I'm living in Kuala Lumpar, and its probably the most under-rated city I have ever been to. The cost vs what you get can not be beat. Everything is within walking distance, its excellent. Haven't seen anywhere else in Malaysia though.
Glad to hear you're enjoying it. Everyone has their own tastes and that's all good! Not everyone likes Australia and that's fine by us. Keep enjoying yourself and thanks for the comment!

I rented a beautiful condo in both Thailand and Vietnam, approximately 30 US a day. So tourists can't expect clean, reasonable, priced accommodations in Malaysia? Good to know
@travellolo there are very good accommodations in Malaysia, apparently this couple didn't do their research...otherwise majority tourists wouldn't have raved about Malaysia .
Kuching-nite born and raised here. I'm sorry that your experience in the Peninsular wasn't great but glad that at least you enjoyed my city. Please do come back and maybe explore more on the nature side of things here in Sarawak. And yes, we're pretty chill haha
Just be careful, Kuching is not as cosmopolitan than KL. It is quiet place at night if you are a tourist. I visited several months ago. A friend of mine said it was boring, and he is married to a Kuchingnite!
Interesting comments! Heading to peninsula Malaysia for three week trip in September, so have done quite a bit of UA-cam watching travel bloggers and their Malaysia experiences - probably 90 or so videos and amazingly you are the only two I have seen who have not raved about the friendlieness of Malaysian people and what is usually described as the best food in SE Asia! Still really excited to get there and experience it myself - will be my 70th country and thankfully there is not a single one so far that I would not return to, have loved them all.
Really hope you enjoy it! Think we might have just gotten caught up in everything and had a rotten time. Not my favourite place, but Sarawak is amazing, hope you get over there!
I sometimes feel it's the feeling tht tinted the experience. e.g. I experienced racism in Denmark & it made the entire trip to be horrible. I had food poisoning in TH & it made the trip bad. But I never thought of writing off the place the way you did. Some food like hainanese chicken rice are supposed to be with bones but if you're expecting deboned like snitzels then you'd thought it is crap - but tht is expectation fr lack of homework? So I can understand not everything is everyone cup of tea & constructive criticism is good. But am shocked by unkind to rude words tht needs to be bleeped like f*king Malaysia (wow), shit show, disgusting, sucked, shambolic, fuming - my goodness the words!! I'd suggest you to rethink if everything is wrong is because you are not in the right frame of mind (e.g. even pigeon shit is in Rome / NY yet here is disgusting). would u even notice ppl smiling politely in Malaysia in tht state of mind? Honest opinions am OK, entitled to express them - sure, but such words 🤨
I think you could be quite right. The initial impression wasn't too crash hot for us and the constant stomach issues would have impacted our view. Where we're from those kind of words aren't viewed as "badly" as other countries, just being forthright with our opinions. You make some good points and we appreciate the time you took to express your opinion!
Too right, maybe Australians are used to vulgar words, but they (usually would be considered as) fighting words here in Malaysia. It earned them a certain degree of infamy, that's for sure.
It's disheartening to see you make such disrespectful comments about Malaysia. It's important to remember that your personal experience does not represent the entirety of what this beautiful country has to offer. Last year, in 2023, over 26 million tourists visited Malaysia, making it the number one destination in Asia. If Malaysia were truly as bad as you claim, it’s unlikely it would attract so many visitors from around the world. Many people from various backgrounds have praised Malaysia for its rich culture, stunning landscapes, and warm hospitality. If you had an unfortunate experience, that’s regrettable, but please recognize that it doesn’t justify tarnishing the reputation of an entire country. It’s worth reflecting on your own perspective and approach. Criticizing a place so harshly after a visit says more about you than it does about the country. Perhaps your mindset and expectations played a role in your negative experience.
I got really bad vibes just watching your video! I wonder why I watch till the end. The only lesson I get may be I should learn to not to complain too much!
absolutely right. complaints galore, 99% of the video is spewing ,,,,, in your case, do your homework thoroughly before you travel or you would end up producing another video with negatives galore. 1 sided point of view. don't travel, stay home
@@simwong6763 HTF are you going to make a decision if all the videos about Malaysia are generally positive, until you visit and find it's not what you expect? Really need more balanced reviews. I guess you don't take kindly to criticism.

Thank you for spending time in Kuching, Sarawak, Borneo AND recognizing how different East Malaysia is from the western peninsula. I’ve been going to Kuching since 1999 and enjoy the relaxed vibe AND the food!
The way I see it, Kuching is really a provincial city. Not much nightlife unless you are a local who knows where to party. iHMO Sarawak is more for nature tourism.

Hai Franc and Sarah thank you so much for statement regarding MALAYSIA BORNEO :) BORNEO PEOPLE IS KIND I TOTALY AGREE ....I'm local Sarawakian, on 2013 i travel to Peninsular to further my study, 4 years in Peninsular i experience allot. what you 2 experience is not rare cases. that why i love my state so much because we are more diversity, and we not practice racisms in Borneo. we welcome you to comeback to Kuching enjoy more...mybe next time u can go to Mulu.for more adventure...
@@franclyspeaking, I have to say it’s rare for foreigners to point out the segregative nature of Malaysians in the peninsula. Maybe for others it’s “normal” but East Malaysians travelling to the peninsula get culture shock experiencing those things too…
Several months ago, people from Sabah/Sarawak were beaten by people from Malaysians in the peninsula because you guys have same accent like Indonesian and Indonesian people were very shocked to hear this, how racist they were towards Sabah-ans/ serawakians. And his head was stepped by security, the peoples on the peninsula really beat him until he was helpless. What's wrong with them? I don't understand. They are even racist towards westerners when they can already use English. I think they are out from human culture..
Probably you didn't order the right food in Malaysia... Actually you are the 1st tourist that didn't like Malaysian food... Need to know how to order.. Can customize almost any Malaysian food... I'm from Kuching Sarawak...need to do your research for places that you going to visit... Penang has the best food in Malaysia
Disagree , Penang food is overrated , maybe better than KL , overall West Malaysia food is really trash , if you stay here long enough . If you just come to WM to travel for few days , you will probably think is good . MAYBE. I've try many local food here Malay , Indian , nyonya , whatever you name it , and local hidden gem , or award winning bullshit. I told you what , is just bullshit . some maybe not bad , not not as good as Kuching . I would say , Kuching have the best food of all Malaysia .
I feel bad for your bad experiences you had gone through while travelled in Malaysia.Well everyone has the right for their opinion.Frankly speaking this is the 1st bad experience I had came accross in my youtube so far.Hope we will improve in lots of areas that has to be improved.
Come visit Indonesia which has been named the most beautiful country in the world (by Forbes, CNN and other international ranking agencies). But don't just focus on BALI, because Indonesia is not just Bali... there are too many interesting places to explore that offer amazing natural beauty, also a variety of traditional customs, arts and culture and very charming handicrafts. Actually Indonesia is also said to be a paradise for culinary tourism especially for _streetfoods hunters_ FYI, after *Beef RENDANG* was named the most delicious food in the world by 2015, following in 2024 two soups from Indonesia have garnered international acclaim, topping the charts on TasteAtlas' “100 Best Soups in the World” list. RAWON (originated from Surabaya, East Java), with its deep, black broth, and SOTO BETAWI (Jakarta's traditional soup), a hearty coconut milk soup, have captured the hearts of global food enthusiasts, beating Tom Yum from Thailand, Ramen from Korea and soups from other countries; Anyway.. hopefully Indonesia does not disappoint you. *SELAMAT DATANG* /WELCOME 🖐😃
I live and work near Seoul in South Korea and everything's fine except 1 thing is peoples, because they don't open mind for you or even welcome, so rude and so racism against foreigner and his buddy meme country Japan is also the same, but anyway I would say Japanese would less racism than the Korean.
I lived in Japan for 1 year and had a wonderful experience with the locals. I noticed that those who didn't get along with them were what's called "KY" (空気読めない) = "can't read the air". People that don't know how to be normal and interact with others. You're calling the people of 2 entire countries rude and racist. If you're going to Korea and the locals hate you, then go to Japan and the locals hate you...I'm sorry to say, I think it's time to start looking at yourself pal.
It's good to hear something different from a traveler to Malaysia. 14:55 Ouch. That is really a different take on Georgetown. I think your expectations had been placed too high due to the praises you've read... 17:00 I think Ipoh is a bit underrated imho... Homelessness is undeniably a problem and unfortunate they are those who fell through the cracks. More often than not they have mental issues as well. 20:14 KL is a city and many activities have gone into malls... you can find go-kart at Lalaport, indoor theme park at Berjaya Time Square, etc.... 20:35 Oh, yes! That's not just you complaining about that. Fellow Malaysians have been saying that over the years but... 21:09 Culture in KL... don't bother. Bits and pieces here and there... Maybe Kampung Baru is the only place to see some of that... 23:18 Your take on being sick eating Malaysian food tend to depend on where and what you eat, I think... My BIL's first trip to this region (he also visited Thailand & Lombok, Indonesia) from the UK had no tummy issues. Malaysian Bornean people travelling to the peninsula do have gastronomical problems too due to the differences in our food culture. Can't comment on the bone-y meat. 🤭 25:33 If you mean by "a lot less diversity" to mean that there are less foreigners or non-indigenous people there other than Chinese, then that would be quite correct. But the inhabitant of Kuching consists not only of the Chinese and Malay people but also the many Dayak ethnics. The problem is that you can't differentiate between us because to the untrained eyes, we all look similar. You will only see the diverse people in Kuching during events. The harvest festival would have showcased lots of the cultures of the people of Kuching because that is the time they will dress up in their respective traditional costumes. You missed that. East Malaysians are definitely more chilled. Some people call Kuching a city with a small town vibe. 29:20 😂 Yep. Maybe when you do come back again another time, hopefully you have a better experience. Of course, do come back to East Malaysia.
LOL....we are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HAPPY to see you get out from Malaysia...PLEASE DONT COME BACK FOREVER....why i think both of you..your face look weirdly funny and suspicious..
Commenting at the beginning of the video, fascinating to hear someone say they hated Malaysia. Glad you loved Kuching though as that's where I'm moving to from the UK. Visiting for the first time in the summer 🏝️ 🌞
Oh well! Two less tourists to have to compete with next time I go there. Btw…Penang is a historic city. You are entitled to your opinion. Means more food for me. Good luck!
I guess if you don like a state in a certain country and the people within that state and never actually research about it , you would say so many negative words that would wanna hurt and just intentionally trying to annoy the other party. I m glad that you intended not to come back to Malaysia anymore because it will be a toxic for both party. As for me, a Singapore person, Malaysia is a unique country with many races and we get along well with each other. Shopping and food are a paradise. And many races like Malay, Indian, Chinese n English and more races in unity, not like other countries that I have ventured. Both of you said might be true but other countries also do have that vibe too so try to be cool about it.
Thank you for your feedbacks. Im sure we will improve over time. Do visit us from time to time. Who knows maybe you will discover new passion in Malaysia. Safe travel..
This is kind of odd to see a first negative review ever about Malaysia! But again, different people different opinions/experiences. but still..pretty much like 100% youtubers out there are so much in love with the country despite a few bad experiences they had. Now ur making it 99% lol. So this is really weird for me to see this kind of review haha.. No hate, just my honest feedback
I notice that instead of people and the government in a country changing the legitimate concerns tourists have, it's always the same response. We are perfect, go home.
Good to know that Sarawak ( Malaysian Borneo) was good for you, I have been in Georgetown, but 6 years ago, the old town is a UNESCO heritage area, so they cannot really "modernise" the infrastructure, but I agree , the general cleanliness is another issue.
Yea for sure, maybe modernize isn't the right word but a 'refurbishment' of the old town would go a long way to make it more appealing and slightly safer for walking.
Borneo kota kinabalu Sabah is more interesting because there are many islands to visit compared to Kuching, in my opinion Malaysia is not for your guys
As Malaysian I'm agree with some opinion that u propound about some state of Malaysia like Penang and Ipoh there not truly Malaysian because they are to many chinese from China that talk dirty word and claimed that Malaysia for them.
I hope one day you'll give Malaysia a second chance: we hated Bangkok when we first visited in 2019, and now we're living here and loving it! KL works probably the same, big enough to not have only good sides... Same with Penang. We had great times in Malaysia, the food and the people... But sometimes stars don't align with your current state of mind. Then re-visiting later changes your point of view completely! I like KL. I like Bangkok more, but still, Malaysia is 2nd on our list! You were definitely pissed of to the max in this video... Hope you'll get a change to like Malaysia one day
They simply told the truth as they seen it - seems to me. (?) So why all the hate ? I appreciate the truth whenever I can find some - not easy these days with all the rose colored glasses out here !
@@KB3TLE hey mate, if that's hate, maybe you can explain why Franc liked my comment... @@travellolo what’s there to be “sensative” when it’s outright lies and slander just to garner high viewing and lots of comments for some quick bucks 💵💰🤣🤣
@@travellolo I think it's not because they are so sensitive, but more because of the deception these 2 people do. Just to get high views when his video is in Malaysia, he praises Malaysia, but when what he is aiming for doesn't get as high views as he wants, after leaving Malaysia he curses Malaysia completely. If he cursed from the beginning when he was in Malaysia, we understand that his soul is not in Malaysia.
Went to KL about 10 or so years ago. It was a nice modern city, some nice areas, nice architecture. The bird park and Batu caves were quite interesting. Petronas towers is interesting to see from up close. But l agree it doesn't have the energy/buzz of other Asian cities and l don't mean bars/nightlife. Bangkok feels alive but even that has changed over the last 15 yrs as its become more modern. So KL was ok but l've never been interested to go back, even though my experience was less negative than yours.
Yezzz💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼 I like it ur comment..😅 Thank you when you gave a bad comment for Malaysia. We Malaysians don't like to be too popular in the eyes of the world, let's call it a third country so that not many people come to settle in our country. Nausea🤮🤮🤮 too many illegal!!!!

Thank you for all the wonderful videos made from your time in Malaysia. Whatever and wherever your experience is, it's part of your journey. No worries, we appreciate you watching and i'm sure we got things wrong, nobodies perfect and nowhere is perfect. Just wanted to share our experiences and feelings to be a parallel to all the others that give nothing but praise. When choosing to travel it's good to see both sides of the coin.

I saw a lot of madness peninsular people's comment here. Hey. Do you remember how you people used to tease us from borneo like we live on trees, mocking us poor, hating us and looking down on us? Well this is a good lesson of how people said you people from peninsular are totally sucks. So yeah. KARMA is real Btw franc & sara, tq once again for coming to Sarawak and saying that we are the most delight people of malaysia. Not the peninsular. Come back again to Sarawak😁
I'm sorry for the experiences y'all faced during your trip in Malaysia. Best way is to do some research in terms of food when it comes to west side. Personal opinion I think Penang has really good food despite being as our food rival here in Sarawak. So I'm surprised you guys had terrible experience there. Regardless, I'm glad y'all have a great time in Sarawak and hope to see y'all back here! Ohhaaaaa!!! 😊
Oh side note, pay no attention to hate comments and threats. I sincerely like the honesty y'all put out here. But some people are just not open with criticism. So please understand and sorry for the negative comments y'all received thus far from this Malaysia trip videos.
I love how Malaysians are seething in the comments 😂 what you said about Penang is true. They can't take criticism. And I noticed the hate comments aren't from ethnic Chinese minority but the Malays and natives.
Hi Guys, can you give a rundown on how much you have spent in each country. I have been to KL but way back in 2012 and the only thing good about it was the Tiger Beer in China town which came in a frozen glass
Come over to Kuching next time and try the 1602 beer. Or better still… the myriad of tuak (rice wine) flavours. If you’re lucky, you might find the “langkau”. 😉
Luv the open honest video as always , I understand where you are coming from about Malaysia . I did go there in 2009 for a week 😎 . Ah yes , KLIA2 - I was there for 2 hours before coming to Danang and I remember the corridors . Appreciate the summary on Malaysia & look forward to plenty of good vibes in Cambodia 🇰🇭 Take care 🤩👍👋🤠✌️🙏
Appreciate you coming back Ant. Not the place for us, but that's just our opinion. Such a terrible airport, the worst one i've visited in my memory. Just poorly planned and not a good time. Most airports aren't, but this one is on a different level. The goodest of vibes coming out of Cambodia!
I used to keep this impression that Mat Salleh are smart people. Apparently some have prove me wrong. How can Sabah & Sarawak are said to be nice but then Malaysia sucks? Hello.. it is like saying Melbourne is nice but Australia is sucks. I smell something fishy here. Like a personal vendetta. Why not just write "our time in Malaysia sucked". That's more diplomatic mates.
Nah, no deleting comments our end. There's dummies from every country. I think that would be a fair thing to say. You can enjoy one place in a country but find the overall of it disappointing. I think the title would be exactly the same as it's on our channel and we're expressing our opinions. Same same.
This is the second video about the dissatisfaction of traveling to Malaysia from both of you. If you think you will get a negative response from Malaysians, you are wrong because we are educated citizens who are open to various opinions. This is the first video of criticism of Malaysia from European tourists compared to those who travel back and forth to Malaysia. Don't be sore about criticism and instead thank you for giving free publicity to our country. Or in this way you feel you will get more views and increase your income, so good luck. I know it's not easy to make a living on UA-cam.
If you read the comments you'll find that's not the case. But that's fine, every country has people like that. Surprised to hear it's the first, but that's good. No where is perfect and each country will have it's fans and critics. Thanks for the comment.
If you are educated citizens then why some of you people treat us borneo people like garbage? I remember i studied there people ask me weird question and always not friendly with us borneo people?
Really sorry to learn that you did not have a good time in malaysia. maybe the country do not meet most of your expectations, due to over hyped maybe. we will strive to do better, and pls dont give up on us. have a great days ahead head.
You guys have got a chronic case of "it's not Thailand-itus" - which is perfectly understandable, Thailand rocks and that becomes even more apparent when you travel to a near-by or neighbouring country
Planning to spend a week in siem reap in july so was interested in transport options from the airport. You took a grab, is the bus no good. Airport taxis too expensive.
Taxis for sure too expensive. Not sure on the buses. We found grab the best bet just based on being tired and wanting to get to the place and rest ASAP.
Back in the day when me and aussie/brit mates did our visa runs to George town which the last one was 32 years ago Thailand was sort of different then in what you could and couln't get so we appreciated George town for those things like pickled onions and many other items including a decent draught beer in a pub which was a godsend in those days, as for the rundown buildings and streets they captured my immagination of a bygone colonial era of mixed cultue which to me was really like walking aroung a streets of museum's I let my mind rest on those things because if they were gone you'd never have those glimpses of a fast chabging world, but I know what you mean about Malaysia it's nowhere near the fun of the other countries in S.E.Asia.
Things change and i'm glad you enjoyed your time in the country those years ago. That's a fair point in regards to the place being like a museum, they do need to take care of it a little better we feel. Totally agree. It just didn't do it for us, but on UA-cam you can see many people enjoy it. Each to their own 😊
I for one am really happy that you are in Cambodia. I knew that you had a rough time in Malaysia but it seems way worse than I thought. Sarah;s eye roll about the chicken bones seem to sum up the whole experience. That sucks. I will go to experience it myself, but I will be making sure I have mu anti-diarrhea medicine.
It was pretty average for us. The food poisoning/ disagreeable food, didn't help the cause but that's just what we got out of it. Haha, that's always a good idea travelling to any new country i feel!
Many years ago I had traveller's diarrhoea after eating some Ketupat (served cold) from a stall in JB. Spoiled the first few days of my holidays in Tioman. The lesson is to eat freshly cooked hot food from the stalls.

Where you guys from…thanks for your comment…..im so happy you guys living the country, please don’t comback

I have heard samsengs swearing like a trooper in M'sia.
Would a few videos from amature travellers tarnish Malaysia? Far from it ☺️

Actually Indonesia is also said to be a paradise for culinary tourism especially for _streetfoods hunters_
FYI, after *Beef RENDANG* was named the most delicious food in the world by 2015, following in 2024 two soups from Indonesia have garnered international acclaim, topping the charts on TasteAtlas' “100 Best Soups in the World” list. RAWON (originated from Surabaya, East Java), with its deep, black broth, and SOTO BETAWI (Jakarta's traditional soup), a hearty coconut milk soup, have captured the hearts of global food enthusiasts, beating Tom Yum from Thailand, Ramen from Korea and soups from other countries;
Anyway.. hopefully Indonesia does not disappoint you.

25:33 If you mean by "a lot less diversity" to mean that there are less foreigners or non-indigenous people there other than Chinese, then that would be quite correct.

Been there with the peacemaker rager thing with my brother. Such a vibe
Hahaha yep such a vibe 🫠
Can’t wait to see you guys soon!
You guys have got a chronic case of "it's not Thailand-itus" - which is perfectly understandable, Thailand rocks and that becomes even more apparent when you travel to a near-by or neighbouring country
u do know that siem reap is in Cambodia and not Thailand?
@@gmm5550 You do know that they've been living in Thailand before going to Malaysia right?

Planning to spend a week in siem reap in july so was interested in transport options from the airport. You took a grab, is the bus no good. Airport taxis too expensive.
Taxis for sure too expensive. Not sure on the buses. We found grab the best bet just based on being tired and wanting to get to the place and rest ASAP.
@@franclyspeaking how much was a grab?
@@snitchy87 grab was $20 USD, so about 80k riel when we grabbed the grab.
I got ya here ! hahahahahha, what are you doing here ?
It was pretty average for us. The food poisoning/ disagreeable food, didn't help the cause but that's just what we got out of it.
Haha, that's always a good idea travelling to any new country i feel!
Many years ago I had traveller's diarrhoea after eating some Ketupat (served cold) from a stall in JB.
Spoiled the first few days of my holidays in Tioman.
The lesson is to eat freshly cooked hot food from the stalls.
They are broke and poor shit tourists are expecting 5 star facilities with willing to pay so little!!!
Redirected through “Frugal wanderer”. Had to comment on your sincere assessment - hats off to you. During COVID times and now, I have followed many Southeast Asia vloggers, and they are always positive on M’Asia, craving for subscribers. I found M’Asia natives (shame on them; I am not using the R word here) blame everything on non-natives (who obviously do all the work in the country). Also, if you could take some criticism, I prefer Frugal Canadians’ style to yours😀.
Thanks for stopping by!
It’s a weird country and not one for us, did feel a sense of division there which didn’t sit too well.
Always open to criticism, and interesting to hear. What’s different that you prefer?

I really appreciate your honesty on this ! -- Saves me some grief and $ in the future. -- I too love Siem Reap from here in the US - just from many many videos the past 2 or 3 years of researching the world for my '''ideal retirement destination'''. - - - So far for me -- it's Siem Reap - or - Tagaytay in the Philippines. > Those 2 countries have the friendliest most welcoming people - and speak enough English to keep me happy ! Visa laws are the best as well for us frugal old (over 55) expats - and the cost of living is quite low in both. Malaysia speaks English but the culture isn't a good fit for western norms. -- Cambodia is terrific & in many ways reminds me of the US in my childhood / late 1950's ! Quite a nice time and pleasant memories for me. - - - Again - I appreciate your efforts to report the truth on here !
Hey mate, first off, great name! We really appreciate your comment and glad you understand.
Hopefully we will see the Philippines soon! Siem Reap is a pretty special spot, locals are super friendly and the costs are quite low for most things. It would be one of our top picks for retirement from what we've seen so far.
1950's! Really!? I guess it is still a developing country after all!
Thanks again for the comment and happy to hear you enjoyed the video. Maybe we'll bump into each other in the future 😊
OMG! u guys r the most honest youtuber & influencer!!! unlike most of the Msia based fulltime foreign influencers & youtubers from japan, korea, uk & western world who r so hypocrite and so fake!! They only focus in Malay culture, food & mosque, coz they know the Malays r ez to bait & will support them. Even Msia famous tiktoker had criticised on those matters! Msia r full of diverse culture, food and religion places but those influencers, tiktokers only went to mosque & mostly promote malay culture & food. 😂😂😂
the reason i dont watch those kind fake & hypocrite vidoes.
Thanks a bunch ❤️

Thanks for coming to malaysia. every country has different culture food and tradition. If you traveller you must know that.
every country in the world is sucked the only perfect place is god heaven 😅
So sorry you guys didn't enjoy your time in Malaysia, I guess a part of traveling is to experience the good with the bad, thank you for your video, I hope Vietnam treats you better. Be safe.
All good, gotta experience these things ourselves to really find out what we like and don't. And try to share it with the world in a not too biased way (near impossible) haha
