The fact that the dish feels a little too rich is exactly what the judges said on the show, so seems like you nailed it, after all this is the losing dish of that Shokugeki.
if she just made regular white rice i’m pretty sure she might’ve won but she went overboard.
@@wadewilson3309 Maybe, but then Yukihira would have been the only one with different rice and it might have highlighted her reliance on quality meat above all else even more.
@@the_senate8050 thats true but some things just need to go basic on so that they dont clash in ways you dont want them to.
i'm pretty sure he is exactly referencing that especially after he said he want something sour
@@wadewilson3309 Probably not. The plain rice would have been lost in the wagyu. In fact, most people that have eaten A5 have said that it's immensely rich, which makes eating even a decent amount a challenge.
It's funny how alvin mentioned that it needed acid to cut through the fattiness of the dish because that's exactly the problem with it as to why nikumi lost. She was too arrogant with the dish believing that the quality of the meat itself is enough to give her that win. But yukihira came in and gave that acidity with the umeboshi he put into his rice and mopped the food war with a unanimous win with his convenience store half off chaliapin steak rice bowl. Food is fun. Lol
pretty sure that is intentional
@@oldcowbb if it was intentional, he would've mentioned it. 🙄🙄
@@hyunakiro how do you know. might have not mentioned it intentionally.
@@muzosh bruh it's food. It ain't that deep. Y'all reaching with your conspiracies lol
@@hyunakiro he prob just forgot that moment, cool how accurate the show is to real life tho
We all took a nap shortly after this.
I would imagine so
Fun Fact: In the creation of Food Wars the mangaka worked closely with a famous chef named Yuki Morisaki, who helped with making sure the stuff was realistic to make aswell as delicious. She is also the author of the official Shokugeki no Soma recipe book.
*opening Amazon*
The what now?
Wait, that's a thing? I need to look into this.
I believe there's a point in the series where she stops consulting on the series, and you can *reallllllly* feel it, something is lost when the dishes don't make sense!
@@superfrontman Why i have the feeling that is in "Gou no sara"...
The problem with the Anime is she says 64c for temperature but then you see it on screen and it looks medium rare.
When I did this I cooked the entire roast to 100f/37c because I wasn't about to waste a $700 cut of beef.
Butter also absolutely ruins the flavour, it's not overkill it's plain wrong.
Yay chefpk throwing his facts
Loved your episode.
why not coward
Medium well or well done ain't bad for Wagyu
Every dish in general from Food Wars tend to be mouth watering, this one especially drives me insane, I need to try wagyu sometime in my life.
juan.
As a guy who's cooked with rice, I feel like that's gotta be one case where its a bit overdoing things, I now get why the wikia states her character development is not relying on just quality meat.
I have a local walmart in a poor part of town that carries Wagyu for some reason. Got a pound of Wagyu hamburger patties marked down on their sell-by date. Was delicious.
@@juan.6008 no way juan!
@@dwmlue9299 i guarantee that it wasnt a fullblood kobe breed, you need to try high quality wagyu if you have the opportunity again
Being familiar with some of the fails in this channel, I had a mild panic seeing Alvin hold the bowl in one hand outdoors at 5:05. I genuinely thought the bowl would fall and the wagyu would be wasted
I was waiting for a random bird to come swoop in.
Saaaaame
I was expecting flies
I felt genuine panic.
I had the same fear! so glad it survived
Glad to see Food wars recipes done more on this channel.
they should force Babushka watch it and embrace every dish and try to larp anime reactions
At some point, they're going to have to go all in on the anime cooking shows.
Food Wars is a deep well that they can draw from for a very long time. Can’t wait to see some of the dishes from the last portion of the show start popping up, the ones with claw knives and sword graters.
Lol, when Anime with Alvin started, it was heavy on the Food Wars stuff to begin with, because it was such an obvious choice.
I agree with nightriser, i feel like Food Wars is a super easy cop-out, and i'd like to see other shows get represented. Especially the classic trope of bad anime food, like Otosaka Ayumi of Charlotte's Pizza Sauce French Toast.
"I have this uncle who really likes fried rice..." perfect reference
Hats off to Alvin for doing a show-accurate version of Shokugeki no Soma dish. That said, the subtle reference to Nigel’s most well known character is a wonderful way to round out the show.
I remember watching that episode of Food Wars, Ikumi Mito (Meat-meat) made a delicious dish, sure, but she missed the basic point of rice bowls 🍚, where it's cheap, simple and delicious, all in one bowl, plus her A5 Wagyu beef simply overpowered the fried rice itself, too.
Huh. That kind of reminds me of the Ram-Don from Parasite. Taking something simple and cheap and adding in an expensive ingredient that proves unnecessary.
I think Uncle Roger can appreciate you making the distinction between rice dishes.
I think he *was* making a reference to Uncle Roger when he said that.

Thats why I loved food wars. They showed you can use all the high quality ingredients you want but if you dont respect them (the wrong temp and lack balance in the dish) you will loose to steak Champlain!
It's a general principle that the best of the best can make the best of the worst. Most people can follow directions and make something nice, so long as nothing goes wrong, but it takes real depth of knowledge to figure out how to either fix the problem or vault over it to make it even more incredible.
did try this recipe and have to say, Yukihira's recipe really crushes this by a wide margin. his recipe has become one of my favorite go-to recipes and would love to see you guys make that recipe as a response to this !
can I get a link to the recipe?
@@somerandomguy9868 same plss
@@sureindubitably3771 Look up Soma's Rice Bowl (chaliapin steak).
It's also WAY less expensive than buying a block of wagyu.
I didn't use the pickled plumb rice, but I have tenderized steak using onion. It definitely gave me a very tender steak. I even tried it with chicken and the onions practically turned it to mush.
Please make Jessie's Pokepuff from Pokemon episode, "Performing with Fiery Charm"

Tbh, I was kinda hoping he’d do Yukihira’s recipe from that episode, where he takes a half off lower quality steak and makes Chapalin Steak with Umeboshi Rice.
Yeah, Alvin should make Chaplin Steak Don from that same episode whenever he gets the chance. No Rush.
How easy is it to get pickled plums?
@@spinylightgaming As easy as getting plums, finding out how to pickle them and then doing so. :p

Could probably eat like 10% of this before giving in. A5 is just super decadent and will make you sick after like 5 slices of it. It's almost like eating chunks of beefy butter but man is it rich and delicious while you're at it.
Sounds like quitter talk
@@belthesheep3550 100% is
I've never tried it before, I hope I get the chance to someday. I'll keep that in mind though, I've never heard anyone say they weren't able to finish a wagyu steak lol
@@elaboratedreamer Usually they're not serving you that amount of wagyu, it'd be like eating a tub of lard. A few slices or a decent-sized steak is enough. There's no food worth dying for (as a lot of people hyperbolize) but real A5 wagyu is insanely delicious.
This screams to be a sharing plate for somewhere from 6-12 people depending on what else is going on with the event. (I mean, why would you get steak of this quality if you aren't showing off?)
Maybe pair it with a tart beverage to cut the richness rather than putting it in the dish itself. A throwback to the late "before times" with kombucharita would work (High quality citrus flavored kombucha, decent tequila or mezcal and less ice than most American cocktails. A ginger lime kombucha and garnishing with a lime wedge and Thai basil should balance the experience with a sweet and tart effect. Cut your salt with MSG to rim half the glass if you have an uncle with an orange polo shirt in attendance.)
Totally agree about Wagyu sometimes being "overrated."
It's so rich & fatty, that it can kind of hurt your stomach to eat like a regular cut of steak. Thin slices with something else are great, but even then you can see it helps to have something else added (stronger than rice) to balance it out.
the richness and fattiness was the reason this dish lost against yukihira so it's to be expected since alvin recreated it the same way
The thing I love the most about Food Wars is that even the runner up dishes look mouth watering.
I wish they had gone with the winning dish which had ingredients we could afford
@@asianmalaysian patience my friend, they will get to it eventually
I feel like some type of light yuku ponzu sauce lightly drizzled over the meat would've been a beautiful touch on the second version 🤩
Anything acidic would probably save this dish both in the show and irl
That oh-so subtle nod at Uncle Roger, made my day!!
Well… garlic fried rice is something we do a lot here in the Philippines. No breakfast is complete without it - well, no breakfast rice meal, at least. No parsley though. :D
I would use green onions instead of parsley. Another body of texture added to the rice.
Well garlic fried rice originited in philippines

I definitely recommend everyone who loves steak, to try wagyu at least once. But that being said, for all the hype, it's definitely a "Oh, that was cool, but I'll probably never do it again" thing. It's also so rich, that a thin steak is hard to finish by yourself, or even with a friend.
Personally I find wagyu to be really, really overrated. Definitely isn't worth the price.
I found it bland. Super rich, fatty and tender, but the beef flavour was just so underwhelming, it was kind of like chewy butter.
@@masonmario495 There IS such thing as too much marbling. I'd rather chew a little bit more through a leaner cut than drown in melted beef tallow
@@adamuffoletto7869 Having tried it I was forced to use the rest in a stir fry because it was SO rich it was actually making me sick to eat by itself.
I don't like wagyu. Period. If you ask me to choose wagyu steak or supermarket steak, I will gladly chose the latter.
I think the rose pound cake from yuimero patisserie would be cool to see!! I wanna know if the technique with rose water actually works
I want to see you make any food from Fire Emblem Three Houses anime game like Sweet Bun Trio or Pheasant Roast with Berry Sauce
No
Has there been any episodes of Anime with Alvin where he improves the recipe? Because I feel like he could do that with Senku’s soda from Dr.Stone.
Any food recipe from Dr. Stone is going to be lit because imagine recreating food with ONLY post-apocalyptic ingredients like Senku did.
Well, the biggest issue with senku cola isnt the carbonation. In fact, that they didnt have sugarcane and only specific sugars available and then to reach to the mix he had to use cilantro to even out the flavors is kinda amazing. Heck back in olden times Beet sugar especially in Europe was one of the main sugars they had and honey was one of the other widely available sweeteners they had. Cane sugar would be the most useful in this drink but relies on being close to China or India for availability.

I just started rewatching Food Wars this weekend. Great show.
Being from Trinidad and Tobago, "Roti" means a whole different thing here. 😅

2:26 a moment of ages.
Wok? Day old rice? Uncle Roger approves.
I love that Alvin has really come into his own as his own variety of Babish, rather than derivative of Babish like he was at the start. You can hear his confidence in every word.
Why make Sweet Meats failed Rice Bowl when you could make her better Rice Bowl where she respects the entire Bowl instead of just the Meat
I really love how much public love Whole team gets. It really makes me confident supporting this channel knowing that it’s not just the people in front of the camera who get respect and gratitude for their work.
Soma’s version of the Donburi was my first “gourmet” style dish I ever made. It was delicious and took me four hours, and will forever be one of my favorite dishes. I’d love to see you make it, or some variation, even though it is pretty similar to this one.
Uh, yeah, no joke it’s too rich along with the rice and could use some acid. That’s why it *lost* and the bowl that was bargain sirloin with pickled plum in the rice won.
"it's just a feeling I've got

For the next episode of Anime with Alvin,i think the castella from Tatami Galaxy would be perfect.
Food Wars isn’t the only food based anime one could use!!! Two others I know of are called Restaurant to Another World and Isekai Izakaya
The Acidic you are missing is the yogurt sauce. Red-Rock in Japan has been doing this much longer than this anime has existed.

that shout-out to Uncle Roger -- yessssssssss, love that!~ xD
Next up, the Chaliapin Steak Don, and a comparison

Why did it take me so long to realize that Alvin was not only cooking, but also doing the voiceover
I’m more than halfway into the video-
"i have this uncle who really like fried rice"
Yeah that gotta be uncle roger
Suppose you need the balance of acidity along with the wagyu, you'd want a condiment called "Yuzu Kosho", made from Yuzu citrus, chilis, and salt. It's citrusy and spicy, and it balances well with the meatiness and sweetness of wagyu. Japanese steakhouse will sometimes serve your steak with a dollop of that alongside wasabi on the side
Uncle Roger would be proud of nephew Alvin.
Alvin: I have an uncle who really likes fried rice...
Me: FUIYOH!
1:30 the moment my heart broke. A blackened A5 Wagyu steak 😭
Nice edit, she was about to have a foodgasm 🤣.
I just decide to rewatch Food Wars like 2 days ago, suddenly this pops out.
Somebody get this boy Alvin a glass of wine!
Kimchi would've been a beautiful thing to accommodate with the dish
When alvin said I have a uncle who really likes fried rice he was referring to uncle Roger 🤣🤣🤣
Does anyone remember an OVA(?) episode of Attack on Titan where they had a similar food competition? One team killed a legendary boar and prepared the most legendary cut of meat, and they lost to a well-made omelette. I remember balance/completion being one of the main points in regards to the result. However, it’s been years since I’ve seen it, so please let me know if this is right.
Food wars knows exactly what they were doin wit nikumi testing meat temp on her lips😏🤣
i want to join the babish team solely to eat the food, not professionally rating it, just eating the food
Man, I can't believe I've slept on Anime with Alvin until now, this is AWESOME! Though I wish you did the Chaliapin steak don, too.
anything from food wars would be great for this channel tbh
3:31 aka The Man in the Orange Polo 🤣
That anime is a trip, its pretty much teens making food and making everyone cream themselves
I know nothing of this quality of meat but to be honest i prefer the more "cooked" visually probably for eating as well. Both look very beautiful in the end.
Finally an Alvin episode that I like
Alvin really asked for a second steak so he could bring more scraps home - genius
I think we all know who that uncle at 3:27 is 😁
Scp 5031 makes an interesting thanksgiving dinner for its staff. Maybe you guys could do that for thanksgiving?
3:26 Uncle Rodger.
I don't dislike Alvin, but I am concerned about the lack of Babbish in recent videos... Also not accusing Alvin of murdering Babbish, simply concerned that he's not coming back.
... Did you not have any lemons or limes to drizzle over it? I mean your second one was your improved route, just serve some wedges on the side.
As he took the bowl outside I expected a seagull to grab the bowl xD
Food Wars is always a win. With the exception of some of the later episodes, the food is on point.
