Sam CabinTalk was first seen in the current generation Honda Odyssey Also, the engine used in the Pilot is a new engine, it dropped iVTEC in behalf of DOHC. Honda says it’s more environmentally friendly vs the old one
The engine is new for Pilot, related to the engine in the MDX. For starters, this engine is DOHC versus SOHC in the 2022 model. If you see a pic of them side by side, you can see it is a completely new engine.
Test drove one of these, the steering is so good that it does not feel like you are driving a big suv. Compare to my 2018 Murano which is smaller but steers like a big suv.
There's something I have to say about the previous generation Pilot... It had the absolute most uncomfortable second row seat! The floor was so high that I felt like I was in a subcompact. At 5'11" there was no comfortable place for my feet to relax in. I've had the privilege of testing out a lot of vehicles from the backseat, and if Honda didn't solve that in this next version, I might never buy another Honda (ok, besides my 1982 Honda Accord special edition with upgraded stereo, back in 91 haha)
I can’t wait for the new Passport TrailSport. I don’t need a family sized car or an extremely capable off road vehicle, so the Passport is perfect for me.
Great review! Why is no body talking about the fact that there are no arm rests in the captain's chairs setup after the center seat of the middle row is removed... wouldn't that be very uncomfortable??
Sold kias. Now sell Hondas. The telluride top trim level feels more upscale. If you have kids get the Honda tho. Kids will ruin to suede roof in the telluride. The Honda exterior is better looking honestly. More rugged but also refined. Better ergonomics inside. Interior materials are close. Honda build quality inside is better though. The kia has ventilated 2nd row and heated 3rd row. Nice touch! Kia warranty is longer. But that 3.5 in the Honda is rock solid! And I’d trust the Honda long term though. PERSONALLY I’d choose the Pilot. But if you don’t have kids and want a more luxury style interior and contemporary exterior the telluride is a good option. If you like the rugged, symmetric look, great build quality, and a phenomenal engine go with the Pilot!
Has anyone noted any drive difference between the trail sport with its higher volume tires vs the other models with their comparatively lower profile tires?
That small baby screen compared to the screen in the New Accord makes no sense. Do the mirrors fold in like the telluride. Heated And ventilated 2nd row and a heated 3rd row?
Y'all can debate about whether the Pilot is better than the Korean rivals, the Grand Highlander, and Pathfinder all you want. But what I can confidently say is this: it's undisputedly better than the refreshed versions of Atlas and Ascent.
@@EscapeFPs the older version of Atlas was decent. But the new Atlas is an absolute downgrade. The new buttonless interface is unergonomical. VW promised to bring back buttons, but the Atlas refresh (and Tuoareg refresh and ID3 refresh) were unveiled after that announcement, and none lived up to that promise. This would be like if Honda announced an emergency refresh for the 9th gen Civic, and waited until 2015 to unveil the refresh.
I cant believe a three year old Palisade is still better looking (exterior and interior) and has more tech features than this "all new" Pilot. The front on this new Pilot is semi-acceptable and the rear is just awful. You definitely need to go to an Acura to get any decent design features from Honda. The Palisade Calligraphy edition for $51k is still the absolute best value for your money.
The button behind the second row lateral seats seem to open the seats with a lot of force. Doesen't that seem dangerous if there is a kid sitting down there? 6:30
No. Toyota offered it before Honda in their 2015 Sienna’s and Highlanders. Hyundai equus long wheel base editions sold in South Korea had it even before that.
i couldn’t sleep last night thinking on what to get Toyata Highlander lol but im more like this 8 seater Honda Pilot with removable seat at the 2nd row.
Love the review, good job. I like the new Pilot a lot, but i will probably go for the Toyota Grand Highlander, since the Pilot won‘t come as a Hybrid. For a family car, fuel efficiency is very important.
But the turbo 4 and hybrid powertrains of the grand highlander will not be as reliable as the NA 6 cylinder in the pilot. You have to choose between better fuel efficiency or better long-term reliability.
Nah but I'm going for the pilot cause I need the Horsepower and the 6 cylinders we are already getting another hybrid which is a RAV 4 Turbo's aint gonna be very reliable especially that engine from the tundra and the new Toyota highlander.
Just so you guys know, the Toyota hybrid system in all Asian vehicles except Kia are made by Toyota, Nissan used Toyota’s transmission with the hybrid system and not sure but I think Honda is using their transmissions just the hybrid system , Mazda is using Toyota Hybrid system in their new CX-9 Anyone can correct me if I’m wrong tho

Rip both, the Honda mpg is ultra horrible. For that I would buy a full size truck and still uses less gas. They can also shove their timing belt way deep there.
I’d take a Honda over Kia/Hyundai any day. My wife wanted to trade in her grand Cherokee as our kids are getting older and 3 rows would be awesome. We looked at the Subaru Ascent , Infiniti QX60 , Hyundai Pallisade and Dodge Durango. We test drove all of them and she settled on the Pallisade because for the money it had way more tech and comfort. We put $10k down and had to wait until Monday to secure financing from our bank , we went to pick up the SUV and we’re told we had to wait until they could remove and replace the factory installed trailer wiring because of fire risk and they also had a recall to replace the gauge cluster and a technical service bulletin on the steering . If this pilot was the last gen then the new gen in 2023 would’ve been revolutionary… it’s not bad. It’s great but late to the party and more strain for buyers due to markups and shortages.
I was actually very disappointed with this Pilot after seeing it in person. I'd actually pick the Telluride over it, and looking forward to checking out the Grand Highlander once it hits the streets.
I felt the opposite. It felt more cramped and smaller, the steering was stiffer, the controls felt more intuitive. Honda provided more features for less. And then there’s the legendary Honda reliability compared to KIA’s. In the end, even my kids liked the Honda more.
You can tell that people in Honda were working from home... This brand new updated Pilot is still behind in tech and styling to the 3.5 year old Koreans...
It has nothing to do with popularity and everything to do with production numbers. Hyundai/Kia were producing significantly less and that has since been increased but still not to the level of VW and Toyota. The waiting lists and price gouging speak more to popularity than the sales numbers.
Man it’s hard to like this Pilot. Just seems like a weird mish-mash of different SUVs. Part Traverse, part Durango. Just not distinct and cohesive enough like the Telluride is to be able to set it apart. Every part, every curve of the Telluride just works together whereas Gen4 Pilot just looks like the different parts of the car don’t go together. Honda made a mistake with Gen3. They should have just modernized the squared off look of Gen2.

This new Pilot is the word "blah" in automotive shape.
mmm that engine actually is new if you do your research you'll see they redesigned it
It's gotten big .
If this pilot was the last gen then the new gen in 2023 would’ve been revolutionary… it’s not bad. It’s great but late to the party and more strain for buyers due to markups and shortages.
More concerned about Mark ups, as for availability, even if it takes 6 months, it will arrive and we all drive something so we can wait
I can't afford $4-$6 gallon gas + city driving! It's 2023 - why isn't this available as a hybrid?!
That's not a city car.
Need an hybrid system
I think the only area Pilot can beat Telluride is just the number of cup holders!
RIP E-honda. I never seem any Pilot.
Wow! Looks like the 2002 Honda Passport 🔥
I dont understand how Honda put out a great next gen Pilot yet screwed up so badly on the next gen 2023 Accord 🤦♂️
The palisade and Telluride aren’t even that popular in Canada I see way more VW Atlas and Toyota Highlanders
It has nothing to do with popularity and everything to do with production numbers. Hyundai/Kia were producing significantly less and that has since been increased but still not to the level of VW and Toyota. The waiting lists and price gouging speak more to popularity than the sales numbers.
Telluride all the way, baby. This Honda's back is like a bee's belly
Shit this pilot is lit asf tho
Man it’s hard to like this Pilot. Just seems like a weird mish-mash of different SUVs. Part Traverse, part Durango. Just not distinct and cohesive enough like the Telluride is to be able to set it apart. Every part, every curve of the Telluride just works together whereas Gen4 Pilot just looks like the different parts of the car don’t go together. Honda made a mistake with Gen3. They should have just modernized the squared off look of Gen2.
Did they forget about the Nissan Pathfinder
Chevy Traverse meets Jeep Cherokee
Gen2 still far the best body from all Pilots!!
This engine is not the same as its predecessor, before is SOHC vtec and now DOHC non vtec
Who’s said it’s the same? I said similar just tuned differently.
@@SamCarLegion to quote you, "Now this V6 is not really new, it's the same as the previous gen." This is wrong, as it's a completely new design as stated above. DOHC non VTEC vs SOHC VTEC for the previous J series. Nice review overall but just pointing that out!
@@SamCarLegion similar but still different.
