This is the Mallee Highway level crossing at Manangatang. It is located in northwest Victoria on the Robinvale line which is currently truncated at Manangatang.
The crossing is fairly unique because of the large median which separates the eastbound and westbound lanes. There is also a school crossing on the west side of the track with the signals situated further back to accommodate it. The school crossing is identified by the red & white posts.
These signals were installed on December 22, 2009. The equipment includes Safetran gate mechanisms, Unipart gate lights, Westinghouse LED lights and Safetran Type 3 electronic bells.
The train shown in the video is 9155 empty grain from Geelong to Manangatang, with locomotives G524 and G543.
    Filmed on September 12, 2021.

Great video Michael, this crossing is certainly very unique with the lights only flashing light signals. Love the pictures towards the end of the video too.

Fantastic Video! This looks like a nice peaceful crossing, which is great! I also like the Gateless signals setup, don’t see to many of that kind around Victoria!

Certainly an interesting set up for this crossing. It’s amazing that despite being on a major highway, they didn’t even have signals here until 2009. I wonder how many trains it even sees?
BTW, they removed the crossing at Narre Warren recently. :(

The crossing only sees a couple of trains per week and the track speed is low because it’s at the end of the line, guessing that’s why it was passive for so long. Only got upgraded because the federal government paid as part of the economic stimulus package after the GFC.

@@McKHAust Regardless, I'm glad this crossing got upgraded, as it has a neat little set up at it.

Yes even though it’s a newer setup, it’s quite an interesting configuration

Great video and nice crossing! The extra gateless signals are definitely neat, though a bit odd with how they're mounted on the far side of the tracks from the direction of travel, I wonder why that was done?

Thanks! I’m guessing the gateless signals were mounted in their position to replicate the rear facing lights on the opposite side of the track which would have existed with a normal setup

@@McKHAust That was my guess as well, though I feel like it would've made just as much sense had the median signals been mounted on the nearsides. Could it potentially be something in y'all's regulations?

Victoria seems to do this quite often so it could be something in their regulations, other states don’t seem to do the same thing very often

Heh heh! I noticed that too. I guess the video was uploaded about 2 years ago, but unlisted / private until today.
Manangatang is a perfectly normal name. Just like Chillingollah, Quanbatook and Chinkapook on the same line. 🤣
