For the last entry, while semantically より(yori) ≒ ほう(hou), ほう should have not appeared as hiragana without context.
(This was an error I overlooked in a Wiktionary page I used to make this video: en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Append... even though I fixed many other errors in this.

I have been learning japanese for 178~ days. My study resources are duolingo, oniitan and sometimes chat gpt. I'm happy to report that I know 99% of these vocabularies. So damn proud of my self😅
How many hours a day?
You are so productive! おつかれさまでした!
Wait. How did you use chat gpt to study?
I also use chatgpt it's such a great resource for language learning
@@BokushingusKendoTVu can literally ask:
"give me a beginner japanese lesson"
and even ask specific questions like:
"what is a godan and ichidan verb"
2:08
I would like to explain the weird way of our Japanese counting system because a lot of Japanese learners are curious about it.
ついたち is written as 月立ち(tsuki-tachi).
(to be accurate it’s kanji is 朔日 )
Tsuki means the moon.
Tachi means to stand or to start.
Because Japanese use to use the lunar calendar back then, ついたち means the beginning of the month.(new moon 🌚)
Further more, 三十日 (さんじゅうにち) used be called
みそか, and some religious people who go to Shinto shrine
for their practice call 三十日 as みそか even today. (not popular though)
If you’re interested, following is the old Japanese way of counting basic numbers,
Kun-reading On-reading (Chinese reading)
1 ひと 一 ichi
2 ふた 二 ni
3 み 三 san
4 よ 四 shi
5 いつ 五 go
6 む 六 roku
7 なな 七 shichi
8 や 八 hachi
9 ここの 九 kyu
10 とお 十 ju
11 とお あまり ひと 十一 ← あまり means left over
12 とお あまり ふた 十二
…
20 はた 二十
21 はた あまり ひと 二十一
22 はた あまり ふた 二十二
…
30 みそ 三十
31 みそ あまり ひと 三十一
32 みそ あまり ふた 三十二
…
Since 日(day) is read as ひ (or nichi), counting days
would be as follows
ひとひ 一日 → ついたち (meaning starting day)
No one says ひとひ any more.
ふつか 二日
みっか 三日
よっか 四日
いつか 五日
むいか 六日
なのか 七日
ようか 八日
ここのか 九日
とおか 十日
とお あまり ひとひ 十一日
とお あり ふたひ 十二日
…
はつか 二十日
はつか あまり ひとひ 二十一日
はつか あまり ふたひ 二十二日
…
みそか 三十日
みそか あまり ひとひ 三十一日
みそか あまり ふたひ 三十二日
…
As following the lunar calendar, the very first day is a special day so we Japanese call
一日(ひとひ ) as ついたち.
But since 1873, we Japanese have used the solar calendar adopting to western society, and not many people say
みそか 三十日 any more , because in solar calendar there are 31 days sometimes meaning that みそか is no longer as important as it used to be. (Lunar calendar has ave. of 29.5days)
Conclusion as follows
For those reasons, nowadays we count in a strange way 🤷♂️
1日 ついたち ↓
2日 ふつか
3日 みっか
4日 よっか
5日 いつか traditional way (or Kun-reading )
6日 むいか and very popular way
7日 なのか
8日 ようか
9日 ここのか
10日とおか ↑
ーーーーーーーーーーーーー
じゅういちにち
じゅうににち ← Chinese way (or On-reading )
じゅうさんにち
…
はつか ← easy to say so traditional way,
maybe 🤷♂️
にじゅういちにち
にじゅうににち ← Chinese way (or On-reading)
…
さんじゅうにち (みそか)
さんじゅういちにち ← Chinese way (On-reading)
さんじゅうににち
…
But for 1日〜10日, you still could say
1日 いちにち
2日 ににち
3日 さんにち
4日 よんにち
5日 ごにち
6日 ろくにち
7日 ななにち
8日 はちにち
9日 くにち (or きゅうにち)
10日 じゅうにち
sounds childish though 🤷♂️
Sorry for the loooong explanation 🙇🏻
Thanks ! Very thorough
That's good. Thank you.
Thanks!

Happy you like it!
A great video. Thanks a million
I am kind of a lazy person who doesn't wanna read out loud, so you guys helped me a lot.
The list in the description section of the video does not correspond to this video. They correspond to the N4 video with 585 words.
On a separate note: Thank you so much for your efforts! Your lists are pure treasure!! I appreciate the well-organized collections!!!

My random thought: How about buying a Japanese keyboard and diving into the Japanese internet? (You can type English with a Japanese keyboard as well.) Playing a typing game will be interesting and a little bit educational as well. My favorite one is Sushi-da. typingx0.net/sushida/play.html
Joytan App even Japanese done use Japanese keyboards. I guess some do, but most don’t. They use google IME in most cases and use romaji to create hiragana which in turn era converted into a drop down menu of kanji.
Did you?
頭
Written pronunciation is あたま, but sound is とう. Correct but different readings.
Same for 家. If you write いえ, give reading of it. To differ it from いいえ at least.
Atama was a mistake.
This list is very helpful. Thank you
Thank you very much. Good.
Thank you for the first comment. I now feel rewarded :)
Joytan App your hard work will help me to learn Japanese language. proud of you sirji. Thanks again.
Arigatou gozaimashita
thank you for this list. regarding the writing practice, i heard that only recognition of the kanji is needed for jlpt? like there will be no testing section for how to write these? writing kanji is only tested in the kanji kentei test. can you confirm this?

Very useful video when you learn both of languages Japanese and English.
P.S. I'm from Russia.
great inspirational video...I am surprised knowing still all the words after not speaking japanese for over 10 years having studied up to level 3 about 2000 words and kanji. I should probably pick it up again.
Nice job ! But can i get 40 percent of the language with this video??????
@@theworldsnumber1pokemonmas453 no way, this is only basic beginner n5 stuff
I thought at first N5 was a high level learning words, but I guess it is in Reverse for Japanese lessons. N1 is the high level and N5 is the low level type words phrases.
If I am wrong, let me know. Thanks for the lesson.
Note: I am just a beginner. This lesson is great.
You're right
it indeed is reverse though

I'm not even n5 but knew most of these words and I checked here and there and know many kanjis from other levels, even from n2 too 😅 translating mangas really helps, huh?
Keep it up!
@@JoytanApp thank you so much! It was a helpful video because of the words i didn't know, so I've downloaded it and listen to it while working on other things! Now that i reread my comment, it seems to come off as rude, i honestly didn't mean that! It's a VERY amazing video!!🙏💕
how do you translate mangas if youre not n5 (assuming you mean not n5 yet)? im trying to do the same
@@BobbiHiru uhh how to explain,, 😅💦 i started off with the n5 kanjis like everyone, but after doing some basic ones (like 130 or so) I kinda got bored of uhh just doing easy ones? So I started learning random words left & right, or words that I saw coming up often in actual Jp conversations. This really helped build a good vocab, so i can actually kinda hold conversations with natives & usually understand mangas (provided they have furigana, if not I might be a little lost lol, I ask for help though) but also, it means I still don't know many simple words from n5 level like idk.. word for bank? words that don't come up often, so I never say I'm n5 level. If you're trying to do the same, I suggest starting with basics + read raws (jp ver) of a manga, doesn't have to be in one sitting! You can do it daily, weekly or monthly however you like, just regularly immerse yourself in the language and look up new words that you come across during your read, try memorizing some of them and don't feel disheartened if you can't understand much on your first few tries. Believe me once you get the hang of it, reading through the raws of a chap and understanding all of it without any help would be so worth it ^-^
TLDR; just immerse yourself in the language as much as you can, don't stick to n-whatever levels and try enhancing your vocab with words "more commonly used" instead of "more basic but not commonly used" words and patiently read jp texts every now and then :)
(i didn't mean to go on a rant, i hope this helped even a millimeter!)

Do we need to know the kanji for these in n5?
Yes I think theres 100 kanji an N5 learner needs to know. Most arent too tough, but they do take a bit of memorising
19:43
Do we need to remember the kanji, or just the hiragana?
Both, because there are instances that hiragana words have multiple meanings that’s why people use kanji to be specific
Nanatsu doesn’t just mean 7 it means 7 things as like the other numbers with tsu after it.
I guess they got the English translated from Google
What about other tsu in numbers

一日 i thought this was pronounce as いちにち。then it’s ついたち why?
I think there are mainly two patterns where N日 (N: number) appears.
1. N月N日 = month + date form
2. N日(目, 間 etc) = Day N-th, For N days, etc
There are special readings for the first ten counts (一日 to 十日)
and the special readings of 二日 to 十日 are used for both patterns
but 一日 is read in the special one for only pattern 1.
After 十日, except 二十日, they only have normal readings so that there should be less confusion.
E.g.
十月一日 = じゅうがつ-ついたち = October 1st.
* If you read this じゅうがつ-いちにち, you will sound like an elementary school student ;)
八月の一日目 = はちがつ-の-いちにちめ = The 1st day of August.
* You can't read 一日目 ついたちめ.
九月九日 = くがつ-ここのか = September 9th.
* 九日 should be ここのか instead of く にち or きゅう にち
七月の九日間 = なながつ-の-ここのか-かん = 9 days in July.
*九日間 must be ここのか-かん instead of きゅうにち-かん but くにち-かん also sounds ok.
N-th Special /Normal
@@JoytanApp I didn't ask this question but it makes me happy that u responds so good, god bless u and thanks a lot for these videos 😊
Joytan App I’d probably start reading this as ついたち. My reference for this are all from phone apps, never have encountered this reading so thank you :)
ついたち is specifically for the first day of the month where いちにち is one day. Hope this helps anyone.
