That kissing scene (later in the movie) in the movie is one of the most beautiful/passionate I've ever seen. It was very well done & very moving

The love for each other flowed naturally. Intimate friends with a deep respect for one another, who were deeply in love, almost like an long time married couple. Until that moment of the kiss, the reality of loosing one's soul mate had not presented itself.

Only started watching Xavier Dolans movies recently and he is fast becoming my favorite director. So talented. Loved this movie as I have all of his movies that I've seen.

The film triggered a series of memories of life experiences in my late 20's and early 30's during the AIDS crisis. Emotions were hidden, supercharged, suppressed, forced into complacency; and desperate attempts at maintaining rigor could be defeated by word, an event, with the effect of shattering us into a thousand emotional pieces.

This interview suddenly makes me understand a lot of things. The movie gives me a feeling like “when did I start to love you so deeply back in those days when we were happy and things were fine.”/And now I realize I need you to be here but nothing is fine anymore.../

Watched it, really beatiful movie about two people adoring each other on every level and now even on "unappropriate" level and that is what scares them and confuses them, showed through a great movie. Way to go! ✌

I think it's grest to see a different viewpoint from the creator. That's how art works. I thought they have this oppressed feeling of love in the back of their mind, it was there but none of them were courageous enough to come clear.

Such an adorable admirable artist!!! the director with deeep thoughts of humanity! the actor with deep emotional acting who actually feels and have the feelings! the voice actor with an attractive talent to make us feel the characters are real! the person who actually cares about deep little unseen emotions and thoughts! a very smart guy with so many different talents and you see speaking English as awesome as he speaks French! a very handsome hot man who's actually so imperfect but still accepting himself and being himself and showing who ever he is and still hiding all personal things unbelievably!!! I'm sooo sooooo obsessed and impressed man! I can't help not confessing I Love you Xavier! ♥️

I got a totally different feeling from the movie. True they say that the author usually tells not what the reader/watcher gets. I got the idea that they understood they felt to each other something more than friendship. And attraction was totally there, that's why they were so confused and didn't know what to do with those feelings. But what Xavier's saying here breaks my understanding

This isn't the first time he's done this. He said there was no crying in his Les Amours Imaginaires movie, when there is a scene of he himself breaking down in a crying scene. It was beautiful, but hearing him completely even forget it was there makes me wonder what in the world is going on with him and his movies. Is HE really even making them? He clearly doesn't even understand the meanings of them!

@@HAL-dm1eh I guess we'll never understand an artist:) Anyway, I love his movies whatever he thinks they mean.

Yeah, never try to undertand an artist, and as a principle once a movie ( or any manifestation of art ) is out and available to the public whatever the author says about it is just a complement to one's perception.

I think that's what he's trying to say in the later part where he tells that they start to see each other as potential lovers and that they don't understand where it suddenly comes from if they've known each other for ever but sometimes love just comes knocking at your door. Idk, he confuses me a bit.
And that makes me question myself a bit again, because I, too, have a friend who I've known since forever and some time ago I also started to develop feelings for her and we went together into this movie (ironically) and I just FELT Matthias and Maxime way too hard. And I'm also questioning whether I'm really in love with her or if it's something I just make up inside my head.
But the way I've seen it, Max and Matt have some sort of internalized Homophobia against themselves and that's why they wouldn't accept their feelings for each other. That and probably fear of breaking their friendship.

@@DieVorleserin-ok8zr I agree with this comment (and also have exeprienced some simillar feelings myself). I think that this internalized homophobia is more visible in Matt and Max is more accepting of himself. But these are just my thoughts.

how can he say that they are not attracted to each other?? i think he meant not only attracted but in love for each other, because other way the whole movie doesn’t even make sense

Yes, I think that too. The way he said it was kinda weird but that's what I understood. To me, attraction, liking someone or loving someone are three differents things. I can be attracted to someone, but thats it, its like something more superficial. And then if I like someone, there's feelings involved.
So I think thats what he meant. Its not only attraction for them because they actually love each other, as friends, since they were little.
It must be really confusing to suddenly have this feelings for a friend, woman or man, it doesn't matter. Never happened to me. But I'd wonder the same thing "where was all this hiding?" haha.

This guy going on about being friends all their lives, then sleeping together but not being lovers, then dealing with being lovers, then not, on and on and on. This is paradigm type thinking and there's no need for it. It will be an infantile movie for confused children, much like him. He has made some amazing movies but this is another one I won't be watching.
