It’s a really small bit, and super easy to miss, but it is there. The main thing both characters hated was the idea that spending time with each other was compulsory and so they each rebelled by “hating” each other. Still, as the actions in the song show, they conceivably could have made some great memories together and created a decent friendship. The glow up is what seems to have sparked the romantic interest, imo.

Also if it even was thought to be romantic again they were bith kids at that point and your emotional state is different and more mature then that of your past selves therefore he as a seemingly grown man should know how to behave and know that there is more to a girl then her beauty which I belive he eventually learns?

They just met each other after years of being apart and they only had their history of never being on good terms to go off of. So she definitely didn't like him for his personality. She took a glance at him for the first time in years and said internally that "her knees are buckling."(To how attracted she is to him.) So no, her's was equally a superficial attraction. Also he didn't have a romantic attraction to her either, his was also a superficial attraction at first.
But I agree with the rest of what you said. They were kids and they matured. Also, tho it felt forced, they did start caring about eachother as people later one.
