I believe the SUPER in super Mario party is how Nintendo is branding the Mario party series going forward as they don’t want to continue with numbers and the spin of Mario parties like top 100 or superstars will still only be Mario party without SUPER
They were only blue in 1 (5 doesn't really count), they're green in every other game, and they probably made them blue in Superstars to reference 1 specifically, while here it's just being more consistent with 2-6 And Battle Spaces are probably keeping Superstars' gimmick where once the minigame is over, it turns into a blue space, so there the blue color is justified
2:24 My guess is that the Chance Time spaces will be able to be used more than once, as in Superstars, IIRC they faded away after being used, and remained as a blue space. With it being green, it will be able to stay a chance time space the entire game no matter how many times it’s landed on
In Superstars, it was VS spaces (ones that triggered Battle minigames) that turned into ordinary blue spaces once the events occurred. Chance Time could happen multiple times on the same space in one game; it just didn't happen often because there were very few Chance Time spaces on any given board. Chance Time was blue in Mario Party 1, which I imagine had a fair bit to do with why they were blue in Superstars. Superstars seemed to lean pretty hard on the Mario Party 1 nostalgia (the main menu definitely leaned on Mario Party 1's ideas, and even remixed their theme for the main menu, shop, and options house). Since then, however, Chance Time has historically been put on green spaces, and I guess they needed more types of green spaces than just the Event/Happening space this time around.
i adore listening to people talk about their gaming spinoff series special interests. listening to the depth of this commentary made me realize that ALL of my mainline Mario Party knowledge comes from watching alpha. I've only ever played DS for myself. how cool :)
Watching this while also keeping past videos in mind makes me realize that Alpharad is what MatPat would be if he played Mario party, with analytical observations of each frame of the trailer. This fact makes me happier than I was 20 minutes ago
Something that could be really fun for the Mario Kart board would be if the star stays at the finish line and every time you complete a "lap" the star's cost coresponds to how fast you were.
Goomba Lagoon reminds me of Blooper Beach from Mario Party 9. It is because of the broken pirate ships. In Blooper Beach you had a split path with on one side a broken pirate ships where those little hermit crabs used cannons to shoot mini stars or something
My biggest questions: 1. Boards seem to have Bowser as the antagonist, but he also seems to be playable in minigames? 2. Will this also be only playable via a single joy-con?
@@Jackie_burnp Nah man, as someone who first Mario Party was 8 and DS, I am alwasy down when Nintendo decides to shakes things with how the minigames are controlled.
@@amarillodragon2702 I agree cuz I grew up with 8 as well, but I think FORCING it is always bad Having an option to just play the game with pro-controllers even if it sidelines some minigames is better than being forced to play with a certain control scheme The motion control games aren't going anywhere, it's just that now you have other options
They won’t do it, because it would be a lot of extra work, but I think it would be really cool to have “character dice blocks” as a toggle in the setup for each individual game. Being able to use them for certain chaotic games while not being forced to have the mechanic would be awesome
Looking more closely at it, the lucky space is supposed to be clover coloured, but they made it like, more Yellow than it is Chartreuse, and Chartreuse is pretty high contrast with Yellow so the odd colour choice stands out hard. I kinda like it though, it's weird and I like weird :D
Sometimes I forget that Jacob used to be as close to a professional mario party player as you can be until I'm watching a 20 minute video of them breaking down every board from every map from every game in existence
Roll em raceaway does also gives inspiration from the Mario party island tour maps such as the rocket ship where you can use rocket tanks (forgive me if I’m wrong I’m quite rusty with that game) to boost your roll or kamek’s level where it’s whole movement system is based on cards Either way it might be a get to a location type map like in island tour or maybe it might end once someone makes it to the end
There's an easy Hootenanny fix. Before, after the player bought one it would bring every player to the space before the Hootenanny. If the new board just brought them to the space after it, then it wouldn't have the infinite loop problem and it'd be a long time until players got all the way around back there.
I believe the way koopathlon will work is you get coins for doing small minigames and the coins might be for one of two things. Thing number one is that every coin you collect moves you one space, or every coin you collect fills that dice meter in the top right that rolls how far you move.
I think roll em raceway is going to be similar to goombas booty boardwalk in that you get a free star when you reach the end, meaning you se coins mainly for items and shortcuts
I think the strangest thing about this game is the fact that they kept the "Super" prefix. Like Mario Party Jamboree would sound fine and it doesn't appear that much is being taken from Super on a mechanical level.
i think items are the same way as in superstars since in a piece of artwork nintendo released after the direct, we see peach holding an item bag with a golden pipe and what looks to be a seashell coming out of it, as well as another item that i do not remember.
10:17 That definitely is one, the emblem on top is the skeleton key from Superstars. 11:53 I imagine this is similar to Coinathalon from Star Rush where you play coin minigames and advance a space for every coin you get, with you trying to complete laps around the course.
13:22 i believe this is a new minigame for the rhythm mode returning from super mario party? there was another spot in the trailer that showed another section from the rhythm mode, so i'm excited for that to return!
Something I’m curious about is Bowser’s presence in this game. He’s playable, but also shows up as a big aspect of a board, shows up in a few mini games, has his own space at least on Rainbow Castle. Maybe he’s restricted form certain modes and boards?
@@christiancasaverdepertica1802maybe that giant Bowser is an illusion made by Kamek, because he's oozing magic with that aura, and its a bit curious that giant Bowser's the one giving Ztars at Mario's Rainbow Castle, when it makes very little sense for him to be giant there, he didn't need to be huge all the time to do evil deeds in previous games
So something I think would be a good compromise for the character specific dice is actually an idea from the demon slayer mario party game. Each character has their own dice however they can only use it once every 3 turns and then can use it or hold onto it. After it's used up it's another 3 turns until it's available again. This makes it to where character dice are still considered but you're still limited by the default dice.
To me it looks like Mega Wiggler's Tree Party might be similar to Goomba's Greedy Gala or E. Gadd's Garage, one of those maps where the section of the board you go to is based on timing or chance. And I suppose this is just conjecture since we don't get a good look at it, but King Bowser's Keep reminds me of King Bob-omb's Powderkeg Mine, I feel like a similar event might take place around bowser. It also seems to branch out into several end-points that all lead back to the pipe at the beginning. Maybe it'll be like Neon Heights from 7 where you have to commit to a mystery box down one of the paths and see what you get.
The giant Wiggler on the board may be a shortcut that changes path each time someone rings the bells at the happening spaces, dragging anyone on top of it as it moves around its burrow, so it can either let you cut through the map, or will make you skip stuff if you're unlucky the Wiggler changed stop xd And maybe there could also be a Chilly Waters-style gimmick where if multiple people land on top of the Wiggler, it can potentially get mad and force everyone to drop off
I think the shot at 11:37 has all of the characters in the game, I counted 20 there. That would make sense for the reason why they limited the online mode to 20 players.
If you wanna know what Koopalaton is gonna be like, play the coin race mode in Mario party star rush. It’s almost the exact same thing (and very very very fun)
I can't wait to get this game... I remember enjoying Super Mario Party back when it was new. Over five years later, I still have it as the Switch game that I enjoy the most. Even with my biases, though, SMP certainly has some unfortunate exploits. I play damn near all of my rounds against CPUs, so there's less of a need to grind Golden Pipes, but I've seen that happen in different Mario Party playthroughs. Furthermore, the boards are too small. It'd be one thing if there were upwards of seven or eight of 'em; four is simply not enough. To be fair, Partner Party is radically different in gameplay. I like the ally feature, if only to see characters chat for a moment upon recruiting them and having extra dice options. All things considered, I am hard-pressed to hate on Super Mario Party. Sorry, Alpharad. But I can use this dumb bias of mine to be even more excited about Jamboree!
In Mario Party Star Rush (I think), there's a coin rush minigame called coinathalon where if you collect a coin, you move one space and whoever finishes a full lap wins. I think that could be the minigame at 11:37 since I feel like that's the only way to incorporate 20 players. Would be fun to have 20 player minigames if all 20 players are together instead of all playing their own single minigame; hopefully gets incorporated in this new game.
with that mall map i think that the event spaces have some type of store feature to them with unique stock (you see one with the boo bell on the logo) and i think it'd be fun to have a limited stock mechanic to it
11:50 this is probably going to behave just like the thing it’s based off of in Mario party star rush you star off by playing through a list of mini games each time you make it through the mini games get harder coins you collect in the mini games equal spaces you move items can be collected to annoy other players and a bowser minigame will happen at some point where the worse you place the more spaces you get launched back first to reach the end wins Maybe some things are changed like the way items work but other than that this looks nearly identical besides for the 20 players instead of 4
I am excited for this, but nothing beats Mario Party 8 on the Wii. The hotel board where you can invest in stars, the big roster (for the time with the introduction of Blooper being playable) with unlockable characters was fantastic, and the mini games were replayable and overall great.
Koopathlon is not a new more in the Mario Party series. It's a improved version of Coinathlon of Star Rush. You pretty much play coin collecting minigames, and each coin iqual a moving one spaces in the Race. There are also items to slow opponents down, like stunning their minigames or inking their screens to lower visibility. It is a very fun mode.
The Browser minigame on 12:10 is also part of the Race. From time to time, Browser would attack the racers with a survival minigame, and if you loses it you go back X spaces in the racing board.
It's not gonna be Bowser swapping with Toad. Just like in Super Mario Party, Bowser is a playable character so they'll probably make Kamek replace Toad
you can see bowser behind toad in the shot. though he is surrounded by kamek’s magic symbols so he could be an illusion created by kamek? either that or bowser is just only playable in side modes which sounds odd
I think the 20 person game mode is everyone rolls at the same time then do a mini game so on until the end, or maybe people at the bottom of leaderboard get eliminated which is what I hope
I just noticed that there’s a boo bell store on rainbow galleria either that’ll be the boo space or a boo bell shop where all the items are like their own store that would be cool
I had just finished doing a 50 turn game of the mp7 Bowser board, and it's kinda funny thinking it wasn't horrible compared to the other ones, especially when remembering how cruel Bowser usual is in 7, so that board is slightly better since he doesn't have any of his spaces, and how quick you can loop around the map with movement, it's unique enough to say it's not horrible
I also think it's interesting that they finally brought spike and birdo to super mario party jamboree. (Since they weren't in the other super mario party)
Superstars having 5 of the same map specfic items for all 4 players regardless of placement ruined the game's item meta. Half the items from the n64 era were cut from the game or not purchasable in normal shops. They didnt even bother adding boo repellant to the game
The best Mario Party game I own and still play is the DS one, that one was the peak of Mario Party and not only because of the history but the game mechanics.
2:18 green means you can be on the blue or red team (blue is good Spaces and red is bad Spaces) green Spaces can be good or bad so that is Why chance time is green. You can lose or win stuff
The Koopathlon seems heaviily based on the Coinathlon mode from Mario Party Star Rush. The gist of the mode was that 4 players would have to play coin collecting microgames and every coin you get would be an extra step you take in a lap race. You´d also occasionally get items like a bag of coins or a fireball to stun other players. It was really fun and I´m excited to see how it´ll play with 20 players!
The bowser boss fight thing is probably for the coinathon/koopathon since in the oh ver for the 3ds there’s sometimes in between moments with bowser themed minigames/bossfights to make the players either work together or fight and try to screw over each other since that’s the only way to go back
honestly I think this could be an insane return to form for the mario party series. I'm not a big fan of the single joycon limitation just because its uncomfortable in my hands for some minigames (and my joycon collection is mostly all of the ones that started drifting...) but I think having a good selection of boards while ALSO bringing back classics is a brilliant decision for mario party going forwards, I just wish they cared about anything except the n64 games lol.
Exerpt from the offical website: "Motion-controlled minigames require a Joy-Con controller and are not available when playing online. Motion-controlled minigames are not compatible with Nintendo Switch Lite or Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, but button-controlled minigames can still be played when using these consoles/ accessories."
I loved character exclusive dies. I hope they add it as just an option, and also give an another option to choose the dice in the beginning of the game if you don't want to be restricted because your favorite character's dice is terrible.
I dont think Bowser Spaces are returning since the space you have on the 1:31 timeframe when you talked about the space below it is most likely the Unlucky Space than a Bowser Space, and i also do believe we should have much more characters than the direct showed us 2 days ago because both Super Mario Party and Mario Party Superstars's openings dont show ALL the playable characters both start and unlockable alike since in Super Mario Party they didnt show ALL the unlockable characters, so i think Super Mario party Jamboree will reveal more in the next direct on September since we dont know all the other modes that the announcer mentioned.
Koopathalon is a race between 20 players where they play minigames to earn coins, each coin granting 1 space of movement. Get the most coins as fast as you can to cross the finish line first.
Bowser is participating in the 2v2 arm wrestle and hammering nails game right before that, which means at the very least there's more than 20 characters so there might be even more they didn't show or are unlockable!
@@Wyatt_Brown I was just saying that it showed every other character *except* Ninji in the earlier timestamp. I'm not exactly sure why, but maybe he's an unlockable character.
@@Wyatt_Brown The shot at 11:15 is every character in the intro screen at 0:31, and shown in the rest of the gameplay minus bowser (and color variants). The premise that it was those characters + Ninji as playable would make a lot of sense if it was 19 in the intro. An even 20 characters for the 20 person game mode they're pushing. It could definitely be that Ninji is character 21 that you have to unlock maybe by winning on all the boards or beating all the mini games and that's it, there's just 21, but because there's 21 there's really no reason to believe there couldn't be more that just weren't in the trailer, are unlockable, or haven't been added yet. Once you cross that 20 bench mark it could be any number of additional characters we have nothing to go off of at that point. lmnpie could be spitting, it could just be those 21, but doesn't really confirm anything yet
I hope there's a lot of non-motion control games or it's made so they can be played with a pro controller. That's why I like Superstars so much, because I don't have any non-drifting joycons and a lot of my friends with switches are in similar situations. I only use my pro controller or HORI "joycons" (that don't actually work when not attached to the switch) for handheld mode.
I have high hopes for Western Land just because the turns go a lot faster in Superstars and I expect the same here. That was my major issue with Western Land, the turns were slow.

I believe the SUPER in super Mario party is how Nintendo is branding the Mario party series going forward as they don’t want to continue with numbers and the spin of Mario parties like top 100 or superstars will still only be Mario party without SUPER
I feel like green for chance time makes more sense than blue. It’s not immediately good or bad for you
They were only blue in 1 (5 doesn't really count), they're green in every other game, and they probably made them blue in Superstars to reference 1 specifically, while here it's just being more consistent with 2-6
And Battle Spaces are probably keeping Superstars' gimmick where once the minigame is over, it turns into a blue space, so there the blue color is justified
2:24
My guess is that the Chance Time spaces will be able to be used more than once, as in Superstars, IIRC they faded away after being used, and remained as a blue space.

Explain? Does Game theory have a monopoly on analytical content in your mind?

Something that could be really fun for the Mario Kart board would be if the star stays at the finish line and every time you complete a "lap" the star's cost coresponds to how fast you were.
Goomba Lagoon reminds me of Blooper Beach from Mario Party 9. It is because of the broken pirate ships. In Blooper Beach you had a split path with on one side a broken pirate ships where those little hermit crabs used cannons to shoot mini stars or something
My biggest questions:
1. Boards seem to have Bowser as the antagonist, but he also seems to be playable in minigames?
2. Will this also be only playable via a single joy-con?
All of the npc bowsers have a purple glow effect on them, maybe they're clones created by kamek or something
Seems you can use a single JoyCon or a standard controller, but if you use a standard controller it disables motion control minigames
@@BrVendan Kinda based ngl
@@Jackie_burnp Nah man, as someone who first Mario Party was 8 and DS, I am alwasy down when Nintendo decides to shakes things with how the minigames are controlled.
@@amarillodragon2702 I agree cuz I grew up with 8 as well, but I think FORCING it is always bad
Having an option to just play the game with pro-controllers even if it sidelines some minigames is better than being forced to play with a certain control scheme
The motion control games aren't going anywhere, it's just that now you have other options
Roll em raceaway does also gives inspiration from the Mario party island tour maps such as the rocket ship where you can use rocket tanks (forgive me if I’m wrong I’m quite rusty with that game) to boost your roll or kamek’s level where it’s whole movement system is based on cards
Either way it might be a get to a location type map like in island tour or maybe it might end once someone makes it to the end
There's an easy Hootenanny fix. Before, after the player bought one it would bring every player to the space before the Hootenanny. If the new board just brought them to the space after it, then it wouldn't have the infinite loop problem and it'd be a long time until players got all the way around back there.
Would pay for a MP debate between alpharad, king of skill and Nathaniel bandy TBH…
MARIO PARTY 4 LOTTERY IS IN THE MALL BOARD AND HEXES ARE BACK WE FUCKING WON
I love special interests
I think the strangest thing about this game is the fact that they kept the "Super" prefix.
Like Mario Party Jamboree would sound fine and it doesn't appear that much is being taken from Super on a mechanical level.
Super Mario party jamboree could of been the one after if it was called Mario party jamboree
i think items are the same way as in superstars since in a piece of artwork nintendo released after the direct, we see peach holding an item bag with a golden pipe and what looks to be a seashell coming out of it, as well as another item that i do not remember.
With the seashell was a boo bell and a skeleton key
@@SlinkSup99okay so maybe i was straight up wrong but my point stands regardless
10:17 That definitely is one, the emblem on top is the skeleton key from Superstars.
11:53 I imagine this is similar to Coinathalon from Star Rush where you play coin minigames and advance a space for every coin you get, with you trying to complete laps around the course.
Roll Em Raceway looks fairly large though so I'm pretty excited for it
13:22 i believe this is a new minigame for the rhythm mode returning from super mario party? there was another spot in the trailer that showed another section from the rhythm mode, so i'm excited for that to return!
I feel like the hootenany will put everyone after the activation point, fixing the issue.
Something I’m curious about is Bowser’s presence in this game. He’s playable, but also shows up as a big aspect of a board, shows up in a few mini games, has his own space at least on Rainbow Castle. Maybe he’s restricted form certain modes and boards?
Could also have Kamek run the bowser spaces when Bowser is playing, like in Super
3:15 - In MP1, you get a Fake Star that's worth zero, but it still costs coins to get.
8:25 Only Bowser Boards I actually enjoyed were Bowser Land from Mario Party 2 and Bowsers Pinball Machine from Mario Party DS
The giant Wiggler on the board may be a shortcut that changes path each time someone rings the bells at the happening spaces, dragging anyone on top of it as it moves around its burrow, so it can either let you cut through the map, or will make you skip stuff if you're unlucky the Wiggler changed stop xd
And maybe there could also be a Chilly Waters-style gimmick where if multiple people land on top of the Wiggler, it can potentially get mad and force everyone to drop off
Like if you are literally Mario
10:15 there’s an obvious arrow path and that is a gate with spaces behind it. It’s a skeleton key gate
IT HS A KEY ICON ON IT TOO I THINK LMAO
And it seems that stickers is making a return, That’s a hit
I saw many people are saying that Ninji is one of the unlockable characters along with possibly Diddy Kong, Pauline, and Dry Bones.
with that mall map i think that the event spaces have some type of store feature to them with unique stock (you see one with the boo bell on the logo) and i think it'd be fun to have a limited stock mechanic to it
I’m on crack
11:50 this is probably going to behave just like the thing it’s based off of in Mario party star rush you star off by playing through a list of mini games each time you make it through the mini games get harder coins you collect in the mini games equal spaces you move items can be collected to annoy other players and a bowser minigame will happen at some point where the worse you place the more spaces you get launched back first to reach the end wins
Maybe some things are changed like the way items work but other than that this looks nearly identical besides for the 20 players instead of 4
Btw skeleton keys are in the game, they're in art of the game on the offical account
9:50 a good fix would be to put everyone after the hootenanny when it's done.
I am excited for this, but nothing beats Mario Party 8 on the Wii. The hotel board where you can invest in stars, the big roster (for the time with the introduction of Blooper being playable) with unlockable characters was fantastic, and the mini games were replayable and overall great.
Yoshi riding minigames means we get more Yoshi riding another Yoshi, most likely
If you wanna understand the Koopathlon mode a bit better, check out Mario Party: Star Rush, since this is heavily based on that game's Coinathon mode!
It's not gonna be Bowser swapping with Toad. Just like in Super Mario Party, Bowser is a playable character so they'll probably make Kamek replace Toad
And the "unlucky" spaces are just Bowser spaces, but again, no Bowser antagonist
you can see bowser behind toad in the shot. though he is surrounded by kamek’s magic symbols so he could be an illusion created by kamek? either that or bowser is just only playable in side modes which sounds odd
@@dattromboneguyThere's Bowser spaces alongside unlucky spaces
@c4mbam23 that sounds reasonable. Kamek do be making illusions, I think
@@Aktedya1-jt7vw in the trailer, or in Super Mario Party?

I think the 20 person game mode is everyone rolls at the same time then do a mini game so on until the end, or maybe people at the bottom of leaderboard get eliminated which is what I hope
shoutout to the one offline chatter who appeared since he still had his twitch chat on obs
If they don't bring back the costumes for western land I don't want it
I just noticed that there’s a boo bell store on rainbow galleria either that’ll be the boo space or a boo bell shop where all the items are like their own store that would be cool
I just hope we get a return of Hexes/Orbs to make board play more interesting
I think Hexes are back. A screenshot I saw showed what looked like one.
will the mall map utilize the coconut mall theme at all though, that's the real question
Ah yes, sophisticated Mario Party discussion for gentlemen.
on the box art for the game you can see peach holding an item bag with a boo bell, skeleton key, and the magic conch from spongebob coming out of it
Calling Mario's Rainbow Castle and Western Land 'bad choices' was a...statement.
Honestly this video is getting me excited for the new Mario party, like I don’t really care for Mario party anymore, but this seems interesting.
8:25 bowser's pinball machine in ds was good
The only thing I didn’t like about Superstars is they made Peach’s Birthday Cake worse by placing Goomba after the Star instead of before it.
The best Mario Party game I own and still play is the DS one, that one was the peak of Mario Party and not only because of the history but the game mechanics.
The one with Peach and winged M&L might be similar to Wii Sports Resort’s Island Flyover
Not gonna lie, I'm.down to see Alpha doing more analysis and breakdown content.
Am i the only one who saw the rainbow Galleria in the direct and immediately went: 'COCONUT MALL?!'
Both Bowser and Unlucky Spaces are back, and the giant Bowser's being the big bad on boards and a boss
I hope that they bring back the unique dice, as long as it’s balanced. It was cool
Koopathalon is a race between 20 players where they play minigames to earn coins, each coin granting 1 space of movement. Get the most coins as fast as you can to cross the finish line first.
11:55
This confirms that Ninji is the only character not shown at 0:31
Bowser is participating in the 2v2 arm wrestle and hammering nails game right before that, which means at the very least there's more than 20 characters so there might be even more they didn't show or are unlockable!
I'm confused, how does Bowser being a player in that minigame mean anything regarding the rest of the playable characters?
@@Wyatt_Brown I was just saying that it showed every other character *except* Ninji in the earlier timestamp. I'm not exactly sure why, but maybe he's an unlockable character.
@@lmnpie2
right, that's what 0:31 shows, but what was 11:15 showing?
Supprised no one i’ve seen has connected the dots for the coinathon from star rush. It was a good mode.
I have high hopes for Western Land just because the turns go a lot faster in Superstars and I expect the same here. That was my major issue with Western Land, the turns were slow.
If the multi dice can reach 40 that’s a good reason to think the dice blocks are 1-10, there is art work with a lot of items too
