restaurant and are typically pretty nice and chill and much less flashy with their wealth. The more someone wants you to know how rich they are the less they are actually worth
I worked as a stock broker for about 20 years. I can tell you that the worst clients were people who had 200-500K....pushy, angry demanding....the customers that had real money were always cool, didn't get upset and understood that there are things out of anyone's control .
No need to hate them , earning money has nothing to do with manners and courtesy, value of these things is realised afterwards when you have to maintain that wealth after that initial success.
I’m a lawyer and what I have found out through my experience is that being arrogant is NEVER an option. If you really want to get your way, be the nicest you can be even if you face a negative response. They will feel less prone to say no but if they indeed say ‘no’, two things will happen: 1- you have been a nice human being to others; and 2- they’ll most likely remember you the next time, making it easier for you to convince them of whatever you want.

Before we knew it me and her were so engaged in the conversation i followed her. She scanned her ticket for 1st class and waited for me and my ticket was coach…all the way in the back 😅. She told the lady at the counter “oh that wouldn’t do he’s with me”. We talked for 4hrs straight in the plane enjoying ourselves. Turned out she was the CEO of this huge wedding planner organization that brings in millions each month. To this day she invites me and my wife to her property during the summers.

On the other hand, had a somewhat grubby truck driver walk in, ask if he could have his appointment early, and when I said we were really behind on time due to unexpected shipments, he said he'd go relax in the break room and wait. I managed to still get him in 15 minutes early and I thanked him for his patience. Turned out that he was covering the route for one of his employees who was sick. This grubby truck driver was the OWNER of a good-sized regional fleet. No ostentation, no "I'm important" vibes.

Yup my dad was on good terms with a guy who owns a string of rehab hospitals in Texas. We moved,7 years later he applied at the new hospital in town, to learn the same guy owned this one. He called my dad excited saying there's no reason for an interview and he will have his paper worked pushed through immediately. He started that job and on the first day the owners business partner flew in just to meet with my dad and even had the previous employee stay for a couple of weeks so my dad was familiar with the new hospital. There's a lot of cool rich people in the medical industry, probably more so than the stock market world

I lived in a very southern small town with a VERY VERY VERY wealthy oil tycoon. Dude loved to cosplay as an average farmer/rancher and one of his favorite tricks was to invite new upper management in his company to his ranch in the country for "team building". He'd arrange for the car(s) with the new hires to stop for gas about 30 minutes away from his ranch and since the ranch was in the actual middle of nowhere, it made sense for them to stop there. Usually the people going to the ranch would take this time to stretch their legs, go to the bathroom, exc. Normal stuff. He ALWAYS met them at this gas station dressed as a local yokel and did mildly annoying things like cut someone off or hum loudly, cause he wanted to see how they'd treat "average" people. It was his version of undercover boss. We all knew about this and enjoyed the show cause there was ALWAYS one person who decided to act like an absolute entitled ASSHOLE the the "redneck farmer". As soon as the asshole outed themselves you knew that person wouldn't have a job long.

Most of them ignored us locals like we didn't exist so he was there to try and provoke a response of some kind. He never took it too far or did anything mean, he just did the minor things that happen regularly in public spaces. "Accidentally" bumping into people, not moving up when the line moves, singing or humming out loud, snatching something seconds before someone else grabbed it, slightly rude nuisance behavior. Things to see who would still treat him kindly, who would ignore him, and who would snap into an entitled rage.

He never outright said this to me but I believe he intentionally put them in a stressful situation (aka meeting the boss), then provoked a response by providing a minor inconvenience cloaked in the form of someone "lesser" than them. From my view it's a great way to see how they'd treat any underlings if they are stressed and inconvenienced, something that would definitely happen in the job. I know from gossip that every person that came to the ranch did so when they were still in their probationary period before the final employment contract was signed. I think it was his way to ensure that workers were not treated poorly by management.

I agree. I sell my products to stores and have made friends with a lot of low level employees who become buying managers. Just because someone seems lower then you does not mean they will always be. And if they like you they remember you.

Quite a few had made a good impression with the GM; but the resume went into a veto pile if they had disrespected someone in the lobby, on the cleaning staff, or had poor interactions with the desk.
This is very true. 8 years ago I worked in a shop in Denmark and it was so clear that there was a difference between people who pretended to be rich and then people who were actually rich
One thing I learned growing up in and working retail in a high income area is that (especially teens btw) when someone wants to look rich, they are bad at acting rich. They tend to be a lot more inflated and snobby than people with a lot more money in my experience. The guy I know, his dad owns multiple successful franchises in the area. Whether we agree on anything political or not is not an issue, the kid and his family are friendly as shit and share what they have with me and my friends, and hate when you call attention to it, because they're just being friendly.

Worked security at a few shopping centers in Malibu. First thing I was told was not to harass anyone even if they look homeless (which there are quite a few living in Malibu). Sure enough, first day, two guys dressed in rags talking for hours at a Starbucks. Finally they left: one walked into his ferrari, the other walked into the bushes behind the Albertsons. That wasn’t the last time and I learned quickly that both those types of people are very down to earth and a hit to talk with. The rest of the people in Malibu are a miss.
Screw what he looks like. I have anxiety issues but still would be dying to ask him to hand it over for a few minutes so i can mend it. I work in a sewing department of a handicapped people manufactory and always have at least a emergency tailoring kit in my backpack or purse x) if he's so attached to the jacket that he can't part with it and tries to keep it together with clothpins then that probably means he's humble enough that having people spend time and work on that old thing is probably something he'd never ask. But i bet i got at least 10 minutes time and can at least mend and reinforce the worst parts! :3 is win win! I get to pacify my ocd issues about damaged clothes and he gets to enjoy his jacket way longer then it would hold with a army of metal pins! :D

Holy shit!!! This is way too accurate! I once dated a guy who took me to a whole bunch of fancy places to eat and it always made me so uncomfortable. I finally on the fourth date asked if we could just go to a burger joint and he laughed and told me sure. We were really chill at the place and he decided that he really liked it. Two weeks later I found out that he bought the burger shop and I got free burgers there to this day. I told him he didn't have to do that, but he told me that I deserved it and that he appreciated how honest and kind I was. He was sad that it wouldn't work out between us, but was grateful that I didn't want him for his money, but wanted to actually get to know him.
im a young entrepreneur and ask to speak with any successful person i come across and have never been told no. they are indeed "pretty chill" edit: by successful I mean an owner of several office strips/ commercial real estate broker, owner of an office maintenance company, and owner of trans am trucking company. all of them being multi-millionaires

I had this same experience when wrapping cars and boats for a living. The dude with a Corvette was hovering over your shoulder complaining every second trying to pinch every penny. The dude with a yacht comes in, chill and loves everything along the way and then invites me to go fishing lol.
Working in medicine, the only time a patient expressed an interest in me beyond "Get me my pain meds" was an older gentleman getting Chemo. Nice guy, very kind. i was checking in on my mom, who was getting Chemo at the same hospital, and i ran into him, we chatted. When my mom lost her battle, i was worried about medical bills. But that old man paid her entire bill, and donated over 2m to the charity we named in her obituary (in place of flowers). I only know his name from his medical documents. but he was filthy rich. He did eventually pass away, and while hes not around, he was a private man, who didnt flaunt his wealth like a lot of rich people, so i will respect his choice in life by not naming him.
I greatly enjoy these. The message is: a) don’t be an a$$hole and b) you never know who you are going to meet or need in this life, so a) applies all the time.
I work at a sale barn, we sell cattle. I love it when people say "do you know who I am" like I give a fuck, you could be the queen of England, but at the end of the day, you're getting in line like everyone else. " I spend more money here than anyone else", "I'll tell your boss". Gimme the phone I'll him. Anyone who has ever tried to use authority of the employees, is no longer welcome on property. We have a really good boss where I work. He treats everyone as equals, including customers. It's a " if you want it your way go to burger king" kind of thing. Doesn't matter if you spend 2 million dollars a day on cattle or .02 cents a day
If you got someone thats instantly being a dick, they are most likely not at the top or wont get there. Generally no use getting upset over them, all that does is make your day worse. The genuine people that can help get you forward in life and that have PROPER success are generally respectful and wont make you feel like shit. In my experience, theyll know when to let someone go or just not bother because the other person isnt trying but if you genuinly try, they see.
I worked at a couple of, "headquarters," offices when I lived in SF, CA. It was fairly common to share the elevator with the CEO and other executives. I always behaved professionally in the work place at all times, so I never had an issue. It amused me to see some coworkers panicked in trying to avoid the interactions while still getting down and back in time to enjoying their nicotine fix within our scheduled breaks. 😊 I also frequently interacted with an owner of our regional hotel chain. I preferred him and his family far more than his brother, the co-owner. Ugh. That guy and his family were to be avoided at all costs. Early '90s entitlement to the extreme.
In the Engineering discipline, talk to a successful person "hey can we chat?" And usually, even sometimes when they're super busy, they're down to talk and chill for a bit. Most successful people are, well, successful! They aren't stressed and would love to talk to aspiring person in a similar field. It is fun, you get interviewed and sometimes the young person gives you ideas about new technology you weren't aware of, or a new application of technology you haven't thought of. It's a win/win and you get to be interviewed by a person who had the drive and want to talk to you. So yea. The "really rich" are chill. :)
I was working security in. 5* hotel in London. Just helping out my old boss as I had moved on a couple of years before, but hey, the suit still fitted me! Called to the main dining area as someone was making a fuss. This pencil neck in a off the peg suit was trying to impress his (very red faced) date by being an ass. I ask him to tone it down and he goes " Do you know what I do for a living! I am a solicitor!" to which I pull out my Law Society membership card and go "So am I now put a sock in it or first thing Monday I contact your senior partner!" His date started to goggle and he stormed off. Like I said I had moved on and just qualified!
That final joke was great when i first saw it and its still great today. I also love how this shows that simply being kind can get you further in the right places than being rich.
My brother works at a country club. He went from a caddy to a waiter to now a bartender. He always talks about the nice members he serves. There's one guy who is very well-known in our city and very wealthy who frequents to club. My brother loves when that guy comes in because he's genuinely nice, gives great advice, and tips very well. This guy was actually upset when my brother stopped being a caddy because my brother was his favorite caddy. Now my brother is his favorite bartender lol.

Bartended for one of the top city clubs in the country and for me it’s not a distinction between rich and very rich but rather young money and old money, basically how it is in the Great Gatsby. Young money forgives mistakes as they were there before but think having money means they can do anything so long as they pay. Old money has really high expectations but they understand the practicalities of the staff and establishments
My mom pointed a man one time that looked homeless. He had old fashioned clothes on that didn't fit him that well and kind of shuffled around. There's a REALLY rich guy here I know, but if you saw him around you'd never notice he was rich unless he was in one of his cars (saw him driving a Lamborghini Miura this summer). There's a less rich guy I met once who owned a porsche only wrecking yard, my dad and I walked in there once with like $800 cash in hand to get a steel wheel and a door handle and the guy went off before we even told him what we wanted. We just walked out, then met another Volkswagen guy about 10 minutes from my house who gave us the handle for free and said "just bring me another one if you happen to find one".
So moral of the story is be nice to service workers. Good point, I always try to be nice to them. Just the other day a travel agent got me $300 off my flight because I was calm and patient with him. I feel we've forgotten how to treat eachother as fellow humans

I was once in a fancy hotel, saw someone who looked like staff member in jeans and a tshirt in the hall and told him my television wasn't working - he came in and fixed it himself. I later found out he was the owner!

I lived in a very southern small town with a VERY VERY VERY wealthy oil tycoon. Dude loved to cosplay as an average farmer/rancher and one of his favorite tricks was to invite new upper management in his company to his ranch in the country for "team building". He'd arrange for the car(s) with the new hires to stop for gas about 30 minutes away from his ranch and since the ranch was in the actual middle of nowhere, it made sense for them to stop there. Usually the people going to the ranch would take this time to stretch their legs, go to the bathroom, exc. Normal stuff. He ALWAYS met them at this gas station dressed as a local yokel and did mildly annoying things like cut someone off or hum loudly, cause he wanted to see how they'd treat "average" people. It was his version of undercover boss. We all knew about this and enjoyed the show cause there was ALWAYS one person who decided to act like an absolute entitled ASSHOLE the the "redneck farmer". As soon as the asshole outed themselves you knew that person wouldn't have a job long.
You never know how someone will act until you show up looking lower class and watch as they are asshole he should also ask the staff there how these people treated them

Most of them ignored us locals like we didn't exist so he was there to try and provoke a response of some kind. He never took it too far or did anything mean, he just did the minor things that happen regularly in public spaces. "Accidentally" bumping into people, not moving up when the line moves, singing or humming out loud, snatching something seconds before someone else grabbed it, slightly rude nuisance behavior. Things to see who would still treat him kindly, who would ignore him, and who would snap into an entitled rage.

He never outright said this to me but I believe he intentionally put them in a stressful situation (aka meeting the boss), then provoked a response by providing a minor inconvenience cloaked in the form of someone "lesser" than them. From my view it's a great way to see how they'd treat any underlings if they are stressed and inconvenienced, something that would definitely happen in the job. I know from gossip that every person that came to the ranch did so when they were still in their probationary period before the final employment contract was signed. I think it was his way to ensure that workers were not treated poorly by management.

Quite a few had made a good impression with the GM; but the resume went into a veto pile if they had disrespected someone in the lobby, on the cleaning staff, or had poor interactions with the desk.

One thing I learned growing up in and working retail in a high income area is that (especially teens btw) when someone wants to look rich, they are bad at acting rich. They tend to be a lot more inflated and snobby than people with a lot more money in my experience.
The guy I know, his dad owns multiple successful franchises in the area. Whether we agree on anything political or not is not an issue, the kid and his family are friendly as shit and share what they have with me and my friends, and hate when you call attention to it, because they're just being friendly.

Worked security at a few shopping centers in Malibu. First thing I was told was not to harass anyone even if they look homeless (which there are quite a few living in Malibu). Sure enough, first day, two guys dressed in rags talking for hours at a Starbucks. Finally they left: one walked into his ferrari, the other walked into the bushes behind the Albertsons. That wasn’t the last time and I learned quickly that both those types of people are very down to earth and a hit to talk with. The rest of the people in Malibu are a miss.

Screw what he looks like. I have anxiety issues but still would be dying to ask him to hand it over for a few minutes so i can mend it. I work in a sewing department of a handicapped people manufactory and always have at least a emergency tailoring kit in my backpack or purse x) if he's so attached to the jacket that he can't part with it and tries to keep it together with clothpins then that probably means he's humble enough that having people spend time and work on that old thing is probably something he'd never ask. But i bet i got at least 10 minutes time and can at least mend and reinforce the worst parts! :3 is win win! I get to pacify my ocd issues about damaged clothes and he gets to enjoy his jacket way longer then it would hold with a army of metal pins! :D

Holy shit!!! This is way too accurate! I once dated a guy who took me to a whole bunch of fancy places to eat and it always made me so uncomfortable. I finally on the fourth date asked if we could just go to a burger joint and he laughed and told me sure. We were really chill at the place and he decided that he really liked it. Two weeks later I found out that he bought the burger shop and I got free burgers there to this day. I told him he didn't have to do that, but he told me that I deserved it and that he appreciated how honest and kind I was. He was sad that it wouldn't work out between us, but was grateful that I didn't want him for his money, but wanted to actually get to know him.

When my mom lost her battle, i was worried about medical bills. But that old man paid her entire bill, and donated over 2m to the charity we named in her obituary (in place of flowers).
I only know his name from his medical documents. but he was filthy rich.
He did eventually pass away, and while hes not around, he was a private man, who didnt flaunt his wealth like a lot of rich people, so i will respect his choice in life by not naming him.

I work at a sale barn, we sell cattle. I love it when people say "do you know who I am" like I give a fuck, you could be the queen of England, but at the end of the day, you're getting in line like everyone else. " I spend more money here than anyone else", "I'll tell your boss". Gimme the phone I'll him. Anyone who has ever tried to use authority of the employees, is no longer welcome on property. We have a really good boss where I work. He treats everyone as equals, including customers. It's a " if you want it your way go to burger king" kind of thing. Doesn't matter if you spend 2 million dollars a day on cattle or .02 cents a day

I worked at a couple of, "headquarters," offices when I lived in SF, CA. It was fairly common to share the elevator with the CEO and other executives. I always behaved professionally in the work place at all times, so I never had an issue. It amused me to see some coworkers panicked in trying to avoid the interactions while still getting down and back in time to enjoying their nicotine fix within our scheduled breaks. 😊
I also frequently interacted with an owner of our regional hotel chain. I preferred him and his family far more than his brother, the co-owner. Ugh. That guy and his family were to be avoided at all costs. Early '90s entitlement to the extreme.
In the Engineering discipline, talk to a successful person "hey can we chat?" And usually, even sometimes when they're super busy, they're down to talk and chill for a bit.
Most successful people are, well, successful! They aren't stressed and would love to talk to aspiring person in a similar field.
It is fun, you get interviewed and sometimes the young person gives you ideas about new technology you weren't aware of, or a new application of technology you haven't thought of.
It's a win/win and you get to be interviewed by a person who had the drive and want to talk to you.
So yea. The "really rich" are chill. :)
I was working security in. 5* hotel in London. Just helping out my old boss as I had moved on a couple of years before, but hey, the suit still fitted me!
Called to the main dining area as someone was making a fuss. This pencil neck in a off the peg suit was trying to impress his (very red faced) date by being an ass. I ask him to tone it down and he goes " Do you know what I do for a living! I am a solicitor!" to which I pull out my Law Society membership card and go "So am I now put a sock in it or first thing Monday I contact your senior partner!" His date started to goggle and he stormed off.
Like I said I had moved on and just qualified!

My brother works at a country club. He went from a caddy to a waiter to now a bartender. He always talks about the nice members he serves. There's one guy who is very well-known in our city and very wealthy who frequents to club. My brother loves when that guy comes in because he's genuinely nice, gives great advice, and tips very well. This guy was actually upset when my brother stopped being a caddy because my brother was his favorite caddy. Now my brother is his favorite bartender lol.
The problem with this, is that they are not in comparable scenarios.
Best way to use f you money is when the other person thinks they could be in trouble but no real threat is made. It’s as if they wading into water and suddenly they can’t touch the bottom. Scary, but lend a hand and bring em back and the atmosphere is pleasant for you and them.
My friend used to chill out near a luxury mansion area and he loved to buy snacks from a food stall in front one of a big mansion, owned by an old man, snacks was cheap and delicious. Bartended for one of the top city clubs in the country and for me it’s not a distinction between rich and very rich but rather young money and old money, basically how it is in the Great Gatsby. Young money forgives mistakes as they were there before but think having money means they can do anything so long as they pay. Old money has really high expectations but they understand the practicalities of the staff and establishments

There's a REALLY rich guy here I know, but if you saw him around you'd never notice he was rich unless he was in one of his cars (saw him driving a Lamborghini Miura this summer). There's a less rich guy I met once who owned a porsche only wrecking yard, my dad and I walked in there once with like $800 cash in hand to get a steel wheel and a door handle and the guy went off before we even told him what we wanted. We just walked out, then met another Volkswagen guy about 10 minutes from my house who gave us the handle for free and said "just bring me another one if you happen to find one".
