Hey everyone! Hope you're doing well! Wanted to make a series where I "review" certain games that I care about, and the Mario Party games are gonna be the big ones! Leave a comment on anything you didn't like/could be improved (bad explanations on things, editing wasn't good, certain parts were too short or too long, etc.), and if I mentioned something incorrectly, let me know so I can make the corrections here! Thanks for watching!... ... I forgot the Hidden Block Card for items... well that item just gives you a Hidden Block at the moment, either coins or a star. Fun fact: it's NOT predetermined, meaning if you use the item and get 5 coins, then reset your game and use it again, you could get a star lol
I am all for a review of every Mario Party game but did not expect you to do one game per video. Oh well more content for us, Also all your references from different forms of media tells me you had one of the happiest childhoods
I'm curious about something. In other mario parties, if you roll all 7s with a double or triple dice block, you get an additional coin bonus. Does superstars has that too or they removed it?
Your voice is absolutely perfect for reviewing. I can't wait to see later videos in this style! (Of course I'll watch your other videos because your content is great either way)
Kinda crazy how everyone nowadays is complaining about dlc when a complete game comes out. I mean I wanted dlc for this game too. Had so much potential. It's just kinda funny to me
@@thezard7013 I think the more frustrating part is that this is the game that would have most benefited from DLC, and actually deserved DLC due to how successful and well received it was, yet it got nothing. Most other games like Mario Strikers Battle League get DLC, but Superstars gets ignored.
While I also wish the game had dlc or the very least, two or three more boards, I understand why it didn't. At the end of the day, dlc is more resources and that could be put in a new game. Mario Party is not Smash, Splatoon and Mario Kart. With the sports games, they tried the Splatoon route and that simply didn't work because the audience is different, same goes for Superstars. If they end up doing a sequel, I think they just need to put more content. More mini games, more boards, more modes.
@@egbertmilton4003 Party Crashers Patch Notes Custom Dice: Cannot be used to land on Chance Time Developer Notes: We saw that Vernias had spent a long time learning the timing needed to have complete control over Chance Time instead of the standard of having control of the first two chosen blocks. Despite the third being arguably the least important choice, we have decided to greatly lower the chances of landing on this space by severely nerfing the Custom Dice block and where you're allowed to go with it, to indirectly nerf Vernias. We could've done something that would've affected everyone equally, like making it that you cannot spam at the start to make it guaranteed that a star is stolen, but no, let us make the guy who learned how to channel their inner metronome suffer and make them lose that connection. Oh, he isn't even the one who gets first the most often? Doesn't matter. In fact, since you complained, we're gonna buff Brent in the next balance patch! Maybe then you'll learn to shut your mouth and not complain or criticize the higher ups. Idk why I wrote all of that, I only just heard of this rule
One would think they learned from mario party 7 where the blue mushroom was the most overpowered item in the game (Essentially a custom dice block but you still need to do a bit of timing with it). Then they nerfed it in 8 so you can only move 1 to 5 spaces (still very good) but you still have to time it. Superstars really said: "Just pick whatever number you want from 1 to 10 without requiring any skill at all for 12 coins"
It would be fine as a lucky item, but it being so common and cheap to buy is a major problem. They should have instead had the 1-5 as its replacement, with the 1-10 being available to 4th.
This is why I can't play on Yoshi's tropical island. The optimal way to play that board is just to stock up on custom dice blocks so Toad is never on the right side of the board.
It's better to remove the skill aspect, it's a party game, you're supposed to play with people who don't necessarily play games often, even very young childrens can play AND even have a decent chance of winning a game against you despite of your decades of video game experience. Damn it, it's in the title of the game : Mario Party. They can't make it more obvious.
@@Kafei01 no it isn’t. Removing the skill aspect is how you end up with 9 and 10. Players should have a degree of agency on the board that’s awarded from good minigame performance.
@@Kafei01This is poison to any game. Candy Land works as an introduction for very, very young children & that is about it. What you are arguing for is Candy Land, or The Game of Life which is generally considered the worst board game that has a mainstream presence. Reducing player control too greatly destroys the player experience. Removing too much luck in Mario Party would also damage the gameplay, I think the balance you want is about 2/3rds of the time the skilled player wins, ya can round off at 1/2 to 3/4. Mario Party is a blend of social manipulation, luck, & gameplay. Now, I do not think turning the slow dice into a custom block has any real impact. It is very easy to choose the spaces it just takes an age to do it in the old method. The problem is it was added to games that were not designed with it in mind. It did not put in the effort to make the game cohesive.
@Bertiboy not loud enough i think you mean YOU PICK WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRIIIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It only has 5 boards. All content is reused. It has little to no replayability. Still, there goes the best damned Mario Party we've had in more than a decade
@@indigo7898 Because a lot of Mario Party clones are either mediocre or awful. That and attention since it's Mario and Mario Party as a game for friends. It will turn a lot more heads than anything significantly less known than Mario.
@@PerfectAzrael Primarily the first aspect. It's good to be original, but you have to be original in the right way. Replacing the dice roll with a weird mechanic that the CPUs exploit the shit out of, or reducing or even removing multiplayer minigames, in a Mario Party clone, is the wrong way to be original. At least there's no mainline Mario Party game (not sure about spinoffs like Star Rush or Top 100) that fails in those regards.
@@indigo7898Superstars is popular because it's a mostly balanced game (MOSTLY), compared to a lot of mainline. If Nintendo struggles this much to get it right on the poster child imagine how all the other party games are doing right now.
The worst of all is that Nintendo completely forgot about Superstars because it has more potential and, above all, more scenarios... you can say that this game was created to calm nostalgic people.
The Wii/Wii U/3DS era was baaaad. Like, I get it. They wanted to try something different, but my problem was how much they insisted on hated gimmicks. I understood what they were trying to do in 9. New developer, wanted to try something new. But 10, Island Tour, Star Rush and Top 100 were just being stubborn and ignoring the negative feedback.
Yeah, Super was baby steps (on paper what people wanted but still had work that needed to be done, especially with how slow the games felt), Superstars is where it's at
They probably went basic due to that since Mario party hasn’t been well received for a while. So they probably played it safe just to test waters. Hopefully people intrest in the game will encourage them to make more
@@Yoshixandir They should have always stay with the basics. Like someone above said them refusing to listen to negative feedback is what brought MP where is at. They only have themselves to blame for that.
It's honestly pretty sad this game was abandoned and really only made for nostalgia. No Bowser Board or Secret bonus board? That's just crazy honestly it really deserved DLC
@@gamerboyfrecleface6157 Hey, Mario Kart 8 got the Booster Course Pass recently, doubling Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's total tracks. Keep in mind, the amount of tracks the Booster Course Pass gave us equal the amount of tracks Mario Kart 8 had WITH its original DLC.
It’s so sad Nintendo hasn’t included any DLC after its successful launch. More maps and characters would make this game even better than it already is.
Ya Was hoping to play some of the other boards from 4-7 since I never played those. Even ones from 8 and DS I’d love to see just to be a geek and see the updated graphics.
6:48 2 are chosen randomly if you play 25 turns or less, it's 3 if you play 30 turns Also, you can set the bonus stars to classic, basically to how it was in Mario Parties 1-5, where it's always the Minigame, Rich, and Eventful bonus stars that are up for grabs regardless of how many turns played.
I love hearing Brent give a thorough take of Mario Party games, like we only ever get to see the Party Crashers on UA-cam play the games and make jokes the entire time, but we do get small glimpses of what they really think about the games they play every now and then. It’s very fascinating to then hear someone who’s played the series growing up and has the reputation of performing the best in said games give their honest, personalized take. Would love to see more of these in the future
You see, Space Land was actually GOOD in Mario Party 2 but Superstars changed the mechanic of the Sniffit Patrols. In the original, you could set up the patrols to break the Happening Space cycle and be moved into the diagonal in the path to the middle. This also means the patrols acted as traps to force players into the path of Bowser's Beam. It was a low scoring board but there was strategy!
Identifying luck is definitely similar. Zoom zike has done this for mario parties 1-8, though he was planning on stopping at 7. Definitely want to see brents view though too.
Brent, I did not know the difference between a non-hidden block space and a normal space. And for telling me, I thank you. Now I can destroy my friends skillfully the next time I play Mario Party Superstars. Not toxically though!
The fact that this game never got DLC is a heinous missed opportunity. They could have added extra boards, extra minigames, or even extra characters. But I guess Nintendo and NDCube released the game as is and thought "Eh, good enough."
There's two wolf in a mario party enjoyer: one is zoomzike "identifying luck" the other is king of skills "review" both are the best videos to ever be uploaded on youtube (probably)
I think overall you did a very good job with this analysis video, you explained the mechanics very well and had a good pacing dedicating the time needed for each section properly, while also adding some funny jokes. Superstars feels like a double edge sword to me, on one hand this is the revival that the series badly needed, after 7 (SEVEN!) bad mario parties that changed the formula of the originals for worse, this is the reminder we needed of what mario party actually is...but on the other hand, it's lack of real content makes it feels like an incomplete game and wasn't pushed nor supported to achieve it's true potential. Nowadays I gave up on DLC but I'm hopeful for next entry in the series that it can achieve what superstars could've.
Mario Party Superstars had SO much potential . Sure what we got was pretty good, classic maps to relive our nostalgia, a solid collection of most of the past Mario Party Mini Games and fan favorite characters returning to the roster after their long absence. But *DAMN IT* I wish there were MORE TO ENJOY HERE! I wouldn’t be opposed to Superstars getting DLC in the form of new returning maps from the large history of Mario Party and not just the ones from the N64. What about the ones from the GameCube, the Wii, the 3DS, the Wii U? I would loved to see returning boards from Mario Party 6,7,8 and even a reworked 9 Map as DLC to spice up the variety of places to play and even MORE mini games that missed out the first time like Track and Yield, Sick and Twisted, Gun the Runner, Ghost in the Hall, Take Me Ohm, Bomb Barge and SO MUCH MORE. They can even give us some of the future Mario Party characters as DLC like Goomba, Boo, Hammer Bro, Blooper, even characters like Koopa Kid can be DLC characters. I wish Nintendo didn’t just abandon this game when there was so much untapped potential behind it.
Man, is there any type of video you can't make? You're great at montages, you're great at gameplay videos (solo or with the boys), and apparently you're great at making video essays too. This is incredibly well-edited, I can't wait to see you do more game reviews!
My two biggest issues with this game are 1. The item shops stay the same, forcing the same repetitive boring, snowballing meta super mario party had if not more so 2. The board choices “conveniently” lacking many branching pathways aside from horror land You have yoshis tropical island which are two linear circles You have peachs birthday cake which is a linear board You have space land which almost nothing but straight lines outside of the center You have woody woods that has the signpost gimmick forcing you on a direction, do you SEE the problem? It makes horror land feel incredibly out of place, and combined with the samey item meta it makes almost every game of superstars feel almost identical to the last, I can’t say the same about any other game in the series not even super mario party to an extent (despite having similar meta issues) It just feels like NDcube is still on that mario party 9 copium where they have to force linearity as much as they can get away with so your little brother or grandma can process what’s going on which to some extent I get, but it harms part of the core appeal of mario party: The strategy and unpredictability, kinda hard to strategize when there’s a clear best item for cheap prices on a straight line over and over 😵💫 Not a bad game but I’d be lying if I didn’t say this grew to become one of my least fav classic styled mario party games (outside of the improved minigames from games like MP3) Not gonna go into any other gripes I have either aside from this: For a celebration game, it’s quite the disappointment compared to smash ultimate which came out 3 years ago and even sonic generations which came out a decade prior
Oh yeah I know the issues you have with the game in the Mario partytv discord lol, but yeah I agree. Mario party superstars has lots of potential and they should really stop relying on the nostalgia factor for the series. Really hoping the next game is more like 3 and 6 and also has at least 10 boards all with their own gimmicks.
@@pants1800 Which is fine, regardless of it having like 2 actual pathways even less than space land, I won’t knock anyone for enjoying what they like (even if it’s my least favorite MP3 board now without the godlike items that made it originally fun) this is still one of the better mario spinoff games in recent years and at the very least it’s nice to see classic MP back in the limelight instead of that car crap and whatever the heck the 3DS games were doing 😵💫
My favorite thing that happened when playing Superstars was when a couple of us ended up with 2 Chomp Calls each. At that point, we decided to pick up a third, and then everyone else started grabbing them as well. It was like stockpiling nukes for a "Cold War". And in the last 3 turns, the Cold War went hot, and we moved the star at *every player's turn* for the rest of the game. Everyone has learned to fear the Chomp Call "FWEET" sticker.
For triple dice, if you roll three 7s, you’ll be rewarded with 50 coins. Only reason I know this is because a Yoshi AI rolled a triple dice on turn 18 on Peach’s birthday cake. If I’m not wrong, that is a 1/1000 chance of rolling exactly three 7s, which means it’s extremely rare to occur.
It's worth noting that in Mario Party Superstars, there are two ways that the game will give out 3 Bonus Stars like in previous entries: 1. You play for 30 turns (the cap number in this game). Playing for 30 turns means the game will award 3 of the 9 Bonus Stars instead of 2 of the 9 if you're playing in 20 turns or lower. 2. You set the Bonus Stars to "Classic" before starting. When you do this, no matter how many turns you play (10, 15, 20, 30), the game will ALWAYS hand out 3 specific Bonus Stars, that being Rich, Minigame, and Event stars. (Unlike the classic games, the Rich Bonus Star isn't the same as the Coin Bonus Star. Whereas the Coin Star awards players for the most coins HELD during gameplay, the Rich Star awards players for the most coins COLLECTED (or stolen or spent).) Also, the fact that there's only a mere five boards in this game is really, really dumb. Couldn't have added another Mario Party 3 board to even out the total to six? Oh well. Honestly, I would've at least liked a Bowser board. It's been a while since we had one and, in my opinion, the chaos in a Bowser board makes it fun and scary.
I wanna see more of these!! Really love how detailed the analysis is in each point and also talks about every part of the game, even the lesser known ones!! I'm really looking forward to how you do the next games in this format!!
This is a game that cemented the idea that you cannot rely on a game having DLC to save it. I bought the game b/c I love playing Mario Party with my brothers and I remember there being an announcement that there would be more DLC maps added as time went on. That obviously never happened. I still love this game, but there is a reason why I also bought the N64 expansion pack for Mario Party 1, 2, and 3 or bring my GameCube when I visit family.
Here's how I would have done the DLC as a "SuperStar Season Pass": 5 New Boards - 1 from MP 1, 2 from MP2, 2 from MP3 (one board would release every 2 - 3 months to space them out and keep everyone playing like how they did the DLC for Smash and Mario Kart) 50 New Minigames - For every board that would come out, 10 minigames would be added as well (4 Free-for-All, 3 2-v-2, 3 1-v-3 for each board releasing) 5 New Characters (even though they don't do much, it would still be nice to have. ) - Diddy Kong, Nabbit, Boom Boom, Pom Pom, Pauline (couldn't add characters like Koopa, Boo, etc as their roles are already fulfilled in game) Returning Items - Golden Mushroom, Bowser Suit, Reverse Mushroom, Bowser Phone, Boo Repellent, Wacky Watch, Koopa Kard, Barter Box. More Party Options - Game Turn Count can now max up to 50 Turns like in Mario Party 2, Increasing the number of Bonus Stars between 0 - 5 at the end of the game, customizing what items can appear in the shop, a 2 vs. 2 Game Mode like in Mario Party DS / Super Mario Party. Balancing Changes to unfair, unbalanced or simple minigames, as examples; Piranha's Pursuit, Pogo-a-Go-Go, Spin Doctor, Roll Call, Tread Carefully, etc, etc. More Purchasable things in the Store for Party Points - Music from Mario Party's 1 - 10, artwork and concept art from Mario Party 1 - 10, New Stickers, New Player Card Backgrounds and Character Icon. That about covers everything I can think of, if anyone else has any ideas, feel free to comment. My ideas were based of I could be plausible for SuperStar DLC, so I couldn't go wild with everything but I think everything I put down here sounds reasonable. Hope you all take care. ^w^
My personal take on the game is that it’s a perfectly serviceable mario party, but doesn’t have enough content especially considering it’s all older minigames and boards
Their is a major correction i need to give you when it comes to the hidden block system of this game. This game uses the original mario party system of hidden blocks, which places two blocks on random blue spaces (one coins and the other a star) at the beginning of your play session Which one you find is determined by the randomizer of the placement, not the spawn of the blocks. Meaning if you find a star on a particular blue space its because that star block spawned on that space. And after being picked up it randomizes to a different blue space on the board of that type. Meaning only one of each type is on the board at any given time
8:20 I’d like to point out that rolling two 7’s on doubles or three 7’s on triple dice gives wayyyyy more money than just rolling doubles. But I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone roll triple 7’s anyway
I am SO here for Brent gaming video essays!! This video was extremely well made and informative! I learned so many things that I never noticed from watching Party Crashers gameplay. Looking forward to seeing more of this type of content!
I actually would love a video where you create DLC for this game. Ive seen a lot of videos about people creating DLCs for games, but a Mario Party one sounds really interesting
God, I love those videos where the creators just share their appreciation and knowledge for a topic they like. It's so clear that the mario party series means a lot to you and you've built a lot of memories around it. Keep it up! :D
The 5 boards (one being unplayable) and no DLC are really sad, but the thing that bothered me the most is not being able to duel for stars. It doesnt matter all that much when just having fun with family, but for the chronic gamer friend groups it takes out a lot of the competition and comeback factor in the last couple turns
"The custom dice is so good because it offers consistency and reliability every time you get it." while For The Commander is in the background is the most Fire Emblem-ass sentence anyone has said about Mario Party ever keep it up chief youre doing great work
I think this game didn’t need DLC, but it really feels like it was implied we were gonna get dlc. Not only the lack of boards, and we know how Nintendo loves to add content later on things. And with their new little “If the character has a role on the boards/minigames, they can’t be playable” rule there were some no brainer characters that don’t appear in the game apart from cameos. Combine that fact that the roster cut so many characters from super(not even mentioning how easy it would be to just port them over) really made it feel like we like it should’ve happened. Another thing about this game is representation, I mean 100 minigames and we have 2 MP8 minigames. For a celebration of all Mario party games it sure just felt like they may aswell have just went more on the N64 era. (The Top 100 had the same problem) Genuinely DLC could’ve done wonders and fixed this issue, like if they had a GCN DLC Pack with boards from games 4-7 and brought back more minigames from those games too. Same with the Wii/Wii U era 8-10. And if they were getting frisky they could add Mario party 9-10 boards and could bring back those ways of playing Mario Party, most wouldn’t play it but hey the option would be nice. And this pack would need to add so many 8-10 minigames since they definitely got the least representation (especially 8) Add 5 characters in each pack and boom the perfect dlc for superstars. But Overall the game is good, but definitely could’ve used some extra oomph.
Honestly I could listen to you talk for hours Brent. Whether it's a review, or even reading a book or doing a podcast. You make a great script and your gaming knowledge is incredible! My hats off to you sir! I reckon you should review your top 3 least favourite games and say reasons as to why. That would be a fun watch!
Everyone talks DLC when it comes to games. I'll go the other way and say it should've had more content out the door. That is how games used to be built. Even if it took longer to release, a lot of individuals would've loved it.
I did wish Bowser Minigames were scary like in Mario Party 7. This video feels like one of those Identifying Mario Party videos with Brent's calm voice.
Awesome video bro, love the content you've been providing for this game with the fellas, always a good time watching a mario party game However there are a ton of stuff that I want to point out which you didn't mention in the video. So I brought my nerd glasses out and stated fun facts and extra useful knowledge about the party mode: - Hidden blocks can't spawn on star spaces - There is a very rare chance you can get a bonus star depending on how much stickers you used during an online game specifically - No gold pipes or Boo Bell can appear on Peach's Birthday Cake - Mr. I's price is cheaper during the nighttime (3 coins instead of 6) - Horror Land is tied with Woody Woods in terms of bank spaces and not the sole one with three bank spaces.
You really have to take a look at Mario party 9, leaving aside the turn mechanic it has really original concepts and (for me) one of the best minigame selections of any game, also the extras beat any game in the series with the museum
Mario Party Superstars was technically My first introduction the the Mario Party 1,2,3 boards before NSO I did also notice some questionable decisions as well when I played more but I didn't care cause I love the game too the 4th game in the series was My introduction the Mario Party Great Video Man!
I watched SIlokHawk rank every minigame in Superstars, and I think he explained them and the problems in them very well. Even if it seems like he's a bit nitpicky.
9:55 What about the Gold pipes? Aren't they OP as well? Maybe the second best item in the game? Shouldn't it be more expensive? 17:24 In your opinion, was Space land better in MP2? You know, aside from the economy system(and no lucky spaces)
Speaking of Mario Party 3 it's baffling how a game that's over 20 years old and on a console that had limited storage has more content than a modern Switch version
that was a nice Identifying Luck-lite video I wish you talked about the differences between the original and the remake for every boards, because they are all changed in some way : -Space Land's happening event, with the snifit police, brings you to a different space -Horror Land has one less day boo, and the Womps don't block the path you just took -Woody woods' happening events don't swap all signs anymore, and the gates go in the opposite direction
Space Land is actually my favorite board in Mario Party 2. I think that the Superstars version is worse though due to how they changed the Snifit Patrol. In Mario Party 2 when the extended Snifit Patrol was triggered, all characters in the way would be pushed back to the path leading to the middle of the board. However, Superstars keeps you on the outside paths which(even though it does lead you to the right side Boo) feels like it takes a lot of freedom away from the player, especially on the left side where you can't redirect to the middle and have to walk all the way to the top right to change your direction.
Actually, the number of bonus stars depends on how many turns you choose. If you choose 30, 3 will be awarded at the end of the game. To this day I'm still amazed that the devs managed to make Space Land worse. In MP2 if you get chased by the police you'll end up in the line of the laser, which not only makes it more of a threat, it also makes it so you aren't stuck in the same section over and over again. Another thing about the minigames, what's really sad is that not all of them are in rotation when you start a board. As someone who usually plays 30 turns this gets very noticeable over time. Overall though I can agree with most of what you said and this is definitely the first game in the series in a long time where it feels they made a step forward. I still rank the original 8 higher than this, but as far as ND Cube MP goes, this is the best one. Even though my friends and me are still salty to this day that there is no option to play 50 turns.
I really like these review videos because they help educate me on videogames I don’t play/own. I think it has a lot of potential especially for different types of game genres
my issue with the boards to be honest is that they are designed originally for their games specific items (or none in Mp1’s case) in mind. Double dice and custom blocks on yoshis make hitting the event space and getting screwed more rare than in mp1 and woody woods without all of mario party 3’s crazy items has always seemed less fun to me.
Great review Brent! But I do have one thing that you might've not been aware of. When you turn count is 20, the bonus star you'll see will be about two as you said. However, if the turn count goes to 30, it will actually go for three bonus stars at once. I don't know if you only get one bonus star from having it be 10 turns, but the higher count is true. I'm uncertain of why exactly, however. Hope this is a little fun fact!
This was one of the most entertaining, best edited, and least pretentious reviews of anything I've seen. Makes sense, considering you made it! Great job, Brent!!
What are you talking about? There wasnt any other Mario Party games between 8 and superstars. There was simply a huge gap of no game for some baffling reason. :)
Excellent review Brent. Great job. Another thing I want to add is that the minigame distribution is all oher the place. Some games have almost over a dozen minigames while others barley even have anything. 8 got screwed so badly because there's only 2 minigames from 8. Even with the motion controls 8 had, I feel it was more than possible to take the ones that used normal controls or rework the ones that did use motion controls. Another gripe I have is that there's no handheld mario party representation at all. No board or minigame from advance, DS, Island tour, or star rush is present. I agree that MPDS is really the only one thats really worth playing but they all had some really good minigames that deserve to be in superstars. They included content from 9 and 10 so I don't get it. Regardless, great work Brent.
Great video as always Brent. Definitely want to see more of this. You should do one on Color Splash next or at the very least do like a retrospective of the Paper Mario series leading up to Color Splash.
Mario party, of all Mario games, would benefit the most from DLC. Who would turn down more boards, minigames and characters? Extra money is staring Nintendo in the face but they just don't bother. I think there's ENOUGH content in Superstars. I mean, a lot of people are still playing and having "fun" today. The online certainly helped out. But then there's the fact that you know that they could have added a lot more.
On 30-Turn games 3 bonus stars are awarded at the end of the game, if you chose the bonus stars to be random. If the classic bonus stars option was selected, then 3 bonus stars will always be awarded, regardless of the amount of turns.
I honesty just wait for the day for Toad and Toadette to be playable characters again and not party hosts. They were my mains since 7 and 8 since I didn’t get 5 or 6.
It's honestly upsetting how they turned into hosts even though they were really popular during the Gamecube to the 3ds era, this game would've been perfect to have them comeback, but they gotta recycle something from SMP huh? 🥲
This was a solid review and I definitely look forward to seeing more in the future. If there’s any area of improvement, I didn’t notice anywhere else, but the ending of the Space Land segment, the energy brought in just didn’t work for me. That level of energy works in the multiplayer and single player videos you do, but just kinda felt weird tonally with the rest of the video, which was a solid critical look at the game. Humor’s subjective, though, and all that. So that could totally just be me. Overall, the video was good- the edits were good and funny, the narration was well done, keeping a calm and level head when explaining the positives and negatives, you were very thorough, and you were fair in criticism.
Every single time i play online, it ALWAYS comes down to the wire. I love this game! Somehow every match ends up feeling like the best Mario Party you've ever had. It's the only game I'm constantly receiving random friend request for.
Hey everyone! Hope you're doing well!
Wanted to make a series where I "review" certain games that I care about, and the Mario Party games are gonna be the big ones! ... I forgot the Hidden Block Card for items... well that item just gives you a Hidden Block at the moment, either coins or a star. Fun fact: it's NOT predetermined, meaning if you use the item and get 5 coins, then reset your game and use it again, you could get a star lol
I know all the Mario Party games might take a while for you to review, but there's no rush. We can be patient, y'know...
...take your time.

No DLC is criminal. So many maps and minigames they could’ve added
@@KingOfSkill Well, I assume that is due to the game being actually complete. Move onto the next project and that's it I guess

Custom Dice:
Cannot be used to land on Chance Time
Developer Notes: We saw that Vernias had spent a long time learning the timing needed to have complete control over Chance Time instead of the standard of having control of the first two chosen blocks.
@@doomclasher92871984
"Practically" being the operative term, here...
I love how every instance of Brent getting Chance Time involved him taking a star from Wario.

The worst of all is that Nintendo completely forgot about Superstars because it has more potential and, above all, more scenarios... you can say that this game was created to calm nostalgic people.
In fact i think Nintendo remember more Super Mario Party since they added actual online play like almost 3 year's after the game came out
Honestly, the literal no love for mario party ds made me pretty sad, like i feel like some of the minigames could have been adapted pretty well.
Yeah they only did it for nostalgia only, it’s still good but had lots of potential
I think everyone would prefer dlc but Nintendo would rather release a whole new game every 2/3 years for full price.
I’d say Superstars is good. A solid 8/10. It could’ve been WAY better, but it’s what the Mario Party series NEEDED to be good again
Yeah mario party need a "return to the basic" after some experiments(especially since those experiments were not that great)
The Wii/Wii U/3DS era was baaaad.

2 are chosen randomly if you play 25 turns or less, it's 3 if you play 30 turns
Also, you can set the bonus stars to classic, basically to how it was in Mario Parties 1-5, where it's always the Minigame, Rich, and Eventful bonus stars that are up for grabs regardless of how many turns played.

There's two wolf in a mario party enjoyer:
one is zoomzike "identifying luck"
the other is king of skills "review"
both are the best videos to ever be uploaded on youtube (probably)
My two biggest issues with this game are
1. The item shops stay the same, forcing the same repetitive boring, snowballing meta super mario party had if not more so
2. The board choices “conveniently” lacking many branching pathways aside from horror land
You have yoshis tropical island which are two linear circles
You have peachs birthday cake which is a linear board
You have space land which almost nothing but straight lines outside of the center
You have woody woods that has the signpost gimmick forcing you on a direction, do you SEE the problem? It makes horror land feel incredibly out of place, and combined with the samey item meta it makes almost every game of superstars feel almost identical to the last, I can’t say the same about any other game in the series not even super mario party to an extent (despite having similar meta issues)
It just feels like NDcube is still on that mario party 9 copium where they have to force linearity as much as they can get away with so your little brother or grandma can process what’s going on which to some extent I get, but it harms part of the core appeal of mario party: The strategy and unpredictability, kinda hard to strategize when there’s a clear best item for cheap prices on a straight line over and over 😵💫
Not a bad game but I’d be lying if I didn’t say this grew to become one of my least fav classic styled mario party games (outside of the improved minigames from games like MP3)
Not gonna go into any other gripes I have either aside from this: For a celebration game, it’s quite the disappointment compared to smash ultimate which came out 3 years ago and even sonic generations which came out a decade prior
@@NickMario1 Mario Party needs a renewal, this game still has the taste of modern Mario Party where it's still too simplistic.
i mean woody woods has alternate paths its a p good board and my favorite overall with horror land coming in second
@@NickMario1 We do seem to run into eachother a lot 😅
My favorite thing that happened when playing Superstars was when a couple of us ended up with 2 Chomp Calls each. At that point, we decided to pick up a third, and then everyone else started grabbing them as well. It was like stockpiling nukes for a "Cold War".
And in the last 3 turns, the Cold War went hot, and we moved the star at *every player's turn* for the rest of the game.
Everyone has learned to fear the Chomp Call "FWEET" sticker.
King Of Skill got me for a second when I saw that Thumbnail
For triple dice, if you roll three 7s, you’ll be rewarded with 50 coins.
Only reason I know this is because a Yoshi AI rolled a triple dice on turn 18 on Peach’s birthday cake.
If I’m not wrong, that is a 1/1000 chance of rolling exactly three 7s, which means it’s extremely rare to occur.
A friend of mine rolled this a few weeks back when playing irl with me and another friend
It's worth noting that in Mario Party Superstars, there are two ways that the game will give out 3 Bonus Stars like in previous entries:
Whereas the Coin Star awards players for the most coins HELD during gameplay, the Rich Star awards players for the most coins COLLECTED (or stolen or spent).)
Also, the fact that there's only a mere five boards in this game is really, really dumb. Couldn't have added another Mario Party 3 board to even out the total to six? Oh well. Honestly, I would've at least liked a Bowser board. It's been a while since we had one and, in my opinion, the chaos in a Bowser board makes it fun and scary.

Here's how I would have done the DLC as a "SuperStar Season Pass":
5 New Boards - 1 from MP 1, 2 from MP2, 2 from MP3 (one board would release every 2 - 3 months to space them out and keep everyone playing like how they did the DLC for Smash and Mario Kart)
50 New Minigames - For every board that would come out, 10 minigames would be added as well (4 Free-for-All, 3 2-v-2, 3 1-v-3 for each board releasing)
5 New Characters (even though they don't do much, it would still be nice to have. ) - Diddy Kong, Nabbit, Boom Boom, Pom Pom, Pauline (couldn't add characters like Koopa, Boo, etc as their roles are already fulfilled in game)
Returning Items - Golden Mushroom, Bowser Suit, Reverse Mushroom, Bowser Phone, Boo Repellent, Wacky Watch, Koopa Kard, Barter Box.
Brent making a whole PhD thesis video about Mario Party Superstars is something I didn't expect but highly appreciate.
8:15 Eevee in shambles
Their is a major correction i need to give you when it comes to the hidden block system of this game.
This game uses the original mario party system of hidden blocks, which places two blocks on random blue spaces (one coins and the other a star) at the beginning of your play session
Which one you find is determined by the randomizer of the placement, not the spawn of the blocks.

And this pack would need to add so many 8-10 minigames since they definitely got the least representation (especially 8)
Add 5 characters in each pack and boom the perfect dlc for superstars.
But Overall the game is good, but definitely could’ve used some extra oomph.
Solid video. I would like to see you continue on that direction with other series as well like Fire Emblem
Am I the only one who feels weird at how calm Brent is in this review?

Superstars is my favorite Mario Party game. I personally love it and it sucks that DLC isn't gonna be a thing in this game
Awesome video bro, love the content you've been providing for this game with the fellas, always a good time watching a mario party game
However there are a ton of stuff that I want to point out which you didn't mention in the video. So I brought my nerd glasses out and stated fun facts and extra useful knowledge about the party mode:
- Hidden blocks can't spawn on star spaces
- There is a very rare chance you can get a bonus star depending on how much stickers you used during an online game specifically
- No gold pipes or Boo Bell can appear on Peach's Birthday Cake
- Mr. I's price is cheaper during the nighttime (3 coins instead of 6)
- Horror Land is tied with Woody Woods in terms of bank spaces and not the sole one with three bank spaces.
You really have to take a look at Mario party 9, leaving aside the turn mechanic it has really original concepts and (for me) one of the best minigame selections of any game, also the extras beat any game in the series with the museum
An interesting trivia on woody woods: if you go to the good one and don't move you'll get nothing, but with the evil one you'll get both
Sophist be like: I hate Mario party (since he almost always gets last)
Funny thing is that wario is always last in the gameplay of this video
Although I think recently sophist has been doing well in not getting last he doesn’t win but he doesn’t get last

"Bro, of course they're going to add new boards in an update"
-The wrongest defenders of a video game ever.
This seems like this’ll be a great series! Excited to hear an in-depth analysis on the Mario party games
It's absolutely insane this game never got any kind of updates. Not even a second board from Mario Party 3.
Speaking of Mario Party 3 it's baffling how a game that's over 20 years old and on a console that had limited storage has more content than a modern Switch version
It's quite stupid how 1 & 2 have two boards, while 3 only has one. It's uneven.
that was a nice Identifying Luck-lite video
I wish you talked about the differences between the original and the remake for every boards, because they are all changed in some way :
-Space Land's happening event, with the snifit police, brings you to a different space
-Horror Land has one less day boo, and the Womps don't block the path you just took
-Woody woods' happening events don't swap all signs anymore, and the gates go in the opposite direction
Are you ok I’m concerned
Okay enough to not cry most of the time. Thank you.
Would love to see more of these.
Here after Jamboree is announced, almost looks like a good chunk of Brent’s grievances for this game have been fixed to some capacity
Hopefully
This was one of the most entertaining, best edited, and least pretentious reviews of anything I've seen. Makes sense, considering you made it! Great job, Brent!!
I love how 9 to Super is not here 0:11
What are you talking about? There wasnt any other Mario Party games between 8 and superstars. There was simply a huge gap of no game for some baffling reason. :)
@@RedFlashdriveWhat about DS?
It is a good game
Bro really said "The 'Last Five Turns' event, is an event that happens in the last five turns" with the straightest face i can't
Mario Party Superstars is the game that started it all where Eevee, YOU PICK
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAARIOOOOO!
So, this is basically Brent's version of Identifying Luck ? neat-
5:10 "it's really difficult to control the last block"
Except if you are the LEADER OF THE VERNNATION 😂
I like how you use Luigi, Wario, Daisy and DK but no Birdo XD
@@duebfofnWhy didn't they make toadsworth the main host of the entire series?
@@duebfofn toad was my favourite too. Didn’t know he was really popular - he always seemed rather marmite among fans.
Fun fact: uf you use a controller that vibrates, you can find hidden blocks using the map, that is what I've been told.
i think that's only in super
@mrpiccionedivino5598 I thought it was vice versa
6:51 It's actually not always 2
It's dependent on how many turns you are playing
Space Land rules. Actually never heard anyone hate on it before.
Hey Brent this was a fantastic change to your usual lineup and i hope to see more videos like this.
Your analysis was awesome
Ah yes the green space for when Sophist rolls a 0 on the first turn
Every single time i play online, it ALWAYS comes down to the wire. I love this game! Somehow every match ends up feeling like the best Mario Party you've ever had. It's the only game I'm constantly receiving random friend request for.
