You have to give it to the Americans - they really did their homework, and astonishingly well. What surprised me most is (a) the versatility of their communication platforms, and (b) the extend of old-school analog technology on board these planes. rendering them well protected against digital attacks. All in all a job very well done !
I had the privilege of getting a tour of the E-4B when I was working on Offut AFB's 2gwlan installation back in 2009-10. It's impressive, very utalitarian. No frills, and a lot of old technology. One thing they don't talk about in the video is the huge ULF antenna that gets reeled out the back of the plane. The spool that houses it when it's not deployed is huge, I believe it's over a mile long. Very cool.
It has a combination of new as well as the old technology. In a world wide emergency, older systems may have to be called upon to communicate in any form possible which E-48 is capable of.
I was a crew chief on the E4-B. It's existence and primary mission purpose has never been denied. It is not a flying bunker it is to provide communication in a disaster just to issue emergency war orders. If it really has anti-missile and rocket systems, we the maintainers were unaware of that. There is only one plane is on alert status at a time unless if there is a request to have the other two on alert status the only time was before and after 9-11. One plane is always in depot level Maintenace. It is used to take the Secertary of Defense on Diplomatic trips. During the Clinton years a certain Secertary of State refused to fly on it and was heard saying "Doomsday plane my ass it is broke!!"
I agree. These aircraft have been known about since they were built, late 70s I believe. They're the 'Flying Pentagon' and not the 'Flying White House'

The AF should have budgeted for a replacement a decade ago. The functionality can’t be manufactured overnight. Finding a replacement platform will be challenging with the 747-8 line closing down. The aircraft is almost 50 yrs old and needs to be replaced.
@@gfuentes8449 The AF sent out a Request For Proposal (RFP) to replace the E4B in 2021. In 2023, Boeing was eliminated from the competition because it didn’t want to meet the pricing on the contract. The replacement will probably be an Airbus unless Boeing comes back to the table.
It may come as a surprise to some Americans, but after a possible nuclear war, it doesn't matter where anyone is. Even if this plane can still take off undisturbed, it has to land at some point. Yes, the air tankers also have to take off and land. But after a nuclear strike there will be no more airports. A flying "bunker" that needs around 2 km of runway doesn't need anything at all. The question arises as to why such an aircraft would be built at all when every physicist, every engineer and every sensible person knows what happens on Earth after 20,000 nuclear warheads are detonated. In comparison, the game/series “Fallout 4” would be a harmless number. Realize that.

God bless Joe Biden and his Entire team, for this great Nation. He deserved it. He born, grew up and has all the knowledge and experience of a Politician and a Great President of United States of America.
The big Point here; is who will supply the necessary sized airframe or large fuselage needed, for the next generation USAF E-4B replacement aircraft? The only two reasonable airframes at present, these are either a Boeing 747-8 4-engine freighter or passenger aircraft, with use of second hand airframes. Or similarly a second hand purchases of Airbus A380 4-engine passenger aircraft, or the US DoD having to think of using the likes of USAF Boeing C-17 transport 4-engine aircraft already in use too,. However, the USAF need all the C-17 transport aircraft they have, so really cannot afford to reduce this number, or the US DoD would have to ask Boeing to reopen C-17 production or 747-8 production and at what cost to the US Taxpayers too? There is no suitable 4-engine airframe currently in production large enough, to the size of the four Boeing E-4B's (747-200's), anywhere in the Western Aviation world. Boeing must know this too, unless the US Government and US DoD plus USAF, are going to fund a multi-billion dollar all new super large airframe development and research plus production too, that is for just for a limited 4 aircraft production run. Which is highly unlikely, the only option then left open to the USAF and US DoD, is to down size to basically a large body airframe, the likes of either Boeing 777-9X or 777-10X long-range, wide-body, twin-engine jetliners. Or look to Airbus to supply the necessary airframe, with either E-4B replacement based on Airbus A350-900ULR long-range, wide-body, twin-engine passenger aircraft. Or a new variant of the A350-1000 maybe A350-1000XLR extended long-range, stretched-wide-body, twin-engine passenger aircraft possibility too? However Airbus would have to work with or be the airframe supplier, to a major US Defence Aerospace Company, to get such a defence contract from the US DoD, in other words Airbus would need to be in partnership, with Lockheed Martin, or Northrop Grumman or Boeing even, maybe BAe Systems in the the United States possibility too. Or maybe a Boeing 787-9X / 787-10x variant, long-range and stretched wide-body, twin-engine jetliners, could be offered as a suitable airframe to be used for a replacement for the E-4B's? Again Boeing would have to be directly or indirectly involved, with going with a Boeing 777 variant or a 787 variant, especially over new built airframes, even if Lockheed Martin, or Northrop Grumman or maybe BAe Systems in the the United States, were awarded a US DoD contract to supply the next generation of the E-4B platform too. Which or at the end of the day, Boeing it seems will play some involvement, in a future replacement of the USAF E-4B aircrafts, but US DoD contract terms will need changing first it seems?

Fat cat government contracts. Just like it takes 4 yrs to refuel an aircraft carrier. If that was the private world it would be done in a matter of months.
I don't understand how a video like this can be shown, if this in fact is the real plane? Either misinformation, or blatant statement of US power(as a deterrent, which i agree with). 150 hours plus before it needs to find a safe land area. Meaning it can do 3 to 4 times longer than that if needed.
