    Some commentators were bitching about the gun's heavy trigger pull. Being a former combat veteran (82nd. Airborne), let me clarify a very important point. When on the range, go ahead and bitch about the trigger. Your right. But when you are up against a deadly threat, and your world is spinning, that same trigger feels like a 1lb. pull. Why? ADRENALIN! Enough said.

      Off the subject. Why the band aid on the thumb? Wife bite? Kitchen knife? or pistol malfunction?

      I was 3rd ID. and I agree with you about the trigger pull weight. But this thing is junk. I am no fan of Glock. I am not going down the Ford / Chevy road. I'm simply calling a spade a spade. S&W is more closely related to a HiPoint.

    Unlike a Glock, it won't slide and dice your fingers or bite the back of your hand BECAUSE it has a beaver tail and room to place your fingers on the frame below a smoothed-edged slide and not the razor-sharp edge of a Glock slide.
    A 40SW Glock is the only gun to ever bite the back of my hand shooting one-handed. I shot a 40SW Beretta PX4, Springfiled XD(m) and S&W M&P. Nonew of those bit my hand. Only the Glockodile.

I have a sd9ve, and love it, especially for the price, for my first new handgun purchase, I would recommend it to anyone looking for a great low budget pistol. I just visited a range in my area and was chatting with the "expert" behind the counter. I asked his opinion on a few guns and he put down everything I asked him about, including my current carry weapon the SD9VE. His immediate response was "Oh, you don't want to carry that." I started to agree because I've wanted a smaller carry weapon, which is why I was browsing, but he continues by saying "I had a guy in one of my CCW classes that used one of those and had 235 out of 500 rounds fail. That's why we won't even take them in trade here anymore." Uhhhhh... bull crap? If a gun fails at that rate it's either user error or they just got the crappiest one out of that batch.
    I should have seen this coming, but after putting everything down (S&W, Beretta, etc.) he told me "What you really want to carry is this," and he hands me a baby Glock. I told him "Glocks are good, but I don't like the way they fit in my hand and they don't point naturally for me at all." He comes back with "I was the same way at first, but now I compete regularly and this gun" (points to his waist) "has had 80,000 rounds through it with NOT ONE FAILURE WHATSOEVER."
    Immediately my brain thought "I'm calling shenanigans on this guy and getting out of here." I thanked him and left with a bad taste in my mouth. Everyone else at the range was incredibly polite and welcoming, but that guy just kinda ruined it for me. From now on I'm just going to tell any gun shop employees I talk to right up front, "Rule 1, don't recommend Glock. They don't fit my hand and I'm not going to buy one."
    I don't have anything against Glocks, but I DO hate the tunnel vision some Glock owners develop. That's why I like TYM. He owns and carries Glocks, but he doesn't claim they were built by Jesus Christ himself.

    • @OzrithClay
      @OzrithClay 9 років тому +5

      I kind of agree.
      I think they're amazing guns. But that don't mean they're for every single shooter.
      I carry a Glock and two Glock clones (S&W40 and Diamondback 380)
      I do love Glocks. But when someone says "They don't fit my hand" I say in reply "To each his own".

    • @zstick
      @zstick 9 років тому +1

      OzrithClay That's the perfect response. I respect the reliability of Glocks, and they have a pretty good trigger. I'm only a little sad they don't work for me personally. It's not just that I don't like the way they feel. I actually have a slightly deformed shooting-hand pinky because of an accident back in my boy scout days. When I curl my fingers in that pinky rubs up against my ring finger ever so slightly. It's not a problem with normal, day-to-day activities, but the aggressive finger grooving on the grips of glocks make it uncomfortable enough that I don't enjoy shooting them. Plus they just don't point naturally for me.
      There are plenty of other firearms out there that work great for me, so I'll stick with those. I have nothing against Glocks themselves at all. They're great, they just aren't for me.

      My opinion has always been carry what works best for you. Buying a gun is kind of like buying a vehicle. Just because one guy likes the car he drives it doesn't mean you should go buy the same one. Best advice is go to a shooting range where you can rent guns to shoot. Test out a bunch of them and then decide which gun you want. There's nothing worse than spending 300 plus on a gun that you have never even got to shoot only to find out it doesnt work well for you.

    I have the 9mm version, actually the first gun I ever bought. I also own a Glock 19. They are very comparable to each other, and they both have some things I like on each. Glock has a better trigger to me. I like the slide, mag release and magazines better on the Smith. They pop out like butter every time. I feel like I can shoot the Glock a little better due to the lighter trigger even though I've shot well over 2500 rounds through the Smith without a single hiccup. I've never had a single malfunction with the Glock yet either, albeit about 1500 less rounds through it. The Glocks sights are easier to pick up, and the Smith feels more natural in my hand. The biggest factor is the price, which Smith absolutely wins here especially considering I bought mine used for $250. I like them both. The only real problem I have with the Smith is the trigger is heavy, feels a little mushy and has a long reset. A long trigger pull can be good for a carry pistol though. I've heard you can get an apex trigger kit to lighten the weight for like $25 though. I don't think it's necessary but it would make the gun shoot easier.

    I bought an SD9VE last year and fell in love with it. I recently put an Apex trigger and spring kit in it and WOW. I have put several thousand rounds through it and have had NO issues with failure to feed or eject and I have thrown some nasty cheap ammo through it testing it. My friend who is a Glock only nut shot it at the range the other week and I almost had to pry it out of his hands. $330.00 out the door + $75.00 trigger and spring kit + some messaging of my own and it can't be beat. 16 +1 rounds of stress relief on a budget.

      Dakota Fulps I find the 500+$ very worth it in my opinion. Glocks can withstand pretty much anything. Mud, dirt, dust, etc. Of my experience using them, I had never had any type of failure, troubleshooting, etc. I took them to the range and was making 10-15 meter headshots spot on with using only the stock sights. With that 500+$ you're using it to protect your life. It may suck having to pay that much but for me, its totally worth it. But if it's out of someones budget significantly, then I would go with the Sigma.

    You can't go wrong with the SD9/40ve either way. Especially for a new shooter looking for a self defense pistol. Not just because of the price, but because of the trigger that a lot of people talk down about. This was the first gun I ever shot about 2&1/2 years ago at my CCW/CPL class and I did exceptionally well. The reason the trigger is good for a new shooter in the role of self-defense is because it's very unlikely your going to let off a round that you didn't intend to.

But I always end up dry firing it the one time after the last round. Just want to clarify a couple things: this handgun is actually a 14 + 1 capacity and the trigger pull lightens up after the first round. The "no safety" feature is compensated for by making the first round a harder pull.

    My dad owns the SD40VE and he has borrowed a glock. Personally the Glock has a lot better trigger but the SD can be modified. I shot the Glock better but only because of the trigger until we changed the SD's. My honest opinion is that the SD is much better overall for the price difference, but Glock mags are a lot easier to find.

I own a glock 19,17 and a 20 and I have never had an issue with any of them. And I don’t wanna hear that I’m a “glocktard” I own a sig sauer, ruger , and I’m about to buy a sd40ve as well but nothing ticks me off more then people hating on Glocks for no other reason then they’re are just stubborn contrarians. Keep in mind that M&P Shield mags are not interchangeable with the SD series. I currently own 2 factory 14rd Mags and a ProMag SD40 25rd mag. It eats any brand of S&W 40 cal ammo I put through. I have the SD9 VE and I too had a bit of a time with the take down spring. One evening I took it apart and while watching a couple of TV shows I took a wooden dowel and depressed the spring for the take down over and over again. By exercising that one thing I have made the gun easier to take down. It is still tough but not as hard as it was. I probably depressed that spring a few thousand times. I have put about a thousand rounds down range. The only issue that I had with the pistol was that the rear sight was slightly out of alignment. Once aligned it became very accurate. No feed or ejection problems. I fired this thing about 400 times the first time I took it to the range. It did get a little warm but it was not unmanageable, and not warm at the rear grip on the slide. It is now my edc. No complaints on the trigger pull, but I've never been exposed to a pistol that had what is supposed to have a really good trigger.

    I have the SDVE 40 and the Glock 22. I love both but have to admit I get better groupings with the Smith. Saying it is better than the Glock is a bold statement that I don't agree with. What I like about the SDVE 40 is I picked it up used for 260 out the door. I cant say that about a lot of higher quality pistol. You get a lot of gun for the price, and its a gun I would trust with my life and loved ones. The Glock 22 same thing I would trust it, but with the heavy price tag wouldn't be as appealing to budget gun buyers. I don't understand why everyone shit on the trigger pull of the Smith it is not bad at all. When the bullets start flying it is not going to make a difference breathing, sights, and capacity would be your best friends in a real firefight, and I know it has great sights, and great capacity. The only other Smith I own is the SW99. That is also an amazing pistol, but the trigger pull on the SW99 is a lot heavier.

      +C Colt A replacement trigger spring kit is available -- that reduces pull by about 2 lbs. -- for $20...and/or a stiffer Guide Spring for about $30, that reduces muzzle flip... That would still give you a very 'budget-minded' pistol with excellent performance.

    The SD9VE and SD40VE are incredible values indeed. I currently have a Gen 4 Glock 17, Gen 3 Glock 32 and Gen 3 Glock 19. I also have an SD9Ve, and I have to say that after a few mods I shoot the SD slightly better than my Glocks. So far on my SD9 I have a metal guide rod/20# recoil spring combo, Apex spring kit, and Pachmayr grip sleeve. I have about 700rds through the gun in this guise and it has without fail been an excellent performer that shoots reliably and accurately every time. Rapid fire strings are very manageable and follow up shots are precise. I'm actually finding myself carrying this gun more and more. Next up will be a new set of sights, and that's going to about complete the package for me. I'm also considering the Apex replacement trigger that does away with the hinged M&P style trigger and makes it more like a slotted Glock trigger, but honestly so far I'm one of those weird people that doesn't mind the hinged trigger, and it doesn't negatively effect my performance. So far I have $400 into this gun with the purchase price and mods, and it serves me well at the range, for carry, and my weekly action pistol shoots, plus it's made in the USA. Can't get much better than that!

    I own an SD9mm have had it for 2 years now absolutely love the firearm. I have put around 1000 rounds through it only had a couple failures to eject but that can possibly be chalked up to the ammo (cheap target rounds). I highly recommend this firearm to anyone without a thick wallet. A few of my friends also own this firearm and they mirror my thoughts on it.

    Absolutely agree with shiny frame comment. I could not figure out what was bothering me about the look and you nailed it. Otherwise they did an amazing job on the aesthetics.

    I had one for about a month. Even after I did the second spring removal trick and polished up the sear and striker matins surfaces, trigger pull was horrible. Long take-up and no staging up to a break point. I carry a Taurus G2 now.

I liked it so much I have 1 of the 1st gen and I have 3 of the newer one exact one u show.

    Honestly, I went into the shop yesterday hoping to buy a Hi Point as my first gun, but the gun store was out of them. The gentleman asked what I was looking for, I said a pistol in .40 (I have my reasons) that is under 350 bucks, shoots straight and is reliable. This limited my choices to one of two things, this gun, or the road (or going over my budget, and I was not going to do that). So now I am a proud owner of an SD40VE, having done no research on it beforehand, and now I am doing research on it, I am liking what I see.

    I'm surprised he didn't rip the gun apart...This is the first gun I have ever heard him say ANYTHING good about. I bought used SD9 in the inflated arms market of today and paid $380. I think it is a great shooter and a great choice for a CCW.
