Thank you for this video. I decided to be a minimalist last year and I got my closet down from 300 pieces of clothing to about 50. I'm so happy I decided to take this journey.

Jeez, I've literally never owned 50 peices of clothing at one time. I plan to start this minimalist thing soon. I think it's clear, I will be one of the more extreme examples as all of my belongings already fit in one pickup truck load and I can't wait to throw out all my extra junk. lol

I can tell you, it's a relief when you live from your parents home. I was in the exact same position as you a few months ago, and I always felt it was out of my control. Since I moved here I've come to realise there's a lot that can be improved and it doesn't feel daunting anymore. Also it's all my stuff so I can actually clean without asking family members ! :)

    what you also can do:
    1. if you really like collecting, find one kind of things you want to collect (lipsticks, postcards, parfums, cds) only one so you can have fun but you don't start accidently buying too much of everything
    2. Declutter your social media: how many friends on Facebook are absolutly unnecessary? Who do I really want to follow on Twitter, Instagram or UA-cam? it's so relaxing when you aren't spamed by content you don't want to see anymore.
    3. spent more money on fun activities than on things
Hope it was helpful and excuse any mistakes, I learned english at school! XD

As far as Facebook friends are concerned. I have 75 facebook friends. I do not accept friend requests from just anyone. If they are in my friends list, I am either related to them or personal friends with them or have some connection to them whether it be High school, Military Service, Employment, etc. That's how you Minimize Facebook.

That's so true about investing in your everyday basics and not a lot for special occasion clothes... I get the cheapest basic t-shirts and jeans and tank tops and they always get ruined because I wear them out, but my $200 dress I wore ONCE is still in perfect shape. Makes no sense, great tip and I'm a new subscriber!

I think one thing would be to not buy a duplicate of a product that you already have - even if it sounds interesting or is on sale. Don't browse for products until you NEED to buy new ones and throw away the old ones as soon as new ones come in the house.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who view relationships, friendships, etc. this way. People have told me I'm too "rigid" and "robotic" regarding relationships with other people, but I usually explain my attitude by saying that I want to focus my energy on the people who actually care for me and bring positivity into my life rather than someone who simply drains me.

I am exploring minimalism and am very surprised at how mature your ideas around minimalism are. I have to admit, I almost didn't watch your video because I saw you were so young, and I thought your videos would be shallow...I know...I know... I have three young kids, work part time and am studying three subjects at uni. I have tried to keep organised by using my ipad, a very expensive Kiki K diary and various notebooks. I saw your video on how you stay organised and loved the black wire with brown paper notes, so practical and effective! I am very visual and am going to give it a go. Love your videos, especially the minimalist series. Look forward to the next upload :-)

But it is so hard to get rid of extra books but it gets easier each time. I even cleaned out my emails by unsubscribing from ads. My email is SO EASY to check and maintain now. • @ratioetscientia

There is a lot about this that appeals to me. Certainly when it comes to personal belongings and clothing I completely agree more and more the longer I am just living out of a suitcase and possessions are a burden. It can be fun to change your style every few weeks and follow new trends but I think a lot of people wrongly think that the opposite is necessarily boring. If you find a distinctive colour/silhouette/fabric that makes you look great and kick-ass then stick to it, CULTIVATE it, make it your trade mark. I think I would perceive that as a sign of maturity in a person and especially a woman would strike me as more characterful like that. Plus, almost every great character in every movie/book/computer game that we admire has their one distinctive outfit that hardly ever changes. I also like to keep apartments free from clutter if I think I won't be living there for long. However, there is also something undeniably great and generous about e.g. having relatives with a big house out in the country with lots of rooms, eccentric collections of things and shelves full of books to discover. But then it feels more like the place almost belongs to itself and not to one person. Having more discipline when it comes to buying unnecessary things can only be a good thing but you should still be able to tolerate and enjoy lavishness sometimes without finding it obscene.

I have been pondering on becoming a minimalist basically because as a college student, I found myself just buying stuff for no reason... just to realize, I have nowhere to place them. This was truly helpful. I am actually in a declutter part of my life... Just getting rid of clothes I've had for years! I'm not where I want to be, but the first step is better than nothing.

Hey Rachel, I wanted to let you know that I just printed your 30 day challenge and am excited to begin my journey. I have always yearned to have less clutter in my life but sadly I only ever purged my belongings after something negative. I can't wait to start anew in a healthier mindset. Wish me luck!

Whoa, this was so much more helpful than I thought it would be! The way you described the thought process behind every decision to be made was very helpful in understanding how/ why it needs to be done.

Hi Rachel, I would be interested in seeing a weekly food shop..or just a "food shop" - I've watched some of the food prep ones which are great...I also like the quote "my time is precious" it's so important not to let people suck the life out of you..I too had to "declutter" some relationships - the mental clarity afterwards is wonderful :) x
