I am an intermediate Japanese speaker, your videos make up the best review I have ever seen and allows me to download them and listen to them while I go about my daily business, which is making it possible for me to get to Japan ready to communicate! My brother studied languages at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in California. The pace of study was intense. Students had to master the language course in 36-64 weeks. Psychologically it was very difficult, but fortunately he was helped by Yuriy Ivantsiv's book "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign languages”. The book " Polyglot Notes" became a desk book for my brother, because it has answers to all the problems that any student of a foreign language has to face. Thanks to the author of the channel for this interesting video! Good luck to everyone who studies a foreign language and wants to realize their full potential

    Saying はい does not necessarily mean "yes." It can also simply mean something like "I'm listening." This has caused a lot of misunderstanding down the years, when Westerners thought that they had received a definite "yes," when in fact, it could be translated as a colloquial, "Uh-huh," or something similar.

    • @JoytanApp
      @JoytanApp  4 роки тому +2

      @@triciang4363 Hi. It is an error. おながかすいている is correct. 空いている can be read as すいている and あいている depending on the context. The difference is hard to explain even for a native speaker. あいている is more like "empty, vacant, free" while すいている is more like "less heavy". When it comes to hungriness, it is always お腹がすいている (Better to remember on a case-by-case basis. すいている is mostly used to describe hungriness or traffic). I give a few examples to illustrate the differences:
      道が空いている(すいている) = The traffic is light.
      空き(あき)缶 = Empty can
      空いている(あいている)部屋 = a room not occupied
      Somehow advanced topic:
      Japanese is filled with mimetic words. Here, スカスカ and ガラガラ are the mimetic words that decorate the same stuff as あいている/すいている
      ex. ガラガラの部屋 = a room with little/no people/things

      generally when you count days of the month you can say + にち exception to first 10 days and 14th 20th 24th
      in this case it is the 20th day normally you say はつか but you can say にじゅうにち too but it less common than はつか

I found this was good for revision and seeing if there were any words I wasn't familiar with, but not good for drilling and learning a word in the first place. So yeah, pick some words, make your own recording, repeat it until the words flow naturally😂

    Would it be possible to add pitch accent to future videos? That would be great for more advanced learners, especially because even if native speakers are used in audio programs, it is not always easy to determine the pitch accent.

      That's the point, Japanese doesn't have them.

    • @ElfKazuya

      NeonGooRoo Japanese definitely has pitch accents. It’s just not commonly taught unless specifically requested (and the teacher wants and knows how to teach it)

      NeonGooRoo no problem. Accurate pronunciation even on a basic level isn’t included in enough courses, even advanced ones.

    • @neongooroo
      @neongooroo 4 роки тому +1

      @@ElfKazuya I started learning Japanese only 2 months ago and pronounciation is the last thing I think I need to focus on, but I get your point.
      I think you should just achieve it yourself by listening to casual speaking, because when people teach you something they always switch the tone and try to speak a bit slower and more clear.

    14:50 CHICKEN: TORINIKU (とりにく) (‎鶏肉)

    • @JoytanApp
      @JoytanApp  4 роки тому +4

      Yup, both have the same kanji even though とりにく is much popular reading. Kei is onyomi and tori is kunyomi. とりにく is sometimes written in 鳥肉 as well. Literally, 鷄 is a chicken (hen) in specific and 鳥 is a bird in general. Normally, Japanese people eat chicken only and not other birds like a turkey.
      Some examples if you are interested are
      鶏舎 kei-sha, a hen house
      鶏 niwatori, a chike
      庭には二羽鶏がいる, niwa niwa niwa niwatori ga iru. There are two chickens in the yard. (tongue twister)
      焼き鳥 yakitori
      鶏卵 keiran, egg (chicken egg)

    in 7:48 why does it say 'ai' but the hiragana reads 'sui'?

    • @JoytanApp
      @JoytanApp  5 років тому +4

      空いている can be read "ai-teiru (being empty)" and "sui-teiru (being less crowd)". In the case of お腹が空いている (being hungry, lit. my stomach is unfilled), it should be read "sui". Therefore, there remained some wrong behaviors regarding the entry. (Those errors are no longer overlooked in recent videos due to an upgrade of my production system.) The choice of ai-teiru or sui-teiru is very subtle, so extra examples may help. 席が空いている (seki ga ai-teiru, the seat is free = no one is sitting) and 道が空いている (michi ga sui-teiru = the street is empty; the opposite is 道が混んでいてる, michi ga kondeiru = the street is crowded)

      私は 紅茶(tea)とコーヒー(coffee)が 好きです.
      Ga is a subjective maker and the trick here is "suki" is an adjective and not a verb. See more detail here: japanese.stackexchange.com/questions/17857/%e7%a7%81%e3%81%af%e7%8c%ab%e3%81%8c%e5%a5%bd%e3%81%8d-and-%e7%8c%ab%e3%81%af%e7%a7%81%e3%81%8c%e5%a5%bd%e3%81%8d

    I envy the Japanese people how? The smart pretty and strong willed and ambitious and no matter what life throws at them they still stand proud and push on regardless ever developing and helping others and creative people, I knew they were technologically advanced in the world when I was a kid now I’m 40 yr old that was many years ago, when I was .8 years old I was tinkering around with my dads computer and I learned to code hack and broke into the memory bank of my computer or something what I saw then came down like paper split in two and it was like info hightway, I can’t explain it wasn’t like government secrets or anything so we all can relax here, but I whanted to be as smart as the Japanese people and because of that I was the top of my class I’m computing and plb solving solving skills in hightschool, oh and the Shanghai noodles are the best that can be I don’t know how they make it so good but only the Chinese or Japanese can make noodles perfect, sorry I’m not sure where Shanghai is well I do but I’m not sure which part if it’s China or Japan some place. And has anyone how played the sims game noticed that the language or the sims looks a lot like Korean, around that area Japanese, Chinese and Korea had the most adorable kids there baby’s look like little cherubs angels and the men especially wemen are so attentive how do they do it., I love those dark intense eyes there so lovely when they smile there whole face lights up, it seems to melt my heart seeing them smile this will sound weird but it makes me happy seeing them smile.
