Raury’s “All We Need” has to be mentioned in Conscious Rap. It talks about the problem with society and how the world is slowly corrupting but the higher class men are trying to make everyone insane. It’s a really good album that needs to stop being overlooked as mid.
Hey James, I wonder if you'd be interested to take a look at my album (Words Unspoken), which I recently released. You can find it either on my channel or on streaming site. It's not hip hop but I would say it still falls within the rap genre in terms of lyrical delivery of the verses. Thematically, it’s a journey through one’s own feelings of loneliness, anger, envy, sadness, and all sorts of emotions from that side of the spectrum. Some tracks are storytelling tracks where a certain real life experience is sort of narrated, some are not, but one way or another all tracks are an introspective dive into one’s own thoughts and feelings. The instrumentals are often dark and haunting. Since I see in this video that you don't mind exploring more alternative styles of rap music, I thought you might be interested in checking it out. Let me know! Cheers.
honestly Saturation III by Brockhampton deserves to be on this list. It has themes of being gay, black, poor, and talks about the intersection between all of it. You don’t get to see LGBT and hip-hop integrate much either and for it to be done as such a deep level is honestly amazing.
i just started collecting vinyl and started with kanye. i have the college dropout and want to add mbdtf to my collection after i get ksg. Where can i find Mbdtf?
I cant take it seriously that conscious rap is alt rap, conscious rap isn't a sound literally any rap album can be conscious its just subject matter, the lyrics. It could be a trap song and talk about conscious stuff but maybe not be taken as seriously. cause trap music is usually just vibe music.
That’s why the college drop out means so much to me because everyone in my life is trying to persuade me and force me to go to college and I try to explain my life plan but they always think imma be unsuccessful
bro if you have the chance you should def go. dont wanna tell you what to do but college is a good thing to do. hes trying to say you dont need to do it to be succseful but you should go
Conscious hip-hop doesn’t always mean alternative hip-hop and vice versa. Some of these are conscious but not alternative. But a lot of them still are. Still a solid video tho
I'd say another good conscious rap album is the eminem show, it really attacks the government and entertainment industry for how much freedom of speech we really have in America as compared to how much they say we have. He also goes into how being a white rapper has helped and hurt him as an artist in the state the rap game was in when the album came out.
Would love to see a deep dive on experimental rap.
