Hi Mike and Jess, the group Al's referring too was called "fathers for justice" a protest group campaigning for divorced fathers access to their kids. They used to dress up in superhero costumes and make a nuisance of themselves, hence "I'll drive the van, but I'm not putting on a costume".
Probably the best comments I've ever heard from any reactors, ever. Sure it was a funny clip from Al, and you enjoyed it, but your summary at the end was absolutely spot on and most viewers won't give it the thought you did, nor express it as well as you did. Well done, your kids are lucky to have you!!
Sounds right, but it isn't. The reality is that hard men create good times for themselves, by exploiting and persecuting those whom they perceive to be soft (i.e. peaceable) men. It's a recipe for tyranny.
This has been a common phrase for ages for a reason. But now there is some research and evidence behind it, where they go further in depth on those links. There has been a few books written on it, but 'The Fourth Turning' is the most highly regarded. Our current cycle: 1946 - 1964 - 1984 - 2008. We are in the "hard times" since 2008. Approximated to end in 2033 due to the scale of the unravelling of the prior 24 years. Caused by Free-Market Capitalism, Tech Bubble, War on Terror. Could just say greed. Bit more info if anyone wants to read: Known as the Strauss-Howe generational theory, every 4 generations (Turns) represents a cycle. Generations are approx. 20 years and a full cycle takes 80-85 years. They have been able to follow this cycle based on events back to the 15th century (American history and the events that led to it's founding). First Turn - High - Occurs after a crisis. Institutions are strong, individualism is weak. Society is confident where they want to go collectively. Second Turn - Awakening - Institutions are attacked in the aim of promoting individualism. They look back on the previous turn as an era of cultural and spiritual poverty. Third Turn - Unravelling - The opposite of a High. Weak institutions and strong individualism. Everyone wants to enjoy themselves promoting greed and neglecting togetherness. Fourth Turn - Crisis - Destruction through wars or revolutions. Institutions are destroyed. Civic engagement. Improving behaviour.
I’ve always kinda looked down in reaction channels, if I’m honest. However, I saw your video on uk football chants, and enjoyed your reactions to it, and the laughter you shared and the banter between you both. Since then, I’ve watched loads and loads of your vids, and I look forward to the next one! I consider myself a fan now! From NW England.
Oh yes, the hard work that's rarely mentioned. Like the band that commented "It took us 10 years to become an overnight sensation". Even the Beatles grafted for years in Liverpool and Hamburg. And what about tennis players or swimmers or gymnasts who are trained from a _very_ young age - often far from home? It's all mighty hard work in these competitive times.
The difference between an amateur and a professional is that, an amateur practises until they get it right. A professional practises until they can't get it wrong (which basically means they never stop). 🙂
It's so true about putting in the hard work. When I was a kid, I was playing football for the " youth academy " of my city's professional football team. When I was 16, it was then time for selection to become an apprentice football player. My good friend was selected, worked harder still, and became a professional. I, on the other hand, was dismissed with one sentence , " Sorry, you're a likeable lad with good skills, but you'll never be good enough!" . And that was that!
I only came to Al Murray and Micky Flanagan via your reactions. I was away for years with the army and then spent all my time on fitness so never watched tv. I missed all this. I’m 63 now and find your channel a great way to catch up. You’re also a lovely couple as many people have pointed out. So thanks for your addictive, endearing reactions. 😊
My kids were the opposite, it was so frustrating, my son for example was an incredible guitarist at 13 and won his school's talent competition with a piece so difficult the head of music's jaw hit the floor, yet he was so self critical and didn't recognise his talent, he stopped playing at 17, I was gutted, but in the end it was his life and I had to respect his decision. I've always been extremely supportive and given them as many opportunities as I could so I don't know why they both ended up that way.....
"Ill drive the van,but im not putting on a costume " was a reference to a group called FATHERS FOR JUSTICE. They would dress up as super heros and climb on the houses of Parliament to get attention to their cause They were fathers who wanted to see their own children but laws stopped them somehow
Al is playing the role of the pub landlord. Which is why he’s a pint in hand and a bar behind him. He’s brilliant to listen to. You wouldn’t know he studied history at Oxford. His parents are still friends with one of Al’s history lecturers when he was Oxford. He couldn’t believe that Al is considered an authority on war history as according to the lecturer he was crap and a lazy bugger whilst at Uni. 😂
"You can't sing " because all young kids want to be on the X Factor and become a celebrity and having only ever watched 5 minutes of that tv series Al has hit the target dead centre.
Great reaction, guys. So damn true. Mollycoddling these youngsters will ruin their lives because they think that there is a "reset" button if they get it wrong. There is NOT a thing called "Overnight Success". Waiting for your next one. Stay Safe you two.
Hello guys from Devon uk 🇬🇧 I only just found your amazing channel few days ago you really do have amazing vlogs many thanks for sharing your amazing vlogs 👍 as always I truly look forward to your next future vlogs 👍
I love the one about don't ask them what they want for dinner. I was a solo dad of 2, and my kids just got told what I could budget for and cook on the day. When I could finally afford it I might take them out to get something, the point is, they totally appreciated it when we did, rather than "expect" it.
On the subject of keeping it real, my young daughter when four years old asked to have a violin bought for her. I sat her down and explained more kids give up violin than any other instrument, but I would buy her one IF she really wanted to learn to play, and if she would stick at it. She said she would. Twenty years later she has been a professional level player of the violin, playing for her schools, county orchestras and nation orchestras. She practiced 2-4 hrs daily, knowing her promise and how expensive her lessons and several violins were over the years. There are some decent kids around, most just lack motivation for not having the hard graft explained to them early on. Just to add, approx ten years ago she mentioned she wanted to learn the clarinet or sax as well. She decided on clarinet, once again instruments are expensive and she also kept to her word on this instrument, same results as above.
That’s why empires fall, the tough guys do the risky stuff to build but once you are there to enjoy yourselves there’s no purpose in sacrifice and risk so eventually it crumbles.
The problem we have now is, kids aren't even real with each other anymore. They don't call each other out, everyone is safe. Can't risk offending anyone, they're all just "expressing themselves". Bullying is necessary for growth and I'm tired of everyone pretending it isn't
I love watching your reactions. You both get British humour and understand that they are only jokes, even when they are a little contentious (gay intolerant) and don’t feel the need to interrupt the video to explain the jokes, like some reactors do (and often they misinterpret the joke because they don’t understand British humour). You are well on the way to becoming honorary Brits for recognising our humour. During the video Al referred to the guy in the audience as being “special plod”. Plod is another slang word for police officer but special plod refers to a position of a support officer who doesn’t have the same powers as a full officer. Plod comes from a series of children’s books by Enid Blyton called Noddy in Toy Town that had a police constable Plod. It gets mentioned in the Two Ronnies video you have reacted to, the one with the crossword puzzle on the train. ❤

This comedy sketch by Al Murray and your reaction Mike and Jess was so funny yet so true. Youngsters these days are so influenced by social media, they can lose a sense of reality. Kids are watching and copying all of these TikTok videos and the next minute, they think they can dance! It's like Mike said, they have to be learning these trades from an young age, working hard and putting in the hours to become a professional in the entertainment industry. Also, Jess picked up on a parent must be truthful with their children as not to give them a false sense of ability when watching social media and viral videos. Great reaction RegenerationNationTV and this proves that Al Murray along with the likes of Mickey Flanagan and Lee Evans are the kings of comedy as their comedy is so relatable. What gives Al Murray the edge is that his comedy is "educated comedy." For more educated comedy from Al Murray guys check out his "Al Murrays take on the nations of the world" (23.07 mins) or "What Hell Is Like In Different Countries" (7.48 mins) for more bundles of fun. 😅🤣😂
There are many different sides to Al Murray , he's actually a very clever historian here in the UK as well. In real life he's nothing like his pub landlord character and actually has his own hair !! The pub landlord character is mainly what he's recognised for but he's now starting to get involved in many other things apart from stand up.
Al's real brilliant quality lies in his audience participation for the first half-hour of his shows, and then utilising this information to blend seamlessly into the remainder of his stand up. Worth watching a whole show but it would be long. Maybe split into parts? Peace and love.
Personally, I think you guys should react to Ren.. he does not copyright content creators on YT who monetise his music. Start from the earliest videos you can find to understand his journey, follow his life story his struggles with illness and much more. I guarantee it will help you gain many more subscribers as his followers are very loyally and show respect.
Al Murray published his new book about operation Market Garden, besides stand up he is a historian. Title Arnhem: Black Tuesday: The Classic Battle Told As Never Before
Many years ago, when I was at school, we had a classmate whose father was convinced his son was a professional grade football / soccer player. He came to every physical education class and enrolled his son in many professional football club entrance trials. His son failed to get one reply from any of these clubs and would come to school the next day thoroughly dejected. The fact of the matter was that the classmate wasn't even good enough to make the school team, but I think the father was trying to live his own dream through his son. Even as a teenager, I realised this and thought this was cruel as he was continually setting his son up for failure.
Parents: You are not your child's friend. That's not your job. You need to be their parent, which is a much more important, though infinitely more difficult, task.
Definitely agree with that moral, kids cant accept criticism or people are to afraid to hurt feelings 😂 Come to the UK they will have a culture shock with our wonderfully colourful language 😂😂
Irrespective of hard times or soft times, we're definitely creating a generation of people who don't know their proverbs and yet have a voice on the internet :)
I sent you an email a couple of days ago recommending a couple of Rowan Atkinson videos. One been called dirty names and the second one call toby the devil , the links should have been within the email to.
Toby the Devil is great... Especially this version on YT: 'Rowan Atkinson: Toby the Devil' - "We Are Most Amused and Amazed" - It's better filming and background, done for a one-off performance at the 'London Palladium' for Prince Charles' 70th Birthday celebration...
Johnny Vegas would bypass all that questioning lol, depends on what your child is like, tell your child to do good things and good things will come of it
big bloke at the front is a policeman, a nickname for a policeman is 'plod' in the uk, he's a special plod, so he's a volunteer policeman(special constable)
7:30 so just to make sure you get what he is talking about, in the UK there was a movement in the early 2000 onwards called a “Justice for dads” basically highlighting the bias of the UK courts to not give basic things like any visitation right to dads after a divorce. I believe it’s the same or worst in the states. Part of this protest by dad that got everyone’s attention, was that they dressed up as super heros! So you had Batman, Superman and many’s other on the news, making the news! Because they were fucked over by the judicial system.
