I have always liked the look and quality of the original SD 9 VE. THIS 2.0 looks like a even better improvement over the first one. Well done Smith and Wesson.
Fantastic carry gun or first gun for those on a budget. I admit I snobbishly looked down on the SD series before, but this gun opens my eyes. Great job, S&W! A great addition to "common use" affordability.
It's good to see an update/refresh of an older model from Smith & Wesson. I like the new slide serrations. They look better and the serrations added to the top of the slide help prevent glare. The updated trigger shoe look just like the M&P 2.0 trigger shoe. Flat profiled trigger shoes are a nice upgrade. Overall it's a decent looking pistol. This one will appeal to those who want a modern 9mm pistol for self defense. I think these will sell well. I have seen them on several websites for sale at $299.00.
Have both just got the sd9 2.0 the g3 is my home defense gun till I find out how reliable the sd9 is have thousands or rounds through my g3 with no issues
So basically, they remade the SD nine and added an Apex trigger kit. I own the SD 40 VE swapped out the stock trigger with an Apex flat face trigger. Haven’t had any problems with it ever since I had it great gun very reliable, surprisingly accurate.
This is going to have to be cheaper than the P10 line if it wants to move. It honestly blows my mind with how low the P10 has gotten while having the trigger it does.
I think it's because most people want their guns optics ready at around $500 and then Taurus coming out with the G3 line so cheap it changed the market to our benefit.
crazy thing is i bought the 1.0 for 100 bucks more. the 2.0 is 300 in my city and got the 1.0 for 400...432 with tax. Still love it might buy this one too with this insane deal
I own the generation just before this the SD40VE. I have Steadily improved from factory (or should say enhanced it). The biggest enhancement was obviously the trigger. Apex duty / carry kit with the "ultimate striker plunger & spring" (also from Apex). In addition polished all internal contact points. The results were no trigger creep, no grit no striker plunger hump, super crisp break and a reduced reset. I was getting a 4lb trigger pull. The reset was tactile but not as tactile as I wanted or felt it should be, IMO it was also a little light for a carry pistol with no other redundant safeties. How I remedied this is I switched out the Apex trigger return spring with an M&P 2.0 spring. Now I am getting consistent 4.5lb trigger pulls and a nice positive & audible tactile reset. If I could figure out a way to shorten the reset a little more It would be absolutely perfect, But this is the nature of the beast it's designed into the SD line. I could tell you just by looking at the video. My trigger pull is much better and the reset is a bit shorter than the one that's featured here. So before all of you go and throw away your pistols for the latest and the greatest. Consider what I just poste.
Back in 2013 these were a decent option but nowadays I don’t see the point. I still own an SD40VE but it’s never been my favorite pistol it’s just all I could afford back then but nowadays you have way better options.
Not bad for $299!!! I think that groups aren't going to be a consideration with this pistol until after about 250 to 500 rounds. My last sd series and the sigma I had many years ago, were both a little on the rougher side and shot their best after breaking in!!! Both were fairly accurate and dead nutz reliable.
The SD was the successor to the Sigma. They're different guns. I wonder how the SD 2.0 trigger compares to an SD/SDVE with the Apex trigger and spring upgrade kit.
Im sure they figured it out ...if we upgrade the trigger themselves...the could get more money because for the consumer its already in the gun..only thing left to upgrade is the guide rod...
Nice looking gun. This the RUB. Mine I bought from Academy was a Dud.. Went to Range 2 days after I boughtit. Shot a Mag of Blazer Brass. 3 times the Mag fell out onto the ground!! WOW! I remember the old Sigma. Glock sued S&W over it cause it was too close to the Glock design. I was wondering if they would refine the SDVE after the patent ran out.
I have one and i took it to the range for the first time yesterday and i was wondering if it was just me needing more practice or if it was shooting to the left. Now after seeing this im a bit worried.
Off the subject, but when do you all expect to get the new Gen3 Sub 2000 from Kel-Tec? Also, when do you think you might receive the TH10 from Taurus? Thanks. Those are both now on my list to purchase next.
We hope to have the Kel-Tec in 30-45 days. We've already sold through our first batch of TH10. We are sold out online but have more on the way. You can place a backorder for one on our website now.
@hbdrahh you know I might change my mind. Just took that czp10c to the range 2 weeks ago and 34th round starts having trouble. The stupid slide stop spring design the j spring leg came off notch and tge slide stays open. I put it back tried a week later 19th round same thing. Took home bent the spring towards and downward so I will try it out. But I'm really waiting for Smith and Wesson to make the new sdve 2.o in a 40cal
I disagree. I love everything about my SD9 including the trigger. Only part that sucked was taking it apart. Them little tabs on the side are a pain!!!
I just installed a wesbaun spring kit and Galloway boudica trigger. It was about $45 for both. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, but it feels much better dry firing
I used the apex spring kit. I tried the apex trigger but it wouldn’t fit correctly mainly the trigger bar geometry changed. I bought the Boudicca trigger and works great

I will take the Smith and Wesson definitely over the Taurus g3. The g3 and g3c is junk picky on hollow points
I remember passing on the first version many years back for $239. Maybe its time to revisit this line.
I don’t need another one but if it’s good and the price is right hey why not. Thanks for the video.
Just ordered one at Academy, should be in on Jan fourth.
Just got one today how is it i havwnt gotten the chance to fire it yet

Great comment, I feel the exact same way on this firearm.
Why did you look down on them before? Just because of the trigger?
Thanks for the review Patrick!
Thank you for making this video, I may purchase this weapon based on you shooting so well.
yup! if he can shoot it well ANYONE can 🤣

Thanks for all that you do 🙏
Hello to you again,
Nice clip, I like the new look and small upgrades and reasonable price.
Be well
Incredibly excited to pick mine up Friday
Great to get a reasonably priced American made gun to compete with foreign guns.
The SD 9 2.0 directly competes with the Taurus G3. Both guns are GREAT value.
I traded my g3 for one of these. I do miss the heaviness of the g3 tho
Have both just got the sd9 2.0 the g3 is my home defense gun till I find out how reliable the sd9 is have thousands or rounds through my g3 with no issues
I appreciate that you pick a random sample.

They did more than that, the trigger sear system is vastly different from the previous SD models. It’s a lot closer to the m&p sear system.
They basically put the newer shield plus triggers into it since so many people like that trigger
@@rhombo323 the trigger shoe is similar, but the sear mechanism is totally different.

And it’s made in Tennessee ❤
Glad S&W improved and good value 👍

I got my sd9 2.0 really like it already much better then the sd9ve from before !!
Internal parts have not changed???THANKS
I agree. The original triggers were a bit gritty. I'd like to see the 2.0 chambered in 40s&w and maybe 30sc.
Their not going to make it in 40cal.
That would be awesome I would definitely get it in both 40 and 30
bet they due if not they are crazy
Just one magazine?
Love my sd9! Now im gunna have to get this one!

Sure would like to see a trigger gauge/ on that video
Me too. Why hasn’t anyone done that, I would like to know the trigger pull weight before I buy one.
SD9 2.0 or Taurus G3? Which one should I pick?
SD9 2.0 no brainer
How’s this compared to the MP40 1.0? Same price now
I like my SD9 better than my G19. Overall slightly better than G19 imo.
S&W are for the people
I remember the old Sigma. Glock sued S&W over it cause it was too close to the Glock design. I was wondering if they would refine the SDVE after the patent ran out.
I tried the pistol at a local gun store had a heavy trigger but will probably break in after couple hundred rounds.
Dane brute Glock killer sweet mama had to get the new one I got the old one and I love it
I wonder if they’ll make a SD40 2.0 version
@KYGUNCO yous gotta convince S&W to make a limited edition run of 1006's
The serrations look almost identical to the ones on the equalizer slide
How does this compare 🤔 to Taurus g3?
Do the Sigma magazines work in this?
I liked the SD series except the trigger so I’m interested in this new model. I’m going to wait on the .40sw version.
Does the mag from the sd9ve fit in this new model?
It does
I had the Original SD40 VE . Getting the SD40 2.0
When he got to only 1 mag I scratched it off my list..S&W is wrong for that
Wondering if the still plan on make it in 40S&W
If so I'm sold
Anyone know the degree of parts compatibility with original SD series? How about magazine compatibility? Are they discontinuing the original SD line?
1.0 magazines work with the 2.0 gun.
@@cheeng1 That's a good start. Thanks.

It only comes with 1 mag? Dang that kind of sucks.
Yeah it does. My SD v1 came with two.

Are the coming out with a 40????
Is this better than the CZ p10?
No
P-10S for the win
The biggest mystery to me is why they don't just make the magazines hold 17 instead of 16 rounds.
