@@bakaweiner6956 Sad story but not really the same at all. He was still playing football. This guy was forgotten about by the world until tragedy happened.
Damn his life sounds like an emotional and tragic movie. I think a movie should be made on his life..I think his story deserves a greater audience and more people should know about him.
I'm from derry and my old R.E teacher was best friends with Adrian's brother and told us his story a few years ago apparently he was far happier after his injury as he didn't enjoy football anymore. So at least there's a small upside to the story.
So true but that's life. If you think about it, there are also 'reverse' 'could've been' stories but I don't know the correct term tho. Just like Andrew Robertson. A CL winner with a past almost nobody knew.
That's how pyramid system works. Only exceptional athlete could breakthrough even only to make it to the first team line up. Let alone shaking the world. But those who failed are multi thousands.
Such a tragic story. Sounds like a lad like him deserved so much more in life and in death, but these stories just remind you on how unpredictable and how unfair life is.
I'm from Strabane and have heard the stories of Adrian from my dad and granda. Such a sad story. Mad to think what he'd have become without the injury even though he was generally happy off the pitch. Thanks for this video.
For every Ryan Giggs or Raheem Sterling, there are 10 Adrian Doherty's. Kids with massive potential, but never make it due to injury or otherwise and fade into obscurity.
I went to school with a kid who really could've been a Zlatan, Suarez or Lewandowski, he was a beast. Its quite sad actually, he'd regularly trained with the England U16s at the age of 14, he played for the Nottingham Forest academy etc.But in his mid teens he befriended the wrong crowd. By the time he was 18, he'd been released by Forest because of his off field antics. He's now serving 10yrs sentence for his role in a £1,000,000 cocaine distribution plot. It just baffles me. He had the talent but, it just seems like he enjoyed drug dealing even more.
If you look further into his story, he was actually better than Giggs. I do understand what you mean though, just sounded like you are belittling the actual talent this guy had.
Again, it's always nice to hear something that you never knew before, especially if it gets you thinking questions such as "What if?". I love this video, nearly brings a tear to my eye. Well done Tifo, and RIP Adrian.
Knees are incredible, I was told I sprained mine when I was 15 and to rest it be fine. A year later I failed my army medical because of it and they told me I’d probably need surgery, went to see a knee specialist and he popped my knee out of place and then back, never had any problems since... I also never got sent to Afghanistan because I didn’t join the army in the end
I am in love with all videos of this kind that tifo does. It feels amazing to know the stories of footballers. So many look upto them all over the world. Adrian Doherty's story is indeed unique, showing the possibilities of life. May his soul rest in peace. THANK YOU TIFO.

James Bennett-Mcnulty don’t forget Newcastle were for sale at that time for roughly the same price but Ashley couldn’t find a buyer. Now they’re being sold for £350 million.
I used to Watch Adrian play alongside Brendan Rodgers (Who then went to Reading) as my Older brother Captained the Moorfield FC team. I used to get brought to all their games as a child & remember how pacy & skillful Adrian was. He would torment any team on his own on his mazy runs... And you just knew the end product was going to end in a Goal. Unreal player of his generation.. and a Joy & Pleasure to have witnessed it. A quiet boy he was but did his talking on the Pitch. R.I.P Adrian.
A fellow Tyrone man told me to read this book when we were in the pub when living briefly in Canada. He told me it was a story of a young man who came from where we did who would’ve been the best player to come from here since George Best. A year later that friend tragically drowned, horribly similar to what happened to Adrian. Life is fragile. Cherish those close to you. RIP Adrian. RIP Lee.
True story of just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you SHOULD. Regardless of his footballing talent, his heart lay elsewhere. Not many 16 year olds would have the stones to turn their back on the lights of the Premier League like he did. Hope he found peace before he passed.
The sad truth about football and sports, you could be talented, hard-working and do everything right, but just one wrong injury and everything could end just like that. RIP Adrian Doherty
I used to watch Adrian in the youth team at United, a family friend was the goalkeeper in that team (Ian Wilkinson, whose own story is also pretty sad from a football perspective). Adrian was easily the standout performer in that team, ahead of Ryan Giggs (or Ryan Wilson as he was known at the time), Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes, Robbie Savage, etc. David Beckham wasn't even a regular starter in that team! Such a sad story that first his career was lost to injury and then his life lost at such a young age. What could have been. RIP Doc!
This was a beautiful video. Devastating. The beauty of football and art bound together for such an insignificant life that could've meant so much but instead meant more. Thank God he didn't go unnoticed. Do a thing on Ben Thornley, another great United Class of '92 prospect for whom injury ruined everything.
I'm a united fan but making it in football is not the only thing in the world. He sounds a talented lad and a great young man who deserves to be remembered for what he did in life not for what he didn't.
Such a sad story, couldn't watch on without welling up at the end. Have to read the book now. Poor lad, such a shame what could've been with Him and Giggsy tearing it apart on both wings. RIP Adrian.
What a special day to produce this clip something awesome to watch .... it’s an early birthday gift from Tifo , for me and Adrian since we share a birthday 10 June
I don't care much for the tactical videos or the sensible transfer series. Give me more of this content please! A Tifo Football Brief History playlist is the best thing on UA-cam
I never knew any of this what an amazing kid and young man so sad the ending what could have been rest in peace young man you are a great loss but your soul is in a better place
After seeing the comments from Luke Chadwick about how the constant scrutiny affected his mental health. I can't help but think how difficult it must be to have books/videos/articles about your 'failures'. Especially when your peers has been so successful in their field.
Possible. This is what happened to Bojan in Barcelona, he broke a ton of records at youth level and everyone expected him to perform as well as Messi, the pressure was too much and he couldn't handle it
What a sad story! So many young footballers had their careers cut short by injuries and they never recovered and had to exit the beautiful game. It shows how unpredictable life can be.
He was just like me as a kid. Loved music, bright, and a great football talent but ruined by injuries. In my case, seizures and epilepsy caused by hereditary genes ruined my career.
What a sad story. It seems that his passion for football wasn't born out of a love to make it his career; but he sounded incredibly talented in so many facets that the injury, while crushing, isn't what made him the human he was. Fiction, poetry, guitar... Just a wholly rounded soul.
Grew in the town I live in...his sister taught me English in school and his brother who I also know, played the main stage of Glastonbury. You'll never meet an more intelligent family...I would have loved him to have play for the first team and for utd!
We need more football players (and managers) with an appreciation for art. Liverpool fan here, was lowkey disappointed when Klopp said his favorite films were Rocky and Forrest Gump, when he comes from a country that has excellent filmmakers like Werner Herzog, Reiner Fassbender and Wolfgang Petersen. His story shows how fragile life is. He was seen a wonderkid, nine years later he drowns on the way to work.

He could've been in the class of 92
Easily
He was probably the ‘forgotten’ one. There were 7 great players in the class of 92, yet only 6 played well for United. The 7th was him.
Rafael Burke?
