Poke Poling Massive Rock Cod | Catch, Cook and Eat!

  • It's time to poke pole for eels and rockfish again! Today we are near Pismo Beach at the port of Morro Bay to do some fishing, primitive style. With ancient techniques, we comb the rocks with squid tipped hooks looking for trophy rockcod. These monsters of the deep often inhabit the shallowest tidepools. All it takes is a little know-how and some luck to find these hungry (and tasty) fish! We show you exactly where to find the biggest ones. Come with us as we fry up some delicious shore lunch and you're invited!

    Looking to start rock fishing from the shore. Never have done it, but between you and Fisherman's Life, It looks like a lot of fun! I'm from the Central Valley (15 minutes north of Fresno) and love bass fishing (any kind of fishing really), but would love to learn these types of method of fishing on the coast. Thanks for your videos bud!

    • @catchandeat
      @catchandeat  7 років тому +1

      +Mark Pursell thanks Mark! It's really simple actually, rock fish are really aggressive and will just about bite anything the moment they see it. I recommend going at low tide so you can see the pockets and holes they live in. They will readily take bass lures or fresh bait. Good luck!

    “Remember to poke a good hole twice.” I have an ex girlfriend that used to say that a lot.... married her sister. HAHAHAHAHA!
    I doubt I’ll do any poke poling here in Alaska (I have a boat here), and obviously not when I get back to Nevada, but I spend a lot of time in between in Oregon and Washington... I may have to hit amazon for some poke pole gear and have it delivered before I get there next time.
    Remember in your cooking portions to say which type of fish you are cooking/eating and describe the texture, density, flavor and quality of the meat. I’ve only seen a few of your vids but notice you forget to say which fish you are eating after catching a wide variety in a few. You did it right in this one so my point may be outdated, but since I’m commenting wanted to bring it up. Not complaining, just telling you how I think you can do a little better sometimes.
    (EDIT): PROFESSIONAL HINT:
    BAKE your bacon in an oven, preferably on a baking stone. It results in a different texture and much better flavor. It takes a while, but well worth it. TRUST ME ON THIS, you will forever want your bacon baked after having it this way.----Bacon makes EVERYTHING better, even sex! (Only negative about bacon during sex, your partner will want half of your bacon...tell her she should have made some if she wanted some, or plan ahead and make her some like a good attentive lover...then hope she isn’t hungry and you get to eat it all).
    Thanks, great vids! Love your style!

      That’s how I usually do sweet taters, but I put it on after they done.... they yummy that way. Of course, sometimes I pretend my sweet potato is a regular potato and hit it with the butter, sour cream, chives, black pepper, and real bacon chunks....damn, now I’m hungry.

    let the dinks go to grow. if you're going to make instructional videos, you should set an example by promoting a healthy fishery and being selective with your take. no size restrictions on rockfish, but little dinks like that first fish should go back to grow to replace the larger fish you take.

    Nice video. Don't the venomous spines freak you out? I can't see myself cleaning a rockfish or a cab because of it.

      Hey the cabs hardly have spines, more like rays and the rockfishes' are only mildly venomous.

      +Jimbo Ukno check out some asian seafood markets in the bay area. You will need a commercial fishing license with the correct endorsements though

    Rock fish are very slow growing they get over fished and then there are very few older larger fish.

    Nice vids. I'd lose the folding knife. Some day you will close the blade on your finger and it will not be pretty. Short, med thick bladed dive knife in sheath worn on lower leg or arm is way to go. Dogs look like they are having a great time.
