"Amherst, in western Massachusetts, is the nexus of four liberal-arts colleges and a major public university. It is home to about forty thousand people, including a fluctuating population of undergraduates and grad students. On its woodsy, winding residential streets, Black Lives Matter and “In This House . . .” signs sprout alongside native gardens of holly, bayberry, and mountain laurel. In the 2020 election, more than ninety per cent of the town’s voters went for Joe Biden.
A joke you hear a lot is that, in Amherst, only the “H” is silent. It’s a town known for raucous debate and lefty political infighting. Still, even by these disputatious standards, the arguments that have been carrying on around Amherst Regional Middle School, or arms, have been vociferous. How and when they started depends on whom you ask, but they broke into wider public view last May, when Amherst’s high-school newspaper, the Graphic, published a five-thousand-word article headlined “ ‘It’s Life or Death’: Failure to Protect Trans Kids at arms a Systemic Problem.” The piece anonymously quoted several trans and gender-nonconforming students, who recounted numerous incidents of bullying and harassment, harmful encounters with guidance counsellors, and fruitless complaints to administrators. Among the article’s striking details was that, at a prayer meeting at school, a guidance counsellor reportedly said, “In the name of Jesus, we bind that LGBTQ gay demon that wants to confuse our children.” (The counsellor later denied making this comment.) That same staffer, the piece alleged, handed out chocolate crucifixes to students."

They're right at the conclusion that it just simply shouldn't be in schools period. Anna is so close but isn't given a second to breathe because cenk is interrupting her as she gets momentum. Cenk thinks normal people see this and think who right and wrong when the normal people are actually thinking why is this even a problem.
I think this is the reckoning, at least with Ana.
I'm 40. When I was in elementary school, we would literally sing "We Shall Overcome," holding hands in solidarity and equality. It was a point of pride we were all the same. Now, it feels like I'm looking at footage from the 1950s. We went backwards. And its the fault of every identitarian. Makes me sick.
Same generation here. We held hands, said we were colorblind, my friends are black, Native, Asian, Latino, I dated people of whatever race or status or whatever. Now our colorblindness is systemic racism. It's madness.
As a Black woman I can honestly attest that DEI, in my predominantly Black/Latino Community, historically has been used to help Elitists hire their friends and family. The rabid nepotism/preferential treatment are essentially woven themes of American Society.
Like legacy entry/hires. Same old same old. People accepted it when it wasn't black and brown, but now its a problem?

It is not a religion. Being "woke" means being aware of things like real history and how various groups have not had fair or equal treatment under the stated laws and beliefs of a specific country and culture (the United States, in this case). It also means being aware that organizations run by people are by definition flawed, but we should keep striving to do better...to work toward a more perfect union. Those who are NOT aware or willing to change anything to try to correct injustice and suffering needlessly caused by others are the problem.

“Increase in diversity” translates into “we have more black and brown faces to put on our flyers”. Not that we have diversity of thought or opinions.
Of course, schools should be attempting to teach things that are universally true, like mathematics or how to read and write. Diverse opinions of these things from the as-yet uneducated have no value. A speaker of a cultural patois like Ebonics should be taught standard English so they are not disadvantaged when navigating the broader community, just as it is highly desirable for most students to learn the standard form of at least one other language.

There is no “light,” and even if there was one, conservatives don’t see it either. Saying “I’m conservative” is just as absurd as saying “I’m liberal” because it implies that that person’s world is black and white, when the vast majority of issues are gray.

Well they kinda have to. The ones who don’t will be pestered by the ones who do because the ones who do (radicals) are always looking for validation. They are always checking you to make sure you agree, such that politics must be carried like drivers licenses, and the ones giving the traffic stops are the radicals. How many dating profiles have I come across now that say, “let’s make sure we’re on the same page about… women’s rights.” And “you should not go out with me if… you voted for Trump.” Or profiles that only say “BLM”.
Oh how I miss those days. I didn’t have to fear if anyone asked me what I believed in.
As a center right that hang allot with very left wing people I just keep most of my opinions to myself, we discuss things sometimes but I need to be with people I trust to completely let the guard down.

Its insane how quickly 1 segment of truth and honesty can completely evaporate years of frustration and dislike that I've had with The Young Turks. Its only because I have God in my heart because if I was of the world, I would continue to hate and be bitter. The truth honestly sets you free. Edit: I continued watching.. I agree religion shouldn't be a focus in public school but that means all religious beliefs including the alphabet and the DEI religion should not be a focus.

As a Hispanic woman, when I heard the quote that"boys are princes", I can attest to the fact that they most certainly are NOT; there are a lot of macho, cruel, and just plain awful Hispanic men out there. It's the ones whose mothers act like the sun rises and sets on their heads, puts them on a pedestal without reason, who create misogynistic bullies. I raised two sons. Neither is perfect. Hopefully they are living everyday lives doing the right things.

Jesus teaches us to pray in private, not to judge our brothers and sisters and to Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's.
God may be in everything I do, but he teaches us humility, not to throw my beliefs into the face of others and to respect the laws of men and the laws of God. Not bringing your beliefs into work is part of those laws and our God commands us to respect those laws, when you don't, you're disrespecting the commands of our Lord.

TYT is now complaining about the things they helped bring about. It's an amazing lack of self-awareness, let alone accountability. It's almost funny.
"Kids can't even freakin' read!!" Exactly, Ana! We need to focus on the basics, which is already more than enough to worry about because too many parents provide zero rules, consequences, or academic help at home. It all falls to teachers, which is incredibly stressful and unfair.
There is ZERO ROOM for religious BS in public schools. Kids need to feel cared for, included, supported, guided, and held accountable for their actions. THEN we can begin to focus on academic growth. BTW...the paraprofessionals are being USED to save the district a TON of money because these ppl are paid hourly and are likely part-time only (often not by choice); they have no contract, no benefits, no vacation pay, no power, and no voice. They make far less per hour than teachers. They also most likely do not get raises very often. Some districts (like mine in SoCal), pay them less than they would make working in fast food. It is disgraceful.
Well said, it’s insane that we expect so much from teachers. All the while, we are unwilling to provide them the basic living expenses, let alone tools to equip them to perform.
I think the biggest problem here is lack of accountability on parents. There should be some standard of agreed upon parenting these days. Too many people have children, but lack the parental skills, effort and/or maturity.
I've just quit teaching in the UK for pretty much these reasons. Worked at a school which was ALL about 'restorative justice' and poor behaviour was just excused. The religious majority in this school (a minority in the UK itself) was given major leeway with regard to privileging their religious pov- and exactly the same group was targeted (LGBTQ+) despite there being a strong advocate for LGBTQ+ on staff. Bullying and othering was excused as 'cultural differences'. This is BANG ON. Keep up the good work

@@Kavafy Endless rule breaking (sometimes v serious in nature) by some students was just completely overlooked/excused by management. Students 'knew' that it was practically impossible to get suspended/expelled.
Just one of many examples- a student (15yo) assaulted a member of the public (elderly) and despite police involvement the student was allowed to remain (this was only one in a string of overlooked/forgiven incidents this student was involved with). Teachers expressed reservations and warned management this might backfire. 2 months later the same student accused a member of staff of assault. The staff member resigned as she felt the school did not really support her and was looking to excuse the student. A few days later it came out that it was all on CCTV and it was the student who assaulted the staff member out of nowhere. Finally the school removed her.
And it will never get better.

This is the problem with irrelgious people, religion isn't some part of you, it's not segmented in your mind, it is who you are. Saying, "I am praying for you." isn't proselytizing. Now if the teacher got up and shared the gospel, or read the Quran, or told students to bow to the east as she prayed, that would be crossing the line. Second, getting angry for misgendering is rediculous. In one breath you say don't bring your religion into the classroom, and in the next respect the LGBTQ religion.

Hiring anybody to do any job should be based on merit. Is the person the most qualified for the role. Anything else is a disservice to every other person in that role. DEI over ability is part of the issue.

Don’t hold your breath. The entire sham of DEI is that there is supposedly a quantifiable standard of equality and fairness-some arbitrary measuring stick that goes beyond simply “not discriminating people based on immutable characteristics”.
It will never be “diverse” enough because you can keep zooming the lens out to larger and larger population samples to claim what is a “fair” breakdown of racial and sexual proportions. It’s all a power wielding tool, a very dirty one because it claims to be moral and just.
