I'm glad you touched on the fact that in many folks native countries, snagging/netting can be common practice. Catching and releasing fish can be frowned upon as a senselessy lost opportunity to feed families. I know lots of other nations cringe seeing fish released after being angled. I think finding a way to educate and better spread awareness about the fish and our laws is important. In many cases extreme patience and sensitivity is required before we jump to conclusions about poor angling practices. But we definitely have to keep working together to better protect our fishery and I hope we are heading in a better direction for the future of the fishery. I'm glad to see so many anglers putting in their time and effort to expose how bad the issues really are.
First off, great video. hit the nail on the head on this issue. I agree with your idea of the implementation of "tags" on certain fish or even rivers. Further adding to your idea of the tag system, it can be a double positive in potentially opening a catch-and-release season for Sturgeon after all these decades of it being closed.
Excellent podcast Lyle ! I'm so glad you posted this one about how our great fisheries are being abused. You're too polite although I understand why. I'm not far from the Cobourg site and as a real fisherman as many are , we all do our utmost to maintain our fisheries to the best of our abilities, but seeing this kind of activity more than pisses me off. I don't care who , what colour they are or what language they speak , wrong is wrong and these folks , even though they've been told snagging and netting is illegal they continue to do it with no regards for the law. Out here (east of TO) I'm told as you mentioned that the MNR manpower is lacking so yeah , maybe tags for individual rivers may be good but at the very least , post more signs saying "No snagging or netting etc. The MNR told my friend they didn't have anyone to send to Duffins Creek and to call the cops, he did and they said there wasn't anything they could do !! This I think ought to be fixed asap Anyway Lyle , thank you for posting this again and bringing this outrageous behavior to the attention of many more people Cheers Mike

the thing is, they dont "think" they're above the rules; our politicians literally tell them and demonstrate that they are above the rules.
Waste a resource not correct the problem arrest the riff who pays to have all the fish cleaned just like you said Not your problem
Fish spond on gravel beds not limestone shelfs
