As a german hunter I really appreciate you giving that Buck the last meal. Here in Germany the "letzter Bissen", as we call it, is a tradition held in extremely high regard. It shows respect for the creature you´ve been hunting.
Love me some Latvian Eagle.
Never been hunting but plan too soon. I learned a lot from what you said. "Big bucks make people do stupid things." The situation and that comment taught me a lot. Thank you.
Best outdoor channel am I right !?
Yes you are hundred percent right!
Yes sir
On TV
Hands down. Best variety and best quality, from shows where nothing is harvested and you still watch the whole thing to getting trophies in the beginning of the episode. No matter the result these videos are educating and interesting to say the least
Hands down
Really appreciate the honesty on all Janis videos. He seems I afraid to keep it real, including all the lows hunting can put you through.
Man these guys should really have over a million subscribers for the content they are putting out, like they put out tv quality and quantity content on a UA-cam channel which is rare
I agree, and I am sure they will get there. MeatEater has been around quite a while and was on Netflix for quite a while. Now they are releasing the old episodes on UA-cam and getting in front of a whole new audience.
@J T No it is not. This is brand new content.
@@bluesteel8376 I’m pretty sure this is just re uploaded content from the x hunt streaming service.
@@bluesteel8376 no sorry you are wrong this is re-uploaded and on Netflix just like the fishing trip he did down in South America they uploaded last week

Great job guys congratulations on a couple of beautiful mulleys 😊 Amazing scenery Good friends makes for an awesome hunt
We have all been there when the shots just don't work out. It happens. We cut up about it but in the end you do your best in hopefully putting the animal down as quickly and humanely as possible. Enjoyed another great production. Thanks for sharing and all the best from down under.
Best production value out there. What a brand!
As a michigander i am proud to stake claim to Steve as one of our own. And for his team they are top notch ethical hunters. We need more like this.
17:21 "Letzter Bissen" (Last bite). A german hunters custom that made it over the years to all german neighbouring countries.
Now it makes it over the Atlantic too. :) It is an old hunting tradition in Germany and is a sign of reconciliation with the animal just gave his life.
@@neronimos2 I like it :)
Showing respect to what you hunt, slaughter and eat does never hurt.
If you have never hunted public land, I don't think you can truly experience the challenge of modern hunting. However, there is nothing wrong with hunting private land, and I always jump at the chance.
You summed it up man
Your not lying.. I “try” to hunt public land here in Florida.. not an easy task.
I mean, there’s a little bit wrong with hunting private land, but it’s not like it’s a bad thing. Just not as rewarding or exciting as public. Because usually, you know that there’s stuff there to get on private. You’re paying for the certainty. On public land, you never know until you get there.
Hunting isn't always clean thank you guys for showing us the real parts of hunting
Need to finish my Hunter’s Education so I can get out there!
Are you referring to a formal classroom setting and if so , what state are you studying in?????
The heart is the first meal of the animals that I hunt
My old stomping grounds. Putting the twigs/grass in the deer's mouth is a custom in Eastern Europe as well.
Yes, we are doing that in Latvia :)))) And it is nice to see you joining us, Janis :)
Love the Yani content. He’s always good with the other meat eater guys but he’s so good by himself too!
Yani>Steve
I love the respect you show for the animal this is how I hunt also.
Best part of the week when the MeatEaters release new content.
Thank you for that. I really enjoyed that video and it makes me count down the days til I can get back out and chase those mulies
Janis, it's called the letze bissen (last bite) and it is with one of the 5 native trees of Germany. It has to be broken of the tree and not cut. It is placed with the foliage on the left side of the mouth. The inbesitznahmebruch is placed on the left side over the fatal shot
Il tell my Bavarian mountain hound all about it! Thanks for sharing
Thank you for this... Time passes by, but it is so nice to see that family traditions always remain.
Love that you gave him his last Meal 🍴 thank you for Givin him the respect ❤️
After watching what was currently on Netflix and just getting to episode 200 of the podcast. It's nice to get to see some of the old hunts I heard about.
Jani, this happened to me on my first antelope. I've never shot over 300 yds, and the outfitter put me on a stud at 375. I was all over the place, had one bad hit in a knee, and then finally put one right through the heart. It happens. Good job sticking with it and getting the job done on a STUD.
Its a true hunter who apologizes to his prey, congratulations and regards to Spain
17:18 in Austria we call that "the last bite" i do it with every deer i shoot.
Lezter Bissen
You guys are hands down the best hunting, fishing & outdoors show, product & channel out by a long shot. #MeatEaterNation
Mike Ford is a beast! I’ve hunted with him 3 times over the last 5 years. No better guide to be with in that area.
If ya ever have trouble getting deer just hunt with Kieth Warren. All you have to do is put a little corn on your barrel and all those caged in deer will come running to it!
LOL Keith can't find his ass with both hands
Last day bucks, opening morning bucks, that absolute best!
I love heart fried in garlic butter in iron skillet
Deer heart just like that is my absolute favorite meal.
This episode reminds me of something Janis said in an episode of Meateater - humans are the only hunting species that puts so much pressure on ourselves to make ethical kills. A wolf or bear kill is certainly worse for the prey animal. But in this episode you could really see the pressure Janis put on himself and the regret/sadness when he wasn't able to follow through.
Yes, we owe the animal a quick and clean kill. And when we human hunters don't deliver that, we should hang our head in shame. That is our #1 job, followed closely by giving thanks to God for the opportunity and his bountiful harvest, and then using all the meat for feeding our family and others. That is the least we can do.
We are the only species that hunts because it’s a choice. A one shot kill is not only humane, it shows a higher level of skill. It’s about respect for our quarry, nature, and ourselves.
@@rodneyalaking8241 this is a bit of an old wive’s tale - for example, ever see a fox or mustelid go through a hen house?
Congrats Yanis that is one stud of a Mule Deer! He'll eat well & look great on the wall! Awesome the respect & thanks you showed for him in death as he will now feed your family!
So excited just found out I got my buck tag today for the fall.
Happens to all of us. Great buck!
Very nice buck! I used to hunt the grand Mesa. Lots of quality bucks then.
Thanks for the motivation!
Great video, one day I hope to actually accomplish one of my bucket list hunts, Colorado mule deer!
That was HOOAH!!!
Janis’s shot on that buck shows the importance of a broadside shot! That deer was facing away by the look of it
Now that's a dandy!!!! (In my steven rinella voice) good job Jani. Stuff happens brother. You did great.
Good you both got a buck! Thats the perfect ending
The heart gravy and rice looks awesome! A lot of times I'd eat the liver first night, and then do the heart with fried eggs in the morning..... But that dish looked really nice!
DUDE!!! 70LBS OF MEAT??!!!🤯 WHOA! That's AWESOME, that's freakin AWESOME!!😵 Plz keep these vidz comin 😁👍(now I gotta wipe the drool off my face from the heart cookin😋)
Hope I can get a hog like that this year! Good job love the hunts and the people you guys interact with.
Steve looks and sounds kinda wierd here.
Right, like he got more necky if you will!
Not Steve its Janis.
And hes right handed all the sudden
@@shanebennett953 no kidding dummy
Respect for the animal goes a long ways good job! I always say a prayer of thanks over every animal I kill that will nourish my family
Great show Steve
I got my first Muley buck this year as well! south central colorado as well!
Gorgeous buck!
Love to go on a mule deer hunt some day with one of these guys. A true sportsman. Watched all the seasons of meat eater. Great hunt.
Thank you for the last meal.
In Germany they put a twig of spruce (Bruch) in the game's mouth it is a sign of honoring the game and to show respect. If it is a group of hunters they even have a ceremony and blow a special tune on their hunting horns. This is done in many European countries.
Good show
*Shot 2*
"What the F*ck"
*Shot 3*
Uh oh
I felt his pain.
That's what I like about meat eater. You show the mistakes and missed shots.
Thats a vortex for ya, notorious for losing zero
Bummed out 400 yards under 300 whatever not feeling hitting them migrating not feeling hitting him bedded. Agree good eating all my Mule Deer tasted great.
Dead bucks are a bonus. the experience is what I crave!
Janis Putelis vs Sasquatch. Make it happen MeatEater
Everything has to happen to a hunter to be a good hunter.
tagged for white tail keep bumping 190 mules omfg racks
I shot my first Muley last season and also had a bad first shot. Had to walk up and shoot it close as well. I felt really bad since I had 325 yards to walk. My issue was trigger pull from rushing a shot. My wife didn't want to eat the meat from the bad reputation Muley's have but since I'm an excellent cook, she hasn't complained yet!
Is this what late November in Colorado looks like?
I missed two different turkeys within the same hour earlier this season!
Misses shot.
‘Shame imma starve tomorrow.’
Awesome man cool
Yes I would want my hunt to end on that buck he saw
Great video!! I appreciated no editing when things don't go perfect true honest hunting. I'm not of fan of hunting Mule Deer in the Rut though, it gives the hunter an unfair advantage. That being said I'm sure wildlife biologists determines the strength of deer in that region.
I just got my notice I got my deer draw. I can't wait! Now I need to find ammo...??? 🦌🤔
So fuckin glad we get to see reality with raw emotion and mistakes included
I miss Steve. I want more Steve.
Settle down dude, he is married.
I'll be going to Gunnison Colorado November 1st 2021 to hunt mule deer first time..can you guys give me some advice ty
Public land hunting in CO is definitely no joke
This is awesome! But where is B-side fishing?!
Love these Jani hunts!
I think if you live out west you have a 70% chance of being named Cody😂😂. And a 30% chance of being named Clint
14:40 Borris the Blade buck (Snatch 2000 movie)
We call it the ''last bite'' in Dutch and also in Germany. to express respect to the animal thats gonna provide food for you and your family.
I'm hoping to get my Mule tag any day now..
did you get you tag? CO draw results came out today
I put in for a 6 point tag with 8 points. Now I have 9 points
@@brandinhendrickson2292 I just got the email a few hours ago. 2nd rifle buck tag
@@brandinhendrickson2292 I had no points. I've been doing OTC elk for the past 3 years A in archery and B in rifle. Now I have the Mule tag to go along with my second rifle cow tag. Plus when I'm hunting cows in 2nd rifle all I see are deer lol so fingers crossed 🤞
@@luke-te3sr Good luck. It should be a good hunt being a week later. Hopefully you catch the start of the rut
Need to get you boys runnin Longshot Target Cameras. Would save you a lot of time going back and forth in the mule trying to zero rifles! @meateater
It's not about preforming..it's about hunting
I just steve, janis, and cal hunts.
Se vc colocasse legenda em português ficaria otimo🇧🇷, sou seu fã aki do Brasil
10:30 is how I hunt all of the time in Hunter Call of the Wild lol.
Haha my brother does the same
Janis is no Steve, 7 shots for 1 deer.
It’s an old European custom🤭😅
Janis, I have been doing the same thing by placing forage in the mouths of the animals I have harvested.
Steve, when you heading back to New Zealand? You haven't finished yet my friend
i wonder what they’ll do when they hit one mill
Any day now, find out if I drew hill ranch elk and deer.🤞
Janis can you please talk Steven into giving me a job!!! Please!!!
Me too!!!
I wish Steve was a part of this
stick stuck in the stock at 13:31, did it "un-float the barrel perhaps?
Why is there not more advertised MeatEater gear?
Steve or bust!
the thing with the twigs is very popular in germany and surrounding countries. it is called "Bruch" which lossely translates to break or broken, because the twigs are broken off. before modern times with phones and radio these Brüche and hunting horn melodies were all hunters had to communicate over distance. when another hunter came along and found your Bruch, he got a message depending on the type of Bruch. they are basically text messages in the old days. and you have different kinds for different messages. its basically a complete dictionary. same goes for different signals on hunting horns.
regarding dead game there are two that are important. the "inbesitznahmebruch" or possession break, which is a stick laid over the shoulder of the dead animal and which shows another hunter that said animal already belongs to somebody. people would use it for instance when they were off to get help dragging the animal out of the woods. kinda like your tags in america.
the other is the "letzter Bissen" or last bite, that janis is practising here. this is a kind of thanksgiving ritual and I appreciate janis doing it. over here you would however catch some flag by overtraditional hunters because not every tree species qualifies to be used this way. there are "bruchgerechte Bäume" or trees that are fair game to use as Bruch. you "can only use" those, even on carnivorous game which never touches a twig of beech. those rules are more and more watered down which is sad and good at the same time. bad because the gesture gets lost when people dont do it anymore (and I fully admit to not do it every time) and good because like I said, people can go overboard with etiquette and tradition and ruin a nice moment of introverted contemplation by bitching about you using a piece of brush or a handfull of wheat in summer.
I think the gesture is what matters and hence I tip my head mister Putelis!
