In terms of his influence on results, tactics, professionalism and sheer determination, he probably is the GOAT. But for outrageous talent and dragging the team over the line with something magic or superhuman, it’s Brian O’Driscoll. Blessed to have both of their careers overlapping.
I love your analysis and breakdown Dreyno. That makes a lot of sense. Both incredible players without a doubt
I’m impressed with how much you’ve learned about rugby and it shows you really enjoy the game. Congrats.
Thanks so much Pablo! That means a lot! I appreciate you 🙌🏽
It's tough to make a good Sexton compilation because he wasn't really a highlights player. He wasn't quick, he wasn't a flashy player, he just knew the game better than the other 29 guys on the pitch and found a way to win. He's going to make one hell of a coach because that's essentially what he was on the pitch, he knew his teammates' roles better than they did. He was the talisman that elevated Ireland and Leinster from European underdogs to the dominant force for the last 10+ years
Despite all that, O'Driscoll is still my GOAT
I can definitely understand that. I was in awe of his IQ. Just looked like he was so many steps ahead of the everyone else.
BOD is awesome!!
Bod was the real GOAT
Are you for real!!! He was quick and flashy!!!
Great synopsis
@@raymonddixon7603Quick, flashy and as intelligent as Sexton. Imagine a team with the two of them at the top of their game. It would either be a disaster or or a world beater
the play you were talking about where he wraps around after passing is known as the sexton loop
I love that name Sexton loop! Such a well executed and amazing play
@@QSNggopened teams up around 2018 nobody knew how to defend it obviously been well studied now and can be stopped easier but still a great way to create an extra man
It was never about Sextons speed or skill but his IQ and the ability to see the best play available.
I can definitely see that. Just from highlights I could see he was several steps ahead and knew where everyone was supposed to be. Such an incredible trait and skill
@QSNgg most people refer to that wrap around pass as a Sexton loop. He didn't invent it, but he made it a weapon like no other.
The fact that sexton not only maintained his form even his last few years but he actually somehow raised it to another level is truly remarkable
Absolutely right! He's amazing
I was in a pub full of Munstermen watching the 2011 Heineken Cup final between Leinster and Northampton. Needless to say everybody was for Saints lol. Leinster were down by roughly 15 points at the end of the 1st and he completely turned it all around scoring almost if not all the points for his side in the 2nd. You need to watch those game highlights to fully understand the legend!!
I will 100% check out the Heineken Cup 2011! Who do you have winning this weekend between Leinster v Northampton?
@@QSNgg I got Leinster. They’re a machine and playing in an 80,000-seater. But watch out for Saints though, they’ve bern outstanding all season
As a Saffa, high respect for Mr. Sexton. Also QSN, time to give the Forward players some love😍
He could do a vid about the beast or estebeth (irish fan).
Yes I'm making more Forward videos now! They deserve more love from me 100%
I have an Estebeth video here:ua-cam.com/video/BqSqYHtDunU/v-deo.html and will do Bundee Aki, Porter and more now too
In six nations matches being away is much tougher than home matches. Sexton kick was away in France also.
That's awesome he executed that kick on away turf. He's ice cold!
For drop goals, you must also see Jonny Wilkinson.
And tackling too, he was the best defensive 10 ever. It did cost him a lot in injuries though.
Watch closely when you see his winning drop goal against Australia. He hits it with his right foot, even though his left is stronger. He trained obsessively to be ready for moments like that.
Thanks for letting me know Ned! I'm checking out Jonny Wilkinson for sure
That's awesome! I'm going to focus in and pay attention to his highlights. Thanks for letting me know
The clip at 19mins with the bad quality was him kicking a drop goal for his school in the early 2000s
Thanks for letting me know that Gavan. I appreciate you!
Love your commentary ! He lost a bit of pace in the latter years but his rugby brain seemed to grow over time ! And of course, that wrap-around !! Thanks
Thanks so much Roderick! I appreciate you! You said it perfectly, his brain and IQ was something special
Thanks ive been waiting for another video on irish rugby
No problem! Thanks for checking out my videos. I appreciate you!
Last Rugby World Cup, when Ireland lost to the All Blacks in the Semi finals, Reiko Ioane said to Johnny Sexton to "Enjoy retirement" in a smartarse way 🤣 It was actually JS last game too lol
Hell of a player, from a Kiwi 🇳🇿
Thanks for the background story on Reiko and Johnny Sexton. I never heard that one before 🤣 Cool to see the competitive banter and respect shown in the game of rugby. I love it!
14:25 Yeah, tons of Ireland players play at Leinster. During the 2023 world cup, if everyone was fit I reckon 11 of the starting 15 would be Leinster men. (Tadhg Beirne, Peter O'Mahony, Bundee Aki and Mack Hansen being the exceptions).
It's about team cohesion. The prevailing wisdom seems to be starting with one of your stronger provinces, keeping more or less to that team's playstyle and just using the other provinces for depth and to round out their weaknesses. In Ireland's case that "base" team tends to be Leinster.
With Munster's Crowley at 10, the way Ireland play is already starting to change a bit. I wonder if we're going to see a few more Munster picks in the future to reflect that preference for long spells in possession. Ideally you need a certain kind of pack to back that playstyle up. It'll be interesting to see going forward.
Thanks for letting me know about Leinster. I'm doing my best to learn club now and it is super helpful to know how they structure their team
It's going to be interesting like you mentioned to see if Munster adopts the same philosophy. Seems to me working very well for Leinster
Are you watching them play Northhampton this weekend?
Now there speaks a man who knows his onions!
@QSNgg As always I appreciate the response. What I meant is Ireland might end up picking some more Munster players to suit the gradual shift in their (Ireland's) play style
@@mikekelly5869 You'd be amazed what you pick up by watching enough Squidge and listening to Three Red Kings for specific Munster/Ireland coverage!
That drop goal at the beginning was the 6 nations 2018 Ireland went on that year to win the 6 nations and the grand slam ....😊😊😊
That's awesome! I wished I was that live!
@QSNgg imagine being a irishman like me I almost broke my foot jumping around they place 😅
Bro has 6years of understanding in a minute
I appreciate you boss! 🙌🏽
For the Americans, sexton is like tom brady,he was not the most athletic guy, but by sheer force of nature and determination he drove his club and country to multiple trophies
Very great comparison Joe! I didn't think of it from that perspective
16:05 that play is called a loop. it was used before JS as well, but he definitely contributed to its popularity.
you can see how the game developed as earlier in the video you could see a loop with Sexton getting the ball off an inside pass, while nowadays it’s more common to play it on the outside with a dummy runner hitting a flat hard line to deceive the defender. Sexton, with his IQ, has surely been one of the best promoters of this brand of rugby made of geometry, running lines and set plays made in open play
It's so beautiful to see how the game evolves just through the footage. I'm learning how the plays are set up and executed now. It's so cool to see when a player like Sexton has such command of the field and incredible awareness
Brian O'Driscoll is still Ireland's GOAT for me. Sexton is close though. Sexton would come around the back like that all the time to the point that some started calling it the Sexton loop/wrap-around.
Yeah BOD is still clearly number one imo. He’s in the pantheon of the greatest players ever, regardless of country.
Thanks for letting me know it's called the Sexton loop. Such a cool play and brilliant execution!
BOD is awesome!
Johnny sexton is a legend 🇮🇪
I agree 100%
Been enjoying the awesome content since your first reaction video and impressed by how quickly you've grown your knowledge of the game. Just an FYI but Maori is pronounced "mow-ri".
Keep up the great content!
Thanks so much Daniel I really appreciate you boss! Also, thanks for the correct pronunciation of Maori as well. I'll get that right from here on.
Much love 🙌🏽 ❤️
If you havn't covered him, Peter Stringer is well worth a look. Another Legend from the previous gen of Irish Rugby.
I'll definitely check out Peter Stringer. Thanks for the recommendation 🙌🏽
Brilliant brain and stratagist too.❤
I agree Patricia! ❤️
Flyhalf is like a quarterback in american football
Thanks for that. Both the 9 and 10 are a mix of QB from what I've been learning
Arguably one of the greatest flyhalfs of the modern age, a master tactician and incredibly good at reading the game.
Sexton was highly regarded as the one to lead Ireland to their first ever Rugby World Cup last year and the Northern Hemisphere's great hope to win only their second world cup but obviously fell short to the All Blacks in quarters.
It’s NOT arguable at all about who is greatest flyhalf! It’s Dan Carter of AllBlacks. Sexton is nowhere near the abilities of Carter
I can see how. I love how you described him as the master tactician. You said it so perfectly!
Rieko Ioane - don’t miss your flight home tomorrow wee johnny
I heard about that! haha
If Sexton was born in the states he would have been a QB . If he went to the NFL later in his career he could have been a punter with his kicking from hand accuracy and power and his ability to tackle if he had to . Or of course a kicker but I don’t think he’d have the ability to stay calm on the side line as a kicker, he always got involved in the physicality of the game , had multiple injuries in his career . He woulda hated not being out there
I agree and could see him at QB in the NFL. Someone mentioned he was like a Tom Brady, no the most athletic, but an absolute leader and general on the field. I see that 100%
Sexton is incredible
2:27 would like to see you react to those 41 phases against France 👌 I will never forget where I was when watching that game 🤯
I will for sure! That looked like such a tense and exciting moment!
Another suggestion for another half-backs, Danny Cipriani and the man with a monster of a boot, Frans Steyn. You should check them out sometimes.
Thanks for the suggestions on Danny Cipriani and Frans Steyn. I'm going to check them out
Please react to Daniel Carter, he is the best fly half of all time
I'm definitely checking out Daniel Carter. Thanks for the recommendation
You should take a look at Quade Cooper he is not anything like johnny sexton but personally i think hes one of the most entertaining players in his position
I'm 100% checking out Quade Cooper!
His tackling was a bit of an issue as he kept getting injured but he still managed to keep going to have a long career
It's good he was still able to have a long career through all that adversity
Another good 10 that you should check out Boden Barrett
100% checking out Beauden Barrett! He's on the list for sure
Please check out Jason Robinson he was a massive part of englands 2003 World Cup winning squad. He was FAST. in fact you should check out the entire team!
Yes 100% Jason Robinson is on my watch list
React to Shane Williams - THE GOAT
I will for sure! Shane Williams is highly requested
Honestly you need to do a video on Johnathan Davies. He cropped up quite a lot in this video 😆
I'll 100% do a Johnathan Davies video for sure!
You could basically take all of Sexton's Leinster teammates and put them in green jerseys & they would almost be as good as the full Irish squad. Their (Leinster's) squad are so damn good, in the club leagues they are almost unbeatable in Ireland & they make up a large majority of the Irish team. I once read an article by a rugby journalist who said that Leinster were so good because they had more money than God!
That's what I've been learning. I appreciate your incredible insight on this and Leinster. That makes a lot more sense to me now Ray. I love hearing how things work at the club level as I'm now learning more about it
@@QSNgg Cheers. In Ireland we have 4 provincial teams rather than city clubs throughout the rest of Europe (due to Ireland's small population). The players are affiliated with smaller feeder local clubs where they honed their rugby skills as kids & junior players & if they're good enough they are selected to go on to represent the provinces who play in international competitions like The URC (United Rugby Championship - Irish, Scottish, Welsh, Italian & South African teams) & The European Rugby Champions Cup (teams that qualify from the URC with English & French teams who qualify from English Gallagher Premiership & the French Top 14 included). The latter being one of the toughest & most gruelling team competitons in the world. I hope I've got all my facts right here!
In 2009 it was believed that Sexton was thinking of quitting professional rugby because Felipe Contepomi was in possession of the No 10 spot at Leinster. Then Contepomi got injured, Johnny stepped in and never looked back. For a number of years the 10 jersey of Ireland swapped back and forth between him and Ronan O'Gara but after Ronan retired Johnny became the undisputed first choice outhalf for Ireland.
Thanks for letting me know that history John! I love hearing the background and what was happening at that time. Very great insight. I appreciate you!
The option play is a loop. Johnny loves a loop
I love that loop! Cool they named it after him too
To play for the Irish national team you need to play for a club Ireland, so about 80% of the Irish team all play for Leinster
Thanks for letting me know that Calum! I appreciate the insight on that
Check out Campo, David Campese... The Wizard Of Oz
I will for sure check out Campo. Thanks for the suggestion. I appreciate you!
I am irish he is irish to
I have all the love and respect for Ireland 🇮🇪❤️
The game where he was wearing 22 - teams get rotated, and even the best players get rested sometimes, playing 80 minutes every week takes it out of you. And towards the end of his career Sexton got a bit more injury prone, so Leinster would save him for the big games.
Thanks for letting me know that Patrick. That makes a lot of sense
You need to react to Leinster tearing teams apart
I will for sure! Do you have them beating Northampton this weekend?
that wraparound is aptly called the sexton wraparound
I love that name!
Mate, are you going to review the new rugby documentary called Chasing the Sun 2? I see some of the other American rugby reactors are doing it. Quite big on UA-cam right now. Hit me up I can let you know how to watch it. Cheers. JJ.
Hey JJ! Yeah I will check it out for sure. What's the best way for me to watch it? I think I saw RugbyPass or some other network
would you be able to have a look at my local hero, the hard and unstoppable Tullow tank, Sean O' Brien
I'll check out both Tullow tank, Sean O' Brien. Thanks for letting me know
@QSNgg he is a great player and he just won the provincial town with tullow on Sunday the 21st of April this year
Greatest of all Time really just means greatest of the last 15 or so years since not many remember Mike Gibson, Jackie Kyle, Tony O'Reilly or even guys from the 1990s.
I'll check out all the men you mentioned Richard. Thanks for the recommendation on Mike Gibson, Jackie Kyle, Tony O'Reilly
Dropgoal in heavy rain .
Amazing! I didn't even factor that in. I appreciate you Kevin
His rugby iq was insane
You said it perfectly!
Have you reacted to Brian ODriscall?
I did! Here is my BOD video: ua-cam.com/video/YWWRrb7wE7M/v-deo.html
@@QSNgg TY 😊
Le drop ❤
Such a beautiful play!
It's called the Sexton loop
I love the name of that play too! Cool he got it named after himself. Such an amazing play
Can you react to Jacob stockdale
I'll definitely check out Jacob stockdale. I appreciate you!
I'm Irish
I have all the love and respect for you and Ireland 🍀🇮🇪
Ronan O Gara ,never got the help and support Johnny got ,look him up ,he was moved on fast to make way for Johnny on the irish team ,never got the accolades he deserved ,Johnny was a great player his main goal was to beat O Gara,s highest score in rugby in the world ,and Johnny did achieve that in a lot of years more than O Gara ,
I will check out Ronan O Gara. It happens like that in sports sometimes when player fail to get the recognition they deserved due to circumstances beyond their control
Ruby really is a game played by men with odd shaped balls
100%
Holy crap pretty AGAIN A GRANNY PASS OH MY! yes I am pretty impressed with your beautiful presentation.
Thank you so much Patrick
I’m gonna share an unpopular opinion, don’t lose your mind if you disagree:
I think Sexton is one of the most overrated players there is.
Obviously he was good but he’s often hailed as one of the greats and I simply don’t think there’s much special about him. I’m English and feel the exact same way about Owen Farrell. Both exceptional kickers but quite boring, not much flair, not much of a running threat. They’re both big men who had solid defence and a brilliant boot. I’ll admit they were both highly effective but I don’t think either are greats/legends.
I love hearing your opinion. That's what it's all about.
We all can share our thoughts and insights in a respectful way. That's how we learn and grow
I love hearing your perspective on this as well because it teaches me a lot hearing different perspectives. I appreciate you!
Pretty, not a word one would associate with rugby. Spoiled the commentary.
🤣
