Vancouver used to be a beautiful city, now it’s only pretty in parts. It sad that the once gorgeous parks where children were safe to play in are nothing more than junkies playgrounds. Very sad. How fitting to hear the song playing on the street being “dying in yr arms tonight.”
Top notch, just excellent on the ground in the filth reporting here, cant beat it! Your attention to catching the small details of the street life is outstanding. We are pulling into the summer now, Hot weather, should see a fast spike in the number of Tranqkles and bandages, and fresh stumps over all, cant wait! Cheers!
This is sad especially when you consider that they have family members that love them dearly and more importantly God who loved them and never intended for them to live like that. It even looks like some of them are selling all their possessions like clothing just to afford their next fix.
Some DTES residents make money by "boosting" ( = shoplifting ) and selling stolen goods on the sidewalk. They're selling posessions, but not posessions they own. Others make petty cash by collecting recyclables, like drink cans or bottles, and taking them to recycling depots. If you look at street corners or bus stops in nicer parts of the city, you'll see many public garbage cans have special shelves. These are for people to leave their recyclables for bums to collect without having to root through the bins and throw garbage on the sidewalk. Bums with stolen shopping carts loaded with recyclables are common sights in Vancouver. It's sad but true.

Like some others have mentioned, you chose to hit all the 'hot' spots of downtown Vancouver. There still are many beautiful spots in town if you don't decide to show mostly 'skid row' areas. Every city has it's homeless, drug infested areas. Maybe next time, include some other parts of our city. Funny how we didn't see a high-rise, retail store, restaurant, sea wall etc.
Please. Don’t insult the third world by comparing them to this place. Many of them are way better beyond your imagination. I moved to one and never looked back.
sad vibe, there is no hope for Canadians, no jobs, no income unless medicated or on drugs, no help from government to create real jobs but promoting businesses in Drugs and Alcohol to destroy lives.
@@80sandretrogubbins25 Can you imagine what $3.02B would do for Canadians suffering from addiction. BC=NDP, Canada=Liberal, need I say more. Have a great day, thank you for the comment.
Hey now, I am from Vancouver (also born here). This city has always had drug issues due to its location on the Pacific Rim (drugs coming from Asia). In addition to this, Vancouver has relatively mild winters compared to the rest of Canada, so people who may have addition issues and are on the streets, will migrate to Vancouver for the winter so they don't have to worry about freezing to death in the winter (like they might in pretty much the rest of Canada. To top it off, Vancouver has always been a very progressive city when it comes to harm reduction and having resources for people who need it. BUT having said all this, I believe that shooting a video of 4 square blocks in Vancouver over and over again, should not be considered the "Real Vancouver " - this is only a small part of the city. Also, most importantly, if you shot this videos for views.. Ew!! Some of these people are really hurting and going through a hard time and they have not agreed to be shot for your video but your video portrays them like it's a zoo or something to be viewed like a car crash. Please consider that all these people are someone's brother, sister, etc who might be very ill and addicted to drugs and do not want their lives on display for entertainment. Can you imagine feeling the sickest you have ever felt and having someone filming it and posting it to UA-cam? Not to mention the people's friends and family who might see this and how they would feel. People are people and everyone deserves dignity and respect ❤
The Downtown East Side is the worst neighbourhood in Canada, but it is small --- only a few blocks wide. The DTES has poorly defined boundaries, but according to one study the DTES extends for about 6 blocks between Hastings Street, Cordova Steet, Cambie Street and Jackson Avenue. You can see how small the neighbourhood is by looking at Google Maps (and, yes, you can see the streetpeople on the sidewalk in Google Street View).
If the drug war was a good idea then how come we have more dangerous drugs on the street than ever. We lose on average of 8 people a day in BC to opioid overdoses. These overdoses are NOT from safe supply. I see a lot of ignorant comments on these posts who assume they know addiction and know more than addiction Drs, usual ignorant “ just say no “ brigade.
