I am sorry, I am very nervous and moved, so I will deliver my speech as well as I can.
The emotion growing in me, as I lay eyes on this mythical room, is overwhelming. I am forever grateful for the recognition of your jury, and the quantity of love we were given during the whole festival, too, make me realize that, truly, we chose this job to love and be loved back, it is, somehow, the revenge of our imaginary loves (a reference to “Les amours imaginaires” (in French), his second movie who was also presented in Cannes).
I’d like to thank Nancy Grant, my producer, Patrick Roy, the Carmits (not sure), the Diaphana staff, everybody at E-one (not sur about the name either) - what a pleasure to be working with you, to feel understood, in spite of my flaws and doubts. Thanks to Thierry “Simon” (not sure) for believing in my movies and above all for believing in me, for carrying me, confronting me, and protecting me. Thank you Chrisitan Jeune for your friendship and complicity. Thank you Anne Dorval, Suzanne Clément and Antoine-Olivier Pilon (the three main actors in Mommy). You are actors but also creators, I admire you and love you. Thanks to my family and friends for their listening and love. It is certain that I forget a lot of friends but that is because I want to use this opportunity (to speak while the world is watching, he means) to address my generation and Jane Campion, in English. French is my first language, and the most beautiful one to me, but I want everybody to hear me.
      As far as I remember…
      (English part of the speech)
… and the one people will build for us.
In brief, I think that everything is possible to the one who dreams, dares, works and never gives up. May this prize be the most outstanding proof of it.
