Great video once again! with books I've learnt to only keep the ones I really really like or I know I will re-read, and i visit the library more often, that's helped so much! Now I value my books more and I can let go of stuff more easily (I've sold and recycled more than 50 books in the past month!)
this is my 14th day with you and your videos have changed my life more than others 'cus I'm FINALLY (after several months, actually of helpful videos about minimalism) "GETTING into my daily HABITS" some of the "tips" you suggest, and finalizing my own home to be as minimalist as it can be (still a long way to go though a VERY GOOD START). thanks for ALL your videos!
I gave all my books except the ones I like to reread away to friends, feels good that they're going to get used again. I like the idea of scanning all the non-essential documents, I have a filing cabinet in my lounge room that I only use about 1/3 of the space in it and its soooooo ugly! Motivation!
i know it has nothing to do with this video but i´ve been doing the ab circuit for 3 weeks and my tummy is so TONED! thanks so much , plus i clean my whole desk and got rid of useless things in my lifeTHANKS TO YOU . Love from cancun.
I've been using Cam Scanner since this video came out and I love love love it. I was using Genius Scan which basically does the exact same thing but I like the interface more with Cam Scanner. And I'm definitely the person that checks the mail in my household and throws away the unnecessary items before walking through my front door.
I love this and everything minimalistic but I could never ever live without books..my library is so big that it frustrates me but its alsomy favorite part in my house. a house is not a home without books in my opinion
I am in LOVE with the camscanner app! Since I'm still in school, I have loads of paperworks and stuff. Thanks to the app I can now throw away/recycle loads of paper! It is also helping my Dad that is a paper horder? If that's a word. Haha. Thank you for recommending it! Thank you also for the tips💕
Paper is something I haven't thought of cutting down on, actually! Love the tips for billing, receipts, etc. I never had a good example of that; my parents hoarded all kinds of documents. It was a nightmare to go through! For industrial I actually use quite a lot of paper for sketching. But I can use my tablet to do more digital sketching. And as for books, I love collecting art books (especially video game concept art) as reference material for my work, and that's totally preference. Great video!
Ugh your whole style, your brand, everything is just so thought out and beautiful and effective. I am so inspired every time you upload Rachel, thank you :)! Love from the UK xx
Love your videos! Such a great mix of lifestyle tips. Although you have your own unique style, I feel like everyone can relate with just about all that you post. Thanks, Rachel!
I really like Genius Scan to scan images. It gives you a few organizing/filing options and you can enhance the images so they don't look like photos or print like photos but more like actual documents. You can also save it in different file types for easier transfer between software.
Actually never thought of just taking pictures of receipts before. So simple and efficient! I always just think to myself "Yeah I'll just photocopy it later"... which rarely ends up happening lol.
Nice video. One quick suggestion. This is a tip I heard on another paper clutter video. When you do check your mail and immediately recycle it, it's a good idea to open it up and look inside. Once in a while there will be a check or something important when you least expect it. Blessings!
Evernote is a great app for lists. I have it synced between my computer, phone and tablet. With the web version you can save/clip pages. I've been using it a lot to save recipes so when I am in the kitchen I can pull it up on my phone instead of printing.
I'm a morning person everytime you upload a video. Because of the time differences is like 6 am here, see the notification and just woke up. Jaja. Thanks for the tips, love to hear you :)
Could you do a video on keepsakes? How do you manage to cull things like photo albums or how do you deal with sentimental things like gifts from family members that you like but you know you don't necessarily need. Do you just say bye? lol It's hard for me.
Watched several of your videos and like your approach and just subscribed. Need to watch this one again to go back and grab the names of some of the app recommendations you made--wish you had linked them below as well. (hint, hint) Going to give your Minimalist Challenge a shot. It will definitely take me outside my comfort zone, but you make me feel like I can get by with less.
May 29, 2020 Be well be safe take some each day for pleasure. This is day 22 of my 60 day challenge. Thank you for you video inspirations to become more at ease at home without bumping into unused, un-beauty-full, "hoarding" type objects. (hoard is not a pretty word like the word "lovely" or "nicely" !) Today I began to sort out more art supplies, this time unused colour crayons (a lot of them!) that I gave to a young child "new artist in the making." FELT GOOD TO SHARE.
I have a request! I liked your video but kept focusing on the plants you had nearby 😌I don't know how you'd made an entire video on the subject, but I would love to see all the different plants you have, what they're called, how you take care of them indoors, etc. I only have some outside but I love them and would like to get some inside. I find them so relaxing and calming. Just something I find interesting and I'm always impressed by your plants/flowers. Love your channel!
I love my my house being a bookcase. I think a house isn't a home without books but I read and reread my books so much, it's not so bad that I have so many because I use them so often.
Well I personally love books and want as many as possible. I want my house to be a library because I believe a grand bookshelf in a house, is what can make my place beautiful. I don't spend a lot on books so that's not an issue and neither is having more space. Bookshelves, for me are like works of art :)
Hello Rachel. I really like your minimalist series. Don't you have books for your studies ? Any bookshelf in your apartment ? I'm also in a paperless process but I have a huge volume of stuff to go through ... Hope to see more videos like this one. Thanks
Rachel, I'm so glad you did this video! I was tidying my room the other day and I wondered what Rachel Aust would do with receipts so thanks for answering that. I also wondered, what do you do with all the fiddly things that just seem to always be out and can easily fill up a desk (stray coins, cellotape, etc)?
+LarnieRadek obviously for the stray coins I could get a piggybank, I mean things I need easy access to but I don't want to clutter up my space (unfortunately, I don't have any drawers where I live).
+LarnieRadek Sorry, I'd never seen your desk video... I'm guilty of cluttering your comments section now! I love your series though, keep up the good work :)
Haha that's okay! For stray coins Beau and I have a bowl that we fill up and then we get it deposited into a bank account every now and again, good way to save little bits of money :)
guys....minimalism is not for everyone. I personally am interested and appreciate the video! Made a lot of changes, and will still do because of my lifestyle and apartment size.(It also makes my mind feel organized and balanced) But in the same time I would like a large book case in my home, whenever I will own it.
You can still be a minimalist and have big bookcase :) it's all about keeping only what you need and only what brings you real joy. I have a giant bookshelf of books, but only a small dresser full of clothes, no car, etc. Every minimalist is different!
dont know if youll see this, but i was wondering what font you use for uni notes etc. i know i seems random but i find it so much easier and more enjoyable to study my notes when they are well presented and have a good format/font! thanks so much xx

Thank you for these great tips! I've been trying to minimize the amount of paper coming and going from my house for organizational and environmental reasons =)
My journey to minimalism is going well! Although I can get rid of my books, it's still hard for me so my library is still in my room but it adds a personal touch! Not perfect, but my type :)
For the important docs, it might be best to keep them in a fire proof document safe if possible. They sell fairly small and cheap ones, and if it’s ever necessary, it would definitely pay off.
In college and in the late years of high school The teachers at my schools gave us the option of e-mailing. I don't know what years you teach but that may be an option.
An app you might like : Evernote. A free desktop and phone app that allows you to stock and view pdfs, lists with checkboxes etc... It really helps me in the classroom, in the supermarket and goal lists etc... thanks for your tips !
I'm already doing most of these points except for scanning in my receipts...I'm super lazy and I just recycle or tell them to keep it at the register. LOL. X'D Loving your videos, Rachel!
Love the tips but it's just not feasible to go paperless as a teacher:( I need a printer and use a lot of paper in my job. I also love books a lot and it's much better for your eyes if you read them in hardcopy, but my books are very very well used so I don't feel as bad about having so many of them around. Aha :)
+LoznotSoz Definitely with teaching you'll have more paper around than those who don't teach. But if you're a teacher in college, most people have internet access these days. If your school has an online learning website, you can put the syllabus and whatnot on it. Many of my professors do this and usually I view the documents with my laptop, desktop and cell phone anyways, so I don't end up printing them. Peace :)
I'm currently a relief teacher so I won't be able to do any of that until I get a contract. I'm an early childhood teacher so I teach ages 4 - 9, which uses a lot of paper, especially when students lose everything, so you tend to need to print double of everything. Only good thing is currently pedagogies are straying from using worksheets, which makes my life a little easier.
Yeah, it's pretty bad. I try to plan everything so I can either laminate a sheet and reuse it or we have little white boards so we're not giving out heaps of worksheets. It's crazy how much paper is wasted.
Tips¤ and Apps☆ mentioned in video: ¤ Digitize receipts ☆Cam Scanner - scanning documents (ex: receipts) into computer ¤ Remove printer if possible ¤ Switch to online billing ¤ Keep important documents that are hard to replace / need a physical copy (ex: birth, death, marriage certificates, passport) in a folder and label sections ¤ Recycle mail that's not important / yours before you bring it inside your home ☆Dropbox / Google Docs / Hightail - document storage online ☆Preview (on Mac) / Cudasign (App store) - signing documents ☆Wunderlist - tasks lists ¤ Use eReader instead of physical books ¤ Backup on an external hard drive
I agree with everything in the video, BUT there is no way that I will ever read books on a e-reader. It just doesn't feel right, and with technology today, I think it's important to keep a little bit of our old customs. There is just something special in reading the books
The whole concept is just terrible in my opinion. I adore books, paper books, turning sheets, etc, the experience is better and it does not hurt my eyes :)
+Coraline LTB I used to think the same, I mean I love books's smell and turning sheets (I read around 10 books per months) but since I discovered ebooks I never purchased a paper book again. The three pros of ebooks are you can change the size of the font (very useful if you have bad eyes like me, cause reading paper books gave me a lot of headaches since I had to force on my eyes to read), less clutter if you live in a small place and finally less trees destroyed, at least I hope! :)
I'm like you in that I much prefer books, but I found that when I used an e-reader app on my phone I read significantly faster than a paperback mainly because I could pop out my phone anywhere and read a few pages. E-Reader would be preferable because it kills battery life on phone, but if I have to grab it I'd rather have a real book.
I really need to call all of these companies that continue to send me offers for credit cards and such. Yesterday I shredded a years worth of mail because my husband had is info stolen a couple years back. We've been so paranoid since.
im trying this challenge but its so hard lol can you please do a video on minimizing documents, pictures, videos, instagram/snapchat post from computers, cell phones, and even print outs laying around the house please. my lap top is full of pictures/videos/ documents from back in high school even grade school. I also have all my instagram post on my lap top. I NEED HELP LOL
So minimalists can have super expensive electronics, which can be called "minimal", but selling all your beautiful books because they take space is ok? I thought this was a way of life, not just appearance. I am not a minimalist myself and I could never be, because this kind of life just looks so empty and shallow.
It's about only keeping things around that serve a purpose and bring you joy! I personally identify as a minimalist, but have a big bookshelf of color-coded books because it makes me happy (I read them often) and it's pleasing to my eyes :) every minimalist is different
I personally don't like having lots of books lying around because they get dusty and are annoying to relocate if you move. Also, not every person who is reducing their possessions is the same, some people would keep their books.
+aixagenn keep all your papers in organised files and recycle the ones you wont need again. If its paper that just as exercises or notes, copy them onto your computer so you can refer to them that way. It makes studying a lot neater and stress free too :)
I love your minimalism series. You have truly inspired me to cut down on everything.
Great video once again! with books I've learnt to only keep the ones I really really like or I know I will re-read, and i visit the library more often, that's helped so much! I would love to see a video on keeping your bedroom neat. I've done so much decluttering thanks to your videos.
I just love your Minimalism Series so much
You're videos are so inspiring and refreshing. Thank you for motivating me to begin my journey!
ur minimalism tips save lives !!

I enjoy watching these types of videos!!
Love your videos! Such a great mix of lifestyle tips. Although you have your own unique style, I feel like everyone can relate with just about all that you post. Thanks, Rachel!
Thanks other Rachel 🤗💗
books give such a beautiful cozyness and character to the room. i am so proud of my library and i could never give it up :D
The view from your apartment is stunning!
I really like Genius Scan to scan images. It gives you a few organizing/filing options and you can enhance the images so they don't look like photos or print like photos but more like actual documents. You can also save it in different file types for easier transfer between software.
Love the Minimalism Series!!
I've been waiting for this for soooo long!! The 'cam scanner' tip is so useful, also the online billing one! You never disappoint girl 😘 xx
Thanks lovely! 💕
Super helpful video! The minimalism series are my absolute favourite! Thank you for the tips💜
Actually never thought of just taking pictures of receipts before. So simple and efficient! I always just think to myself "Yeah I'll just photocopy it later"... which rarely ends up happening lol.
Your videos are super unique and I love them 😊😊😊
Great tips and very helpful video series!!
Wunderlist is how I get things done, I just love it!
This is such a good video! Definitely something I didn't see on youtube, ever. Bravo!
Thanks ☺️☺️

Yay where are you from? I usually upload somewhere around 8pm my time :)
I'm from Colombia, LatinAmerica. Here now its 8:17 am :) You are about to sleep, good night Rachel!!!
LOVING this series, your videos are so relaxing!
Thanks miss ☺️💗
Thank you for the tip on cam scanner!👍🏻 Love it!

I love this series so much! Very helpful and relaxing :)
I love the minimal apartment set up! Would you have any tips how to manage a home jewelry business and be minimal on the space used?
Love everything, for the exception of books. I need my books on hand haha, but lovely video! Learned so many neat things❤️
thanks for the vid 😁 I'll give a couple of the apps a go sounds good.

can you please share a video about your wishlist? being an aspiring minimalist I am hooked and love your videos! :)
Love the receipts thing, I always have receipts flying around everywhere so I think I'll start taking pictures of them instead :)
thank you this is soo helpful!
My tip for books is the library! Borrow and return :) otherwise my house would be a book case.
I love my my house being a bookcase. I think a house isn't a home without books but I read and reread my books so much, it's not so bad that I have so many because I use them so often.
+LoznotSoz I agree! Also I see books more as obects, not just as paper, and I like being able to see them.
+LoznotSoz but without books at Home You Got more space
+LoznotSoz I defiantly still have books I reread at home. I read so much that using the library saves lots of money :)
Well I personally love books and want as many as possible. I want my house to be a library because I believe a grand bookshelf in a house, is what can make my place beautiful. Try "Google Keep". It's a great note keeping/list making app!
Super Helpful! Thanks so much! Xx
Great tips. Thanks Rachel. :)
guys....minimalism is not for everyone.
Spot on!
I had to come back to this video because since you mentioned that app for saving my receipts I've been wishing I had it every time I do anything hahah
I haven't had a printer in my house for years :) I could do pretty much anything in your list except for ebooks... I love my books in my shelf.
Great tips 💙💙
dont know if youll see this, but i was wondering what font you use for uni notes etc. i know i seems random but i find it so much easier and more enjoyable to study my notes when they are well presented and have a good format/font! thanks so much xx
Awesome video as always. Just an FYI, thermal paper (receipts) aren't good for recycling and is better just being disposed of because of the BPA in it. Thanks for the tips!
It still blows my mind every semester how they still expect you to purchase text books. Look I understand its an entire industry but there is little reason why they cannot be an electronic version grrr. Loved this video! I am so going to do the receipt thing. have you ever had trouble when trying to claim using an soft copy?
For my nutrition course all the information is digital! It's great. Psych is shit though because the text books are massive!! And really expensive too haha.
As for the receipts, haven't had any problems using a soft copy, they usually just ask me to email it to them
I love your view!!
Nice one! Could you do an organisation video for computer and stuff like that? Thanks a lot!
I've got one :) "Digital decluttering" in the minimalism series
+Rachel Aust ah brilliant. Must have missed it!
For the important docs, it might be best to keep them in a fire proof document safe if possible. They sell fairly small and cheap ones, and if it’s ever necessary, it would definitely pay off.
Can u do a "whats on my mac" video, Rachel? Love your videos! Keep it up!!!
Love your phone case where did you get it from?
do you have any tips for pupils? i get a lot of papers from school and so on
In college and in the late years of high school The teachers at my schools gave us the option of e-mailing. I don't know what years you teach but that may be an option.
Heya! Where did you bought Computer table form? That's exactly what I need.
How do you keep your fig plant alive without brown spots on leaves? Help!
You should try 24me, it's been a life saver for me! So far no complaints!
What is it?
An app you might like : Evernote. A free desktop and phone app that allows you to stock and view pdfs, lists with checkboxes etc... It really helps me in the classroom, in the supermarket and goal lists etc... thanks for your tips !
I've tried Evernote, I didn't like it though :( constantly on the search for the perfect organisation app! Haha
+Rachel Aust todoist is a pretty nice app ..it is like wunderlist but better..you can color code and have multiple notifications :)
Rachel Aust google keep is great!!!
Ths is great. Thanks for the share!
Should I use white/cool lights or warm ones? (I mean bulbs)
Daniel Vila personally white cool ones look very clinical - like a hospital or supermarket. But it’s up to your personal preference
Try todoist for a todo app.
hi, maybe it is is a stupid question. I like the signing app but couldn't they steal your sign?
I'm already doing most of these points except for scanning in my receipts...I'm super lazy and I just recycle or tell them to keep it at the register. LOL. X'D
Loving your videos, Rachel!
I have to keep records for the business, if I didn't need receipts I would gladly not bring them home hahah
Can someone please tell me what the music in the background is?
Have you ever heard of a list app called MinimaList? It's amazing and so simple 😍
Love the tips but it's just not feasible to go paperless as a teacher:( I need a printer and use a lot of paper in my job. Tips¤ and Apps☆ mentioned in video:
¤ Digitize receipts
☆Cam Scanner - scanning documents (ex: receipts) into computer
¤ Remove printer if possible
¤ Switch to online billing
¤ Keep important documents that are hard to replace / need a physical copy (ex: birth, death, marriage certificates, passport) in a folder and label sections
¤ Recycle mail that's not important / yours before you bring it inside your home
☆Dropbox / Google Docs / Hightail - document storage online
☆Preview (on Mac) / Cudasign (App store) - signing documents
☆Wunderlist - tasks lists
¤ Use eReader instead of physical books
¤ Backup on an external hard drive
I am obsessed with organization/minimalist lifestyle! Am I alone? haha
hey, whats The name of that signing APP again?
Cristina Benzahra Cudasign (App Store) / Preview (Mac)
I agree with everything in the video, BUT there is no way that I will ever read books on a e-reader. It just doesn't feel right, and with technology today, I think it's important to keep a little bit of our old customs. There is just something special in reading the books
but do stores accept pictures of receipts?
Yeah I've never had a problem, they just need proof of purchase
e reading instead of books? no thank you :D
+Coraline LTB Why not?
The whole concept is just terrible in my opinion. I adore books, paper books, turning sheets, etc, the experience is better and it does not hurt my eyes :)

you are smart
Where is that folder from?
I bought mine at Target. They're always selling them in the Dollar Spot section.
... Casually living in an apartment which looks like a tiny library 📚❤️........ Everything else I have down, though!
I really need to call all of these companies that continue to send me offers for credit cards and such. Yesterday I shredded a years worth of mail because my husband had is info stolen a couple years back. We've been so paranoid since.

NEW WAY TO GET HOMELESS;)
What if your electronics aren't working? What will you do to access your things? lol
I dont think receipts can be recycled... at least not in the united states.
Amanda Galbreath it's paper..

Butt I am in junior high school still which means I need to print everything out for studying and stuff😂😂
+aixagenn keep all your papers in organised files and recycle the ones you wont need again. If its paper that just as exercises or notes, copy them onto your computer so you can refer to them that way. It makes studying a lot neater and stress free too :)
All the tips are good but E-BOOK? no lol
The only wrong thing about you is that imac!! Throw it away plz!
So go paperless and live off your phone? No thanks.
Haha I didn't say you had to, I said these are things I've been doing to reduce my paper consumption ☺️
I really love this series! It's helping me a lot, thank you! :)
