Best part of this hunt was the last 4 minutes. I teared up a little remembering the last hunt with my dad in 2016. I miss him so much. Jani keep hunting with your dad as long as you can, even if it's just sitting in a blind with the intention of hunting but just sitting there enjoying the moment.
The interaction of father and son is fantastic. One can always learn lessons from a parent, even if it's not the parent specifically teaching the lesson and it's simply the situation doing the teaching! Pretty emotional stuff!
Keep these parent and child interactions coming. They are educational, light-hearted, and a good reminder that time spent with people you love doing the things you enjoy is worth the investment.
I am happy - I watched to the end and saw the father and son interaction. A wee gem of a moment. Thanks for that. Janis senior coped well with his son's expectations, ego and fears.
Papa Janis is definitely in the wisdom stage of development. His to Janis’ question at 25:07 says he is wise by answering he doesn’t have it figured out he’s still learning. This is a beautiful example of a father/son relationship.
Time spent with your Dad is so valuable. I'll likely never get to hunt with my Dad again. He had a massive stroke the day after Elk hunting with my wife, son, and I. I didn't know it would be the last time, but I'm eternally grateful for the time we had.
I love the hunting part of these episodes. But honestly, the philosophical aspect of these episodes and also meat hunter episodes are what I appreciate most. Depth and introspectiveness are two aspects I relate a lot with. Beautiful words from a father to a son that's learning to be a father himself.
Father's day weekend coming up. Perfect episode, my pops doesn't hunt but I'ma buy him a new fishing rod this Father's Day. Gonna take him fishing, been a looong time since I've fished with my pops
I always look forward to a Janis video. As we age, reflection of such hunts becomes a pastime. I hope my son's memories are as strong as mine. Great job Janis. I'm envious if your relationship with your father. You are welcomed in my camp anytime!
Sometimes as a father of four all adults I've learned not everything is a learning experience for them it's often better to sit back and listen and watch the problems and then answering their questions great video
I love that you chose to include the father-son relationship and heart-to-heart moments. That is priceless and what makes this more than just another hunting video. I lost my father 25 years ago and am now a stepfather myself. These issues are real and matter.
That last conversation between you two was very valuable to hear. As fathers and husbands, we’re constantly faced with a dichotomy of toughness and love. You guys did a great job of both sharing the difficulty and also how to maybe address it.
Bless you Papa Janis. I too am 72YO but my lungs are shot with emphysema and my days of traipsing around the bush are over. So special to see you still getting out there, and especially being able to share this time with your son.
"You have to get over yourself to find the love" Papa Jani I've been hunting with my dad most of my life. He's now 72 and we still hunt. This was awesome and humbling. Thank you 🙏🏼
Love it man just spending time with pops in the woods is something else I was able to put my dad on his first bull last year and he’s 64 already seeing that glow and smile was all worth it
I could watch these hunts with your dad from now on. My dad and my grandad are both gone now. I'd give anything to have those experiences with them one more time!
Thank you for this episode. So many parallels to my relationship with my 75 year old father and our experiences hunting together as he's aged and slowed down.
Your Colorado archery elk adventure with Papa Janis is a heartfelt testament to tradition and family bonds. The dedication and skill you bring to the hunt are truly inspiring. Here’s to many more shared moments and stories in the great outdoors! And I Am Floating Village Life
I understand....I'm at the age where being there with my two boys means more than anything else. I've taken my share of elk, and I've taken my last one. My boys and I are in a good place together and I'm happy when they're happiest.
The conversation you and your dad had was priceless! Your dad is full of wisdom. My dad and I had similar conversations while hunting together. I just had to be patient with him and realize he wasn't a young buck anymore. It was tough seeing him age in life/hunting. Thanks for sharing.
The fact that you and your dad were able to get out for a week on an elk hunt at his young age of 72 is amazing!! A few years ago i got a chance to get my dad out here in CO on a drop camp was an incredible experience. He hung around camp, but we spent a wonderful week up near the Flat Tops. I didn't get an elk, heck, i didn't even hear a bugle. But a few years later, it doesn't matter. It was a great time and we still talk about it.
Papa Jani is very wise. I feel pretty lucky and blessed that I'm feeling nothing but unconditional love for my own daughter. It doesn't help that she's half the country away realizing her educational dream. It might be a bit more frustrating if we were hunting together, though I'd love that more than anything else. I've learned to just accept my dad for who he is, a grumpy old fart set in his ways. So thankful he introduced me to the outdoors at a very young age. Hope all you other dads had a wonderful Father's Day.
I could listen to Papa Janis spit his wisdom all day, every day. I hope Janis listens to his dad and lives by it. Im happy he let go a little bit by the end of the hunt bc its really not about killing an animal. Its about the relationships and the journey. I know this bc I lost my dad, my favorite hunting companion, in 2001 when I was 25 years old. Janis is really lucky to still have his dad around as he moves into his mid years. I wish I did bc I miss that wisdom and guidance that my own dad brought to the table. Only so many of those moments left so I hope Janis doesn't take it for granted..
Having spent a ton of time hunting with my dad this one really hits home. I sometimes have to remind myself that these times together won’t be forever and to focus on being grateful no matter how the hunt goes.
Papa Janis is a very wise man. I wish I could've had the chance to hunt with my old man before he passed 2 years ago. Great video, was never about getting the animal, it was always about the extra time together.
Awesome stuff I was lucky enough to take my 71 year old dad with my 7 year old son on my spring bear hunt it was pretty cool to have three generations together spending time doing what we all love.
That is something I am learning with my young boys. For a bit I would get upset and sometimes annoyed with how loud and impatient they were haha but then it hit me while we were hunting and they would tell stories of hunts that I forgot but how much it meant to them even something so small at the time. It’s not about the outcome of getting an animal down. It’s the time spent together and now I enjoy it so much more and I’m more relaxed due to it.
Papa Janis is awesome! Well you can tell he raised Janis as he is also! Stay chill and roll with the flow. Thats what I get from them. Good or bad it is fine. No worries!
Man, this episode hits home. My Dad is the same age. He has the desire but not the ability and it guts me that he’s not able to be in the elk woods. He can still fish with the best of ‘em so we focus on that. Happy Father’s Day fellas!
As clay would say” Jani lacks the passion I’d like to hear from an elk call”..I just had to say it. Really great that you get to go out hunting with your dad. Something to remember regardless of the results. 👍👍
Yep. It's hard to come to the understanding that what we want for our dads probably is not what they want for themselves at that age. More than likely, they've come to accept their age limitations, but we sons have not. In hindsight, that was my experience during the last few years of my dad's life.
This was beautiful. Due to decisions my father made when he was younger, he is physically unable to hunt anymore. What I wouldn't give to hit the woods with him one last time
What language are they speaking? I remember him mentioning it in a previous episode but I can’t remember which one, I even googled the phrase “Shuay garam” and couldn’t find anything on it. Btw I absolutely love watching them hunt together I wish I had the same opportunity. Truly a blessing
My dad is 74. I’m 27. There is nothing more that I want other than going on a big game hunt with my dad and for him to be successful. Whether I like it or not. Those days are fading away. But that is still my dream. Sure helps if we had more money for it
I sometimes get impatient hunting with my dad. Sometimes I get impatient with my son. I bet it's safe to say our dad's probably felt the same way. It's important to just be in the moment.
My Dad is in rehabilitation for blood clots right now. He took me fishing all the time when I was a child. I became a better fisherman than him but only because of him! Great content! Hit me just right today!
My pop is getting older I have been trying for 4 years to get a tag in utah that he is willing to on on with me I sure hope to get one more experience with him in the field
Love these father son episodes, only thing that festered me watching this episode was the unexpected realities that Janis put on his father through the hunt. Only with age comes humiliation. Seems like Steve rinella is rubbing off on Janis. Enjoy the years left with your papa in the hills
Papa Jani is a special human being. Thank you for sharing this hunt with us, Jani. I’d give anything for one more hunt with my Dad.
Me too lost mine Dad to the after effects of the Vietnam war in 1994
Amen brother! It being opening morning in Montana I'm feeling this. I'd give anything for 1 more hunt
Great Father's Day episode. Thank you Janis for sharing your experience and feelings for your father through out the years.
Love seeing papa Janis in the episodes! Lot of wisdom and an absolute unconditional love for his son and doing things with him.
The interaction of father and son is fantastic. One can always learn lessons from a parent, even if it's not the parent specifically teaching the lesson and it's simply the situation doing the teaching! Pretty emotional stuff!
These mid day drops are money!!! Sitting in my county work truck eating lunch and bam....Janis and Papa Janis elk hunting. Yahtzee!!!!
The Putelis's Make the best shows! Every show Poppa Putalis is in is the best! I love the humility and wisdom of these two amazing humans.

Best series i ever watched

I've been hunting with my dad most of my life. He's now 72 and we still hunt. This was awesome and humbling. Thank you 🙏🏼
I love the Janis Sr and Jr episodes. What a great show with awesome people. Keep up the stellar content meat eater crew

Excelente video, previo al Día del Padre… esa experiencia de cazar con papá, no se olvida… gracias por este gran video….

Another amazing vid! Great Job.
Dang who knew a hunting video would bring you to tears, great content thanks for sharing.

What an absolutely beautiful episode between these two ❤
very heart warming episode
Thank you gents. What a beautiful interaction between you both. Love to the Putelis family

I'm 62 and it's always been about the hunt and the encounters not necessarily about the kill, time in the woods is so therapeutic!
"KEEP ON KEEPIN ON"
That's the old saying, "it's not the kill, it's the thrill of the chase"
The episode we've all been waiting for.
Trying to reason with your own father as they age is one of life great challenges!
love the way this episode is filmed im going hunting for my first backcountry elk hunt this year this is a great learning experience for me

Love these.

Great content as always! Papa and son is always magical.
Elk are just madness, this was such a good video, felt like I was there with you.
It's all fun and games until he's not there anymore and the elk still are. Take that to heart.
Ngl I'm jealous. I wish i could go hunting one more time with my dad. What a beautiful episode.
Awesome episode. I think we can all learn to be more loving to our parents
Good one Janis. Happy Father’s Day.

Great video spending time with your father must be exciting, don't be to hard on him.

Your dad did great and shared a lot of wisdom
most enjoyable ME episode yet - well done, Team
Jani is tied with Cal and my favs on Meateater after Steve. Such a good and humble guy. And seems wicked smart. His dad is a treat. Those 2 are great
Man I wish my dad and I could do this, cherish every moment!!
That’s special I wish I had that relationship with my dad. Enjoy it
Janis
I love watching you two!
Spending time with his son ragging on how old his pops is all episode lol. I bet as a younger man Papa Janis was a beast!!!
Great stuff gents at multiple levels!!!
One of my new favorites
Great episode. It meant alot to me.
Great episode guys.
😂😂😂
You can never get enough of those father & son outings
YourDad is a good teacher, olso you are taking the time to keep learning.....
I smiled as soon as I saw Papa Janis
Hell ya glad I'm not the only one using a wisker biscuit. Good huntin!
I know my dad would drive me NUTS on a hunt like this but I'd love every second of it.
The part at 2:50… why did I love it so much
Awesome father son!
This was beautiful. Due to decisions my father made when he was younger, he is physically unable to hunt anymore. What I wouldn't give to hit the woods with him one last time
I hope there is a part two coming
Be gentle Janis🥴.
Thanks gents❤
Every son should spend such high quality time with his old man.
Appreciate the point of view here! I have the same feelings bringing my dad on elk hunts. Going forward, maybe I can tone it down!
Papa Eagle! 🦅
My dad is just like this
Good stuff
What language are they speaking? I remember him mentioning it in a previous episode but I can’t remember which one, I even googled the phrase “Shuay garam” and couldn’t find anything on it. Btw I absolutely love watching them hunt together I wish I had the same opportunity. Truly a blessing

I've never had a dad, seen this interactions makes me tear up and idk why. If u still have a dad, enjoy it for me!!
I miss hunting with my dad he passed away 5 years ago.
Sorry brother🙏👊
Same here. Hard to believe it's been three years since mine passed.
I wonder if papa Jani carries a good finish knife. I love mine.
They’re Latvian.
I think I speak for everyone here, we want more Janis(s) content
I sometimes get impatient hunting with my dad. Sometimes I get impatient with my son. I bet it's safe to say our dad's probably felt the same way. It's important to just be in the moment.
Awesome
My Dad is in rehabilitation for blood clots right now. He took me fishing all the time when I was a child. I became a better fisherman than him but only because of him! Great content! Hit me just right today!
"A little bit thick" is an understatement. That scrub brush can be exhausting to hike through.
One of the best parts of the hunt is leaving your gear at home and helping your partner because you already tagged out
My pop is getting older I have been trying for 4 years to get a tag in utah that he is willing to on on with me I sure hope to get one more experience with him in the field
💪🏼💪🏼
Janis, what kind of hat is that and where can I get one??
Love these father son episodes, only thing that festered me watching this episode was the unexpected realities that Janis put on his father through the hunt. Only with age comes humiliation. Seems like Steve rinella is rubbing off on Janis. Enjoy the years left with your papa in the hills
Old, deaf, & blind. Hope my son is still hunting with me when I'm like that in 30 or 40 years
ah so good wish i would of fished with my dad more
