Edie talked about this in interview. It was a song that was very special to her and Ernie, but she learned at the taping that it was probably the very worst choice for that episode, because by this time, Lucy and Desi were no longer speaking. Lucy filed for divorce the day after it wrapped. It was a very difficult shoot, and terribly sad. She said she looked around the room after finishing singing, and everyone was crying.

Hmmm, I didn't know Lucy insisted they keep it. She was giving Edie a hard time during rehearsals though, like Lucy wasn't happy with her blocking, or Edie's hairstyle and kept making her change it. but it was just because of the drama she and Desi were going through and she took it out on everybody.
Edie Adams performing "That's All" is quite poetic and a bit ironic since this was the last of the Lucy/Desi shows. Lucy filed for divorce literally the next day.
Wow Edie sings so beautifully....I love the way Ernie looks at her as she sings. What a wonderful couple...truly made for each other..i only wish things had worked out the same for Desi and Lucy. What a great era in television history, with true talent. Things today are just not the same.....

@Chadlton .. funny you mention hair .. there used to be a chain of beauty shops called “ Edie Adams Cut and Curl” .. old school grandma beauty shops.. The first unisex shop I tried was one of these ..it hit me after I walked in they just changed the name but the decor was still the same so it was like I was in a beauty shop .. I reluctantly stayed and when my name was called an elderly old school beautician in uniform was going to be cutting my hair .. never had a beautician cut my hair before so I got a bit nervous.. she was going to wash my hair first which I never had done in a shop before so I guess this was a beauty shop process included in the price .. I was a bit antsy in the chair as she was shampooing my hair , kept telling me not to life my head , relax and keep my head all the way back. She really shampooed me thoroughly.. after that .. she cut my hair extremely well , I was very pleased .. all for 7.95 . I just wish I would of relaxed more during the shampoo and haircut..

The kind of direct, simple singing that is almost unheard of these days. Someone actually paying attention to the lyrics and the phrasing. No screaming, no wailing and trying to show us all how long she can hold a note or how loudly she can sing, which is what passes for talent on shows like American Idol. Beautiful. Edie was also very good in a small role as the nasty secretary in the film classic The Apartment, with Shirley MacLaine and Jack Lemmon.
I could not bare to watch the entire final Lucy Desi Comedy Hour but this is such a bittersweet performance with Edie performing this classic. A poignant reminder of all that hard work coming to an end that Lucy and Desi put into creating the early glory days of television.
yeah it's sad what was happening behind the scenes too, with Lucy and Desi's marriage crumbling and their constant arguing. Ball would spend a lot of time in her dressing room crying and her eyes got really red and puffy. in the episode where they go to Japan and she disguises herself as a Geisha with white makeup, and it didn't help that she had red puffy eyes from crying.
I'm only 24 and I find myself wanting to turn the radio off with all of the music you hear nowadays. I wish there were more voices like hers today.. I absolutely love this.. on top of the fact that she's gorgeous...
I grew up watching this show in the fifties and can't believe I missed the finale!!!. Edie was a.bombshell back then and husband Ernie Kovacs was the forerunner for, Steve Allen, Jack Paar, Johnny Carson and Jay Leno. Edie's big hit was " Hey, Big Spender" and she was really gorgeous on stage.
ART IMITATING LIFE SOMETIMES SAYS IT BEST ; EVEN WHEN IT'S HEARTBREAKING. It must have been for both LUCY & DESI . Don't forget it would only be about a year later, Jan. 1962 when EDIE ADAMS would go thru the devastating loss of ERNIE KOVACS in a car crash. He was just 42. GOD BLESS THEM ALL.
One of the most long sought after video episodes where this beautiful singer sang for I Love Lucy Show when it repeated itself so many times before youtube and we only had three channels. Many listened to this singer and we all knew we were looking at a star on the rising .That's All ,now has been song so many times now by different singers male and female that Edie Adams remains the best version.
wow, just wow. One of the most beautiful songs ever written sung by a gorgeous woman with a fabulous voice and style - I wanna climb into this video...
this gives me chills everytime i listen to it...i could only imagine what the viewers felt in 1959 when this episode 1st aired...must be nice that lucie n desi jr...can go back and watch their parents on tv...i guess both a great gift and a great curse...
Edie was very pretty for that time! And such a beautiful voice! Wish music was still like that now! Sounds so much better than most of the junk playing on the radio.
I guess it not only had meaning for Lucy and Desi, but for all the people that came to UA-cam to look for this. I think we all share in the pain they had felt at that time, and possibly in our own lives....
i saw the PBS show about the behind the scenes of i love lucy -and they said on set after they filmed this scene everyone was in tears. it was an end of an era.
It's true what you say, viclagoon. The song itself is beautiful, but when Edie Adams sang it.... What words to describe it? Her version was the best I have ever heard! I saw this episode when I was a young kid and because she sang it so beautifully, I just never forgot it. So you can imagine my anticipation when LDCH finally came out and I can listen to Edie sing all over again. I know this was the saddest episode, but it is also the most moving and the most special.
It's so sad that behind the scenes Lucy and Desi were not speaking to each other, only like "would you tell Miss Ball to stand over there?" and Lucy would say "Would you kindly tell Mr. Arnaz that . . ." I read this in her autobiography. The next day she filed for divorce. Poor Edie didn't know what was going on and mistakenly chose this song to sing and it made everybody cry. And everybody was having a rough time on the set. In a way the song was fitting though. In a sad way. :( The very end of this episode was so difficult for Lucy and Desi because they were supposed to kiss, but they kept crying and had to do it over again. It was a kiss that wrapped up 20 years of marriage.
sadly by this time the desilu marriage relationship had run its course....there is a cable network (decades) that aired a documentary on the cpl a few wks ago...it told how they were constantly arguing n decided to go on a European family vacation...by the time they returned they were not speaking n lucille filed for divorce 8 wks later....lucy remarried gary a few yrs later...gary was lucille's trophy husband..tall dark handsome n 13yrs yngr(eat ur hearts out girls) and i do believe that she grew to love him dearly....but there is a major difference btwn love vs inlove n i believe lucille was in love with desi untill the day she died..
i wld agree 100%...there is an interview o utube done with Lucille n Gary by B.walters in 1977....this is the most candid lucille has ever spoken about desi but it was clear that she sill loved him n was resentful because desi through their love away....i have read mny stories where Desi heavy drinking and gambling were credited to the stress of running desilu while filimng i love lucy....i am sure that those were major contributors...but i am sure the demands of married life was also a major contributor..
They agreed to do I Love Lucy to keep their marriage steady but unfortunately like you said, the stresses of running a major TV studio and being on a hugely successful sitcom didn't help, plus they had 2 young children. I think he also cheated on her with a lot of women in Hollywood on top of drinking and gambling. yes Desi had a drinking problem around this time.
as the years have passed and my life experiences have allowed the way i view ppl,places,situations...i see things very differently related to lucillle and desi...all the comments i read appear to fault desi with the failure of the marriage because of his mny infidelities....everyones opinions are shaped based on what they have read...in Lucille's 1977 interview.. my take away was that lucille still loved desi deeply and resented him for throwing their love away...i also got the impression that she faulted desi with the dissolution marriage and felt her culpability has minimal if any at all...and that just plain bullshit and impossible...it takes two to tango...if any relationship fails both parties [played a role....it's not really about establishing a weighted value of culpability...80/20..50/50..70/30....because that is simply a matter of opinion not fact...s...when she met and started a relationship with desi he was a band leader that earned his primary income by touring(someone that mentally adapts to a frequent tour schedule...becomes use to not being in any one place for a lng period of time....once the tour is over and they return to thier home base...in a very short period they begin to get restless...when desi was on the road...lucille was back at home base and the entire time desi was on the road...her mind running rampant worrying about what he was doing and with whom..if his show ended at 1130pm...in her mind..it takes him x minutes to get back to his hotel...and if she called him until 4am and got no answer she auto assumed he was out sexing another women....everyone that comments about desi's drinking, gambling, constant infidelities...have made those comments based on what they have a read...no female has ever come fwd to discuss her wild nite with desi anaz....once i love became a super hit...desi wld have had curtail his infidelities because in the 50's any sex scandle wld have caused cbs to cancel i love lucy and the show was the crown jewel of desilu....if desi was out of lucille site for more than 10.5 seconds she auto assumed he was with another women....she wnted to keep him close to her so she came up with i love lucy...desi agreed bcause he really did love lucille....however, he agreed absent of realizing the outlet touring gave him and when he no lngr toured that outlet wld no longer be met....in all the stories i have read they all attributed desi's drinking & gambing to the stress of overseeing i love lucy and desiu....i now believe that to be bullshit...i will concede that they may been contributing factors...but i no longer believe they were the main factors...when lucille divorced desi shortly after..she brought him out and she took over his duties all while raising the the two kids and starring in and exec producing the lucy show....lucille cld do it but desi cld not...BULLSHIT...this was not brain surgery...the most challenging period wld have been getting the show and studio up & running...but once they were up and running...over a shrt period of time we are talking repetitive challenges that got easier day by day......desi agreed to i love lucy becuase he wanted his marriage to work...he and lucy travled to the studio together in the morning and after a 10hr day...they traveled home together in the eve...this is 5days aweek..on the wknds...lucille had an expectation that desi wld be spending his time with her and the kides...EVERYWEEKEND...that just to damn much togetherness...he wanted/needed sometime to himself.....lucille needed/wanted desi tethered to her side 24/7 n if he was out of her site more than 19.5 mins her mind wld go crazy worring about what he was doing and with whom...the drinking & gambling had little to do with the stress of the siticom & desilu and more to do with stress of the day to marriage.....no i am not psychic, desi or lucille were no friends of mine....i am not saying that ,y opinion is the gospel...my opinion is just that...my opinion...i will not cry or loose sleep because someone disagrees..
I'm a guitar player, and lover of music, I've never heard this, and I've heard it all (most of it anyway), I'm not going to say I found the end of the internet, but I'm close, this is one of the most beautiful pieces I have ever heard, I have tears in my eyes, thank you, its one of if not the most beautiful songs I have ever heard, thank you again.
Makes me cry. Her voice is beautiful. Her interpretation is soulful. And given that this was the last episode and the end of Lucy and Desi's marriage...Oh, it just breaks my heart.
Beautiful and sweet song. The lyrics are simple yet so meaningful. I adore this song so much ❤️ Edie's voice fits this song perfectly. Beautiful and mesmerising 🥰
Sadly, Lucy was about to file for divorce that very day. It was the worst possible song to sing, because it made Lucy and Desi realize how sad it was that their marriage was over.
Ciaran Ryan When did she say that? Because I watched an interview where she talked about how she had nothing with Desi and valued the love and respect she had with Gary
I remember watching I love Lucy and I dream of Jeannie re-runs when I was younger and I love both shows..my grandparents were quite puzzled how can an 8 year old me enjoy watching both sitcom which are as old as them LOL..born with an old soul..
Edie Adams said in a Interview on Entertainment Tonight when Lucy Died that when she Finished Filming this Scene that Lucille Ball was in Tears and her Eyes where Red and Even Desi as Tuff as he was Teary Eyed but No One Knew Why they where Except Vivienne Vance who Lucy had Told of her Intention to Divorce Desi and the Next Day after Filming She Filed for Divorce from Desi Arnes there is a Great Documentary on PBS Television on Both them and There Careers and Marriage and Divorce.
Wow... That lady has raw talent!! Think about it...no mixing...editing....just all laid out there, and beautiful to the tee Didn't miss a note... Wow...
This song brought me to tears. Even though it's been so long since Lucille and Desi died. I still can't get over it. I feel like their divorce was a great American tragedy. Truly it was
This totally just made me cry. It's incredibly bittersweet that such a beautiful song could sum up their relationship...and they divorce the very next day..
This exquisite performance is perhaps one of the all time highlights of the entire "I Love Lucy" run, which had so many. Beautiful voice, beautiful song and who knew that Vivian Vance was such an accomplished pianist? Time stops when watching this.
@@4string59. I did not realize that. Then it must have been Marco Rizo, the pianist for the Desi Arnaz Orchestra in real life as well as on the show. But Vivian Vance does a great job pretending! They don't normally show the hands of fake piano playing.

my parents were (i wish i was too) but it makes me grateful for the one i was born
I was born in 1951, and it was the best of times in America. Sad how our country has fallen.
Oh the way she sang it..
You probably adored Edie, a lovely lady.
wow, just wow.
Such a pretty song
Edie was so beautiful and her version of this song is the best.😍
Best version by farrr!! This is sooo pleasant to my ears
I agree didnt like michael buble nor adam sandler
saddest episode heard this song for the first time and fell in love with it beautiful song
Edie was very pretty for that time! And such a beautiful voice! Wish music was still like that now! Sounds so much better than most of the junk playing on the radio.
I guess it not only had meaning for Lucy and Desi, but for all the people that came to UA-cam to look for this. I think we all share in the pain they had felt at that time, and possibly in our own lives....
so nostalgic and lovely!
Edie Adams always makes me smile
i saw the PBS show about the behind the scenes of i love lucy -and they said on set after they filmed this scene everyone was in tears. it was an end of an era.
I love how classically beautiful Edie is.
I come back to this every once in awhile.. still as good as the first time I heard it.
What a beautiful voice on Edie Adams I remember this episode on The Lucy Desi Comedy Hour it was a very good one
Chase Jackson They were very much still in love with each other until the day they both died.
i wld agree 100%...there is an interview o utube done with Lucille n Gary by B.walters in 1977....this is the most candid lucille has ever spoken about desi but it was clear that she sill loved him n was resentful because desi through their love away....i have read mny stories where Desi heavy drinking and gambling were credited to the stress of running desilu while filimng i love lucy....i am sure that those were major contributors...but i am sure the demands of married life was also a major contributor..
Such a beautiful song and yes there are no more singers like this anymore its a shame :(
Ana Herrera , sad and so true!! , may I suggest . Alyna baraz ? She has an Angelical voice .
So much love & light to every person that’s ever experienced a love like this 🖤
This is classic I can only think what Lucy and Ricky where thinking...A perfect song for this situation
"That guy on the couch next to Lucille Ball" is none other than the great comedic and television innovator, Ernie Kovacs.
I fell in love with this song as I watched this episode as a little girl. I never knew this would be the last episode. 😭❤️
Wow, she is stunning. I can't believe I've never seen this rendition of the song.
Makes me cry. Her voice is beautiful. Her interpretation is soulful. And given that this was the last episode and the end of Lucy and Desi's marriage...Oh, it just breaks my heart.
A stunning voice and a stunning woman. Lucille Ball looks amazing in this scene too.
But then she got to meet the love of her life, Gary Morton and he found happiness as well
Alicia Coburg Love her life? That was Desi; Lucy herself later said, that she should have stuck with him.
Ciaran Ryan I disagree
Alicia Coburg You disagree with Lucille Ball who said that she should have stuck it out with Desi?
Ciaran Ryan When did she say that? Because I watched an interview where she talked about how she had nothing with Desi and valued the love and respect she had with Gary
It's 2025 and still watching I Love Lucy ❤ It saddened me to hear the story behind the recording of this episode.
Think about it...no mixing...editing....just all laid out there, and beautiful to the tee
Didn't miss a note...
Wow...
i just saw the movie on netflix cried, laughed and got mad at desi. what a great pair!!! I LOVE LUCY!!!
This song brought me to tears. Even though it's been so long since Lucille and Desi died. I still can't get over it. I feel like their divorce was a great American tragedy. Truly it was
Well, Desi cheated on her all the time. THAT's the tragedy
I saw this again tonight, because of the circumstances. It brought tears to my eyes again. Love you Edie.
TV at it's finest, the classic days are behind us, but at least we can re-live them. Wonderful voice, wonderful sitcom.(Lucille and Desi R.I.P.)
This totally just made me cry. It's incredibly bittersweet that such a beautiful song could sum up their relationship...and they divorce the very next day..
Ethel can play the piano! That's wonderful. What a talent.
i love this song from Edie Adams
This exquisite performance is perhaps one of the all time highlights of the entire "I Love Lucy" run, which had so many. Beautiful voice, beautiful song and who knew that Vivian Vance was such an accomplished pianist? Time stops when watching this.
Viv wasn't playing. It was Desi's pianist.
@@4string59. I did not realize that. Then it must have been Marco Rizo, the pianist for the Desi Arnaz Orchestra in real life as well as on the show. But Vivian Vance does a great job pretending! They don't normally show the hands of fake piano playing.
@@carlfrano6384 I think Vivian could actually play piano, so could fake it better than many actors who had to pretend to play.
It brings tears to my eyes every time I watch this. thank you for posting
Makes me sad knowing that Desi and Lucy's marriage was falling apart :(
