I watched the show and I feel like Meko was set up for failure from the jump. Why give her a barely put together script to finish writing when you know you have a short deadline? Putting together a great story takes time, not something you just throw together. It's no wonder we keep seeing low quality movies come out. She either should have been given a finished script or they should have had the contestants show up with their own script ready to go. Also I expected Issa or Kumail or Gina to be with her within arm's length to explain to her how the process works and to give pointers on directing but they were barely around to help and I understand they were filming other projects but they should have delayed filming this show until they were available. Being placed into a situation like this with no experience must have felt intimidating and she needed a mentor close by. Meko definitely needs to work on her communication and the wall she has up but I also feel like the people around her weren't much better at communicating and didn't give the support needed.
Setup for failure would be if she had no help at all. Literally everyone kept repeating “call us or let us know if you need anything” and she refused help cause “its all in my head and i dont work like that”. She set herself up for failure but refusing advice and poorly communicating when everyone around her was trying to help
I agree. They had a writer. Why not work directly with him to get their notes addressed? It's not like she wrote the script. You never go into production with a script that's not working. Issa Rae's team and the producers had plenty of time to work directly with the writer and fix the script while Meko was casting and crewing up. They intentionally didn't do it just to have drama and make the director look bad.
I would never want to work with Issa Rae's company. What a bunch of micro managers. Directing is not done by committee. You hired her because she was the best person for the job, let her do it! Man, I was steaming. They went out of their way to make Meko look bad. They gave her a shoddy script and not enough time to fix it. Since she was doing a million other things during preproduction, they could've worked directly with the writer to address their notes and fix the script. They choose not to do that so they could make Meko look bad. Maybe it's time to cancel this show for good. It only hurts the directors.
I think they're more obsessed with their image lol!
I’m still trying to figure out why the HBO execs cut Meko’s pic for the lead. Both girls are stellar actresses but why did they completely come in and nix Jada?
Chemistry. I saw it, all the producers saw it, even hbo max saw it. Meko couldn’t even really explain why she wanted Jada so bad. Mia was still her second pick its not like they forced her to choose somone from left field
Colorism. Hollywood has an agenda to replace black women with biracials.
Every PGL, except for the first one, has chosen the most quit introverted person in the interviews, and then seem confused as to why they're quiet and introverted in prepro, on set, and in post. Part of being a director is leading and communicating your vision clearly.
Well..let's see...the budget is too low, the amount of time allowed for shooting is insane, considering there will be two film crews at the same time in the same locations...one for the show and one for the film., they chose an inexperienced director to lead the project and all the usual drama on top of that. If this director has any sense, knowledge or intuition she will bail on this "made-to-fail" joke.
Season 2 didn't have introverts. The problem with that season was that they picked a directing duo that didn't know how to divide labor between each other.
@@habadasheryjones They were sort of introverted with each other. They communicated with each other, but not with the rest of the crew or actors. Starting with crew interviews, rewrites and auditions, they were very quiet. They were also wrong for the project. The writer clicked with the female director and it would have been smarter to go with her
You know some one is a visionary when they say "I'm a visionary."
Currently watching and I feel like there's a lot to take away from this. Given the weight of the opportunity, I feel the person chosen would need a much stronger personailty to gain the most from it all.
The producers made the same mistake last season. They picked the best film but not the best director. Both were poor communicators and unwilling to listen to advice
@@KRUSTYskates watching Meko was beyond annoying. She wasn't giving her full effort nor listening to advice. It's like she didn't care enough. I honestly couldn't finish the season lol
Given the budget, time frame for working two crews and lack of experience, this venture is doomed before it starts. I was really hoping this would be good.
People have done more with less. Meko, was not ready for this opportunity at all.
@@camronriley9600 Along with the fact that she was chosen by people that offered her no support. They knew she lacked experience when they selected her....and did nothing to help. No suprises here.
She had tons of support and help. She just refused it cause “its all in my head and thats not how i work” Well dont be surprised if its a trainwreck cause you refuse to openly communicate with the whole team!
@@KRUSTYskates You don't hire a carpenter that knows woodwork but has never built anything. She was hired..they knew exactly one thing...that she had zero experience. There was no personality test or testing to see how she communicates or handles stress. Meko is the only one that looks genuine. All the others are playing to the show cameras to look "professional".
Watched every episode. Love the show! But...they ALWAYS pick the wrong director. Meko is not a communicator, doesn't take valuable notes given to her by the studio about the script, and there was no emotional connection between the characters (even though the actors were great..there's only so much they could do with such awful dialogue). I don't think the mentors believed she was a good director. They should have picked L.J. (no relation)
I LOVE this show! New season please! ❤
*With limited time and the script being in bad condition, the fourth script meeting and the round table should’ve been the first couple of script meetings (but without the frustration). They should’ve had the script printed to discuss and address concerns. Then afterwards her choice of writer. Once Meko explained her process an adjustment should’ve been made immediately. It also would’ve been nice if she had a director actually there everyday to get their opinion and guidance. Even if she met with them at the end of every episode to catch up. People are commenting about her personality and her being an introvert but she seemed more open and her personality shinned with the actual film team than with her movie production crew. The crew knew that this was her first film but they treated her like it was her 50th. I feel like she was just overwhelmed. The point of the show is that she’s never done this at this level. It was a wonderful opportunity and interesting to see all the work that makes movie magic.*
Damn alright then…😂
@@CBT_productions *They had me frustrated lol!! I feel like certain people clearly wanted her to fail. They should’ve had fresh eyes on that script IMMEDIATELY.*
Diversity Hire .. haha how couldt it ended ... so funny.
As a director, you are expected to know how to do all the tasks given. The problem with Meko is the only advice she took from Gina was to fight for your say. She never listens to the producers when they were trying to help her. It was so frustrating watching her shoot down all of their suggestions. It’s ok to be an introvert but not while you are in charge of a freaking movie! Hollywood is looking for a director who knows how to do pre-production, production and post. They aren’t looking for excuses. Every director has their first film, none of them had the opportunity that Meko had.
@@camronriley9600 *I definitely understand that but she has never done those task at that level in that atmosphere in that timeframe, so it's a little different.*
Yes!!
So stoked this is coming back! I watched every season when Matt and Ben were involved. My first introduction to Shia LeBeouf!
Watched Matt and Ben's now on UA-cam right now
Shia Saide LaBeouf, lol 👎
There is no possible way this can work. The budget is way too small, the amount of shooting time is totally unrealistic and they choose a director with almost no experience. Just having two groups filming at the same time in the same locations (one for the film and one for the show) is ridiculous. It is impossible for this to work. I hope this director at least has the brains to bail on this disaster.
You forgot about Vin Diesel 💪🏼
Then you never hear from any of these people again.
This looks dope
not really
@Thickcurves
To me it does.
@@MALLYGEEZ1 it was a frustrating trainwreck to watch

Lol
Is that jawline just from HGH or did Kumail get jaw implants?
No, he's always had a strong jaw. It was overshadowed by bad posture and fat. Look at before and after pictures.
@@So-tf1dz lol ok
yo lemme submit a script
I’ll take it on Kumail’s credibility.
FIRED ON MARS SEASON 2&3 NOWWWWW
The season 2 probably the 3 i don't know
@@axelglez3492 its reportedly already made
I'm excited
The producers made the same mistake as the last season. Picked the best film but not the best director. Both were poor communicators and unenthusiastic resulting in a subpar film
Meko was frustrating to watch
@@camronriley9600 extremely. Caught myself yelling at the tv multiple times lol
I am watching now and it is extremely frustrating to see how inarticulate Meko is!!! To not have notes for your actors, to not express your vision, to not inspire those you work with…a m a z i n g! The production folks really had to keep their cool because they too don’t want to come across as difficult to work with. They gave Meko lots of rope and she was just like “cool”. The choice was wrong at the start. If someone can’t articulate at the beginning, it’s not that they are humble, it’s that they lack confidence.
Watching this season has made me more certain than ever that I am ready for an opportunity like this. Issa and HBO I’m ready for you.
Congratulations Meko!! So stoked for you!!
After watching the series which was great, I feel like I understand what the suits are talking about when they utter the phrase "We need the world of the story to be bigger". When you are working with a low $3.5 Million budget by Hollywood standards they don't really mean more locations or more action. I think what they mean is the story needs a variety of different tensions. When I watch the later seasons of Better Call Saul there are some story beats where I don't know if a character is finally going to get shot or not. its that kind of tension that stays in the audiences mind after that particular scene ends. if you have a few of these moments in your story you can keep the attention of the audience. Its smart for the suits to give the Director a script from a new writer because that adds to the tension of the BTS series to the detriment of the movie. which is in many ways not as important. As a writer when you see your work on a screen enough (and get the same kind of notes) you will know what story engines to use to create that tension....., i guess.....,

This going to be good. Cant believe the last season a white man told a black woman what diversity looks like and he made a movie about a black man being used to make billions for white men (AIR)
looks great
Remember when the show had one black woman and the rest were Affleck, Damon and other white dudes trying to tell her how Hollywood works? 😂

@@theminge2 She was a nightmare !! Funny I can't recall her name and really can't be bothered to look it up :)

@@habadasheryjones I recall her saying something to the effect that she was only paid to to do the film and not the series and somehow felt exploited. I have no idea what she did for the series that she felt entitled her to any payment.
I hope she does well with Gamechanger Films, trying bringing diversity to every aspect of the film industry.

Meko - when you have been given an opportunity, you have to create opportunities for others like yourself. You have plenty of quality black professionals that you could have opened a door for. How do you think you got a chance? You were qualified and you are a woman, and a woman of color. Next time when you are given such a golden opportunity, do better!
Exactly. She was not ready.
wat s with the all blacks?
Pass
The girl they picked was horrible.
ugh
eww
Love a good diversity show!! Make everyone friends!! Yay!!
This is what the world needs more diversity and female directors....said no one ever. Flop.
Issa Rae misnaming it "Project GreenLIGHTS" (plural, not singular) in the opening 2 sec of the trailer and proving she doesn't even know the actual name of the original series--or what the term "greenlight" means in the film world--does not bode well for the series. 👎
The first few seconds are a joke. Did you not hear the laughter? Her shtick is awkwardness.
So it's a significantly more woke version of the show?
Yikes. Hard Pass.
Diversity of skin color doesn’t equal talent or creativity
Most annoying cast ever. Not a single likable person on this show.
They tried to do Tyler dirty.
How?!?
@natural_vizions Meko wanted to hire him and they pressured her into hiring someone else because of his race and gender. That's not diversity, equity, and inclusion. That's just excusing racism and sexism.
@@natural_vizionsthe way i saw it, tyler was mekos first pick but then the producers suggested meko pick someone of color instead
@KRUSTYskates Yes, that was dumb but at the end of the day, he got granted the contract and did not go about leaving properly. Now we don't really know what was fully explained or not but regardless of that, you sign a contract you fulfill it or part ways professionally.
