A month ago, I binge watched the Beverly Hills Cop Movies for the first time in anticipation for this movie. Just finished watching Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F (2024) an hour ago and I had a blast with this movie and I'm giving it an 8/10.
Honestly thats the tome they should add to the rest of the movies from nowo n. Its just the tone setter for Beverly hills cop from now on. The music and themes. Esp The song Shakedown.
I hate most legacy sequels, but this was pretty good and far better than the 3rd movie. It's a nice send off for these characters. I know he's like 85 but I wish we got a Ronny Cox cameo. I would still give it like a 7/10
Christopher MacDonald was playing golf in this movie, as Netflix is working on Happy Gilmore 2. They might connect the two franchises with just a small line in HG2
Huge fan of the "Beverly Hills Cop" movies & grew-up watching them. But I must say I'm pleasantly surprised when I heard about this movie, I had no idea it was being made !
I thoroughly enjoyed this film. A very solid 7.5/10. A great return to form considering it was a netflix project. I'm so glad this wasn't a dumpster fire. Many franchises have awful entries and this isn't one. 😁
Im glad to hear this is pretty decent. Wish this would've came out around Dolemite Is My Name. Eddie Murphy was great in that and that could've had him on a roll.
I just watched it today. It felt so much like the 80’s and mid 90’s classics. Same feel, I didn’t feel like it was a different movie just called Beverly Hills cop. Luv how they added the old nostalgia music to it, and I stay entertained throughout the 2 hours.
I was on the fence about this one, but I found that I agree with 98% of your take on stuff so I’ll give this movie a shot. Also, that’s an awesome shirt you have there. Very underrated album in my opinion. 🤘🏻
The third one was also my favorite and its so glad to have that validated lol. I'm really excited to sit down and watch this. This, to me, was one of his shining moments in his career. This character.
Part 3 was also my favorite as a kid and after years of not seeing any of these movies, I saw parts of 3 from tv a while back and was still having a great time with it. It's so nostalgic for me now. That annoyingly catchy wonderworld song still plays in my head from time to time. 😁 Glad to hear this new one might be better than I feared!
Officially excited to watch this on the weekend. Thank you! I also liked Beverly Hills Cop 3 more than most. Quite a few big laughs. And I didn't even know Levitt was in this - he's always great.
I also don’t mind the third one. One of my favorite scenes in the whole series of films is when he props up the body and points with it, and says, “He went up those stairs”
Don’t know what you think Cody but I’m getting a feeling now that audiences are beginning to show more hunger for some of these old school type blockbusters - you know these Jerry Bruckheimer produced films or films of that ilk that are throwbacks to simpler times of the 80s and 90s, like Top Gun Maverick and Bad Boys and now this. I think a portion of the audience seems to be getting tired of the way modern blockbusters are produced.
This is one of my most anticipated movies of this year. First two are some of my all time favorites. Excited about most of what you said, but it’s a huge bummer that Reinhold and Ashton aren’t co-leads
@CodyLeachYT as far as villains go which do u think was better after watching BHC:AF 🤔 Ellis DeWald or Kevin Bacon's character ( Im assuming he is the villain & no I havent seen Beverly Hills Cop Axel Foley)
Just finished watching this. It was actually quite good! It definitely was a hell of a lot better than Cop 3. There were a lot of call backs to the other films and it was nice to be able to recognize them. Not bad at all!
They should've team up Axel & joseph Gordon levitt since the beginning of the movie. They got great chemistry. And Rosewood should've join the team sooner
If they had taken out a few of the car conversations with the daughter and matched the music with what's happening on screen it would have been really good I think. It still beats 2 and three for me definitely.
I agree with almost all of this review. I also love Beverly Hills Cop 3 and grew up with it. I thought the comedy was there in this movie. The action was fun. The soundtrack was biblical. I couldn’t have cared less about the relationship with Axel Foley and his daughter. It totally bogged down parts of the movie. I don’t even think she was needed other than to be the excuse for him to go back to Beverly Hills. All of those extra scenes should’ve just been with Eddie and JGL.
The daughter is easily the worst part of the movie. Not only is she estranged from her father, but she's estranged from her boyfriend as well. So there's 2 identical plot points that eat up WAY to much screen time. A tighter script could've eliminated her completely. Axel goes back to Beverly Hills because Billy disappears after uncovering evidence of corrupt cops. There's your plot. No need for the daughter or her subplot of proving some gang banger innocent. Instead have more scenes of Murphy irritating Kevin Bacon, as is the nature of his character to do that. But with the daughter, the movie is at least 20 minutes too long, but feels like more because she derails it every time she's on screen. It's an ok movie. Not nearly as good as the first 2 but not nearly as bad as 3.
Ok loved the movie but QUESTION? Do you think the the helicopter scene with the Rotor being shot out and then crashing was dig at John Landis? First thing i though of when it i seen it.
I agree with the daughter thing. Dialogue throughout was a bit wonky from everyone, and I thought maybe they talked a bit much. As for the music, I kind of wished that they would spread out the big three, one for each act, Shakedown during the box truck would have killed. Otherwise, I really liked the film and thought there were enough scenes that really had that BHC feeling. And Eddie was fantastic dropping into this role, and even some modern commentary but with Axels sensibilities was hilarious.
i got a early screener for maxxxine cody !!! excited to see your thoughts on this one i’m about to watch it hopefully it’s as good as pearl atleast because idk if it can live up to X been hearing mixed things abt it if it’s even a sliver of good as x or pearl this is going down as one of the best horror trilogy’s in film imo edit without giving spoilers - some will not like this movie as much as X however people who want to see a 80s style kia goth horror film that ties into X without feeling like X will love this movie i can see people getting bored with this one if not invested but i can also see this as a cult classic like x and pearl , final thoughts i loved it as much as X mia goth still shines and is amazing as ever but i can see some people not loving this one and being disappointed but i can say imo this is the best trilogy in horror for me hands down i loved it ❤🖤 minor disappointment with it is who ends up being the night stalker i won’t do spoilers but i thought a particular character from another show should have been the night stalker since he looks just like him like it’s insane still great movie hope you enjoy it cody !🤘
I watched it last night and agree with most of your thoughts. It was a bit too nostalgia heavy for me. Had this come out around the time of The Force Awakens, it probably would have landed better for me but in 2024, I'm kind of over shameless nostalgia bait. I love the soundtrack for those first two movies, but that first 15 minutes was just shamelessly calling back to the opening of the first two movies and it felt kind of cheap to me. I liked the storyline between Axel and his daughter and most of his scenes with Joseph Gordon Levitt were good. "94...not your finest moment" 😂. I also really liked Kevin Bacon as the villian. I've never hated the third movie but it's clearly the weakest in the franchise. I liked this one a little more than that but it's still nowhere near as good as the first two. Still, I was expecting this to be a lot worse so I can't really call it a disappointment. I enjoyed it enough and will probably watch it again.
I watched i give it a 7/10. This one was to wrote the wrong from tne throd film 1994. 1 and 2 are and will go down as iconic. 1,2 and 4 are my obvious one's
It wasn’t bad but in the world of the movie Axel has been a cop for 46 or 47 years and Taggart has been a cop for over 50 yrs. Realistically Officers serve 30-40 yrs and 35-40 is pushing it. Most Officers retire after 25-30 yrs of service.
That wet blanket character was also in the classic Uncle Buck (1989). He was the fun loving uncle and his eldest niece contiually poo poo'ed on everything he said and did throughout all of their exchanges until the end of the 3rd act when he finally won her over and she became nicer to him and her family in general. We've seen that bad attitude character before in comedies. It's not a new trope. It's been around for decades.
The difference is the battle of wills between Buck and Tia is the entire point of the movie. It’s also where the best comedy in the movie derives from. No comedy comes from Axel and his daughter’s tension.
Yea the 5th film is being written Eddie said. But i also sent and idea to Jerry Bruckhiemer for the 5th My idea had Taggart ,Rosewood and Axel working together again. To find out whos this new big bad villians son that just got out of prison. Targeting them and their familys. And kidnapped Janes mother. Which brings Axel back to LA to reunite 1 last time with Taggart and Rosewood to being this New big bad down. And get Janes mother back. What do yall think of that premise? The villian is supposed to be the dark tone of the movie like Max was in bev cop 2. Which makes Eddie the lighter tone to the movie just like bev cop 2.
Eddie Murphy is a living legend. 40 years later the Beverly Hills Cops franchise is still beloved around the world. As a HUGE lover of the '80's I'm so happy to see all this resurgence of the '80's in pop culture over the last 8 years or so with tv shows and movies like Strangers Things and Maxxxine set in the 1980's and movies that came out in the 1980's getting legacy sequels like Top Gun: Maverick, Beverly Hills Cops and the Karate Kid. We got a Bad Boys 4 and a Beverly Hills Cops 4 now all we need is a Rush Hour 4. I would love to see you rank this franchise. This was another good movie review Cody. ❤❤❤❤🎬🎥🎟️🎞️🍿🥤
I think me and you are the only ones that don't hate part 3 lol. I can still enjoy 3 for the Eddie factor. The story for this was cliche and Kevin Bacon was the obvious villian but it was fun. This is the best of the sequels for me but I might need to re watch part 2 again to see for sure. This flick was great fun and all the old actors had there charm again. Only other problem I had was I missed Billy's character he was underused and that was a mistake. I assume the reason why was because they probably felt they needed some young blood to see the movie more. But if they do a 5th I suspect the next one will be the old gang at center stage again like before. This movie almost felt like a testing ground to get the series going again for more sequels to me.
Taylour Paige who played Axel Foley's daughter is a phenomenal actress in many of her projects. Cody you got to understand when a kid is a strange for their parents they kind of have a long grudge especially if you black 😂 jk lol... I so can relate to her character because I'm estranged with my dad who I haven't seen him in a while and we not actually close. I have more of a a close relationship with my stepfather who passed away in 2022. I'm so ready to see this film. This project had being a long awaited and to see Eddie Murphy iconic character again is nostalgic. I heard a lot of positive things about this 4th installment but my only complaint is I wish this was in theaters.
@@CodyLeachYT That's the reason why I appreciate your opinion (sometimes)😂 haha, which is the best enjoyment of your channel over the years. Thank you for this awesome review appreciate it.
I thought it was mid. Eddie was great, and so were the callbacks, but it just wasn't very funny and lacked the energy and fun of the first two. It was better than 3, though. 🤷🏾♂️
And we can be very glad Disney did not get to prison the creative well here. letting this franchise alone to come back and stand on its own again. can't wait to see this. have the 3 pack movie set and moving get OG soundtrack.

The bar for this movie was "be better than Coming 2 America" and I'm glad this sailed over that bar
Oh it did a triple backflip over the bar. Coming 2 America was awful.
Haven't seen that one. But I am content with getting a better movie than Beverly Hills Cop 3.
Yessir. He couldnt do Axel without being old Eddie. Just wouldnt work.
I love when you tell stories about you and your dad. It sounds like he did the best he could and seems to have raised a great person.
Thank you

Great to see Axel Foley back 😊, I'd love to see a Bad Boys and Lethal Weapon Crossover with Beverly Hills Cop, the ultimate cop buddy movie event 😂
I rate JGL. Dude is super likeable, charismatic, and Third Rock From the Sun is a classic.
Third Rock From the Sun was original and fun. Something Hollywood females are incapable of creating. Hollywood is Anti American junk.
Christopher MacDonald was playing golf in this movie, as Netflix is working on Happy Gilmore 2. They might connect the two franchises with just a small line in HG2
The director specifically put Chris in that role because he was Shooter McGavin and he thought it would be a funny cameo.
Really??? Awesome! That means Hubie Halloween is in continuity here too!
No opening skit, that doesn’t happen often
I know it doesn’t

I get it and there's probably a realism to her dynamic with Axel I just found it to be overdone and it drags down the fun of the movie.
I remember noticing Chris Rock in 3, hes got like 1 line
I think it was 3, maybe it was 2
It was 2
@@sameerwafa2943 thanks, its been 20 years since ive seen it 😅
What about Damon Wayans has the banana guy in the first one?
And we can be very glad Disney did not get to prison the creative well here. letting this franchise alone to come back and stand on its own again. can't wait to see this. have the 3 pack movie set and moving get OG soundtrack.
