    To PT cable in concrete requires extremely large anchor points on both ends. That way when you hydraulicly put tension on the cables. This cable is a high carbon stranded wire cable. I had a close friend that had a fatal accident in a PT concrete facility. 😢. If any one works with this steel cable please be very careful with it. When the cable is bent and if you try to cut it with a cut off grinding disc the cable will straighten out very quickly. The end that wasn't secured by mechanical means hit him in the side of his neck. There was nothing EMS could do. Usually PT concrete panels are shipped to the location and lifted by crane into place. I just wanted to ask for everyone to be safety conscious about PT cable that is not in poured concrete. I didn't want to be a downer on your channel.

    Great idea. Keeping the holes in the center for drilling guide is a great tip I would have suffered through without it. The final plug design is clean and simple. Thanks.

    • @GarageFab
      @GarageFab  5 місяців тому

      Guiding the center holes isn’t a huge deal, but guiding the outer holes needs to be much more precise. Otherwise when you try to put the studs in, you might struggle if the holes in the plate don’t perfectly match the holes in the concrete.

    Great Idea! One thing to consider, drill your anchor holes all the way through the concrete. That way if you ever have an issue and need to remove/change/modify your floor mount (as all "Garage fabbers" do) you can knock them through the floor and reuse the same hole with a new wedge anchor. Awesome ideas! Thanks for the channel.

      Oh my! That’s really good advice. I’ve pounded my fair share of unneeded anchors into the dirt but when drilling mine I never considered that. It’s going to be a bummer if I ever need to move this.

    If you're not keen on using the circular saw to smooth the relief in the concrete, a diamond cup grinding wheel for your angle grinder will also work. Make sure to check the cup is rated for concrete.

    post-tensioned slab on grade in a home garage is very rare due to expense. poor soil conditions may contribute to designers decision to PT the slab.
    PT is usually reserved for slabs that carry heavy loads over an open span, such as a bridge deck.
    PT can also be used effectively in grade beams (concrete beams placed in-ground (on grade) for building and/or equipment foundation).
    probability of PT slab in your home garage is low, but it never hurts to check.

    If you are concerned about your PT slab, most decent stud finders also detect the cables. I was able to find all my cables in my garage very easily, and the spacing was exactly where the heads of the cables were when I made a map of them during the build. I just used the stud finder to confirm my map was still correct.
    That was a very clean install. Nicely done sir!

    Oh yeah - before installing, paint the inside & outside of the steel with self etching primer, then paint it. Concrete will get corrosive when wet (ie, you get a leak of something!). Take a look at some used/removed rebar - it gets totally rusted on the surface.

    looking good ! i built something kind of like this for my neighbor when he was pouring his floor but we went 1' deep and i welded a few pieces of rebar to the sides of the tube and he dug the footer bigger in that area because his little garage was at the top of a small hill and wanted to winch his project cars into the garage . then i built him a receiver mount winch cradle and an adapter so he could use his winch in the garage and in the hitch of his truck . i wanted to do something like that when i built my shop but had no clue where id want it so i didn't but i might later add a few anchor pots in the floor so i can chain something down to help straighten a chassis or pull on stuff . anyway another great vid !

    Just came across your channel today and you’ve some very interesting content so thanks. Seeing this build and the previous one with the tool heads I only have one observation or opinion.
    If you were to use round tube you could have the same sat up but you could hire a core drill and not only would this save a lot of time instead of chiselling the concrete but core drills can be set to levels and angles. The other advantage to round is you could hole saw the original plate. I’m trying to think of a disadvantage to round but can’t but maybe someone else will. Still though, this is a cool idea.
    Sorry another suggestion regarding the bolts. One thing that might work is to weld threaded bar onto the bottom of the base, then the top of you base is flush. Simply drill holes, clean out with air and then use some good chemical anchor. Sit your finished piece in and wait a few days. That unit will never move then.

    • @GarageFab
      @GarageFab  4 місяці тому

      Thank you my friend! I greatly appreciate the input. Excellent ideas.
      The round would certainly make things easier. The only disadvantage I can think of is it wouldn’t resist twisting. The bender (when not equipped with a hydraulic ram) sees a lot of torque. I’m sure that would be easily overcome with a tab and a single bolt at the base which I considered in order to eliminate the small amount of movement. 🤷‍♂️

    Red head drop in anchors with bevel head hardware would be another option for securing the plate. Using a garden sprayer cuts down on the dust when you're drilling significantly. Also only try the polish plane saw trick with a worm drive, It will not work well with a direct drive. Neither will using a direct drive on concrete.

      If you’re doing the universal post that fits all the tools, I’d recommend 3/16+.
      If each tool will have its own post, most only need 1/16 wall. The thicker the wall, the heavier the assembly will be so thinner is usually better. The only tool I have currently that sees a significant amount of torque is my pipe bender. That is the reason my universal post is so thick.

      So I’ve only got experience with a total of 4 benders. The first isn’t made any more but sucked anyway. The Harbor Freight hydraulic bender is cheap but the bend quality is pretty poor. (Crimped/smashed tubing usually)
