Let's leave this MMA vs.Boxing aside for time being. Now this coming UFC 146 between Junior Dos Santos vs. Frank Mir. Who will win and why ? Any predictions ?
Boxing is a great sport, but you can't compare you're average boxer to you're average MMA fighter. The MMA fighter (particularly in the UFC) Is a far more well balanced and skilled fighter who is far more conditioned, skilled and technical because of the application of martial arts it their training regiment. UFC fighters are world class in their abilities, most UFC fighters today would put a modern boxer to shame even if the match was just a stand-up bout without any ground fighting etc. The grappling they apply via Judo as well as the powerful striking they gain through training in various martial arts such as a Karate, Muay Thai etc when combined with elements of boxing puts the striking seen in most boxing matches to shame. MMA is on a whole nother than Boxing. Boxing is one form of fighting, MMA is an arsenal of fighting techniques that includes boxing.
Professional boxing fight lasts ten times longer than mma fight. I wouldn't say they have worse conditioning and average boxer could beat average mma fighter just as well especially in boxing. Fighters like Junior dos Santos have won plenty of fights just by boxing. Boxer can be a lot more skilled in boxing than mma fighter and demolish. You make a lot of stupid generalizations.
jengaaaaa I'd disagree boxing fights go on alot longer yes,but by average you're average boxer is fighting a no-name fighter or somone with a sub-part record. Compare that to the UFC (or Pride before it) and the MMA fighters are fighting much closer competition by average and it's why it's almost impossible to see an MMA fighter win 30 straight fights in a row. While a boxer may fight a bunch of no names before fighting somebody worth while, the MMA fighter in the high up organizations is almost always fighting the best people in the division with every fight they go into. Take Kimo Slice as an example. His MMA record was pretty lousy, he couldn't even win four fights in a row and never became anything close to the UFC champion that his sponsors wanted him to be. However, when Splice moved to boxing, he did significantly better winning 7 straight fights in a row with far less difficulty. If the average boxer is better then the average MMA fighter, then how the hell did Kimbo preform so miserably in the UFC while preforming so well as a professional boxer. Or how Francis Botha was able to win 35 straight fights in his boxing career, but could barely win 2 fights in a row in his kickboxing career, or last more that 2 minutes against Yoshihiro Akiyama in their MMA bout. If anything stuff like this shows how much better MMA fighters and Kickboxers are by average then the average boxer.
Godzilla52 That is complete bullshit there are people like Brock Lesnar who trained very little in MMA and marched to the heavyweight champion position. And Kimbo fucking Slice will never be anywhere near the heavyweight champions of boxing. Saying Kimbo is even a good boxer is atrocious claim. Almost every division has a solid champion in mma like Jon Jones or Cain Velasques. There is little to no challenge for them at the moment. I think mma is a lot more entertaining but thats about it.
jengaaaaa For one thing, Lesnar was extraordinarily overpraised and only got the championship because Dana let him do it early (even though he probably shouldn't have and if Lesnar were in Pride, he would have never made it that far). For another His MMA record is pretty sub par (5-3). Secondly, I never said Kimbo Slice was a great boxer, I said he did alot better in Boxing because its true. Boxing is easier; that's why Slice was able to win 7 boxing matches in a row (all by KO) where as he couldn't even win 4 MMA matches in a row. Even really good boxers like Francis Botha didn't preform that well when the moved to MMA or Kickboxing. The quality for MMA fighters by average is just superior to that of Boxers. You mentioning the winning streaks of Velasques and Jones is ridiculous compared to winning streaks of guys like Tyson or Mayweather. If you look at the great Boxers in history, its not at all uncommon to see them easily win 30-40 (sometimes even 50) fights in a row because the quality of fighters they fight by average is nowhere near as close as it is in the UFC or Pride before it. For an MMA fighter to win 20 straight fights, that's a huge accomplishment. Anderson Silva, GSP and Jones are all considered to be some of the best fighters to ever grace the sport, but not one of them has won 20 straight fights without a draw or loss to break to streak. Your logic doesn't hold up. Plus with Werdum vs. Cain, there could be a new Heavyweight champion this year. Maywheater's not going anywhere and he hasn't lost one of his 47 fights and if you look at most of those names on wikipedia, more than half of them aren't even well know enough to have a wikipedia page or extensive profiles on most sports/boxing websites. That alone speaks for itself.
jengaaaaa just to let u know about jds. he won multiple fights with his boxing skills, but not alone, just look how much he trains grappling techniques. that training allowed him to use his boxing skills, he have great takedown defence and even when some1 takes him down he comes back up because he has trained 4 that. with boxing alone he couldn't be close to where he is. also if some1 trains grappling only he would have serious problems in mma fight because he's 1sided. every fighter have his dominant or primary skills but he must train other stuff because in mma, or simply street fight, against well trained opponent is much more useful to know more then 1 style.

Boxing is not dying it's actually coming in spades this year, mega fights just a few months away. And manliness aside, standing 8 counts are more technical and to me more pleasing than the MMA varient, which is more dynamic and exciting I'll admit, because when you get dropped and take a standing 8 count you now have to adjust and adapt, strategically figure out how to avoid whatever punch it was and however it was set up. MMA you see guys smell blood get reckless, and plenty of fights are
dempsey did wrestling and judo as well. the problem is how MMA is perceived. MMA is a combat sport that an athlete can possibly make a successful transition to if they have experience in combat sports. succesful MMA fighters can be kickboxers, wrestlers, boxers, judo and jiu jitsu guys, muay thai etc. succesful MMA fighters at the top have had some kind of background in a specific art. so yes, boxers can be succesful at MMA, but it depends on the individual if they can make the transition
Thanks. Yeah, Ive been doing Sanda, Boxing, and Muay Thai for about 12 years combined. Also did some Kali and a bit of wrestling but never stuck with it. Whats your real name so I can look up some of your training videos or bouts?
It's really simple actually, why boxing is dying. People do not wish too watch 12 rounds, just using over-padded fists. MMA fighters are by far more exciting, bring more excitement to the screen. The big difference is, that a boxer is not able to do what a MMA fighter is able to do in a ring. I am not saying boxing is bad, far from it but in a real fight dancing around like a butterfly, and sting like bee with your fists. Is just complete bullshit, check what happened to Mike Tyson, he broke his HAND on a clocking a guy with bare fist. I do not call that winning. A MMA fighter, kicks like a mule and can take a real fight to realistic winning proportions compared to just a boxer. Boxing is done, even the punches you see in MMA are far from traditional boxing...and why they train at boxing gyms and dojo's? Because it's to get a good basic knowledge of techniques. After that, they will all join the MMA training schools out there, that take it to the next level. Sorry ...mere fact.
I disagree. At the high levels, boxing is still eclipsing MMA. They are different sports, but boxing makes more money. BUT, the reason at the regional level MMA is doing better is because they make their shows an event. They got the music, the girls, the atmosphere. Boxing is still stuck with old guys in hats and cigars... I used to box, now compete in TKD and am about to transition to Muay Thai (since I live in Thailand). They're all different. Can't compare, and shouldn't try.
Michel Linschoten Well that's true at one level, but certainly not at others. The top end earners earn more today than ever before. It's the smaller venues where boxing is hurting. not because of MMA. The idea that they are in competition is simply not true. Two different sports. They are not competing with each other.
Actually they are, tons of boxers call mma a joke. And tons of mma fighter challenged boxers to enter the octagon. Check the vids of dana white and floyd mayweather how they fire at one other. They are competing, it makes good media drama i guess.
I can't believe a man that is involved with a sport where half the fighters have criminal records, fight fixing is rampant and is crawling with organized crime would make such a ludicrous statement.
Absolutely agreed, this day and age is rare to see a fight 1 on 1, a lot of these mma fanboys have never even been in a fight before and I've trained both so I'm objective, not just talking out of my ass. Glad to see you're like the only person on this video that isn't just another stupid mma fanboy, have a good one man.
at any rate...many many mma fighters lack the hand skills to keep a belt. punching/kicking takes YEARS to get good. ...grappling takes time to get right, just not nearly as much time to be adequate.
+Johnny Kaldani It's the opinion of a highly regarded sports individual. Pretty sure you should speak up to such defamatory claims as this guy is making. Either that or like you say, just roll over and take the bs lying down.
Ok.What's your take on the fight between veterans Rich Franklin and Cung Le. Many are saying Rich has the advantage bcos he's dropped a weight class down to middleweight.
Boxing IS a martial art. So is wrestling. A boxer is just someone really good with their hands, so it's like if the mixed martial artists trained nothing but punching. But they have to train all things because it's a real fight instead of a punching match where anything goes, so they can't focus solely on punches and have to dedicate time to other aspects of fighting.
I wouldn't even disgrace MMA's top fighters by putting them in the same room with a boxer. I'm confident undercard MMA fighters would wipe the floor with the best boxers in the world.
he means that a low skilled mma fighter would lose from a high skilled boxer and a low skilled boxer would lose from a high skilled mma fighter.. it's all about skills not about legs or arms
Boxing is about 100 years old, MMA is a mix of ancient and new fighting styles. If anything MMA is the more true fighting style, one must be good at a lot of disciplines to be a good MMA fighter. A boxer only needs to learn 3 things first, fast hands, second quick reflexes, third foot placement to lead in punches. MMA requires all that and how to grapple on to the ground, how to defend a tackle, clinch control, submission game. That is just basic MMA as well. To the laymen it seem like two dudes rolling on the ground hugging, but when one adds a modicum of prior knowledge when viewing these dudes, or past experience, you learn that it is just as fascination as any straight of fist-to-cuffs brawl.
please you want to know the truth about mma its just muay thai and jujitsu thats it two fighting styles thats about it .its not diverse there is no mastery too it .its just dirty boxing
***** how did couture beat him ? let me guess take down locked him up ? theres nothing old about mma its essentially kick boxing and ju jitsu .99% of all fights ive seen the fighters will use the same moves side kicks and hooks and jabs and when they dont work they spear them to the ground goldberg style and try and get them into a arm lock or somthing . lets not make a mountain out of a mole hill .mma was made a few years back theres nothing ancient about it there is no such thing as a master of mma because its not a real martial art like say kung fu is .a real martial art takes years to master thats why martial arts is so old and ancient .by it being compared to some ancient fighting style is just cheapening the culture it derived from .mma is something some stoner thought up at the last moment lets throw kick boxing and jujitsu together and call it mixed martial art . mma derives from backyard boxing its dirty boxing you can use kicks and grapples that's all it is .
***** do your research dude dont listen to guys like dana white and bas ruten , mma isn't a real martial art most martial arts have roots in self defense mma is for the sport aspect of it .the mixed just means there are mixed sport fighting styles i wouldn't bank on mma too save my life in a life or death situation on any day neither should you .stop drinking that koolaide and.quit listening to people who will get you killed in a real life fight.real martial arts teach self defense in street real life situations a mma teacher cant and doesnt teach you that .rules dont apply to a real fight

***** Have you ever heard the expression, "The sun even shines on a dog's ass someday"? Now apply that to your cited fight and there you go.
As an Asian, I didn't know I was a skinhead. I love mma and have yellow skin, no tats, and full head of hair (for now God willing). A classic skinhead.
ariel helwani's greatest interview for damn sure... no other is even close
Who the fuck is Bob Arum?
+twomindz79 pacqauiaos promoter... the new don king
+Spiderman new don king? dude arum been steLing from fighters since before thrilla in manilla! don king is black so he got all of the negativity while euro jew arum flew under the radar
spike lee shine city
brian bowles lol
He is the diet Don King .....
irony is both Ariel and Bas are skin heads! haha also GSP and Hendo!
RichCwm wow i guess Bob was just lucky huh . No whites make up most of the mma fan base especially white skin heads beer drinkers
Ariel is a Jew so he’s Arum’s kin, even though he’s a Mizrahi.
I never liked Bob Arum....until I watched this!
...another frustrated boxer that has no balls to step into MMA ring.
this is for real men, kid. You stay there, protected by 1000 rules, bobing and weaving like a mental patient.
ardelean ion I thought boxers were the ones who step into the ring. MMa fighters use the cage or octagon. I dont know shit but Manny Pacquiao looked pretty good against an undefeated boxer/ex kickboxer the other night, actually, he beat his ass.
Boyleroster oneroster
in a boxing match.........
@@ardeleanion4435 Holly Holm crossed over to ufc and won title...name me one mma fighter to do the same ?
@@karld83women fighters don’t count
The last statement nailed it. Arum is just trying to keep people watching his dying sport...
And he doesn't mind using false racial slurs to make his point!
But he's a Jewish Democrat who endorsed Hillary Clinton, so it's pretty much par for the course!
He just wants to make money he'll find another way to make it after him and his kin destroy boxing.
Bas Rutten is the absolute man. One of the best fighters in history, and more importantly, he speaks the truth.
bas rutten is trying too hard, what arum said wasnt racist, he said white racists love ufc, which is true
they got championship by winning against the champs... that there is racist fans doesn't matter on who wins! lol! it's not like you call in and vote for your favorite! lmao
rar r That's not true.
Zeezorom Lars this from the same people who thought the earth was flat but i have the low iq lol hilarious
What arum said was racist the only reason you think it wasn't is because you're a racist too.
When Arum said "rolling around on the ground like homosexuals" I couldn't stop laughing.
"Hey GOogle... Pull up the early life section of Robert ARum"
MMA you see guys smell blood get reckless, and plenty of fights are
Bob Arum should be banned from Yankee Stadium for the short amount of years he has left given his age and antiquated view about the world.
Bad Rutten and Colin Farrell look like they could be brothers !💪👊
fast forward to today and jake paul proved this guy right
Bas Rutten lays down the facts like a BOSS. Bob Arum's gotta check his facts first before talking.
dempsey did wrestling and judo as well. the problem is how MMA is perceived.
They cry 😭 out as they strike 🤛 you.
George's response cracked me up though.
Leaving the controversy aside, watching GSP sharing the studio with Hendo on Inside MMA, the feels....
Thanks. Yeah, Ive been doing Sanda, Boxing, and Muay Thai for about 12 years combined. Also did some Kali and a bit of wrestling but never stuck with it. Whats your real name so I can look up some of your training videos or bouts?
Who the hells he callin a white guy ,eh
Agree with that Santos has the upper hand.
Dan Henderson hit the nail in the head.
holy crap thats the guy who fought captain america in winter souldier
Brian Bowles was right on point.
Kenny looks like he is always in fear of someone swearing. Haha!
"it is not a sport that shows great great talent", says the guy standing in a baseball stadium.
I remember when this first went out, I was getting just as irate as Bas did there! 🤣
FIGHTS, chicken, RUN AWAY, HELP! FIRED! floyd
You can disagree all you want, boxing is not nearly as popular as it was back in the day. That's factual.
Michel Linschoten They are not competing - they only think they are competing.
I AM NOT IMPRESSED
Bas must be the only MMA fighter who's won big fights without steroids. How can that be?
Hendo speaks the truth!
I can't believe a man that is involved with a sport where half the fighters have criminal records, fight fixing is rampant and is crawling with organized crime would make such a ludicrous statement.
Boxing vs MMA is like Firearms vs Firearms, Grenades, rocket launchers,etc..
It's just his opinion. Why make such a big deal? Always remember and never forget, "Sticks & stones may break my bones, but, words can never harm me."
"sticks and stones may break my bones but words always hurt more and leave me insecure" -boys these days
+Johnny Kaldani It's the opinion of a highly regarded sports individual. Pretty sure you should speak up to such defamatory claims as this guy is making.
Either that or like you say, just roll over and take the bs lying down.
i agree , we shouldn't compare them
Donald trumps gonna like that lol
Couldn't they get a more diverse panel for this argument?
Bob arum tells the truth
And Joven is a dumbass.
But they have to train all things because it's a real fight instead of a punching match where anything goes, so they can't focus solely on punches and have to dedicate time to other aspects of fighting.
let Bas talk. i wanted to hear more about Arum's bullshit.
I wouldn't even disgrace MMA's top fighters by putting them in the same room with a boxer. I'm confident undercard MMA fighters would wipe the floor with the best boxers in the world.
mma is a fighting game , boxing is a punching game !!
I pissed my self when GSP opened up with his joke.
Boxing and UFC can not be compared. Respect each others crafts and focus on you're training. Not someone else's.
Boxing is losing fans, MMA is gaining fans. That's why he made those comments; it's about the money.
he means that a low skilled mma fighter would lose from a high skilled boxer and a low skilled boxer would lose from a high skilled mma fighter.. it's all about skills not about legs or arms
"Next thing, this is gonna be put it on youtube!"
:)

@@thejman8734 arum isnt wrong

I'm a huge UFC fan but it is true that a lot of UFC fighters can't punch to save their lives nor do they have the same brick chins boxers have
Boxing is about 100 years old, MMA is a mix of ancient and new fighting styles.
Do you mean Tommy Hearns? He was shredded.
i mean defense to defend them selfs against an opponent. There's no need for a boxer to concentrate on self defense in a street fight
Simple truth: You can no longer call yourself the best fighter in the world if you can't defend simple kicks, takedowns & submissions.

LOL if this guy has any PR reps ....I feel so sorry for them.
Ya your right especially in the heavyweight division, but when Oscar Delahoia( lol I know I spelled his name wrong I can since it) I always turn on the match he is in.
I think you forgot about Ray Mercer(boxer) at the age of 48 KOing a UFC Heavyweight Champ in 1 punch in his professional MMA debut. Fight lasted 9 seconds.
