Good surgeons can give amazing results. Don't be fooled into thinking that there aren't great surgeons for every procedure. You need to do your research just like anything important in life.
there are 2 methods: muscle and skin and skin only. Muscle and skin lasts longer. Everything depends on the skill of the surgeon and the patient's unique physiology.
I've only seen a few of your videos but I love what you do. I'm one of the few surgeons that I know that won't sell things to people that aren't good for them or that don't work. I like that you shed light on these things. So many plastic surgeons and other people doing cosmetic procedures will do anything on patients whether it works or not just for the sake of making money. I just can't bring myself to practicing like that. It's still medicine even if cosmetic medicine. We owe it to people not to take advantage of them.
Dr Youn, I had a lip lift last July and yes there is a scar. It was concerning to me at first. But 8-9 months now, I love it and my scar is not bad at all. I haven’t had one person ask or notice the scar. I don’t wear makeup everyday but when I do, it’s totally gone. When I don’t only I know it’s there. I don’t regret it. I would do it again. The only thing and I pretty much knew already that I would only get a lift pretty much at the Cupid’s bow. Knowing I would still want fuller on sides. So I still get all filled out not much on sides and it looks so much more prettier with the lift in the center. Although I had normal size lips. I just liked the idea of the shorter distance from nose to lip and it looks more youthful. Also the little filler I get to round out my whole upper lip is so much more natural. I use peels , AHA’s BHA’ and retinol so I am working on my scar as time goes by. I think it is very natural but yes there is that scar. Long as the patient knows the get this you get that. Then the patient knows to expect it. Then take very good care of the incision and as time goes by use peels and other exfoliating products that help renew the skin. I’m very happy with mine but also I’m older over 50. I do agree I would not do or recommend on a young person!! No one knows just how that scar will heal. That is the downside. Also the patient needs to know it only lifts right at Cupid’s bow. I thought hard on the real finished look. I knew the lift would not give me 100% full top lip. I really agree with you on younger people doing this. Good advice
Wow I had this procedure without knowing. As a side effect of my revision nose surgery. I had a deviated septum surgery at 18 but that insurance payed simple nose-throat-ear doctor didn’t give a shit. Years later it became obvious he botched me. He had removed the tip of my septum making my nose droop like a trunk because it was unsupported. I got a revision by a proper plastic surgeon and he ended up not taking knew cartilage from my rip but making my nose simply shorter. I healed very badly on this on the inside of my septum because my skin is very thin. So it took years to realize that my mouth no longer closes when rested. It is really annoying. I don’t understand why people would willingly do this surgery. I literally had lip filler for a while to try and make my mouth look more closed but it didn’t work.
Jan Klaas nope. In Germany in my hometown. It was done by a ears-nose-throat doctor and payed by our public insurance. He was a douchebag personally as well, very arrogant and I was too scared as a teen to object. Second one was done by a local plastic surgeon specializing on noses, this time I payed myself.
@@melz6625 @Mel Z no they can make very beautiful and "effective" noses but there are so many doctors who do rhinoplasties there and i also want to do mine by a nose-throat-ear doctor because some plastic surgeons can make the noses of the clients a little too small. But because you said that you have a bad experience with a nose-throat -ear doctor im extra scared. Im also sorry for your bad experience. (sorry for my bad english btw).
Jan Klaas Completely understand. Noses are actually quite tricky. Many resist being straightened and just go crooked anyway again. But with the skin inside being soo sensitive, every new surgery increases the chance of complication like some can have perpetual runny noses or like me I have nosebleeds every day. The nose now is quite small but it is a consequence from the first doctor taking out the entire cartilage from my nose tip, making it droop like an elephant trunk after a year or two. The plastic surgeon fixed it, made it straight but didn’t use extra rib bone to make it longer so the nose now is shorter than my already short nose (think Britney Spears original nose). I recommend a consultation and really seeing if you vibe with the doctor. If the vibe is off, don’t shy away from seeing another doctor. A nose-ear-throat doctor might not do too many actual surgeries on noses but a specialized plastic surgeon who is known for his noses does them all day long. That is why I personally prefer them. He should just be conservative in not doing old Hollywood or Persian surgery noses, you can check that out on their websites I’m sure.
I have had several procedures by a Plastic Surgeon and all turned out perfectly, no complications. However, I have seen a recipient of this surgery, done by a good surgeon and it looked terrible. I shall continue to draw on my lips, thank you for this informative video. I wish you could show pics, both good and bad.

After my LL, the scar healed to 50% visible. After 6 laser sessions over a year scar is 10% visible and further maturing. It’s Easy to cover with makeup but still detectable to my own eye!
this surgical method has other, much more serious disadvantages that were not mentioned... 1) the patient feels an unpleasant pull under the nose forever......2) it exposes the teeth more, which does not suit everyone (especially if you have an overbite on the upper teeth) ... 3) the corners of the mouth remain down, so that your lips will look droopy and saddy (another surgery to lift the corners of the mouth is often necessary) ...;)
Lucky you as you can go on with the lip lift surgery. For me, my lip is naturally lift which means my upper front teeth is showing obviously. I cannot even close my lips at rest unless i forced it to close plus a strain at the chin :(
I just got my done two days ago . I removed 7mm and love the results so far! In a year did you notice much of a difference once the swelling is gone? I hope it’s not much of a difference
Dr Youn I respect and enjoy your educational videos but unfortunately you may have missed the updates on this procedure. This video is a great warning if people were still doing lip lifts like they were in 2003, and sadly many are, but what popularized the lip lift was the modified or deep plane upper lip lift. You’re in essence comparing the issues seen in smas plication facelifts to deep plane facelifts which are unarguably more natural and substantial in their change. I have an article you can read to update your views of the lip lift. I still appreciate your warning as many surgeons are still using the antiquated techniques you’re describing, but as a young doctor I assume you would want to get a better understanding of why scarring occurs in these surgeries regardless of age. With respect. Ben
I read that there are different methods for a lip lift and that the best is when the lip muscle is also pulled up along with the skin removal. As I remember from that article is that just removal of skin will cause it to stretch in time and upper lip will return to its old position.
I did the lip filler thing & I was trying to explain to the lady y. I wanted to somewhat shorten the distance between my nose & top lip. She was like umm no that’s not going to work ☠️☠️ so I’m back here considering the cons & if I should go through with it. I’m 22
You don't need that you pretty young thing. Please don't let your ideas of beauty get shaped by social media influencers. I wish you joy and self acceptance. 🙌
I’m so grateful you give such honest feedback on these procedures. I’d rather have an upper lip that doesn’t quite match my bottom than risk a very visible scar or a keloid.
There's no case of keloid with this particularly surgery in medical history. Also the scar can be treated after the surgery and some doctors can also cut the scar after some months of the procedure, this leads to a even thinner scar. I think that considering the pros and cons of lip fillers, botox and lip lift the last one is the best option in my humble opinion
What exactly would constitute a "young woman" exactly? I am 40 but look deceptively young because I have a connective tissue disorder that basically prevents wrinkles for me. I appear closer to late 20s in age according to my friends. One sign of aging I haven't missed is a thinning upper lip (especially as a fair skinned red head who's lost lip coloration with age as well)

4:04 - I had a nose job at 17 (open procedure), and I was warned I might get mid columella scarring, but luckily I didn't get any. Considering it's a similar area, albeit different procedure, might I manage to avoid significant scarring if I got a lip lift? Or does it also depend on the surgeon's technique?
This is good to know. I wish you could have posted some pics of bad scarring. I had two lip lifts. One in my forties and one in late 50's. The first one created a stiffness at the scar so when I smiled I had a funny crease. The second one the doctor was able to cut that out. I do not have a visible scar but I will say if you have a shorter nose or a decent amount of nasal show, the nostrils tend to pull down a little and make more nasal show. You should discuss that possibility with your surgeon.
I am 49 and the only reason I have not had it yet is COVID19 - Convince me Doc I have a scar on my upper lip that comes from a Father giving a child of just over a year old a lit sparkler for a photo, of course, babies put things in the mouth and the fire stick went up to my left nostril and runs alongside my cupids bow. At this age, I have lots of scars - and I feel like a bullhorn lip lift with a neck lift is all I need. No full facelift. Maybe at 70?
Saw it on another channel. Dear god it looks so artificial. Especially from the side view. She mentioned that she gets asked about that scar too. That it widened her nasal alar area. Can you cover the z lip lift? Complications and how to fix.
I don't agree with Dr.Youn in this one. Both me(23) and my mother got it done and the results are amazing. Also there is no problem with scar on none of us. Its been 4 months since I got it done and my scar is invisible. My nose tip also high so it is not covered by it either. I think it is a very nice prodecure and it really improves your look without making a very dramatic change.

Do lip fillers achieve the same effect of 1. shortening the philtrum by having more prominent upper lip and 2. making an increased nasolabial angle? Im going to get facial fat transfer, so I'm hoping this effect can be achieved by lip filler instead.
I recently saw a program of a make-up artist and he said he preferred lips with a longer distance between the lips and the nose because otherwise "you look like a clown". I believe he was very rude there, however you can see that everyone's idea of beauty is different, so why change yourself.
I have a slightly asymmetrical lip and I thought a minor lift could help. Guess not. I don't want lip fillers (my lips are a nice size), so what would you recommend? In my 30's.
I’m imagining the scars I have from being 19 and falling that are not visible - would be under my nose.. ugh that’d be horrible but I really want this done..
I had it done about a month ago by Dr. Mascaro in Florida and I'm 21! I'm Asian, and he said that Asians tend to scar the worst because of how thick our skin is, but quite literally no one has noticed the scar at all. The area around my nose is still a little red, but the incision looks great. You can't tell unless you really look for the scar - and it's only been a month so far.
I've had a lip lift at 25 and have zero regrets. I do have a visible scar if you go up close, but it's white and quite even, so with make up on its barely visible. I am very pale though, I don't know how that scar would look on someone with more pigment. The scar sits right in the edge between nose and upper lip, so it's also kind of hidden by the nose, unless you tend to have a very upturned nose that exposes lot of that area I think the scarring is fine.

Hi Doc! Is there any permenant procedure to get a deeper, more define philtrum? My lips looks kinda flat and I wished had more depths as people with more deeper and define philtrum makes the lips look more attractive.
@@roachspray I think it depends on whether you have a droopy nose. Everyone's facial structures are different. Once you set up a consultation with a good surgeon, you can mention the width between your lip and they will let you know what they think. I went for a consultation last month. Lip lifts aren't his specialty, so he doesn't do them and he doesn't suggest women to. He suggests if patients are concern with the width, that lip fillers are the best option.
A better alternative is a fibroblast lip flip - treatments are low pain and heal in about a week with no scaring. I'm happy after 1 treatment (nurse said I could do up to 3 treatments for "max" results), though I'll probably go back for regular maintenance every few years.
Dr. Youn, what is your opinion on lip corner lift? I always had a plump upper lip and now with almost 50, lip corners sagged and I look sad. Thank you!
I do feel with the improved techniques a lip lift often looks way more natural than the ridiculous sausage or duck lips with fillers. Also using lipfillers for the rest of your life , putting stuff in your face which they now found out doesn't always dissolves and and even travels ( watch Victorian cosmetic institute here on YT he talks about this another doctor besides Dr Youn i like to watch) doesn't sound safe to me either.
TheBoots72 I agree, I’m on the same page where I don’t like the overfilled look. He has a video explaining the downfalls of lip filler in young women too. I think I’m going to wait a few years and still get a lip lift because I don’t want to get filler for the rest of my life
@@ellenn Yes they did research about the filler itself but apparently they never researched what it does in your body or what happens if not all of the filler dissolves. Is there a procedure that can lengthen your nose, not in terms of how far it protrudes from your face, but how low set it is? The upper lip lift is the only procedure I've ever been able to find to fix the large space between my nose and upper lip, and ultimately I really just want my nose to be longer but this was the next best thing 😔 I have a super short nose and people have even commented on how "petite" it is...

Yeah, I’ve heard of this. You still have to get fillers because your lips are still flat afterwards & you can’t form your b’s, p’s, or m’s right cause your bottom lip can’t reach your upper lip. Plus it widens the nostrils too, and leaves a scar lol. I wouldn’t recommend it. If you want bigger lips, I’d just stick to fillers or over lining ladies.

For me, a scar is better than the negative self esteem I have from having a longer upper (NTM thin) lip at such a young age. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ also I have a septum ring and wear makeup anyway so the scar wouldn’t be as noticeable. Also, I’d rather feel my best in my youth than polishing a turd in my 60s lmao
Same, I'm a guy so arent gonna use make up, but my upper lip is really thin. Not really looking seriously at this tho yet
“Polishing a turd” Bahaha I’ll have to use this expression LOL

Watching your videos at 43 makes me very relieved not to have been able to afford all the plastic surgery I thought I needed. I’d be a mess :(
I’ll stick to non invasive procedures and a good skincare routine - thank you Dr. Youn ✌🏻👏🏻🏆
Good surgeons can give amazing results. Don't be fooled into thinking that there aren't great surgeons for every procedure. You need to do your research just like anything important in life.
You wouldn't be a mess with the right surgeons, but ok.

Good advice
Who did you go to?

Did you do your first rhinoplasty in Turkey?
Jan Klaas nope. In Germany in my hometown. It was done by a ears-nose-throat doctor and payed by our public insurance. He was a douchebag personally as well, very arrogant and I was too scared as a teen to object. Second one was done by a local plastic surgeon specializing on noses, this time I payed myself.
Jan Klaas Is Turkey known for botched surgeries?

William Seegmiller would you say the nose appeared wider?
Did it affect the amount of nostril show by any chance?
Thank god I found this video before I did this surgery 😭
this surgical method has other, much more serious disadvantages that were not mentioned...
Got to love the beauty standards these days
tbh the scar is worth it my upper teeth arent even visible when i smile
Lucky you as you can go on with the lip lift surgery. For me, my lip is naturally lift which means my upper front teeth is showing obviously. I cannot even close my lips at rest unless i forced it to close plus a strain at the chin :(
I still want it though thank God for makeup to hide the scar

This is the second cosmetic surgery dr youn has talked me out of!!! First face threads and now this!
I would love the look of a lip lift, but I’m too afraid of eventually becoming a mouth breather 😟
How
Dr Youn I respect and enjoy your educational videos but unfortunately you may have missed the updates on this procedure. Ben
Ben Talei so is he wrong in saying a lip lift would widen the nose?
Mai Mai classic lip lifts would. There have been major advances in the past 6 years
You menciones the article but didn’t put here it’s link. Could you, please?
One sign of aging I haven't missed is a thinning upper lip (especially as a fair skinned red head who's lost lip coloration with age as well)
look at the work of Dr Ben Talei in Beverly Hills. The before and afters are amazing. I think people just need to find a doctor who really knows what they are doing.

Then what would you say to the women that get breast implants, as well as other cosmetic surgeries. Can they also develop blunt/pronounced scars?

I am 49 and the only reason I have not had it yet is COVID19 - Convince me Doc
I have a scar on my upper lip that comes from a Father giving a child of just over a year old a lit sparkler for a photo, of course, babies put things in the mouth and the fire stick went up to my left nostril and runs alongside my cupids bow.

Couldn’t you use microneedling rf and lasers to help with it?
If you Lip blush, possibly
I've had a lip lift at 25 and have zero regrets. I do have a visible scar if you go up close, but it's white and quite even, so with make up on its barely visible. I am very pale though, I don't know how that scar would look on someone with more pigment. The scar sits right in the edge between nose and upper lip, so it's also kind of hidden by the nose, unless you tend to have a very upturned nose that exposes lot of that area I think the scarring is fine.
I just got my done two days ago . I removed 7mm and love the results so far! In a year did you notice much of a difference once the swelling is gone? I hope it’s not much of a difference

Hi Doc! Is there any permenant procedure to get a deeper, more define philtrum? My lips looks kinda flat and I wished had more depths as people with more deeper and define philtrum makes the lips look more attractive.
Actually after a major rhinoplasty I had my lip lifted itself~
That's exactly what I was thinking. I was wondering if I got my rhinoplasty, I may not have the lip lift due to the doctor fixing my hanging nose.
@@SundayBlues555 ooo is that possible? Im worried that lifting the hanging nose would just show more of my philtrum (space between lip and nose base)

Thank you!
Why does it matter what he thinks? Do your research and see an expert in that procedure who can give you your options after examining you.
Tbh I still want it and don’t care about the scar. My philtrum is stupid long. I would look really dumb with lip fillers and a long ass philtrum.

Hi Dr how about at my 40th?
Yes! Good question. 👌🏻I want it done at 40 as well
Is there a procedure that can lengthen your nose, not in terms of how far it protrudes from your face, but how low set it is? The upper lip lift is the only procedure I've ever been able to find to fix the large space between my nose and upper lip, and ultimately I really just want my nose to be longer but this was the next best thing 😔 I have a super short nose and people have even commented on how "petite" it is...
What do you think about v to y lip plasty to enlarge the red part of the upper lip?
If anyone wants a different opinion, I highly, highly recommend you go check out Dr. Gary Linkov's video on lip lift. Dr. Linkov basically goes step after step against Dr. Youn's opinion on lip lift. After listening to Dr. Linkov regarding lip lift, I am planning to go through with the surgery. Just make sure the surgeon specializes in lip lifts!
This surgeon mutilated me and left me with horrible scars. Don’t believe everything you hear on you tube
Why it is that sometimes the lip lift surgery results looks like a “crooked” “cleft lip” surgery shape ? With that lip looking Inward , the nose tip dropping down and with a lip with partial mobility look like , and other times the results are totally natural?... depends if the muscle it is involved or de anatomy of the paciente ? I see this two different outcome with the same plastic surgieron performance so often and I can’t figure out what is it.
Didn't like the video. No solutions for ppl with actually long philtrums, thin upper lips and no visible upper teeth.

People don't do this to get bigger lips, they do it to shorten their philtrum.
DMB exactly
