    What UA-camrs Don't Tell You About AI Art:
    1.Approval required: To sell on most major Print on Demand (POD) platforms, you need to be accepted as a seller or artist beforehand, which can take a significant amount of time depending on demand.
    2.High competition: There is an immense amount of competition, and AI-generated art is not as profitable as it may seem, since the market is saturated and professional designers are earning their living in the same space.
    3.Clickbait videos: UA-camrs who create videos with thumbnails displaying specific numbers like '$7748.39' are selling a dream and making money off your clicks.
    4.Passive income potential: cmon be real here, the market is saturated hope of selling anything, or else your pieces will be lost among the countless others.
    5. Competition: and lack of promotion on side of platforms, i have uploaded 1000 full fledges designs with perfectly optimized SEO. Guess what i have zero sales. why, because anyone can do it nowadays.
    6. Research: Plus, they skip the research part which is the very first step and the foundation of all your actions.

    Thanks to Sarah for clarifying that POD, profit margins are usually somewhere between 15-50% and so the headline revenue figure of $10,413 a month at 2:45 translates to a likely profit somewhere between $1,562 and $5,207 a month.

    Just FYI - The background removal tools like 'Remove Background' and 'Photoroom' online *DO NOT* allow you to use any content that you upload using their tool, like removing white backgrounds from midjourney, you cannot then use that content with the background removed for commercial use.
    Personal use only.
    If you upload to Photoroom, they also take it a step further and allow other people who use their platform to also use your images as they wish and Photoroom also can do it as well. See their Terms: "you grant us the right and license to use, modify, publicly perform, publicly display, reproduce, and distribute such Content on and through the Service. You retain any and all of your rights to any Content you submit, post or display on or through the Service and you are responsible for protecting those rights. You agree that this license includes the right for us to make your Content available to other users of the Service, who may also use your Content subject to these Terms."
    And from Remove.bg terms: "2.1. The User may use the platform which is accessible under remove.bg exclusively for non-commercial purposes. This means that all results from the platform (hereinafter: the Platform) may only be used privately. Use for (direct or indirect) commercial purposes is excluded."
    So I personally would avoid those background removal tools for commercial purposes or you could get yourself into legal trouble.

    Tried setting up my own POD tshirt business a little while back. Problem is that the margins are tiny. Nobody buys listings of over £20 or so for a tshirt even if its unique. Lowering the price to say £15 got me sales but after fees I was left with about £1. One single return wipes out 15 sales

    • @WholesaleTed

      People do indeed buy t-shirts priced at £20 or higher. I and others sell our t-shirts for above those prices every day. It's about how you position yourself. Most people try to race to the bottom with prices, assuming that price is what stops people from buying, when in reality, having the lowest price can actually hurt your sales. I discuss that in this video here: ua-cam.com/video/JL3njtFTRG4/v-deo.html

    I like the video (as i do all of them) but you have got some incorrect details regarding the creation of images. the biggest mistake is that midjourney does not give unlimited free images, there are a number of free trial images yes but once these are used up you need to purchase a plan. The plan(s) give you a certain amount of time on the GPU's that Midjourney use, you can have 'fast' and 'slow', yes the 'slow' option is unlimited but will take longer to generate images compared to the fast method, the fast method gives you 5hours of time p/m and takes approx 1;30 minutes per image and if you choose the high quality setting it will cost you double - X2.
    I feel it important to highlight these facts as from being a MidJourney user i know that there are limits, even to the paid subscriptions and whilst i dont think you mean to mis-inform (and i dont for one moment!), from the video i got the impression that midjourney had lots of 'free' settings and i think this might confuse newbies.
    Your vids are awesome Sarah, keep them coming ❤

    I barely write on UA-cam videos but I thought to share my experience. I firstly have to say that you have inspired my to create an etsy store and I've got 200 sales over 2 years and I'm now actively pursuing this more. However, I do have to say that whilst you are sharing valuable insights and tips and are a great presenter I can't help but feel irritated at your recent videos claiming 10k sales in a week or similar. Yes etsy can go viral for some but it's rare. Let's break down 10k sales / 30 usd is 333 order per week. Say 1k orders per month. Do you know how unrealistic these figures are for viewers? Etsy ain't a sprint its a marathon and tons of obstacles for new shop owners. Even POD stores, etsy fees etc from 30 usd leaves the owner about 10 usd, so your claim at receiving 10k is way overrated. Plus there are many people doing this making the market competitive and anyone with a bit of knowledge do all of this themselves. Again, I really do admire your videos and they have helped me but I feel at this stage UA-cam is now for clicks.

    • @WholesaleTed
      @WholesaleTed  Рік тому +45

      I will be honest: I don't think that this is fair. It is an expectation these days to have exciting, interesting, curiosity driven titles. If I didn't have them, nobody would click. I think we should all understand that any content creator needs to have exciting, curiosity driven titles and if they don't, then they would get no views, and would stop making videos. I would stop making videos, and stop sharing my content, because nobody would watch it anymore. So unless I can continue to use interesting, curiosity driven titles - I will have to stop making videos.
      Secondly, I also don't think it is fair because this video is not a video discussing average timelines for success. That is not the topic of this video. The topic is that AI art can match the quality of art seen in top selling designs. And it's true that some of my viewers DO have fast success. It does not have to take time. That is a strange myth that people have: that success HAS to take "time." I have had plenty of subscribers like Skuu Digital (see comments on this video: " ua-cam.com/video/7ZlZFPBWC74/v-deo.html ") who have had overnight success. However, that is obviously not the norm, and this video does NOT talk about timelines for building a successful store. That is a separate video, for a separate discussion. This video is all about creating great t-shirt designs using AI art & showing you can create similar quality to top-selling t-shirt designs using it. I would just ask that people allow me to make videos on different topics. I have videos that discuss normal timelines & discuss why some people have fast success, but most don't. You can watch my entire video on that one specific subject here: ua-cam.com/video/A-bQFXWppoA/v-deo.html 🙏

      @Wholesale Ted I appreciate the reply but there are a few things. You've stated in the title that you could get 10k/week, most people who click are trying to make extra income and get rich quick which is fair enough, but it's an extremely unrealistic point. I personally watch videos with the idea to build overtime, if it happens quick then cool but I know from experience this doesn't happen. Most of your audience, without sounding bad, are looking for this stuff. I'm saying that sure you can make titles, thumbnails to get people to click and be entertaining but you can be much more valued if it was more realistic. Its like saying 'hey, in 1 week you could earn enough to buy this brand new car', which we know most people couldn't even achieve it. I subscribe to channels who have 30k subs and they are very realistic.

      All in all, I think most of us tend to often be critical to others rather to ourselves. And I definitely do not think we should put ourselves down etc ... but simply - if we see that our approach hasn't worked for a month or two - why not change it? Maybe entirely, maybe partially? Etsy not working for me - let me try a different platform, a different product ... Also, success definitely requires some level of perfection (time invested in doing things well, trying things out for ourselves. How many people never order a single T-Shirt they're selling, for example, just to see how it actually turns out ...)

But I do want to branch out to Etsy and/or my own website someday. My question is, where would I redirect my customers, on my social media platforms, once I have these three shops set up? The obvious answer is definitely my own website, but what about the two, do i just ditch them and let SEO do its thing? Wouldn't people following my social media accounts be confused that I have a lot of links to different shops?

    Worth doing if you're bored I guess, could get a few lucky sales with some unqiue ones like I did, but honestly 90% of them don't get touched. My problem is that I don't care, I just get a few lucky hits every now and then, and honestly I doubt I'm the minority. You just have to keep firing designs and see what sticks. Note, AI images cannot be copyrighted in anyway shape or form.

    • @WholesaleTed
      @WholesaleTed  Рік тому +6

      You can create your own unique images, by combining pictures/elements together, including AI art. I'll be making more t-shirt designs in my next video and the unique designs I'll be creating will be copyrighted, even though the individual AI pictures I use themselves don't meet the copyright standard as they are computer generated.
      It's also important to note that unless you state it is AI art, no one knows it is an AI generated picture.

      @@WholesaleTed I feel like an idiot creating my own designs by myself from scratch when plenty of people now just generates images thanks to Ai, add something else so they can claim it’s theirs (I mean, just add some copyright free elements and edit on Canva) and skip the copyright thing by not saying it’s Ai generated art. Guys, SO SMART! Problem is UA-cam keeps showing me this shitty videos on how to earn 10000dollars a month with 10% of the skills actually needed to actually MAKE something, create 50 designs in 10 minutes and be an “artist”. For sure, you can generate great stuff but I am totally against this kind of use of Ai, sorry but not sorry. I guess this kind of business is not really for companies as clients (you should recreate you Ai motif to be really copyrighted if you are able to) but for who wants to purchase a whatever product which is ok. If someone knows or spots it’s Ai generated, why don’t just take advantage like you guys are doing? Pretty fair!

    • @WholesaleTed
      @WholesaleTed  Рік тому +1

      Ah yes it is not free, that is why in this video I state that it costs money. At 5:20 I show the subscription plans, and at 7:11 I call it a paid app, not a free app. As the subscription plans at 5:20 show, Midjourney do have a free trial, and I did get to use it, but comments on this video indicate they may have temporarily closed the free trial due to overly high demand. However, as I stated at 7:11 I consider this a paid app, not a free app, and so I recommend treating it as requiring a monthly fee even if they do reopen free trials, since as I showed at 5:20 the free trial accounts don't have the same features as the paid plans.

    Good video Sarah! Midjourney and Discord are both not very user friendly. You can feel their attitude problem when you read the terms and conditions. It's only a matter of time before another platform solves that problem and adds other tools like background remover. It's nuts having to jump onto another platform to do simple stuff.

    Love the video but in the Midjourney Terms and conditions the free account does not let you generate for commercial licence which is very misleading in your video.

    • @WholesaleTed
      @WholesaleTed  Рік тому

      I just want to clarify this video, I never called Midjourney free and I did not imply it was free:
      1) At 7:11 I directly call it a paid membership. I say it costs money, not that it is free.
      2) At 5:20 I show the pricing plans.
      3) Nowhere in my title/description does it state that Midjourney is free.
      At 5:20 the subscription plans do show a free trial. That trial is, however, shown to not come with the same features as the paid plans. I can see from the comments that some people have tried to register for the free trial, but it is now temporarily closed due to high demand (this was not stated on the website when I made the video, otherwise I would have shown that too). However, as 5:20 shows it doesn't have the same features as the paid plans, I therefore do not consider the app free, which is why at 7:11 I directly call it a paid app. One of those missing features being, of course, the commercial license.
      I do understand that in this video, while I did not call it free, I did not directly state it isn't free either in the title and only discuss the paid plans half way through the video.
      Perhaps because I make a lot of videos on free apps, people assume that all apps I discuss are free. That is an understandable interpretation given how many videos on free apps I have in this library.
      From my perspective, in my UA-cam dashboard, it shows me what other videos my subscribers are watching, and it showed that a majority of them are watching Midjourney videos. And so I also made the assumption that my subscribers knew what Midjourney already was, and therefore had to know it is not free, which is why I don't directly state it's price, I thought it was well-known information at this point. I did not want to bore people going over it's price in detail, since I thought people already knew this, and instead just wanted a tutorial to directly help them with an app they are already using and paying for.
      I can see the confusion on both sides: my subscribers being confused because I make so many videos about free apps, and me being confused because I can see so many subscribers are using the app already.
      On a personal note, I do wish that the people who assumed I didn't discuss the price until half way through was for malicious reasons, would give me the benefit of the doubt. Some people have assumed I was purposefully misleading. Whereas in reality, I didn't discuss the price until half way through, because I was trying to be empathetic and not bore people with information I assumed they already knew. I went into this with good intentions. There is often an innocent reason for why people make decisions and I was surprised more people assumed that I did it to maliciously be deceptive 🙏
      I will take this into account and be more careful next time I make a video about a new app/website to ensure that it is clarified that any app/website I use that isn't free, is directly stated to not be free 🙏🙏🙏

    If you change the opacity of something you want to print on a shirt, does it come out as desaturated as much as you have the opacity set to? Or does it not change how vibrant the actual products colors will be?

    • @WholesaleTed
      @WholesaleTed  Рік тому +2

      Opacity doesn't print amazing with DTG printers, it prints as less vibrant and can be fuzzy . For some art styles it's impossible to avoid and I do have designs that use it and customers for those don't mind, but where possible, I print with full opacity.
