With animation like this it's a wonder France doesn't match Japan in animation output. Gorgeous stuff.

Well given Gobelins is a school and these are all student works a lot of these animators are from all around the world and end up doing work for larger studios, that said Europe is at the top of the 2D animation market especially France, Spain, and Ireland. The Annecy film festival has really brought a new focus on animation as more than just entertainment but as a true art form.

I'll admit these films are lovely. But they're so short that there's not enough time to properly enjoy them. ):

Well they're made by students so they need to be short to reduce their workload and for the sheer amount of videos the professors have to evaluate, I guess

These films sparked my interest in animation. I remember being a kid of around 6 or 7 and stumbling upon the world of animated shorts and devouring them all! I can never thank these animators of 2009 enough because I would not be who I am today without them. Their interesting ideas and worlds pushed me into my passion. Thank you for changing my life.

I love the way the music sync with the animation. the colours used is absolutely astonishing, it really reflects the character's emotions and what they do. I love the story/ moral, i love the way you designed the characters as well. You have done an amazing job.

    This animation is so beautiful!
The only thing that bothers me is the 3rd film being called “Fenrir”. It’s a reference to Norse mythology and a common misconception. Fenrir was a giant wolf that was a son of Loki, he was tied up by the gods when he became an issue and violent but he did not attempt to eat the sun.
The story they’re referencing in this film is actually one of Sol (the sun goddess) and Sköll (the dark wolf that chases her across the sky in an attempt to devour her). The wolf in this film is Sköll, not Fenrir. The opposite of this would be with Máni (the moon god) and Hati (the white wolf that chases him).
However I do enjoy the attention to detail! Like how it begins to rain as soon as Sköll finishes devouring Sol. It’s said that when Sköll finally catches Sol and eats her the world will be plunged into darkness and that a great flood would wipe out both men and Gods so as to leave the earth barren for repopulation. This is what is referenced as Ragnarök (the term simply refers to a world ending event which is why sometimes it’s told that Ragnarök will come about in fire. It’s like the English equivalent of the word ‘apocalypse’).
    Still though, absolutely gorgeous animation!
