During the early eighties one of my workmates came to work beaming, that he stopped to admire one of these at the station one night. Where the driver invited him in to the cab to demonstrate the dials and controls, and their purpose. Before the signal to leave the station. Iconic trains they are indeed. I love the way when the train goes out of sight you still keep the camera rolling, where others would simply cut that scene out. When one of your shots shows the train fade into the haze is pretty special. Then the night shot. Nicely thought though.
As an American, I too am very sad to hear that the ol' 37s are being replaced. True icons of British railroading for sure. Let's hope the 37s have a slightly brighter future than just being replaced.
Im very new to british trains, but I have admit that this locomotive, landscape, train and specially the sound it is outstanding! Thank you for sharing.
Great footage and made me smile, remembering how lucky we were to have over three years of 37 hauled services on this route…and in large logo! Amazing to think it happened, now.
Excellent footage. I managed to get get over to see and ride them just before the 68s ended the last of these runs and this bought back some nice memories!
Amazing footage! How priviliged you are to enjoy any sort of locomotive haulage these days. at 9 mins was that Mary (Queen of Scots) at the controls!! (very pretty!). Just about forgotten what 37s sounded like, and I was brought up on 'em on the former MML at Cudworth!
Oh no, I thought they would be around for a bit longer, I'm taking a trip up from Shropshire next week, and this was going to be my highlight. Wonderful 'proper' railway.
DRS are very good at finding work for their stock. What price putting together two of the Cumbrian sets with the 37s in the middle as a Tractor Railtour unit? Easy reversal, motive power backup - one 37 could easily drag the other and eight coaches out of trouble. Iconic Mk2s (I assume the entire consists are Mk 2, not just the driving trailers). Work up an exotic livery based on DRSs house colours and away you go...Tractor fan heaven.
Excellent shots of the Tractors in action! Brilliant sound of two at St Bees. What will happen to them after they cease the operations at Cumbrian line? Thumbs up, this one lands on the Favourites :) Best regards from Poland! :) Mike
The engine is at optimum power due the the method of power delivery to the track instead of having to go through fixed gear ratios where it has to reach peak power by a comparatively gradual increase in revs. I am no expert in these locos.
And what I mean by there is there kick out tons of pollution they are from the 60's as reminiscent as they are look at every other rich country and its trains LOOK AT OURS shocking to say the least we really fall far behind every rich nation when it comes to trains etc even today RIP off and cheap looking By the time HS2 comes on track it will be out dated We are backward on some matters which I believe is more political than the skill of our engineers It's a joke where our sleek trains that dont cost the earth whilst killing it off with tons of pollution
At 1:41 im all like 'Wow Epicness'😋......then 1:46 comes and im like 'Crappy EMU in the way!'.....very disappointed!😒...Then 2:00 Im all like 'WTF 😱 😍' Pure Greatness!!

The Cumbrian Coast services Class 37s is due last operations on Saturday 8th December 2018 when the summer timetables ends on that day the end of class 37s the following when the new winter timetables begins on Sunday 9th December 2018 that class 37s is no more on the Cumbrian Coast services is being replaced by new class 68s and class 66s on the first day the new timetable network. Everything in this video is beautiful: landscapes, stations, signalling, railwaypeople, stock, locos, and of course, supreme thrash of 37s
Thanks FiveSixBroad

Well quite a few are preserved in fact some 37401 is preserved and she is mainline registered
Many are still in operation with other companies, such as colas rail, and a large amount are preserved with a few being mainline registered
37's seem to get replaced every 5 years or so, they'll be back in one form or another, no need to worry about that!
No way can't believe there replaced
Well the deltic 55 is much more faster and better
I love the 37s. You can hear them coming miles away.

Beautiful Tractors!! So aggressive looking and sounding. Thanks!!
Fantastic, not seen many lasses piloting a 37 before. Awesome.
Same here, good on her, a lady friend of mine has just passed as driver for db, good on her too.
Fair credit to the lass giving Mary some thrash out of the Station .
Excellent footage. I managed to get get over to see and ride them just before the 68s ended the last of these runs and this bought back some nice memories!

If you listen closely you can hear them talking to each other in the ancient dragon language.

Brill video. Was on one of the trains last week from Carlisle to Barrow.
Thanks John

All I can say is take advantage of the 37s while you can before there gone (68s have been introduced to passengers on March)
Some of the best shots of 37's on UA-cam .......Peter
Thanks for those kind words Peter

Are we all sure that all class 37s will not run this line anymore ? I’d lov to be up there this November if so! 401 monster!
Good footage, I particularly liked the shot from 9:00 onwards
Owen Evans Thanks Owen..
Nice sound ... thumps up!!!
que locomotora muy buena que potencia que tiene .... muy bueno que hayan conductoras de locomotora mujeres!
A very nice video for a fantastic locomotive ! I have put the video on my blog. :-)

Hopefully 401 and 403 will go back to SRPS Boness for a deserved semi retirement in the rightful place.
KingmoorCondor sounds likely considering Srps Bo’ness have 37402 allready.
wot can u say? 8.20........fantastic!!!!!
Train heaven
These lovely Diesel locos are like ever- young grandpas :)
Nice Tractors
I love the sound of the class 37.
Can some knowledgeable person tell me why the idle is irregular?
Low speed idling with 120 degree crankshaft throws may account for the off beat sound?
That lassy doing a job most blokes would love to do, fair play to her👍
great video
Very enjoyable video. Good to see proper signalling. Is the coaching stock being replaced as well?
Thanks Philip
Shame these are going. At least they're being replaced by other locos and not DMU'S.
Great video, the old gal gives it some beans doesn't she
Very Nice. They havent ended yet have they? Dont they end 30th Jan?
Thanks for that..not sure on end date as yet..the longer the better...
desdemona77 Indeed so my friend. Longer the better. Although Think we still got them for 2 more weeks atleast.
How fast do 37s accelerate? They seems to pick up speed very fast, just curious what their 0 to 60 might be?
The engine is at optimum power due the the method of power delivery to the track instead of having to go through fixed gear ratios where it has to reach peak power by a comparatively gradual increase in revs. I am no expert in these locos.
Nice these classic railways thought.
Hi some great footage. Can I ask what video camera you use. Seems to capture the lovely sounds perfectly.
Hi Graham..Its a Sony external mic that sits on top of the camcorder
Great Video :)
Thanks for the comment

The cumbrian coast loco hauled trains are simillar to american commuter trains with a loco on one end and a cab car (DBSO)
Jealous as hell !!! I live next to The Cambrian Coast line, all we get is lousy 158s these days .
Great clips. Sorted of busted as a 37 crank in the clips taking fots at St Bees :-)
HaHa..Sorry about that..You were famous well before that :)
Lovely
There is just something about the engine sound on a class 37
I must agree with You Paul
Love the 37's...what are they replacing them with ?
class 68's Michael..
desdemona77 Oh okay. Better than a DMU !
Why are they bring replaced?
Very nice video there being replaced by 68s soon I filmed them further up at Nethertown
Cheers Bridgefoot
I personally know someone who drove these up until last year on the rhymney line he said very loud
In side
60s ye
70s ye
80s maybe
90s no
All though these are iconic it's been a joke that the British rail net work was still running these in the 90s
And what I mean by there is there kick out tons of pollution they are from the 60's as reminiscent as they are look at every other rich country and its trains LOOK AT OURS shocking to say the least we really fall far behind every rich nation when it comes to trains etc even today
RIP off and cheap looking
By the time HS2 comes on track it will be out dated

Is Michael still driving real trains?
the 37's are to be replaced by T&T 68's.
Love it, great stuff.

Blame USA want emu?
When I read this, the voice I could here was like a bitchy teenage girl’s..
Who knew they were acting as push me pull yous?
What a fucking glorious sound, 24 cylinders and 4 Napier turbos sitting there hunting away... Makes me miss the EE's here even more...
Nothing like a turbo the size of a washing machine drum spooling up
On one part I saw a fire
A classic example of not knowing when to stop filming, i.e when nothing is happening!
You had a long day luv ?

With comparable amount of soot, a steam locomotive could at least run on renewable firewood...
