Poke Poling Massive Rock Cod | Catch, Cook and Eat!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 18 вер 2024
- It's time to poke pole for eels and rockfish again! Today we are near Pismo Beach at the port of Morro Bay to do some fishing, primitive style. With ancient techniques, we comb the rocks with squid tipped hooks looking for trophy rockcod. These monsters of the deep often inhabit the shallowest tidepools. All it takes is a little know-how and some luck to find these hungry (and tasty) fish! We show you exactly where to find the biggest ones. Come with us as we fry up some delicious shore lunch and you're invited!

Thank you!
Yes.. I love rock fishing N. of Morro bay. The coves are beautiful and if you get the right hole you can get a Nice Cabazon like this one. @. Lot's of Grassy's too. @
Nice video. Nice couple. A great way to spend leisure time.....
Looking to start rock fishing from the shore. Never have done it, but between you and Fisherman's Life, It looks like a lot of fun! I'm from the Central Valley (15 minutes north of Fresno) and love bass fishing (any kind of fishing really), but would love to learn these types of method of fishing on the coast. Thanks for your videos bud!
+Mark Pursell thanks Mark! It's really simple actually, rock fish are really aggressive and will just about bite anything the moment they see it. I recommend going at low tide so you can see the pockets and holes they live in. They will readily take bass lures or fresh bait. Good luck!
Great content was glued, but when you said grease and showed the bacon in the bag... Came out of full screen *smashed subscribe*
Hahaha made me laugh, thank you!
Awesome video man I love to fish and cook outdoors, first Time I've seen the poke pole technic
Nice pair of yams.
“Remember to poke a good hole twice.” I have an ex girlfriend that used to say that a lot.... married her sister. HAHAHAHAHA!
I doubt I’ll do any poke poling here in Alaska (I have a boat here), and obviously not when I get back to Nevada, but I spend a lot of time in between in Oregon and Washington... I may have to hit amazon for some poke pole gear and have it delivered before I get there next time.
Remember in your cooking portions to say which type of fish you are cooking/eating and describe the texture, density, flavor and quality of the meat. I’ve only seen a few of your vids but notice you forget to say which fish you are eating after catching a wide variety in a few. You did it right in this one so my point may be outdated, but since I’m commenting wanted to bring it up. Not complaining, just telling you how I think you can do a little better sometimes.
(EDIT): PROFESSIONAL HINT:
BAKE your bacon in an oven, preferably on a baking stone. It results in a different texture and much better flavor. It takes a while, but well worth it. TRUST ME ON THIS, you will forever want your bacon baked after having it this way.----Bacon makes EVERYTHING better, even sex! (Only negative about bacon during sex, your partner will want half of your bacon...tell her she should have made some if she wanted some, or plan ahead and make her some like a good attentive lover...then hope she isn’t hungry and you get to eat it all).
Thanks, great vids! Love your style!
Ur a badass
Try putting a dollop of butter and a couple of tablespoons of brown sugar in your acorn squash and sweet potato before you wrap them up and cook them. Super yummy.
+Aaron C sounds delish! We will try it next time
That’s how I usually do sweet taters, but I put it on after they done.... they yummy that way. Of course, sometimes I pretend my sweet potato is a regular potato and hit it with the butter, sour cream, chives, black pepper, and real bacon chunks....damn, now I’m hungry.
Yummy
You got her a Pan for Valentines? What a stud!
+Don G hahaha! Relationship goals
Yeah man, If you love her... Splash out. I got my Mrs. a new motor mower for Valentines day.
I don’t have no one . 😔
He pulled a Homer Simpson lol jkjk
I would be happy with the gift because I love kitchen stuff and I love to cook
Nice video! Rippin lips! I know theres no size limit but that first fish was small lol throw him back to get bigger so we can have some fatties later on. My 2 cents great video tho man
Nice shot of morro rock at the end
+Cain G thanks!
Your videos are awesome, to the point and without the nonsense. Both you and Ms. anchovy make a great pair. Keep it real and fun for all of us. Where do you get your poke poles? Where do you get the yellow bag for your fish .
That's awesome man looks so good too!
+Elijah Vilaithong thank you!
Delicious....
Fish fried in bacon grease, I will have to try that.
+heavyset0223 it's really tasty!
This is the best poke poling channel on UA-cam. The second is Matts channel.

Nice video brother.
+parlierg thanks homie, we need to get you guys out there on the ocean
Ever poke pole Jetty's? I tried it a little but no luck. Don't know which is better, high tide or low tide for a jetty.
You've got a new sub! Fresh caught fish cooked on site with your lady and good beer! What a great day! Next time try some Deschuttes Obsidian. You don't see it often, but if you do it's pretty darn good. My beer usually looks like motor oil. Haha!
Cool video brother
+Ricky D thank you!

+slim fisherman thanks!
That Porter is my second favorite. Drakes Porter is my top one.

If you ever get up north Halfmoon Bay is great to poke pole!!
+Dr. Suckmibalz I have once and it was lots of fun!
I never heard of Poke Poling before I saw you video tonight. I just bought a trailer and placed it at Pismo. Where should I go to buy Poke Pole equipment and where should I go?
There are some areas right in port san luis that can produce, otherwise head on up hwy 1 toward cambria and you'll really be in for a treat. For beginners, just try using an old fishing pole you dont mind breaking.
"Now for the true protein!" **opens cooler full of alcohol**
I used to poke pole here in Northern California but had never seen anyone else do it. I made my poles from bamboo.
I have a couple of bamboo ones as well. I actually prefer them
just squid as bait and a hook? i am new to this. thanks
+Thought Frankly yup just a simple piece of squid, good luck!
Where do u go for this type of fishing? I'm from Sanger ca. I would really like to try this out. Really enjoy watching these type of videos. "Catch n cook" especially the ocean 🌊 kind. Maybe u can explain a little more on the high/tide low tide to us newbies.
+Cruz Aguirre my folks have a small farm out in Sanger. Anywhere that's not a wildlife protected area on the coast is good to try it. I'll try to make a introduction to ocean fishing video next to help others who want to try.
Have you been to the Sanger ponds? If not maybe I can show you?
+Cruz Aguirre i've heard about them but never been there. I'd be down for an early morning session
"Remember to poke a good hole twice." by CNE. Why stop there.. "Once, Twice, Three times a …" by Lionel Richie as recommend. Then you will love that hole as he sings it, "I loveeee…. youuuu…" by Lionel Richie.
fishing the central coast is the best for rock fish i live in lompoc, and fish all the rocky shores
Awesome!
Wow grat story and grate catch. Nothing like on the spot catching. I fish the channel Islands in the 805 Oxnard Area's Johnny Oxnard.
The channel islands are amazing
Ya its good's My Last catch was a Blue King Crab hook line and sinker' Brakers Wreck Area'
Thats nuts!
ya
Healthy food
I always poke twice.
looks awesome. sadly after having 6 knee surgeries this type of fishing is a no go for me.
Is there a size limit on the black and yellow rock fish? Fish limit per a day?
green grass rockfish aka 'green bombers'
Hi!
Where did you get that net bag where you keep the fishes after taking them out of the water?
+Alcides Farias they are called dive bags and Amazon has the best price but you can find them at your local dive shop
Thank you very much. I live in the South of Brazil. I'll look around here or at Amazon.
+Alcides Farias good luck!
Great video - I enjoyed it !!

Let me know if you ever want a fishing buddy!
+clarrus12 for sure!
So wanna go fishing this coming weekend? :D
+clarrus12 id be so down but we're going to anime expo in LA!
It's like you winning every weekend.
Where at in morro bay is the area located where you were fishing?
Can I use sand crabs as bait for poke polling
+Zonester05 yes you could! They tend to fall off easy though
Catch-N-Eat thanks
Hey I’m from Bakersfield, since you were in morro bay, have you thrown lures by Giovanni’s ? I do it every time I’m there , I tend to catch nice fatties like the grassy you caught, you should try it
I'll give it a shot, thanks!
B NY looks like a China Rock Fish? Maybe?
Yes they look similar
I love Morro Bay. Do you know any good places to catch lingcod from shore there? I'm thinking about poke poling the jetty. It's scary as hell though.
+SofaKing's StupidFishing I've heard of people catching lings on the ocean side of the jetty. Be ultra careful though, it's probably one of the most dangerous places to fish
Is there a legal size on those rockfish? If so, what size?
I once hooked a fish throught he roof of his mouth and through his eyeball. I couldn’t get the hook out, and I usually set fish free, and I didn’t feel it would live happy, so I killed it.
where is it
let the dinks go to grow. if you're going to make instructional videos, you should set an example by promoting a healthy fishery and being selective with your take. no size restrictions on rockfish, but little dinks like that first fish should go back to grow to replace the larger fish you take.
+John Jackson thank you John!
if ya gonna come correcting a Central Cali local then speak right G... Lil Grom's.. wtf dinks???
John Jackson maybe he should have at least keep them alive and check out his inventory at the end of the day and decide from there
Probably a good reason there’s no size limit.
John Jackson its his right to keep any legal sized fish. Because it was caught legally, that is example enough. Especially if he consumes them.
What do you use for bait?
Squid
Thanks
Are those modified wonderpoles or eBay Chinese imports. Looking to make a set.
Modified wonderpoles! Add metal tip and some rubber endcaps
Nice video. Don't the venomous spines freak you out? I can't see myself cleaning a rockfish or a cab because of it.
Hey the cabs hardly have spines, more like rays and the rockfishes' are only mildly venomous.
17:13 👂🏼...😂 not all Mexican people like plantains
I'm just happy that she knows Latinos eat platanos. Good for her. Oralé! 🍌🍌
FIRST AND FOREMOST GOOD EATS ON THE CHANNEL!!! ehhh Bra.. Central Coast local here as well..., not fish 'n game so dont trip but I'd like to know where I'd can sling them Grassy's for 8$ a lb. anywhere in slo county cause we been slaying them just north of Cayucos, if you could shoot my Brother and I the right direction it would be much appreciated
+Jimbo Ukno check out some asian seafood markets in the bay area. You will need a commercial fishing license with the correct endorsements though
Rock fish are very slow growing they get over fished and then there are very few older larger fish.
I think its time for a new type of fishing.
Nice vids. I'd lose the folding knife. Some day you will close the blade on your finger and it will not be pretty. Short, med thick bladed dive knife in sheath worn on lower leg or arm is way to go. Dogs look like they are having a great time.
Where state are you in...
50 lb mono is better for poking
Is it legal to keep that much fish?
+Volume UpFTW limit is 10 per person :)
Those are too little. Small ones should go back in the water.
We use 80 lb test
No butter?!?! Sorry, wrong channel
Do you need a fishing license
Absolutely
Where is that
+Joseph Logan BLM land
Сопли вытри, and then or after - "staid tune"!
Anything wrapped in foil will NOT benefit from any wood or charcoal heat source.
Look up the definition of "massive" & the definition of "small"...
Those rockfish are small!!!
Where is the girl
Why don't you knock it out first before you go for its gills?
Are you Hmong?
Little one's
you are supposed to season your meat before you cook it.
Should've tossed back the small fish lol sad
