Still one of the greates movies I have ever seen. It's one of those rare ones where you sit back afterwards and all you can think of is "man, that was a good movie. I am not entirely sure why, but gods it was good!"
This movie is a Classic. It is a Masterpiece. It is a testament to human resilience. Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins were sensational. Greatest acting ever. I have seen all the Oscar movies, and none of them can compete with "Shawshank Redemption" for the title of Greatest movie.
The Shawshank Redemption is so much more than a masterpiece. It's absolute perfection. I have never watched another movie where I was completely stunned, I was just stuck. I watched it with one of my friends, and, at the end, neither of us could say anything, like where do you even begin? I honestly couldn't believe how good the movie was, I just had to watch it again the next day, and you know what? It was even better!
I'm currently in the depression state. when I swa the movie for the first time, it truly touched a spot within me that one simply doesn't dare to go within these times. the movie was like the opening of my little box that I've been living in. and when I watched that movie which was so great, for the first time in all of the 6 years of this, I think I truly felt free.
this movie shall remain my favourite movie.... every time......I love it......the ending of this movie left me good spirit and peaceful mind....with full of contentment and joy...
i just watched movie today... and man what a movie..! i thought tim robbins really going to die. but what twist and turn with very good message HOPE. great movie. must watch.
Fun fact: Clancy Brown, the guy who played Captain Hadley, the prick security guard. He is also the man who voices Mr. Krabs from Spongebob Squarepants.
Clancy talks about his casting for this movie (on UA-cam). He was amazed at great characters actors, on the plane to film location. He also noted that this was the rare movie, treated as a stage theatre production, with rehearsals with cast. He noted the process improved many scenes in movie, with actors suggesting dialogue changes and director adjusting blocking.
And supposedly in real life he is supposed to be a very, very nice guy. Kind of like Thomas F. Wilson who plays Biff in Back to the Future the nicest guys really do play the best villians.
Took me by surprise when it was released, and still remains in my top 3 of all time. Wherever I’ve lived in the world - Japan, Singapore, etc., they can’t pronounce the name but they love the film. The message is universal and incredibly resounding
I have watched this movie like a 100 times and I will watch it may be a hundred times more. Remember Red, hope os is a good thing maybe the best of things and no good thing ever dies! This quote keeps me going...
I remember a friend told me in the 90’s, when the movie just came out “that is my dad’s favorite movie.” Now that is everyone’s favorite movie. Such a masterpiece!
Shawshank is one of those compelling films that, whenever I find it showing on TV, at whatever point in the narrative, I must watch it until the end - and I own it on BLU-Ray. If only it had ended with Red on the bus and the words, "I hope."
I love Morgan Freeman, his voice , narration, acting.... oh dear god. Love the movie and intensely grave faces as if they are stuck in that prision. Love the people behind the great classic. The Warden is really looks like Dracula in the movie. Love everything about this movie. Thanks for extending the ending scene. Thanks a ton.
I never had a chance to watch it at the cinema, but have numerously watched it on vhs and dvd over the years. I don’t have a lot of money to spare but would pay to watch it on the bid screen on actual film! Really would, unrestored it all its glory!
This movie might have its cons, like how he escaped with a rock on a metal pipe, or how did he know which way to go once inside the pipe, or why was he in the same cell for 19 years but thats not the point of this movie, this movie has a beautiful message, it is to enjoy freedom. Theres no such thing as a perfect movie, but in my eyes, the Shawshank redemption is the closest thing that comes to being perfect
old pipes the warden was pocketing all the money for renovations. Anything would have broken through those pipes. which way? I imagine being in the wardens office he found some blueprints or something...
He was in the same cell for 19 years because he was an exception, the warden wanted him to do the taxes for him and all those financial stuffs, it's the same reason why he allowed Andy to hang a big god damn poster in the first place
I remember I was in college, living in an apartment. My roommate and his friend were watching Shawshank downstairs. I was reading a book upstairs. They started laughing, gasping toward the end of the film. I was wondering what was going on. Few years later, I saw the Shawshank. Along with "Roman Holiday", it is one of the best films I have ever seen.
They need to have a Oscar award this year on this movie I don't care how old it is, this movie needs to be digital remake and re shown on cinema then get Oscar.
This was not just movie there is deep philosophy beside that which catches the nerves of audience and this motivates people from decades still going on....
This movie is a truly beautiful adaptation of the novella. The novella is great, and the movie is even better. It gives an indescribable feeling after watching it. The ending scene where Andy & Red reunites is truly amazing.
I heard someone once call it 'The ChimiChanga Revelation'. It took some probing to discover that it was actually Shawshank they were referring to. I asked 'Is that a musical comedy or something?' 'Oh no, it's a really serious film. A guy gets raped!' ''Holy shit, what a weird title to have then. Why is it called that?' 'That's just the name of the prison.'
I honestly believe Shawshank to be the greatest movie of all time. I watched the movie knowing what will happen, and it was still amazing. I got goosebumps when Andy escaped. This movie is a true work of art, everybody should watch it just once. This movie has rightfully earned it’s place as the greatest movie of all time. This is my opinion, it’s better then 2001, better then The Godfather, better then every really good movie or every really shitty movie, Frank Darabont is a genius, this was the first movie I ever saw of his. I’m so glad, I watched this glorious masterpiece of film.
people's of 21st century is going to ike fifty shades of grey, They have no idea about shawshank redemption, and bicycle thieves, they are really missed some of the greatest movies of all time.

At one of the darkest moments in my life, The Shawshank Redemption helped me rediscover the meaning of life. And start living again.

Me, too. “Get busy living or get get busy dying” and I decided life and got clean & sober.

Fun fact: Clancy Brown, the guy who played Captain Hadley, the prick security guard. He is also the man who voices Mr. Krabs from Spongebob Squarepants.

Over the top interviewer. In love with his questions. Indifferent to their answers.
Frank Darabont: Quentin Tarantino and Alan Alda, with a touch of Randy Quaid.
I see it
I'm thinking Terry O'Quinn and Quinton Tarantino, but yeah you nailed it.
