hi, can this be kneaded with a kitchenaid dough kneader on low speed? thank you
Hi comentator I have never tried. But you can give it a try and if it works share in comment section it may help others.
@@CalAlleys , I gave it a go and it worked so well, I used the hook to knead for only a few seconds just as it started to ball up, and then used my hands to smooth it out into balls, worked well
Thank you so much for letting me know. Its means a lot to me and your feedback will help others. Stay blessed.
@@TheCommentator2020 Thank you so much for testing this. I have painful hands and would need a mixer. 🙏🏽❤️
Looks like a great recipe... hope to try it with some brown rice flour I have. Your video was really great, showing all the details and pointing out the problems a newbie might face... especially the kneading section.
Healthy recipe . Loved it
I like this. I am going to try this recipe with some partially ground spices such as rosemary, basil and/or thyme. I think that might add a nice subtle flavor.
Thank you. These look amazing.
Super work....you made it a treat to watch your video
2 minutes campaign . whenever you watch any body's video on youtube . please watch it at least for 2 minutes otherwise waste..... we have to support every hardworking and honest youtubers... not those who purchase watch etc.

Magic Discovered! Thank you a lot for this amazing recipe 😘😘😘

Definitely use the KitchenAid mixer with a hook, added a teaspoon of coconut oil to the mixture too. Thank you for sharing this, I couldn't believe I made homemade roti and I'm not even Indian 😊
Thank you for music and information. This is helpful video
Glad it was helpful!
Wow
Oh I think you solved my problem. My tortillas always break when I fold them . I think this will fix it .
We make it in Kerala, India, and we call it 'nice pathri”

Brilliant!
Thanks a lot.
Thankyou SO MUCH for this helpful post. I will be trying this today. Can it be made using brown rice flour do you know?
💓this thanks!
Great job now I'm really hungry after watching all that kneading 🙂
Hope you enjoy
Very good recipe, very well explained. I will settle in Philippines soon where finding rice is easy. I can make flour from rice, then make tortillas there for my family. Thank you very much, regards from Canada.
Thank you 😊
I really hate the suggestion video link that pops up in the top right corner that covers up the recipe and by the time you swipe it off the screen the videos moved on to the next slide. I hate when youtubers do this. Thanks for the video though.
wow excellent
Thanks
This is perfect! I needed a flat bread (no oven, non-dairy, even gluten-free) for when I go Rv-ing. BTW, it seems you have the flour/H2O proportion right on. After a little research, a couple other sites use way too much water. You convinced me to subscribe!
Thank you so much....😊
Hello CalAlley tv ! I am very fond of TORTILLAS dish! And I have never eaten rice flour food in your country (^ ^) I was hungry when I saw your videos!
Thank you for a wonderful movie (^ ^)
Thanks
how long do you cover the individual balls? Also, after you cook the tortillas, how much water do you put the tortillas in and for how long? Thank you!
This looks wonderful! Could you use them to make enchiladas, or other Mexican dishes? Thank you!
Thank you Gail.
Yes you can
Got to try that.thanks
Hope you enjoy
Very well explained... I love 2:41... 😂😂😂
Wow very nice.
Thank you Angel 👼
Nice
sujeena falcao thanks
Did anyone subitute the arrow flour for oat?
That's amazing! Thank you for sharing. Wonder if I can make rice pasta with this dough. Have you tried it?
I have never tried making pasta yet roonitochka
Hi, i want to know ig i can use this recipe to make a pizza like a dough ? Or you have a recipe for a roce pizza dough? Thanks i love this one.
Hi Nailoy,
Yes, you can use this recipe for pizza base.
you can make tortillas little thicker and rice flour does not have gluten so you wont get the actual pizza crust. I recommend you to cook the tortilla on pan first and then you can spread sauce and topping and put it in oven and bake as you do for normal pizza until cheese is melted.
Thank.
It seems so important that you showed how the dough will crack with not enough water. That might be why I've failed with all other tutorials. No one made a point about how the dough should feel / shouldn't crack. Question 1: When you cut off the sides after using rolling pin, is that important? Question 2: When covering balls of dough, should the towel be wet? I will try this tomorrow :-) (Me: many autoimmune problems - so few foods I can have. This would be amazing! And I love the comment below from someone who baked them like chips!) Thank you!
cut off the sides after using a rolling pin, is that important? No, its ok to be like that.
When covering balls of dough, should the towel be wet? It's best if wet but not needed.
Thanks!...
You're welcome!
Thank you for your video. Since I've never had roti - other than the ones I've made myself - I don't know what the texture / chew feeling should be. They turn out soft and flexible in hand. They tear when you try to rip them in half. When eating them, they seem to require more chewing than I expected. Mine are very thin, like yours. Is the "chew" normal?
Hi LL, while eating roti should feel soft. Make sure you are not cooking roti for a long time on Tawa. I follow 3 steps while cooking roti. The cooking process should be done between medium to high heat. 1st place roti on tawa cook for 20 to 30 seconds, 2nd step flip and cook for 60 seconds or until tiny golden brown sports appear and 3rd flip roti will puff and if it doesn’t don't keep roti longer then 30 seconds take it off the heat and store in hotpot.
Excellent video, i have been looking for. I have tried exactly with different quantity and it worked pretty well. Can we store them in fridge for a week or so? Also, to get more tasty, can you please suggest any other flour that can be added to this quantity? Thank you.
Hi safada billi you can combine 1/3 cup whole wheat flour to 1 cup rice flour water measurement will be different if you are using wheat flour.
This is a great video, you showed me what to do regarding the cracks. Explanation is on point.. Can I use sweet rice flour or tapioca flour? Can I use half the recipe if so can you tell me how much??
Not sure abt tapioca flour but sweet rice flour will work just make sure to add little flour at a time in hot water.
@@CalAlleys is sweet rice flour the kind you use? Or is it the white rice flour from long grain rice ?
how many tortillas does this recipe make?
😍😍😍😍😍
I have a high speed blender. The rice I have can be ground into flour, however if you make rice you have to cook for 20 min. Can this type of uncooked rice be used to make these? You only cook a short time.
Yes you can use it. Brown rice won’t work. If you are using white thick rice then go for it.
Thick white rice flour is basically use to tortillas .
Can you make pasta out of this recipe?
I tried making white rice flour tortillas using Bob's Red Mill stone ground white rice flour and it turned out HORRIBLE! EVERYTHING was sticking. I have a cast iron tortillas press so I have to use parchment paper and everything got stuck on the paper. Have you tried using this particular flour for your recipe? Also where did you get your tortilla press? I like how you can just rub some oil on it instead of messing with parchment paper.
Hi, I got rice flour from Indian store every quality of rice flour is different. Tortilla maker was manufactured locally. If you want a success try to buy rice flour from any Indian grocery store nearby. Sorry that you didn’t have success.
I can never get the kneading right :( Even with the water, I end up with overly sticky balls that are messy to roll with the added flour. How long do you actually knead the dough for? Help!
You need to knead it until dough has no cracks and don’t use more water if not needed.
Looks very soft. Where can I find this tortilla press?
You can buy online on amazon or in Walmart
Great video 👍...subbed
Thank you
Hello, thanks for posting this recipe. I am wondering can I freeze it?
J F, Not a good idea to freeze it will turn hard and break.
CalAlley's Kitchen thank you, I made it today. It is soft and chewy, perfect to wrap braised duck.
@@gardencat8578 Thanks for your valuable feedback.
Can we use tapioca starch with rice flour to stop it from breaking and make it fuller and soft? what about potato starch?
Hi bob, yes you can use tapioca flour as well potato starch
Oh wow, that's amazing. Can't believe they puffed up 😁
Thanks
? Would you be able to tell me what type of rice is used for Indian Rice Flour? I'll need to grind my own rice to make the flour. Long-grain, Medium -grain, Short-grain?
Thank you so much for this recipe. 🙏🏽❤️
Any Short grain or idly Rice will work as well.
flour should be fine consistently.
Thank you.
Thank you. I have a stone mill that finely grinds and have short grain rice. I'll give it a try soon.
@@CalAlleys
What heat should the burner the pan is on be at?
Medium to high
Have you tried adding herb and zucchini to the dough?
I haven’t tried yet...... but yes we can experiment on it..... a good thought.
I should try it.
How come your dough isnt sticky, mine its really sticky and I follow yours to the letter.....
Hi Carlos Flores,
May be it depends on the quality of rice flour we use but you can adjust the consistency while adding flour to the hot water if you feel the dough is too sticky you can add more rice flour at that stage (jump to the time 1.20 in recipe video) don’t add flour while kneading the dough. Dough should be knead with little water as shown in the video
Good fr celiacs
Thanks for watching.
Hello, can I use brown rice flour for this recipe? I have brown rice flour at home, and do not know how to use it!
Hi A G, I have not tried brown rice flour.
Make sure the rice flour is glutinous.
Not all rice flour will come together as a dough unless glutinous ratio is high. You can definitely give it a try with small portions.
@@CalAlleys Thank you for the reply!
I have celiac disease and only can eat bread of rice. Is there any way to transform this recipe in baked bread. May if I add some yeast or baking powder. Can you please help me?
Planning to make more videos on gluten free recipes. Bread recipe will be coming soon. Recipe for bread will be different from this.
this can work for wonton and potstickers im guessing??? just roll it a lill thinner, right?
Thanks for watching 😊yes, it will definitely work just need to be careful while rolling thinner. keep watching Richard F. Doss
sweet, ill try it in a few days 😁
glad to hear from you. tc
lmao...idk..kinda tastes like english muffins. sprouted brown rice, water, tapioca powder n salt.
Can i use brown rice flour
Thank you so much for watching dear.
yes you can use brown rice flour too. water and flour proportion may differ, but no worries you can adjust it by adding little flour at a time in hot water until you meet the required dough consistency. keep watching.😊😊
Does it matter what kind of rice flour? I do not know much about the differences as I do not eat gluten free, but have friends who have to. So, when I invite them... 😊
Yes, absolutely
Can i only use 1 cup water and flour instead 3
Yes you can
Is rice flour gluten free. Do you have as how much carbohydrates it has per roti pls.
Between 35 to 40 gm
Rice flour us gluten free. But, if you are inflamed then rice, potatoes, and corn, beans can mimic gluten in causing some of the same symtoms because of your high level of antibodies present in your system initially. Once you are more stable then add those items back in and see what happens. Btw, beans may still case a strong body reaction. Check with your doctor and do your research. That's how I discovered this information.
Rice flour is absolutely gluten free unless i has been processed in the same mill where wheat or flour (maida) was processed before rice....
Also, gluten intolerant folks can make rice flour at home with little bit of research online...
Good work calsweeta!!!
Thanks for the demonstration! How long do they stay soft ?
Until you keep in a tortilla warmer or air tight container. It’s best if you consume it freshly made. If you plan to refrigerate it make sure you warm it up in skillet pan. Remember that after cooking tortillas if leave them uncovered they turn hard. Thanks for watching
CalAlley. tv thanks!
Nice recipe but music was very loud
Sorry for that
What happens if you add an egg?
Not a good idea.
@@CalAlleys oh l,okay thanks.
Is it raw rice flour or roasted rice flour?
Hi Shamila, It’s a Raw rice flour
@@CalAlleys thank you very much
Is rice flour gluten free?
Yes
I wonder why how this took her to knead the dough. I really want tortillas but exhausted
It took around 10 minutes. You can start with lesser quantity so that you won’t be exhausted. Water and rice flour proportion should be equal. Thanks for watching
Rachel Wyatt it’s a great exercise for the arms, shoulders, & hands
I find food motivating and the more you do the quicker and easier it becomes ;)
Seems too much work. Especially the kneading. Sorry, don’t think its worth all this trouble. But you did do a Great Job.
I understand
I failed making this miserably. Is that GLUTINOUS rice flour???
Hi Nouf no it’s gluten free rice flour. Flour should be made of white rice if the flour is made of brown rice then its hard to make tortillas out of it
@@CalAlleys glutinous rice flour is not Gluten. GLUTINOUS IN RICE MEANS that the flour is sticky. I googled it.
Yes you are right but I have used flour which says only rice flour I always buy it from Indian store as I am Asian, tell me which brand rice flour you used and sorry for not getting success and I am really not aware abt kinds of rice flour are in market. You can buy rice flour from Indian store. Or may be you can try making with glutinous rice flour
@@CalAlleys It is called Jade leaf Brand. The writings on the packaging are green. It is written best glutinous rice flour on it. however, I also do have another rice flour. It is not sticky at all but it is coarse. It is not super fine. Can I use it?
I did make it with glutinous rice flour. It turned a MESS. and it was all sticky.
Very nicely done.
