Such an informative video 👏🏻👏🏻 Thank you so much this video is exactly what I needed to start my Dahlia collection. I had a pink pom-poms Dalia last year and it was beautiful and I didn’t do anything to it so now my Dahlias will be even more beautiful. I have sent off for a few Dahlias so Thank you for your video. 👍🏻👏🏻
Loved the instructions, very clear. Only one thing. Do you recommend Red or White Wine for the beheading ?? Ha Ha thanks for the humor. Im always a little nervous to cut into a Plant. Im the end its always for the best. Thanks again. From Victoria BC/Canada
First time dahlia grower here. Excellent explanation of pinching out. Thank you. Do you have a video of how to stake them please. I live in windy North Northumberland. Thank you again 😀
Yes I have, if you go to my website all the videos are together which makes it so much easier, I will add a link, it's all free no charge xxx zoewoodwardgardening.com/2023/03/31/dahlia-grow-a-long/
@@zoewoodwardgardening Thank you very much Zoe, excellent explanation and instruction. Off I go to plan where they are to go and sort out my canes. New to me garden first spring / summer. I’m going to be busy! 😀
This video is fantastic! Thank you!! I started to wake my tubers up WAY too early in bags in the house. They were tall and lanky before I cut them back. They have been in the house all this time and have been cut back a lot! Do I need to harden these off before planting in the ground?
Yes you need to protect them from sun and wind as much as cold to begin with. Much more on my website zoewoodwardgardening.com/2023/03/31/dahlia-grow-a-long/
Thank you for that explanation and sacrificing your baby in the name of science 😂 I was wondering last year where did I go wrong because my dahlia flowers were too short for bouquets
It's most likely the varieties however have a watch of my video on disbudding, quick link below that should help zoewoodwardgardening.com/2023/03/31/dahlia-grow-a-long/
Thank you so much for your fantastic instruction. If I have new tuber dahlias in pots and they are ready to pinch...I will be brave and do it. Then should I plant it in the ground?
Before planting make sure you harden them off for a few days first, otherwise the shock of moving them from the greenhouse will damage the plant. Yes you can pinch new tubers x
Wouldn't it have made sense to pinch them way earlier? I wait until I see two or three sets of leaves and break stem between those leaves while it's still tiny (as soon as it's long enough to grab it and break it off with my fingers). This way the plant doesn't waste time growing vegetation that will be cut off anyway and gets an earlier start on growing the side-shoots.
No, that will just make the plant weak as it's so young, you will effectively pinch when you deadhead. You can find out more on my website zoewoodwardgardening.com/2023/03/31/dahlia-grow-a-long/
This was May, if you go to my website I do I’ve go a grow-a-long live diary so you can see what was done when, it’s completely free xxx zoewoodwardgardening.com
Excellent tutorial. I wouldn't have had the courage to snip mine without seeing this video.
It’s really difficult the first time, but you’ll soon get confident once you see the results 👍

Thanks so much! I'm having a terrible time doing this but you've convinced me!! Great video.
I found if I left one or two plants that first year it then gave me a comparison and my confidence going forward x

Hello and thanks a lot. Few people pretend it’s Even better to pinch them earlier, before the stem is growing : what do you think ? Best
You need them to have leaves to photosynthesise.....
Thank you ❤❤❤
Bless you for taking the time xxxx

Don’t forget plants need photosynthesis to grow, pinching too early can be detrimental xxxx
😊good
Bless you x
Can you pinch again on the ones that have branched out? So, like double pinch?
