I’m glad the second video showed his offloads! That’s what he’s best known for. He’s one of the greatest athletes ever for sure, he would excel in almost any sport. He also played Sevens for NZ, but got injured so he didn’t make the Olympics.
Sonny Bill was experiencing a fantastic phase in All Blacks rugby, amidst great centers like Ma'a Nonu, Conrad Smith, and Richard Kahui. Although he often started from the bench, whenever given the chance, he delivered his best, as evident in his performance today. His act of generosity, giving away his World Cup gold medal to a kid who ran onto the field, speaks volumes about his character. You can witness this heartwarming moment in the video's final part. Perhaps you can react to his video on that.
The last clip at the end was after the final of the 2015 World Cup. The boy ran onto the field to hug Sonny Bill and was removed by the stewards. Sonny Bill after receiving his gold medal found the boy in the crowd and gave him his medal.
I watched the first half and thought 'these guys are not doing SBW justice here'. Then the 2nd video showed what hes really about - the best offloader in the game. Theres no team in the world that can defend against someone who can break the gain line every time, take 2 or 3 defenders out of the game and make impossible offloads to support runners. Best ive ever seen at doing it. Also a lot of his tries were walk ins but its understated how difficult it is to run those lines and take the ball flat at pace! Wish he was Welsh!!
You said it perfectly Lewis! I really loved seeing his offloads! I'm going to be sure to check out more of his highlights just to see the magic he created on the field.
Sonny - played in Rugby League World Cup final Won two Rugby World Cup titles Played 7s at the Olympics But was back up for the legend Ma'a Nonu, the most successful team in Sport - All Blacks -2010 - 2015 , 90% win rate
Those moves like at 13:20 where they switch the angle back (as the defense is drifting away from the camera) against the grain are always picture perfect. Classic way to beat the drift defence
Great reaction bro!! Hes a hit king in Rugby League when Shoulder hits were legal. He's put people to sleep mid match 😂 youll like it!! Solid vid bro🙌🏽
SquidgeRugby's video on the world cup final just got re-uploaded. He makes the most in-depth analysis videos on UA-cam and I'd really recommend you check it out. It's 45 minutes and Squidge can be a bit hard to understand if you aren't too familiar with his accent, but the video has some great strategic and tactical insights that I think you will appreciate and it also gives you an insight into the captain Siya Kolisi in a way that a highlights video never would.
SBW was one of the best centers of his time, very good defensively, had an excellent and devastating off-load and he also had a good eye for a gap. His big problem however was that he had a weak pass and was first exploited by the Cheetahs when instead of marking SBW they marked the runner on his shoulder i.e instead of trying to prevent SBW from offloading they simply marked the receiver of said off-load thus forcing SBW to start giving normal passes and he then started making mistakes like passing behind the receiver or over the receiver's head. Once other teams picked up on this he wasn't as effective anymore and soon after dropped out of favour in the AB squad SBW would be selected for the NZs 7's team for the Commonwealth games but because there are less players on the field your normal passes are more essential and that means far less opportunities for SBW's trademark off-loads and thus you got the same result.
I've been hearing so much about his off-loads. I'm going to have to check out more videos on him for sure. I appreciate your incredible breakdown on him as well So helpful hearing the backstory and history of him. It teaches me a lot! I appreciate you 🙌🏽
That's what I've been hearing! I'll have to check out more of his content for sure. I barely saw the tip of the iceberg from what I've been seeing from feedback. I appreciate you Simon
In one of the last clips, SBW is in the crowd with a child. the story behind that was the kid invaded the pitch after NZ won the world cup in 2015. kid got smoked by security and SBW proceeded to go to the kid and give him the gold medal he had just received.
if you want to know how tough and brutal rugby used to be, there's a youtube clip of former all black captain buck shelford called tough bastards, i highly recommend watching it.
It super rugby. The greatest rugby period. React to the greatest 12 in my opinion, the guy next to sonny Bill. Ma'a Nonu and Sonny actively boxes while paying rugby. He was a Heavyweight champion. This is one of the few guys who love to throw hands with Eben Etzebeth, those two got in to some serious confrontations on the field. Because let's face Sonny will KNOCK Ebens block off
Only Kiwis think Super Rugby is the best! The standard of defence is poor in comparison to Europe and SA. The loose play style is fun to watch to be fair, but French club rugby is the highest standard right now imo.
Interesting fact a connection to the great MIKE TYSON. Tyson fought against the south African THE WHITE BUFFALO Francois BOTHA and BOTHA gave Tyson a good fight had Tyson worried a bit until Tyson got him in the fifth round well SBW also fought against Francois BOTHA and sonny beat BOTHA on a contentious decision in a twelve rounder.
I would like to point out that if you want to see a team on top of their game watch the England lady's team in the 2024 six nations and watch true domination

That's not just interacting with a fan. That is Sonny Bill giving that random fan the medal he had just been awarded for winning the World Cup.
Thanks for giving me context on what happened there Rit! I appreciate you! It's cool that he did that and shows how great of a guy SBW is. Super cool

That's awesome that he did that! Shows how great a man SBW is. Thanks for letting me know the context behind that clip Geoff
As an England rugby supporter for decades, I can tell you right now: Sonny Bill was truly feared! What a legend.
I can see why! England has some legends I need to watch more footage on too. I appreciate you Ingens 🙌🏽
