And Nolan too as many of our flying sequences were directly inspired by Dunkirk! Wild Robot is one of my favorite movies of all time and that's so insane for me to say and endorse so heavily. It hits emotional marks, humorous moments, and a strong relatability that's become hard to reach inside of me with newer animated works. This is personally why I love hearing different reviews and people's perspective because they haven't lived through what I have and obviously have different correlations and problems with things I or others wouldn't. I disagree with a few things here and stated in comments, but that's beyond fine and what I want. I love hearing personalized opinions regardless if I agree or not, and I thank you for your honesty here!
Seems like something I unexpectedly need right now. I just wish there are more animations like these that explored difficult themes without shouting it all the time or trying to sell me something.
Everyone saying "A robot named Roz" Like, no, guys, thats Rozzum 7138 But, you, the animals in the forest, can call them Roz. Meanwhile us, humans I don't think we're privy to that privilege yet 😂
dude I loved this, so glad you're here to validate my opinion. I can now start aggressively recommending this to people I meet at the bus stop. Thank you Karsten.
This movie is wonderful .However depending on what stage of life your in maybe your opinion of the movie won't be as strong as others. But I personally was deeply effective by the story and cried alot. 😢😢😢Sad,Moving and Beautiful a rare gem 💎 these days in modern movie cinema.
Honestly when I watch this it reminded me of Bastion (Overwatch) back story! The whole robot and nature. Tech vs Nature. Tech vs their own programming. It's fairly similar, that's why it's something I'm genuinely curious how they're going to tackle that for an hour long movie.
dude, they cooked with this movie, when I went to the local AMC in my mall, I noticed my mom cry a bit, safe to say that this hit closer to her home than I thought off
this is the best movie i’ve ever watch, it gives the feeling of a robot that become sentient is a feeling that sometimes makes me want to rewatch it again and feel the feeling again!, best movie i’ve ever watch ever!
I wouldnt say this is the best DreamWorks movie but it's definitely up there as one of the best right next to Kung Fu panda or Prince of Egypt. So cool to see that western animation studios are still trying new ideas.
i like when a review start the "let's talk about the negative parts" and it still drifts into positive aspects. That's how you can tell the reviewer struggled into finding anything to complain about. This movie is so good it's hard to find actual negative aspects, and even if you find one, it isn't detrimental to the overall product.
I haven’t got to check this thing out yet, but I’ve been so intrigued by it. From the full trailers, to the smaller commercials and ads I’d get here on UA-cam, I was immediately taken by it. It seemed really emotional and heartfelt, even the glimpses I saw were really making me feel something. Might just need to go check this one out in the theatre. Form my own opinion, as the man says.
Is there any evidence of Studio Interference? If no, then don't use it as a critique. It's really reductive and makes the people who ACTUALLY made the movie look better then they really are. Yes I know some studios do interfere with movies, but it's not always the case and assuming it is just cause you didn't like an aspect of the movie is a flimsy argument at best.
i definitely agree that it’s one of the best to have come out with a refreshing take on serious themes. i went with my 7 year old sister and she cried through most of it, but at the end she said she loved it! i held her at the parts where she was really sad and there were quite a bit but it ultimately is a movie about kindness, compass, and understanding differences. and granted she likes a lot of things that would make me question her tastes a little but she is 7 and i’m glad the scenes didn’t go over her head without being so heavy handed about what they wanted to say. subtlety with a dash of comedy thrown for ease of swallowing it down (bad way to put it acknowledged). i had wanted to see this since watching the trailer before inside out 2 and that was 2(ish) months ago? i felt at time that it could’ve been a 30 min short film without all the beautiful “roz learning” scenes in terms of the plot but that would’ve just been such a shame knowing i could’ve gotten the butterfly scene and the scene when roz is being chased in the beginning and the sky! my gosh it was like watching a masterpiece being painted every time i looked at the background. and while the fox character was trying too hard at times i felt, i do think he was sweet in helping roz with her tasks and generally being a good friend. overall 9/10 movie, one of the best movies i’ve seen in years and i’m just glad the movie-makers are having fun and making something it looked like they actually wanted to make. compared to the forced movie creation that disney/other popular production teams need to make to rake in the cash of taking advantage of an easy demographic. but good ending! the wild robot was really fun! 🤩❤
I felt like the story needed one more draft. But this was literally Concept Art: The Movie. I’d highly recommend seeing this in theaters; so many shots were jaw-droppingly gorgeous.
Not an outrageous statement to call it the best Dreamworks movie. In the same year we got Kung Fu Panda 4 😴 they release The Wild Robot 🤩. Shrek (2001), How to Train Your Dragon trilogy and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish are contenders, but Wild Robot is definitely the best if I had to pick one.
In a year that has been nothing but L’s for Dreamworks, I’m glad they’re back with another all-time classic. I have high hopes they can deliver for Dog Man next year.
I can’t believe someone else saw the Gracie & Pedro: Pets to the Rescue trailer before the movie. I thought I was having a fever dream or that I was going nuts. Glad to know I’m not totally there yet. But yeah The Wild Robot is a masterpiece, go watch and form your opinions of course, and please please PLEASE don’t leave after seeing Gracie & Pedro; trust me, it only goes up from there.
The last time I felt this feeling from a DreamWorks movie was HTTYD 1 and Kungfu Panda 2. It's full of emotion! a movie that is not only for children but also for adult.
Saw this movie over the weekend and this kind of summed up my thoughts perfectly. Next level gorgeous movie with themes that should be explored more often, held back from being a masterpiece by what feels like studio mandates regarding dialogue and specific story beats.
I think my biggest complaint about Wild Robot (no spoilers) was that the dialogue felt very quick but in the wrong places. At the times where it’s more important and more dark they didn’t let the characters to breathe - to process. They just clipped right along. So I absolutely loved the film, but I’m in the “it needed to be longer” boat. Some extra seconds of silence would’ve done wonders for the emotional development of the film. ❤
The Wild Robot is my favourite movie, and I still tear up when thinking about certain moments from that movie. About the pacing, I honestly vibe with it. Even though it COULD be better, i feel like all the other huge postives make up for it. Heck, I didn't even notice it the first time watching the movie, though on my second watch, I kinda felt it in one or two places. About the montages, I don't feel they break the pacing, I feel like they fit in the movie, with the housebuilding one you get Rozz and brightbill bonding, with the flight training one you see them come back together again after Brightbill got angry and the entire migration sequence man, i was weeping throughoutthe entire thing, bloody hell. To wrap my rant off, I just want to say that these are just my opinions, I fucking love this movie and I swear to God, if they ruin it with the sequels, I will personally banish dreamworks to Australia.
My family read the book out loud to each other in anticipation of the movie because I found the trailer so striking, and we ended up really loving the book. The movie was also a hit but we unanimously agreed the book was better and I think you touch on the reason why. The structure of the story in the book doesn't really have this strong singular arc. It's much more a series of vignettes with a few throughlines. Structure-wise, it's pretty unorthodox for a kids book. This movie, while very good, felt like either the director or the studio thought it had to be forced into the shape of the usual family animation blockbusters we get, which is unfortunate.
Completely disagree with the about Fink, he made the story relatable. without him both Roz and Brightbill will be just unrelatable characters who don't understand anything about the world they are in, and most likely will never survive, well Brightbill won't
I went and saw this based on your "what i watched in september" movie... It was this or Alien:Romulus. Im so happy i picked this... And in 3D!!! Oh muh gush... The 3D was amazing... The movie just kept packing on the emotions and by the end i felt every characters feelings. I think youre right, might be DreamWorks best movie.
AND THEN YOU FIND OUT THEY ARE BASICALLY SHUTTING DOWN THEIR ANIMATION DEPARTMENT, AND LAID OFF MOST OF THE PEOPLE THAT WORKED IN THIS THEY ARE OUTSOURCING TO SONY NOW (IT IS SO OVER)
Yeah my fav part of the movie is the subtle implication of humanity's death after climate change. I thought the whales on San Fransisco bridge was for epic montage stuff but then I noticed that the whole bridge was submerged. It's kinda grim watching that scene in the midst of tech CEOs saying that humanity need to fully pivot to AI because climate change is supposedly unstoppable according to them!
I wouldn't say it's Dreamworks' BEST animated film, though it is visually stunning and heartfelt. But to me, the best Dreamworks movie is still either Prince of Egypt or Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. This movie was great, but it was very kid-focused and to me didn't really feel like something most adults could get invested in the way they can with some other Dreamworks movies. Just my opinion, of course, not speaking for any adults that do like the movie.
This felt far more adult focused than Puss in my experience, I found it considerable moving. As a parent, as a human being, it was a wonderful experience. Curious, what about Puss in boots speaks to you most? I enjoyed that film thoroughly as well. Prince of Egypt is a valid take haha
@@noecontreras7297 Well, first of all, I just thought PiB's story and characters were more engaging. Don't get me wrong, the characters in The Wild Robot are very likable and well-rounded, but the characters in PiB are so much more entertaining to just watch, and they play off each other in more dynamic ways. Even Jack Horner, who's supposed to be a one-dimensional evil villain, is actually a very creative use of that trope, and Death was refreshingly menacing. I also think the plot was more interesting, but part of that's because I'm a sucker for fantasy stuff. And in the visuals department, I actually think I liked PiB's visuals more, not that the Wild Robot is slouching or anything, but I feel the art direction pops more in PiB, and there are more interesting things to look at. I'd still probably rank Prince of Egypt as my favorite, though. It's easily the most mature Dreamworks film (probably the most mature animated film ever marketed to kids aside from Watership Down), and it still holds up beautifully as both a story and in terms of its animation to this day.
i loved this movie a lot, but I think if they cut out the last 15-20 minutes of the movie it would’ve gotten a 10/10 for me honestly. I feel like they should’ve centered it much more around the relationship between Roz and Brightbill which it does for the first 3/4. I was not really interested too much about where Roz came from which is what the end focuses on.
@@objectivelysubjectiveopinionsI loved the last act of the movie. Seeing Brightbill become a leader and watching Razz save her new nature family was awesome. While the film could've ended before that, I think the addition really made the film better.
Just saw this yesterday and the ads were weird at my theater too😭 maybe less weird and more... Nonexistent. There was only a sonic 3, mufasa and moana 2 trailer + the weird silence your founds announcement that starts with hei hei screaming. Then there was two advertisements rhat were just self promotion for special film days at their location👽
There was a sense of mood whiplash in the movie when the robot learned animal language after the intro. I think that part lowers the movie a lot for me
I just saw this today as a matinee (and was the only one in the Alamo Drafthouse screening room, then again, 3 PM showing on a Monday afternoon during the school year, what did I expect crowd-wise) and I was awed and wowed, and I nearly ugly cried Toy Story 3 ending tears during multiple parts. However, my love for this film tragically overshadows the fact, speaking as a lifelong Transformers fan, that this film is going to siphon box office revenue away from Transformers One, which was also an excellent film about sentient robots. While I do think The Wild Robot is an objectively better film than Transformers One, damnit, I still wanna see Transformers One do well and turn a profit so Paramount will greenlight the planned sequels. However, I got two weekends in a row of excellent animated films featuring sentient robot characters. I actually want to go back and do a Transformers One/The Wild Robot double feature...

It definitely deserves it. Top 5 best animated film I've ever seen
it’s definitely up there. personally i wouldn’t put it above the prince of egypt, but also i get it
@@btafbmthere's stiff competition. All the ghibli movies, Pixar during their goat days, the Disney Renaissance, all the DreamWorks Hall of Fame movies, etc etc

I can't stop thinking about this movie since I watched it Saturday. I was holding it together for the most part until the very ending (I mean, like, the last line excluding post credits) and then the dam broke. Beautiful film I'll remember for a long time.
I am going to be fully honest, this is the first ever movie I have watched that quite literally took my breath away. Full props to the team that worked on it, arguably best movie of 2024 ❤
wht i appreciate about this movie is tht even after animals started talking they never stopped acting like animals like they still have their quirks, instincts, they go around sniffing, etc
unlike movies like open season, over the hedge, madagascar well these movies r nice comedies but none of the animals even act like animals
so yea i like tht they kept their animal tendencies in this movie
Wild Robot is one of my favorite movies of all time and that's so insane for me to say and endorse so heavily. It hits emotional marks, humorous moments, and a strong relatability that's become hard to reach inside of me with newer animated works. This is personally why I love hearing different reviews and people's perspective because they haven't lived through what I have and obviously have different correlations and problems with things I or others wouldn't. I disagree with a few things here and stated in comments, but that's beyond fine and what I want. I love hearing personalized opinions regardless if I agree or not, and I thank you for your honesty here!
Your point on the animation is fair, but Puss in Boots and the Spiderverse movies are amazing.
Seems like something I unexpectedly need right now. I just wish there are more animations like these that explored difficult themes without shouting it all the time or trying to sell me something.
Everyone saying "A robot named Roz"
Like, no, guys, thats Rozzum 7138
But, you, the animals in the forest, can call them Roz.
Meanwhile us, humans
I don't think we're privy to that privilege yet 😂
movie just had me in tears.
dude I loved this, so glad you're here to validate my opinion. I can now start aggressively recommending this to people I meet at the bus stop. Thank you Karsten.
This movie is wonderful .However depending on what stage of life your in maybe your opinion of the movie won't be as strong as others. But I personally was deeply effective by the story and cried alot. 😢😢😢Sad,Moving and Beautiful a rare gem 💎 these days in modern movie cinema.
at the background of your room.. I have that plush too from IKEA
How dare you call the fox unnecessary!!
Dog Man will be stiff competition for best DreamWorks movie
Honestly when I watch this it reminded me of Bastion (Overwatch) back story! The whole robot and nature. Tech vs Nature. Tech vs their own programming. It's fairly similar, that's why it's something I'm genuinely curious how they're going to tackle that for an hour long movie.
Took my niece to this one and we loved it 💕
Best dreamworks movie is lowkey Megamind Vs the Doom Syndicate it’s very underrated

dude, they cooked with this movie, when I went to the local AMC in my mall, I noticed my mom cry a bit, safe to say that this hit closer to her home than I thought off
Genuinely top 10 best movie I've ever seen in my life. Wow it was a legit masterpiece
How dare you disrespect my boy Fink like that
this is the best movie i’ve ever watch, it gives the feeling of a robot that become sentient is a feeling that sometimes makes me want to rewatch it again and feel the feeling again!, best movie i’ve ever watch ever!
we need more films like this, please. i need more movies like this
This film was a piece of art man
Schaff says dreamworks never left
I cried 4 times and couldn’t stop thinking about it for a week. Absolutely my favorite film of the year
Words cannot express how great this film was. I didn't think that a simple title, lies a fascinating story.
Imagine if lion king 2019 utilized these same kind of backdrops and lighting tricks
Need your review of The Substance ASAP!! I feel like I'm living in an alternate universe from everyone else who saw the movie....
I personally loved the story and to me it hit masterpiece level and the analogy for parents was just peak
you could take random screenshots of this movie and throw them together into a book and it would still be gorgeous
This was perhaps one of, if not the greatest movie I've ever seen. My dad and I were sobbing and hugging each other the whole time
trivia those Castle in the Sky robots are based on a Flesicher Superman short
Chris Sanders is the Dreamworks GOAT. How To Train Your Dragon, Lilo & Stitch, The Wild Robot.
i definitely agree that it’s one of the best to have come out with a refreshing take on serious themes. i went with my 7 year old sister and she cried through most of it, but at the end she said she loved it! i held her at the parts where she was really sad and there were quite a bit but it ultimately is a movie about kindness, compass, and understanding differences. and granted she likes a lot of things that would make me question her tastes a little but she is 7 and i’m glad the scenes didn’t go over her head without being so heavy handed about what they wanted to say. subtlety with a dash of comedy thrown for ease of swallowing it down (bad way to put it acknowledged). i had wanted to see this since watching the trailer before inside out 2 and that was 2(ish) months ago? i felt at time that it could’ve been a 30 min short film without all the beautiful “roz learning” scenes in terms of the plot but that would’ve just been such a shame knowing i could’ve gotten the butterfly scene and the scene when roz is being chased in the beginning and the sky! my gosh it was like watching a masterpiece being painted every time i looked at the background. and while the fox character was trying too hard at times i felt, i do think he was sweet in helping roz with her tasks and generally being a good friend. overall 9/10 movie, one of the best movies i’ve seen in years and i’m just glad the movie-makers are having fun and making something it looked like they actually wanted to make. compared to the forced movie creation that disney/other popular production teams need to make to rake in the cash of taking advantage of an easy demographic. but good ending! the wild robot was really fun! 🤩❤
It was a fantastic movie, totally pulling on the heartstrings, and just a very well-told story.
I felt like the story needed one more draft.
But this was literally Concept Art: The Movie. I’d highly recommend seeing this in theaters; so many shots were jaw-droppingly gorgeous.
Bro how did you not like the fox? Credibility gone imo
I prefer the price of egypt for a better story and a Banger soundtrack.

Don't let Kung Fu Panda 4 overshadow the masterpieces that are Kung Fu Panda 1 and 2... Straight masterpieces to me
In a year that has been nothing but L’s for Dreamworks, I’m glad they’re back with another all-time classic. I have high hopes they can deliver for Dog Man next year.
as a person who doesnt cry much from film (i didnt cry once in tales of ba sing se) this one hit me like a truck
Seeing this at TIFF was insane.
I saw it there too and it was so stunning and the energy around it was everything I cried like the whole thing
Every 3D feature is hitting peak but DISNEY itself
The last time I felt this feeling from a DreamWorks movie was HTTYD 1 and Kungfu Panda 2. It's full of emotion! a movie that is not only for children but also for adult.
Just saw it last night. Loved it. They couldn’t have picked a better film to close their in house run
I won't accept Fink slander. Repent.
Read the book, and those were GREAT, full of emotion adventure and lore, the movie is crazy good.
Watched it yesterday and thought "oh wow Shrek has competition"
Petition for Karsten to make a video where he roasts everybody's list of their favorite movie of every year
Would love to see this again
My family read the book out loud to each other in anticipation of the movie because I found the trailer so striking, and we ended up really loving the book. The movie was also a hit but we unanimously agreed the book was better and I think you touch on the reason why. The structure of the story in the book doesn't really have this strong singular arc. It's much more a series of vignettes with a few throughlines. Structure-wise, it's pretty unorthodox for a kids book. This movie, while very good, felt like either the director or the studio thought it had to be forced into the shape of the usual family animation blockbusters we get, which is unfortunate.
i went with a friend after having a meaningful conversation about growing up, parents and stuff so u can imagine how badly we wept lmao
Romulus is good too
The Wild Robot was the masterpiece I wanted it to be
AND THEN YOU FIND OUT THEY ARE BASICALLY SHUTTING DOWN THEIR ANIMATION DEPARTMENT, AND LAID OFF MOST OF THE PEOPLE THAT WORKED IN THIS
THEY ARE OUTSOURCING TO SONY NOW
(IT IS SO OVER)
Yeah my fav part of the movie is the subtle implication of humanity's death after climate change.
It needs a director's cut
Shut up dude. You have to be a child to say something like this
Watch Transformers One. It is the best Transformers movie so far.
Karsten should do a Dreamorks ranking
what is the piano song in the background?
That robot be wildin’
