My buddy had a psychosis once and that was one of the more brillant ideas he had during that time: Coming up with this simple set of criteria, which boils down to one simple question: "Is it fun or is it lame? "
Saved up & bought 3 BMPCCs, 2 BMCCs 2.5K & 1 BMPC 4K and couldn't be happier. Shoot my entire PBS TV Series with them. Yes, there's quirks with each one of these, but not as bad as anyone told me prior to purchasing them. Will never get rid of them and I'm still working on getting the best image quality out if them. Kingston cards work flawlessly with the BMPCC and Sandisk Ultras for the BMPCC/BMPC. Haven't even touched the DNG Raw yet... and not sure I'll ever use it. The Prores is plenty for me although DNG Raw is incredible, but hungry... and tapping into the velocity settings on my NLE gives me all buttery slow-mo I could ever want. Even at 30fps.
Hey :) same here. My cravings to get a 'better' camera ended when I got myself the BMCC 2.5K & BMPC 4K. Specially BMPC 4K since it has global shutter. Anyone looking to get into 'Cinema' should get these over anything else.
I bought the BMPCC OG around the time it came out. I still have it. I don't plan to sell it. It is possibly one of the greatest cameras ever made. Good luck finding one!
I had the occasion to use for a bit the C70 . That C-log 2 is wonderful. If you can get your hands on a C70 I highly recommend it. I dont think anything can beat the C70 for your home/studio vlogs. Probably not even the C300 or C500 mk2
I tried buying the original BM camera, but I could never find one at a good price. If you found one, I would buy it, you wont lose any money on it when you go to sell it. I ended up buying a Sigma FP, which is basically the same thing except with a full size sensor.
If you are willing to put up with the pain of using an OG BMPCC for the image, you might as well give the OG EOS M with magic lantern a go too. It's menu system and settings are insanely annoying to use, but with the the help of Zeek's channel you can get the right settings dialled in. The huge crop factor (in the non pixel-binned modes) combined with the 18-135mm nano usm efs lens, ends up being like a 54-400mm lens and the OIS is so good you can hand hold it. Altho you do need to manual focus, manual expose etc. Also in the wider modes (i would usually use 2.5K FRTP) you cant see the whole frame lol. I can get decent wildlife shots with it, genuinely looks filmic to me, maybe the grain helps, its not a good idea to go above iso200
The unicorn is the Sirius dog star. Good luck carrying 56 batteries for the day. 800 is a rip off. Get a gh2 with apocalypse now firmware. Scorcesi' s favorite footage ever.
The best looking videos you ever shot were on the Nikon Z50.

I own BMPCC4K and would absolutely sell it for C70. C70 doesnt need external ND, external monitor, external battery or focus puller to function properly in the field. It is also well balanced and works great with gimbals. I love my BMPCC4K, it is cheap and has great colors, but lets be honest - considering everything you need to additionally buy, it is a joke.

I worked in tv editing here in Norway and once we used a original pocket camera with vmount battery, monitor and focus wheel on a little shoulder rig and it looked amazing and lasted forever but the depth of field in your UA-cam studio would not work out you would need the camera further away and a really low f-number lens to blur the background
How blurred out does it need to be? I use the cam with a speedbooster and a 24mm/f2.8 lens (gives about 42mm/f2 equivalent) and it actually works great. At about 80cm distance between my face and the camera the face is sharp and the background is not totally blurred out but nice and creamy.🙂🙂

I will not stop withholding the cinema from you. :) I like using the Nikon 24mm f/2 film lens with the .58x speedbooster for a fast standard or the Laowa 6mm f/2 for a fast enough UWA.
BMPCC OG! Loved that camera very much... only just passed it on to another. The Panasonic 12-60 f2.8-f4 was excellent on that... and then the Meike T2.2 cinema lenses are great too (currently using on the 4K) 12mm, 16mm and 25mm... the cinema was mine... and I sold it!
@@cameraconspiracies I've been refreshing my UA-cam page all week and it finally just showed up that you replied lol. I'll gather all the parts tonight and shoot you an email with pics and you can make your choice
I would get the 4k. I'll buy the original just for fun to experiments and if was cheap. I did bought a 5D mark ii, and I love it so far for creativity stuff. But 4k can be sold easily if you don't use it later.
Dude get that Blackmagic Pocket. I like the original way more than the 4k. It shoots actual Cinema raw as well as prores so files are giant! If you want another option look into the Micro cinema camera. Same exact sensor. Full size HDMI. Battery is way better. You don’t get to have a screen so you need an external but the thing is the size of a GoPro and shoots 1080/60. And quick note, the Blackmagic OG and Micro sensor have DGO as well. It was never publicized but it’s the Fairchild sensor company which is owned by the same company that makes Arri sensors.
Some of the older Blackmagic cameras are a bit finicky when it comes to memory cards. I don't know if the original Pocket Cinema camera suffers from this, but it's something to keep in mind. I did use a Blackmagic Micro Cinema camera for a while and it has the same sensor as the original pocket camera and I believe it's still available (it was recently). But I stopped using it because I didn't like dealing with Cinema DNG raw and the other files were still large and the color was harder to get looking normal. The Pocket 4K is amazing for a lot of things and the display is 1080p. It's not flippy, but it's the best display I've ever seen on a camera. The interface and touch-screen controls are so intuitive and simple. It's my favorite camera to use and lasts many hours with a V-mount battery. The only reason I stopped using it is because I ended up in situations where I was using two of them, and if I was recording anything that was moving even a little (like an interview subject who kept leaning backward or forward during an interview), I couldn't manually focus both cameras myself, so one angle would always end up out of focus at times. So I needed something with continuous autofocus. Also, once "rigged out" with a V-mount battery, they were a bit heavy and cumbersome. But they produced excellent results quite easily, had great color (in my opinion) had a fantastic display (but not flippy), could record 4K RAW to a cheap SD card, and the fan meant I could (and did) record for hours at a time without issue.
Yes, I can attest that the original bmpcc is a picky little snatch, please excuse my french. Got a 256GB SD for around a hundo, it ticks all the boxes spec-wise but even though it does deliver as advertized, the camera only gives me chopped up chunks of RAW image and one big but incomplete chonk of audio. ProRes is fine though and way less data so 🤷🏻♂️
@@uhuhno6441 Yeah, I had a 256GB Prograde Digital memory card that would even do Cinema DNG in my micro cinema camera. But I had other cards that were just as fast (or faster), but they dropped frames, or just wouldn't be recognized (depending on the card). Cinema DNG looked great, but it was a touch fiddly to work with (for whatever reason, my computer didn't love transferring over tens of thousands of files at once, lol). So I too mostly used ProRes. I like ProRes, but the colors came out different for me compared to Cinema DNG and took longer to get looking correct. Ultimately, for the my particular use case, I found a Z-Cam E2c a better fit. Small-ish, 10-bit, H265 files recorded onto any SD card or an external SSD worked fine for what I was doing. Of course, if anyone has an application where the camera or subjects have to move very fast at all, just know that the E2c has some of the worst rolling shutter I've ever seen.
How the hell are you getting away with saying words wrong? I spelled an acronym wrong in my last video and had every armchair Cisco and Ebert in the northern hemisphere coming out of the woodwork to criticize my very existence for it.
BMPCC had the perfect sensor. Sadly none of their new models have that much black magic. Unfortunately I already sold mine to someone who can use it to make nicer things than I could. C70 is very interesting too but BRAW and ergonomics won, and thus I chose URSA Broadcast G2.
You had a Panasonic gh6...better more practical that BM or C70..best Stabe.... But looking forward for the comments when you get the other cams...more walking and nature videos...those are the best
I only shoot stills and just want to become a decent photographer, at least to my own critical assessment. Since about 9 years now more serious. I still hate most of my shots, even more so now then when I started. Good that nobody told me how hard it will be when I started with it. Dunning-Kruger-curve bottom like forever… I just stick with the modern and vintage micro four looser gear I keep collecting, because it is not the cameras fault and I love Olympus. Your videos resonate a lot with me, because it somehow consoles me to see your barely hidden frustrations with what you want to achieve. The way you present and counter it with humor is ingenious! ❤
I wish BM would do a 6k pro with IS, flip screen, RF mount so you could use the canon adapters and expand photo settings. the 6k pro does a 20 megapixel still.
What camera did you have in your flying saucer? It must have some special sauce to cope with all that spinning, a high fps perhaps but no cinema I suppose.
O that would be fun to see :D I have it but it has quirks that you would hate. Inage is fantastic though. But for vlogging, ehm no :D the preamp is terrible, sounds like a phone from 1920. If you do it it, i highly recommend the laowa 7.5mm (23mm eq) or leica 9mm (27mm eq). Did you consider the eos m with magic latern?
The Canon c70 it's getting cheaper but on second hand. In Germany saw 1 for 2700 euros and another one for 2900 euros so not a bad price to be honest. But also old Red cameras are going down and they have a very good image quality but needs a lot of accessories.
Please get a BMPCC :D The camera is such a joy! I'm a proud owner of the camera and just love filming with it even though it can be a pain in the ass often times. Stabilization in some way is definitety neccessary and make sure to get one with a cage included because they are hard to find. For battery life use the Sony NP adapter, and with SD cards the camera is very picky, but the Kingston Canvas Select Plus SD are inexpensive and work perfectly with RAW.
I couldn’t stand the BMPCC the times I played with it. If you want a 2012 camera, with the cinema, you should get yourself a Red Epic! That was a camera that still holds a place in my heart!
The 4k doesn't do the storing-in-the-pocket very well. The original has more moire in raw than in prores so it needs some vague filter. It also has great lowlight capabilities when combined with a pvs14 lens or neatvideo.
I would love some BM episodes! If you can, please do! Hey, even 6K would still be great (although more $). The 6K footage even produced as 1080 looks better to me than the 4K.
Find whats fun for you. And we will like it. I would be interested in gardening chanel where you learn with us and all the indoor growing gear like lights and air rooting. I eat a lot of produce and would love to grow it indoors.
I shot a short Western film a week after the offered Raw in firmware and I had to just do the math and pray I cut before any shot choked... heck the camera took a spill and the HDMI port broke - I had to use that rear screen - for 85%... it a short called No rest for the Wicked if you look it up on imdb etc... anyway - the DR and IMAGE to this day.... only camera I know that beats its I own is my Red Gemini.
My understanding is the original Pocket has obsolete color science compared to the Pocket 4k. Just get the Pocket 4k for when you’re on sticks and gimbal, and E-M1 III when filming handheld or doing stills. I’m loving this combo and strangely the Olympus Flat-to-Rec709 LUT matches the Pocket 4k footage nicely.
@@cameraconspiracies I switched to burning in the built in LUT on the P4k and it is amazing. Someone said it's just as good as the Canon C70's Rev709 profile. And you can turn off the burned in LUT in Resolve anyway. Best of both worlds!
Exciting meaning youhave to do 800 things to each camera to get them up and running longer than 13 seconds and filming in the bathroom in front of the mirror to see whats on the screen.
Perfect camera would be this 12mp super 35 sensor super fast read out speeds, twice as fast as a7Siii 4k 240 xavc all-i, 1080p 480 1080 should be downsampled from 10mp 4k 120 prores raw All internal recording Perfect digital and Ibis stab combo (no wobbling and minimal jerks) Better colour science (Canon and Fuj mix) Good battery life Body weight nor more than 700g a7Siii's evf a7RV fully tiltable high res display May be an internal fan Autofocus of new zv e1 for video and R6 ii for photos Dual gain iso of Canon c70 Easy menu of Canon For perfect lenses - Lenses should have stab like Canon RF L lenses 3d pop of Zeiss classic Linear autofocus rail of Sony g lenses Minimal focus breathing If you had everything mentioned above you would not look for anything more for the next five years.
BMPCC4K go for it I have 2 of them even the post gyrostabilisation in resolve is working sometimes😂😂😂 and we'll with your 200 leica could be a perfect match...AF is not working at all...and 120 fps a crop but and no 4 K ...but I would love your opinion buu one used they are cheap nowdays but sometimes USB c port on them doesn't work...and get an USB c condor blue or violet (Gerald's cable )

Too wide on a regular mft sensor since it's *zero distortion©®™* (the outer parts of the frame look weirdly flattened out like you're playing OG Counterstrike from the 1640s) but with the crop, it looks awesome. It just cuts off the part of the image that looks funky yet it's still pretty wide and with no fish eye distortion. Actually gives you the illusion of full frame when you're focused on something up close. Pretty mind blowing.

V mount set up with atomos ninja for my Panasonic s5 Kiki…. Love it! Haha. Runs forever and image is awesome.
BMPCC OG! Loved that camera very much... only just passed it on to another. The Panasonic 12-60 f2.8-f4 was excellent on that... and then the Meike T2.2 cinema lenses are great too (currently using on the 4K) 12mm, 16mm and 25mm... the cinema was mine... and I sold it!
here’s a thought the Hasselblad 501 and Mamiya RZ67 Pro II. Each one is one of two perfect photographic cameras.
You can use a regular M43 speedbooster--Canon EF or Nikon--with the OG BMPCC. You don't need the ones designed specifically for the BMPCC
Viltrox makes ones that will work and they're much cheaper than Metabones
if you end up getting the bmpcc original I'll send you a cage, I have and still use my bmpcc and I have 2 cages, I only need 1.
That would be awesome! vegetablepolice@gmail.com
You see this? I want that cage! lol.
@@cameraconspiracies I've been refreshing my UA-cam page all week and it finally just showed up that you replied lol. I'll gather all the parts tonight and shoot you an email with pics and you can make your choice
@@djmatt1 Ok awesome thanks man!
I would get the 4k. I'll buy the original just for fun to experiments and if was cheap. I did bought a 5D mark ii, and I love it so far for creativity stuff. But 4k can be sold easily if you don't use it later.
The OG black magic cinema camera is the best cinematic image out of all of these …… the bmpcc4k looks a bit too soap opera ish…..
Have you ever looked into the Sony PMW F3?
And The Kingston memory cards so far ain’t give me no problem with the OG. Which one did you get?

Ok, haven't been keeping up to date with the z-cam line up for a while now, might wanna change that. 👌
I use Cine (16) Nikkors on the BMPCC-OG and it is small and great.
You had a Panasonic gh6...better more practical that BM or C70..best Stabe....
But looking forward for the comments when you get the other cams...more walking and nature videos...those are the best
That 2.88x crop factor is just brutal though
It's the most painful thing our world has to offer.
Happy birthday 🎉
It must have some special sauce to cope with all that spinning, a high fps perhaps but no cinema I suppose.
c70 done done
O that would be fun to see :D I have it but it has quirks that you would hate. Inage is fantastic though. But for vlogging, ehm no :D the preamp is terrible, sounds like a phone from 1920. If you do it it, i highly recommend the laowa 7.5mm (23mm eq) or leica 9mm (27mm eq).
Did you consider the eos m with magic latern?
EOS M raw can't be edited in Davinci.
The Canon c70 it's getting cheaper but on second hand. In Germany saw 1 for 2700 euros and another one for 2900 euros so not a bad price to be honest. But also old Red cameras are going down and they have a very good image quality but needs a lot of accessories.
Great video as usual. My suggestion is for you to go with the blackmagic 4k.
Hi Kasey, I’m watching your quest for the perfect camera for years and I was wondering what you are going to ‘do’ with that camera if you found any??
C70, the other 2 is for hobbyist, no Autofocus for wildlife shoot?
I couldn’t stand the BMPCC the times I played with it.
If you want a 2012 camera, with the cinema, you should get yourself a Red Epic! That was a camera that still holds a place in my heart!
Wow, Throwback Thursday! It was like a reenactment of GWB getting a shoe thrown at him.
The 4k doesn't do the storing-in-the-pocket very well. The original has more moire in raw than in prores so it needs some vague filter. It also has great lowlight capabilities when combined with a pvs14 lens or neatvideo.
Love your monologues ❤ your sound just has some weird compression artifacts, especially audible when you hiss, plz fix! 😅
hello is your Leica 200 mm f2.8 still offered?
www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details.html?adId=1654786993
Before even hearing your choice of the two best exciting cameras I will say the best is the Canon EOS M with Magic Lantern....hhhaahhee!!!😅
Where can I get that LUT for the Sony!
Sony FX30 with the 2.0 firmware, 4kDCI 4096x2160. 6k downsample in UHD mode. Love my Camera.
I still stick to my old but gold Lumix GH5 😜
I would love some BM episodes! If you can, please do! Hey, even 6K would still be great (although more $). The 6K footage even produced as 1080 looks better to me than the 4K.
Casey , a few more one arm push ups and you might be able to grab de Canon Hammer and stop it.
Find whats fun for you. And we will like it. I would be interested in gardening chanel where you learn with us and all the indoor growing gear like lights and air rooting. I eat a lot of produce and would love to grow it indoors.
I shot a short Western film a week after the offered Raw in firmware and I had to just do the math and pray I cut before any shot choked... heck the camera took a spill and the HDMI port broke - I had to use that rear screen - for 85%... it a short called No rest for the Wicked if you look it up on imdb etc... anyway - the DR and IMAGE to this day.... only camera I know that beats its I own is my Red Gemini.
if you can get the 6kpro which sports the internal nd filters your saving yourself time and money and some hassle...... if not 4k...
It can use Gen 4 colour science. It's my grading that sucks lol.
@@cameraconspiracies I switched to burning in the built in LUT on the P4k and it is amazing. Someone said it's just as good as the Canon C70's Rev709 profile. And you can turn off the burned in LUT in Resolve anyway. Best of both worlds!
The 6k pro is a Wonderfull camera but the files are huge
Exciting meaning youhave to do 800 things to each camera to get them up and running longer than 13 seconds and filming in the bathroom in front of the mirror to see whats on the screen.
Maybe something will be released at NAB? (or not).
Perfect camera would be this
12mp super 35 sensor
super fast read out speeds, twice as fast as a7Siii
4k 240 xavc all-i, 1080p 480
1080 should be downsampled from 10mp
4k 120 prores raw
All internal recording
Perfect digital and Ibis stab combo (no wobbling and minimal jerks)
Better colour science (Canon and Fuj mix)
Good battery life
Body weight nor more than 700g
a7Siii's evf
a7RV fully tiltable high res display
May be an internal fan
Autofocus of new zv e1 for video and R6 ii for photos
Dual gain iso of Canon c70
Easy menu of Canon
For perfect lenses -
Lenses should have stab like Canon RF L lenses
3d pop of Zeiss classic
Linear autofocus rail of Sony g lenses
Minimal focus breathing
If you had everything mentioned above you would not look for anything more for the next five years.
Why not global shutter?
x-3000 with flippy screen
100% agree, all artificially created hype and GAS. You gotta let it run cos in the end, equipment made years ago is the best one.
C70 owner approves
How awesome it would be if you created a google spreasheet with sharing option set to view for us. Oh boy. And put there all the camera models you're reviewing or reserching. And the green/yellow/red boxes for the options you test. I saw something similar in one of your videos, but specificly for it. Wildlife I guess? How about the major one, for all of us, camera nerds? Oh boy, oh boy. It turns me on. I can pay you a sandwitch for that. A good one, with somenthing nice in it. Like Sony AF. A Sony AF sandwitch for you.
The Sigma Merrill was made with heart also. I know not a video camera but definitely a stablemate.
