  • This is the current build version of our DIY poke poles. Both of ours needed overhauling badly. We use modified telescoping panfish rods. Good luck and let us know how you make yours!

That's Awesome, I actually already have and use the 10' Durango as a poke pole. The tip broke off after a couple trips. I fixed that by super gluing a Snell knot, closest to the tip (as a Stopper) and just tie a leader on under it!
I have seen a couple other videos where they used a steel rod to replace the tip section, you made it Way more clear as far as a "How to" and I've been thinking about adding the chair stop to the base for added grip along the jetty. Sweet Build!!

Thanks! Ms Anchovy actually built our first ones as a surprise for my birthday. Good luck out there!

The Shakespeare Wonderpole and the B'n'M Black Widow look like basically the same thing as the Shakespeare Durango. I'm from SLO county and I'm new to poke poling. Going to try this out!

Good going Ms. Anchovy, can’t wait to see the CNE team back in action poke poling and making more catch and eat videos. For sure the big one won’t get away this time.

if you want to reinforce that area where the steel and glass meet, use some rod winding thread and wrap it and whip finish. then use some higher grade epoxy, like Devcon brand. it would be near bulletproof. i've been using a calcutta cane pole like you can get from Englund Marine in Eureka, Ca. probably hard to get item for you. they're burly poke poles. i'm building a 12' pole for my next rig. been using a nine and i like it but it sometimes comes up a little short so i'll try an experimental bigger stick. you guys have the best catch and eat vids on YT. thanks for posting.

Hey thanks SRC, I've got the rod winding thread on hand. Honestly I prefer bamboo but I will say these things are way convenient to transport.

Not a bad idea- like the part of replacing the tip most. If take a paint over the metal on tip can 'help" prevent it rusting. On line for poke poling get cheap 25 lb+ mono or heck 40 lb as monkey faced eels wont complain about it.

You should do a giveaway on one of those poke poles.

What size hook are you normally using? I typically used 2/0 octopus for a long time but I’d miss a lot of monkeys, now I use small #4 trebles.

How do you plan on keeping the metal from rusting?

It rusts, it doesn't affect the use except for being a little tough when extending. A little wd40 fixes that.
