    How to support Ukraine:
    how-you-can-support-ukraine.super.site/
I'm sorry if this video disappoints some, and angers others. Those who are upset will hopefully find UA-cam channels creating the content they're looking for.
Here is my newsletter referenced in the video:
    bit.ly/3a3i7Dr
Here are those Luminar Neo bug fixes:
    Now, on macOS you can:
    - Browse Presets without experiencing memory leaks
    - Display correct radial masking coordinates when the Crop tool is applied
    - Apply brush strokes to a Layer with the masking brush without seeing parts of the
    underlying image
    - Use the Crop tool without affecting the previously copy-pasted inverted mask on your
    image
    - Open masking mode in the Edits tab and click Revert to Original without experiencing
    crashes
Use the B hokey twice without crashes on macOS Catalina (10.15)
    - Place the sun center when using the Sunrays Tool without losing the brush visualization
Press Enter while specifying the brush size value in the refinement brush without
    collapsing the tool
    - Revert edits in the Catalog tab so that changes are not visible in Edit mode
    - Double-click the image on a second layer and see it correctly reset without stretching over
    the underlying image
    - Smoothly use the X hotkey for masking brush and Erase tools
    - Rename an external disk without display issues with Locate folder
    And on Windows you can:
    - Browse Presets without experiencing memory leaks
    - Display correct radial masking coordinates when the Crop tool is applied
    - Apply brush strokes to a Layer with the masking brush without seeing parts of the
    underlying image
    - Use the Crop tool without affecting a previously copy-pasted inverted mask on your image
    - Smoothly export multiple images with fixed resize value
    - When exporting, replace a photo in the original folder in the Catalog without experiencing
    crashes
    - Apply the Erase tool and be sure all edits are recorded in the database, even after opening
the Catalog tab without collapsing the Erase tool
    - Choose Image - Adjustments in the menu when in an empty album without crashing
    - Load image previews even if previews were manually deleted from the cache
    - Manually input the brush size without crashing
    - Open the Edit tab after switching tabs and scroll up smoothly

I agree Anthony, there are a lot of tools out there, and many of them may not be around in a couple of years. As an instructor/creator, it makes sense to focus your time on things that you like, use, and believe in the viability of. It's a challenge to be "all things to all people" and I applaud your decision here. I too have taken a similar approach in recent months. It's a struggle to stay on top of all the development across a wide variety of tools. Focus your energy on the things you want to focus on. Good discussion, thanks for sharing!

I have followed your UA-cam channel for a number of years, Anthony, and have always received a "learning experience" from each of them. Best wishes for your future with your family and with wherever your new career emphasis takes you. Your teaching style is thorough, informative, and easy to follow. Thank you for how you have helped me over the years. I'll be looking forward to your next video.

I also saw on another video that Luminar Neo added the " x" key to be able to switch back and forth between paint and erase with the brush in masking.

Hi Anthony, whilst I don't use my DSLRs as often as I used to, it is partly a fear of being mugged for them... also their weight. My cameras, have the singular advantage of distance shots but they are only 24mp whereas my phone's camera is 48mp. My cameras are weatherproof, dustproof and can be used down to -10°Celsius my phone does non of these. I dp a lot of photography inside country houses, but recently owners have been saying to visitors to use mobile phones only, not even compacts. For those of us that enjoy the hobby aspect of using big cameras, the gadgers etc can be fun but the increasing quality of mobile phones' photographic capabilities means that, especially with Luninar Share, any photo can be enhanced in Luminar Neo.

I am a bit disappointed that you are dropping C1 as I purchased it in response to my disgust with Adobe and their license polices and am just trying to figure it out, but I understand that you have to make your decisions based on what is best for you. I still like your channel :-). Best wishes.

  • @JoeB_BSc

Hi Anthony, I think you have a point regarding cameras. I own 3 Pentax DSLRs but only use 2: the K70 range. In the last year I have only used them once. I mainly use an Olympus Tough compact camera which is waterproof and a Samsung smartphone which has a 48mp lens. Taking photos at shows or in street scenes is much easier with a phone since in my opinion people react less to a phone than a camera esp if it does not appear to include them. The waterproof camera substitutes in rainy weather. But with the smartphone, I use several photo apps and also the Skylum series, and Photoscape X Pro only. So your cutting down on variety for specific programs in my opinion is a great idea

I'm a big fan of your channel but your explanation for reducing the software makers you review will only serve to accelerate their demise ( if that's what we believe). DXO in particular renders most files better than Lightroom and growth of this software ( amongst others) should be supported not hindered in my view. If everyone adopted your logic it would eventually lead to an Adobe monopoly ( I use LR so have nothing against it) but this is exactly how niche players get squeezed out. Additionally Adobe has improved LR enormously over the last 18 months mainly spurred on by competition.

I agree about LR - it was quite static for a long time, but so many other companies are making more flexible software they have been forced to up their game - without competition they may go back to being lazy

Fair assessment. I did say for at least the time being I won't be doing videos on those products mentioned - I will keep my ear to the rail and reassess my decision. Overall though, I'm not exclusively going to be doing videos on Adobe Products. I'm continuing with On1, Luminar, Topaz Labs, Affinity Photo and adding Pixelmator.

As I mentioned above I re-upped with DXO after being away from the business for a few years. The software is good except for the differences between the Windows and Mac versions. The Windows version (according to the company's responses to me) isn't yet 'caught up'. OK, I can live with that. But where this comes completely unglued is their care for customers and lack of response. I spent a few hundred dollars between DXO and NIK because they would not honor 7 licenses going back 15+ years. OK, I get it. But the lack of care, the arrogant responses, the separation of the so-called "support" and "feedback" arms of the company was finally more than I could bear.
I no longer support ANY company whose customer care is as poor as this. A company like DXO that is so obviously "struggling" but at the same time ignores the customers that use their products doesn't deserve support.
So, I understand your argument about supporting 'the little guy' but when that 'little guy' doesn't earn your loyalty in any way (and in DXO's case goes out of their way to make it difficult) then they don't deserve support. Small companies that are doing battle with the big dogs in the business (like Topaz Labs for example) and that go above and beyond to support their customers get my vote (and loyalty) every time.

So many of these external plugins duplicate each other. As a classroom teacher of art photography for the National Park photographic expeditions I sometimes feel that students are wasting their money with duplicate software. There's just not enough room in this space for everybody to succeed and the natural selection process is going to eliminate some. I absolutely agree with your insight

Bravo for the work you've gifted us so far, Anthony, and for the decisions you've made going forward. Family time, in particular, is irreplaceable. That said, I must say I'm devastated at the mere *thought* something might be awry with DXO. I have a raft of editing software - all the usual suspects - and PhotoLab 5 is the best all-round starting point.... by a country mile. AND it doesn't rely on the ridiculous subscription model ! (No, I don't work for DXO. And yes, I know it's all personal opinion.)

I think you're making an appropriate assessment of the markets, where to spend your time, and the opportunities. One thing I'm not sure about is the level of the people that view your videos and buy your products. I would assume it is the enthusiast segment with little relative involvement from pros and entry or beginner level. I'm not sure how big that market is and whether it is actually shrinking. Clearly - the entry/novice user is not buying cameras the way they did in the past. But I suspect that's not really your market.

I think I love your Piexelmater comment. I don't like photos op since it is very complicated if you don't fully commit to it. I usually need photoshop do do some fix lightroom can't. I bought pixelmater after your last video because it looks as photoshop light with many similarities.
The problem wit photoshop is that it is to old and trying to retain backwards comoetability makes it complicated and not friendly.
It looks as if Pixelmater don't has those limitations and try make things easier to the user. This is why I decided to give it a try over photoshop that I really hate due to lack of know lage and unnecessary complexity

Sorry to hear about DxO, which I assume includes the Nik collection? PhotoLab and nik are my primary tools. Your series on Nik was my introduction to the tools and was invaluable. But I understand where you are heading with this. On the subject of Neo, I was one of the early birds and reported about a dozen bugs in the early release, but by release 1.02 it was still pretty much unusable so I got my money back. Recently they offered me a cheap deal to try again (rel 1.07) and it was like night and day! I'm still waiting for some promised features (clone tool, dodge/burn, etc) but it is now stable and mostly as promised. Of course, the fact I had in the interim upgraded my old Intel i5 Windows 10 box to an M1 Mac-mini had a lot to do with the performance improvements! Neo is a long way from complete but it's certainly now very much usable if you have the horsepower to drive it.

  • @ezrakoper

    Overall I agree with you.
Regarding Luminar NEO and Luminar in general (and I will be happy if you can comment on that). My problem is that they every short time invent new product killing the older. Also the change the interface all the time. My main tool is lightroom. All the other are added on for me to do somthing lightroom can't. I can't commit (even I bought them all) to Luminar since I don't have the time to learn it in depth while they change it all the time. I bought almost all their products Aurora HDR, Luminar FLEX (don't even remember what it does) Luminar 2018,Luminar3, Luminar 4,Luminar AI and now Luminar NEO.
Now the question is am I supposed to unis tall all and use only Luminar NEO, who can guarantee me that tomorrow they will not drop Luminar New in favor of Luminar XYZ. It is impossible to work with them this way. I love the company and even but the products. However it is hard for me to commit and learn the product in depth when they switch to another one all the time.

I'm an Adobe user myself so nothing to complain about, but it's still sad that you have to cut down on info about some other products. I understand that you need to make a living and making videos few watch or make purchases though your links cant go on forever. Particularly DxO seem to have a unique product though, and it also works well with Adobe software and they could do with some support.

Anthony: I couldn't agree with you more. After almost a ten year break I have returned to doing photography and video full time. About a month ago I set about bringing all my software 'up to date'. The list was extensive and included Exposure, DXO PhotoLab, Topaz and others. I tested every one extensively and, to be fair, most were pretty decent as software. However, where things fell apart was the customer service. DXO as a company is in complete disarray. The Windows development software has fallen quite far behind the Mac and issues have gone unaddressed for years. NIK (owned by DXO) is the same. The customer service/tech support for the main company does not communicate with the forum support team. Topaz, on the other hand, is the opposite. They looked up my licenses going back years ago and honored all of them. They were quick, precise, polite and obviously cared about having my business. The differences in service between the companies is very telling. I will no longer deal with companies that are arrogant (DXO at the top of this list) and don't GAS about their customer base. I applaud your decision.

    • @AnthonyMorganti
      @AnthonyMorganti  2 роки тому +1

Thank you Marshall. Customer service is part of the reason that fueled my decision to stop doing videos on DxO. I all too often received emails from DxO users complaining that DxO wasn't responding to their emails. I have news for them, DxO doesn't respond to me either. They haven't answered an email from me in at least over a year, maybe two. I have no idea what their deal is but I do know that they need to improve their customer service.

@@AnthonyMorganti My dealings with DXO got way more ridiculous than just no email replies. At one point I was told by a DXO main company employee that I should "create a thread on the forum" (which is run by a separate part of the company) in order to try and get a reply from the support folks and that it was "a limitation of our software" that I could not delete an account. It was bizarre.

@@AnthonyMorganti Hey Anthony, I'm no DXO apologist but they have always replied to me promptly. However I must admit they do sometime come unstuck when upgrading software BUT it has always been sorted within the day. I've thought about dropping the software since LR got its act together but there's no doubt DXO does a great rendering job for Sony and the denoising is top quality. Silver Effects is also great.

Exposure 7 is still a great product that will catch on based on the cost of many others; you might want to revisit that decision. Great idea on DXO; nothing really innovative there. I am 69 (but not retired) and I switched away from Adobe a few years ago. I chose Affinity Photo as my Photoshop replacement. At first I found the interface a bit 'quirky' because I was so used to 20+ years of Photoshop but that passes quickly. Affinity is really gaining traction in the market and now plugins from folks like Topaz and others work really well with it.

Now authentication says I'm in trial mode and I need to buy Neo, which I just bought. Their sign-up page is a mess. I may just file a complaint with my bank & get a refund if I can't get the purchase fixed or refunded.
