Thanks, Patrick, looking forward to following your ideas unfold. You’ve done the same excellent informative walkthru as you’ve given us with your new trailers on the lot. You really know your stuff and I enjoy watching!
Oh haha your from Colonial Airstream! Just came across this video! I can’t wait to see the finished product! Fun fact about my 1961 Bambi: I had a 1961 Chevrolet Apache Longbed Fleetside Truck that towed it with! Just for that overall feel of that classic lifestyle I guess. Thankfully I wasn’t driving the truck when the Airstream got hit. Instead I was driving my Tahoe. At least I still have a piece of my Bambi! I mean that’s kind of a lie haha. I still have the badges from it! Haha😆
I love it. Cant wait to see your videos of the work being done. I know it will look absolutely amazing when finished. You have a wealth of knowledge when it comes to projects like this, and that is why i love watching your videos.
That Airstream trailer is the freaking cutest!! I love watching your videos! Especially, as all I can hear is the voice from that awesome show... "Everybody Loves Raymond"! LOL ♥️ Love ya man! ♥️
Pat, I know this is going to turn out just as hot as your van, can't wait to see how it's going look when your all done. Since you did your van I've been on a hunt for an airstream just like yours....😁👍
Great video! I am the fourth owner of a California version #1605. It is in about the same condition mechanically, but the interior has not been redone and is in surprisingly good shape. I am not restoring, but renovating like you plan to. I have removed many original parts that I may not use in the end. Let me know if you are interested in any period parts... Take care!
I would use RedArc for my electric management system with Blue Sea as back bone . You will need 3 batteries in line to power everything. The refrigerator will need a direct wire with fuse. This is why you need to plan on a good electric system.
Oh man! With your experience and connection with airstream, I can't think of a better person to do it. One of the questions I was going to ask was if we would get to watch the build. Yes! You say you will. This is going to be fantastic! I have never heard of combining Gray and black tanks. You don't want to deal with a composting toilet? Will 30 gallons be enough for more than a weekend? You will update the outlets to more modern ones, I would guess? On one of the outside lights, you said you wanted to use incandescent light and not LED. This was a first for me. Why is that? What are your thoughts about the inside walls? Paint? Paper? Aluminum? Okay, enough questions and I can't wait to see you get started on this! Thanks for sharing! Seriously
I am still considering a cassette or composting toilet. 30 gallons is way plenty for one person to camp and shower for a week. I like the way the incandescent lights look better than LED and the interior skin is painted aluminum.
@@NewJerseyOutdoorAdventures gotcha and thanks for the quick reply. I meant to ask if you plan to keep the interior skin painted or will you do something different? I have it in my head that you were not going to strip the interior skin to match the exterior. But you didn't say that, it was just the impression I got after you said something about the interior. Since you were going to lose the green, I was thinking you have a plan. Thanks!
I have a 61 bambi. I think it is mostly original but not sure. Toilet was a pain to get working . The mechanism was frozen but with lots of patience and moving the mechanism back and forth just a little more each time it finally came loose. Luckily the rubber seals were all good. That vent or backflow preventer or whatever that vent is behind the toilet leaks. Afraid to take it apart.
Will you place any more insulation down on the floor before you put down new flooring? I saw the insulation when you shot the undercarriage but will that be enough for the winters in NJ? Thanks for sharing.
I have a ‘63 California Bambi and really appreciate you posting your videos as I have a hard to get to leak I need to get to and wasn’t sure how to tackle. Would be great to send you updates!
New Jersey Outdoor Adventures - I was teasing, you sell Airstreams, they have cushions, cushions sometimes go missing. Yes, I know... I need to work on my sense of humor. Sorry!
I strongly suggest that you try to make everything 12 volts so many vandwellers and campus tend to want that 110ac mentality.. which sounds cool when you buy civilization but if you want a bushes all in the Countryside by yourself I need a pendant upon yourself that battery is going to go very fast if you keep using AC power.. so you guys get into the habit of using DC power for everything and I do leave everything..
I love that how much did you pay for it I know people don't like to tell the prices.. I'm almost jealous of you cuz I plan to get something like that for my van next year but of course because I'm DIY I will not be buying the original like you I'll be by in a cargo trailer about the same size and do it myself completely...
@@NewJerseyOutdoorAdventures in your case it will be worth it because now you paid for it you might as well finish it I know it's going to be Wicked when you're done with it I cannot wait to it finished.. I hope you make more videos on there as you walk on it step-by-step.. because I know you're a DIY Pest of yourself I see the way you did your kind of vehicle it is awesome so I know that trailer it good to be Wicked guaranteed...
That's the reason those camper vehicles and things lasted forever because they made them properly they made them with plywood not chipboard which level is Camper vans and RVs today I made like crap they turn over the fall apart just like a Lego set.. this is what got me started in DIY making my own because I use plywood for everything yes it's heavier would but it's very very strong chipboard is crap and fiberglass is bull crap as well stay away from that my friend.. plywood is key yes it's heavy but it's very very strong and it will last you for years I guarantee you it... it's a new kind of vehicles used or continue using plywood that last a lot longer but after a couple years they stop leaking because it made out of fiberglass and chipboard and then you got to pay 60 70 80 thousand dollars for that cheap crap forget it this is why I'm DIY...
Hi there Patrick. I usually comment on my other account, but this has to do for today on my partner’s iPad. Could you tell me the name of the president on that piece of paper in the pantry? It kinda looks like Clizbe, which is my maiden name, but I’m just curious. Interesting project. I love the anniversary Airstream that has that mid-century modern feel and have been drooling over those,
This 1961 Airstream has good bones. You did a good job designing and explaining the updates.
Thank you very much
Thanks, Patrick, looking forward to following your ideas unfold. You’ve done the same excellent informative walkthru as you’ve given us with your new trailers on the lot. You really know your stuff and I enjoy watching!
Thank you for watching the series
I love those vintage caravans. They still look futuristic, comparing to blockier ones made today. Looking forward the "after renovation" tour...
Thank you very much
Very unique camper history. Keep up the great work!
Thank you Jay

Saw a Bambi at a gas station and it was a beaut! Loved this tour. Maybe you can repurpose the hubcap for decor or a clock base.
Thank you very much. Great idea

Nice project, really like the baking pan over the roof vent fix. Subscribed so will be following your build.

Those original dual voltage interior lights are pretty great.
I know right? Hard to find but I have enough now. Any regular fixture can be converted.
Can't wait too see the progress.....

Looks like this might be the perfect summer for a project like this, what with the 'social distancing' and all that. It'll be great! :-D

Nice Pat, how about a cassette toilet and just use a grey tank for shower and sink..One mixed use tank might limit you..
Great idea 💡

I will replace some of the underbelly insulation with Ecobat. I will not be using this in the winter

Somewhere, someday, someone’s going to watch this video, and yell “SO THATS WHY MY NEST WAS MISSING SOME CUSHIONS!” 😁
I purchased them legit

Are you home from work (non-essential; sheltering in place) until the end of April?
Yes, working from home
👍
Thank you John
Hi Patrick. Hunkered down here for the duration. But keeping busy. Nice! Are you restoring for your personal use or to sell? =Cosmo

Do you have any information on the fire ? Was it a grease fire or battery? Or electrical? Are you in north or south Jersey?? I grew up in SJ!!yay.
I think it was from an electric heater burning the cushions
Lol @ budget friendly. I’m gonna use that comment.

Why would they put the toilet paper holder so far away from the toilet, and up so high?
A lot of the things the PO did do not make and sense
Boy, it sure is a fixer upper! Looks like you have your work cut out for ya!
Yes, I do
Did I hear correctly, 3.5 gallons for both gray and black combined? That seems awfully small. You'd need a black tank dump every 2 days.
I said an average shower uses 3.5 gallons in an RV
@@NewJerseyOutdoorAdventures So I didn't hear correctly. Thanks for explaining.
No worries
Get rid of the counter tops.
Thank you for the suggestion
