Michael Cera - Failure
Step 1: Leave door unlocked.
Step 2: Wait for Aubrey Plaza to walk in.
Canada is fun.
Brb, moving to Canada
Unless Aubrey plaza is a 30 year old man in black with a knife
then sure
Canada is fun.

I really love this. I felt scared and uncomfortable and weird. It was a sweet metaphor life. I just sneezed into my open jar of peanut butter. Crap.
Accurate title.
get out me house
What does it mean?
The video is basically saying, you have to make the changes you want to see in your life yourself, in this instance, michael is socially awkward and he probably wishes someone would just appear, but, when they actually do, he realizes that its not a coincidence hes alone all the time, and even if someone is right in front of him, he is still the same socially awkward person, you cant eat the candy before the dinner, you have to grow first, man I love this video.
over analyse ? I just saw an awkward/wtf scene possibly in an asylum environment (realistically speaking).
CollMomo1 No he's not over-analyzing. There has to be a point to the video, and based on Cerra's reaction after she leaves, indicates he is right.
assmane999 well the reasoning is a stretch but it is obviously symbolic to some extent towards relationships.
i believe the house represents his heart. a girl just walked in and he feels uncomfortable letting her stay. he tried to avoid letting her see the rest of his house (heart) because he felt embarrassed of the mess. he wanted her to stay but didn't want her to get too close so as a result she left.
Nick Shull I like that analogy. It seems to work.
I love how this is literally just what Michael Cera would probably do if a beautiful mysterious woman actually broke into his home.
right, cuz otherwise its a random short done by famous people with no other special qualities
Ka'lika T. Fria'niquia boy if you don't get yo ol' lopsided hairline as outta here
Paisley Hicks preacher telling the truth and it hurts
Interesting. :)
Ka'lika T. Fria'niquia Pretty sure it's supposed to represent relationships or something idk I'm not a story
Michael come back to UA-cam, we need more of your short films.
"It's messy up here; I' embarassed"... sweet deep line
Damn I never noticed that!:0
He says I'm
great video, thanks for adding me in your circles, nice to have you there too)
Thanks for adding me Michael. :)
Hey... very surprised that you started following me but it is appreciated... How are you today?
I really liked this one.... gregory go boom not so much
This is a genuinely good piece!!!!!!
That's everyday relationship failure. Someone random comes up accidently, being rejected at first because of fear, trying to talk for a while, then just goes away... It's hard to realize how many people we reject and how many times we ourselves are rejected. And then we die.
Your fun at parties.
Mike J *You're
Mike J You're not.
Yeha not me man no rnadom person has ever initiated first contact with me in my whole life
one thing I've started to realize about Cera's short films is that everything is symbolic. I had to watch this twice to really glean something from it. I think this short film is symbolic of relationships with women; they come into your life suddenly, out of nowhere, and he fears the intimacy at first, but in retrospect realizes it was a relationship worth having. if nothing else, I find it to be an intriguing, well-acted short
Tiddy Bangbang Either you're joking or you're an idiot.
I agree jeremy. I think it was beautiful
Tiddy Bangbang WWWHHHHAAAAATTTT?!
i like seeing that people can have different views on things. You may have not agree with them but it says something about the video then doesn't it. The first time I watched this I kind of just shook my head and went onto gregory goes boom which I loved. I came back to this and imagined myself in that spot of michael cera. I would have to agree with Jeremy, excellent view on it. Spot on. My eyes did catch the breaking dish the second time through, and how he said "that was stupid".
Thanks for the review Ebert and Roper.
Michael you sweet sweet gift from the heavens. Looking forward to working with you.
lol

How'd it go?! :)
Guys what do you not get
THE HOUSE SYMBOLIZES HIS HEART
that's an interesting interpretation, I'll take it
Oh my God. Dont do this. That's beautiful.
i like this even more now!
cool interpretation
So his heart is really big. Brag much, Michael Cera?
Interesting.. Makes sense, heartbreak. I like this interpretation.
the use of the music from your album makes this even better
what's the name of the song that plays where he kicks her out?
I'm not sure it's not from true that maybe it was made for this? the begining is uhohtrouble and the credits are Too Much
shazam
a lovely story of two lesbians celebrating a jewish wedding
this xD
Cx Stark lmfao
"Failure II": Same setup, except this time Michael lives in Florida.
Scene I: He shoots her dead.
When Aubrey Plaza is in your house... you don't question it haha xD
women just walk in and out of your life
Like one of the previous comments mentioned, the house represents his heart. With that in mind, the sudden emergence of the young woman and his reaction towards it represents his surprise or unfamiliarity at having connections with girls.I believe the girl isnt just one girl, but rather, symbolically speaking, all the possible mates he's had chances with. She changes her accent a couple of times. She used a latina, black woman, and whatever other accents i cant remember. When he breaks the plate, and says "that was stupid", signifies how easily he deters himself from seeking a relationship because of silly mistakes that he makes. Which is because of his social awkwardness. I wanna write more, but that is too much for a comment; I guess.
Thanks for explaining this. I always wondered why people that wanna put a message out there don't just say it in a sincere moment on video (internet, TV). Music too. In this case maybe he's shy to say it but feels the need to put it out. I dunno.
This happend to me once the girl was tripping hard on some sort of drug a couple months later she took her life i still think about her everyday and wondered if my words wouldve gotten trough to her
Damn we need more of Aubrey Plaza and Michael Cera...
Michael you are adorable.
Dude Micheal Cera is actually a freaking amazing director. Holy crap i cant wait for a full film one day super cool adding someone new to my list of favorite directors.
I love this so much, There is something really special about it. I thought Aubrey Plaza hated Michael Cera, but they are amazing working together.
'The good ones aren't looking for an ego boost, they are looking for a real person.' very true
Michael, we miss you.
I have a few questions about this video: what kinda cereal was that?
I love how everyone is talking about how she could’ve been his or in a relationship but she could’ve been a killer for all we know 😂😂😂
He has an opportunity to start a relationship with an attractive, interesting woman dropped right on his lap, but his fears and insecurities prevent him from taking advantage of it. Later he regrets squandering the opportunity, which has once again left him alone. The story of my life.
wonderfully said, I have often felt like this as well
There's always the chance she'll wait for him to fall asleep so she can harvest one of his kidneys.
Attractive and interesting perhaps but if she'll break into your house on a whim you can expect more of the same in the future. Js
Oh shut that shit up. For her to walk in like that she’s clearly fucking crazy
Cera and plaza are awesome, they are so underrated, aubrey plaza would be so much fun to hang out with, love them
Scott Pilgrim and Julie P.!!!!
Good stuff, These shorts are entertaining are not the same old stuff we see on TV and we don't need to watch an indie flick with 1h30 of filler for 1 good scene.
If Cera wrote/played that guitar intro music...then I'm really impressed.
he did the intro
He did all the music in this short. Its all on his self produced bandcamp album.
I loved this. I think this is the best short film Cera has had on his channel so far. It's the perfect length, has great acting, the right amount of comfortableness, is hilarious, and shot beautifully. Props to all involved! Cera is definitely a talented director.
SCOTT WAS THAT JULIE! BUT HOW ABOUT RAMONA!!
In the Jash series I have been watching all the films of one author before moving to another. I just finished with Tim and Erics spot on awkwardness and anti humor and now onto Michael Cera. I wasn't sure what to expect, but interesting. I found with T&E the more I watched them the more I liked them or appreciated their type of videos, I think that goes with a lot of these styles of video.
Watch your back Micheal,,,🖕
oml i heard they were going to "tie the knot"?? i want to cry. I always felt so connected to audrey. & i've always been in love with Michael. MICHAEL IT COULD HAVE BEEN USSssss
It’s called Failure for a reason. To me this is about fear squandering rare, unexpected once-in-a-lifetime opportunities. The line “it’s messy up here” says it all. The man’s mind is too self-conscious and not ready to accept a loss of control and necessary leap of faith. A risky investment versus safe stagnation; what would you choose? One thing’s for sure, the woman (or opportunity) is now gone and is not coming back.
The shattered plate reminds me of the broken pieces in the world conversation in Nick and Norah. We don’t find the pieces; we are the pieces that must be put together. Woman attempted it, but Man failed.
Aubrey sure loves to play the crazy role. I wonder if she researches mental health issues, and then behaves like so in RL! She seems a bit kooky like that.
If a collection of random words are put together there is ultimately some reason why those words were chosen in the first place if not applied or knowledgeably placed then subconsciously. Everyone is an effort. If Cera made a video about 3 spoons he used to eat 6 bowls of rice and then ran into a tree on his late night jog and then met a dog that he took home as his pet, it appears random but always there is a true purpose, whether it deep or not. Welcome psychology.
Eres un gran actor, saludos desde México
Well done, Michael. I'm going to send you a video in a few weeks.
Michael must be very excited
Never kick out Aubrey Plaza
Aubrey Plaza can do whatever she wants with me
Another video of Michael Cera playing Michael Cera directed by Michael Cera with music by Michael Cera uploaded by Michael Cera
This is good. It made me have feelings. I usually don't have feelings. I mean I do. But not the kind of feeling I feel from this.
hello fellow quarantine watchers
I’m here right after watching Scott pilgrim vs the world, very weird and awesome film!😆
Hey, Michael Cera! Big fan. I just wanted to let you know that I think it's incredibly awesome that as such a high profile star, you're putting out easy access independent material for people to enjoy online. I respect that a lot. Keep it up!
The House Is His Heart
Sometimes you need to take a leap of faith to find something worth jumping for.
Michael wax and a great actor would love to meet him personally love the movies he did very good.
When you want the creepy girl who broke into your house to come back...
my father used to be in a bunch of short films like this when he was in college.
this is why you should never lock your door! So hot chicks can just come right in....
i don't think this a metaphor for anything everybody always wants everything to mean something else all deep and poetic and shit its just like bob dylans songs everyone thinks every word is a metaphor when he even said himself that his songs are just random words that mean nothing that's what this video is a random video for the hell of it not a secret a message about love and broken hearts and shit its nonsense he probably just made it out of boredom
Are you kidding?? Plaza couldn't play bubbly if she were possessed by Tinkerbell, Snow White, and Minnie Mouse simultaneously. Harley Quinn has to be played by the right actress. There is a lot of under-utilized talent out there, like Krysten Ritter from Don't Trust the B in Apartment 23, Mila Kunis even though I hated her in Oz, Katy Perry (maybe?), Jane Levy of Suburgatory. I hope that they don't go with one of the usual suspects. Most A-list actresses are old, and new blood would be nice.
WAIT so he watches t.v. in his bedroom and sleeps on the couch
Caramel macchiato for F****** Pilgrim.
Allan
Fantastic. That was my girlfriend once. Not aubrey, obviously, but that girl in the short. she scared me then, and I'm still scared. You're better off Man played by Michael Cera.
U dont relize that if u say "That was fucking retarded" u will get hate. Its ok to have an opinion, but u can fraise it a bit differently or just not watch the vid.
When you've lived the life of an average guy and no woman finds you attractive it's pretty freaky to gain wealth or fame and suddenly every woman wants you. That's what this was about. Steve-O talked about this on Stern.
From a girls point of view, this makes like no sense lol. But after reading the other comments, it would make better sense from a guys point of view. Good one.
This is actually a terrifying concept
Cera obviously doesn't understand that, if Aubrey Plaza appears in your home, you don't question it!
Wow
Whos here in 2021
Why do i love this
I'm not entirely sure what I just watched.
get off your hipster high horse. he interpreted the way he saw it. all art is subjective.
was i the only one who thought she was a demon or something?
Is that Julie Fucking Powers?
"think so?...or know so."
music is soooo nice
Me and who
I feel like I just woke up from a good dream
Aubrey Plaza can come into my house whenever she damn well pleases.
This actually makes me feel really shitty about my life. Nice vid.
NO!!! NOT YOU!!
That stopped being funny a long time a go Scott.
Scott Pilgrim Nuff Said ^_^ -You Rule Dude
Dude..... Incredible emotion. I love the comedy and brutal truth you have in these films. The camera tells such a story by itself. Brilliant work I love the projects getting better and better man. Such an inspiration.
Enjoyed. There was a frigid sense of startled insecurity, despite it being what he wanted with her to begin.
who else was waiting to see who will get laid
odeee scared at first .... but cool vid
I wish Aubrey Plaza would turn up randomly at my house.
leaked footage of scott pilgrim and julie powers almost fall in love together (2013, high quality)
his house represents his heart. duh.
Maybe shes the angel of death?
i love you michael cera
