@Dave They would have been able to stop people from just slurping down the whole 2 trucks, or called someone else to take care of it instead, not just leave like those 2 thots who were getting paid to handle it.
@Dave I'm not like that at all, I would have said the same thing if it was 2 guys, if anything I would have called them out worse, but having 2 big guys serving drinks is a lot safer then having 2 thots serving.

They'd actually had the same promotion a couple of times before, and they'd been big successes. Lots of people came to the stadium, most had only a couple of beers, the big drinkers didn't go crazy, and everything was fine. No one is sure why the fans went nuts this time. But they hadn't needed SWAT teams, only a couple of people were arrested, and everything was good. That's why they didn't call for police protection on this occasion; they'd never needed it before, and they didn't know that things were going to explode.
Apparently not the increase of crime, literal smoke on the water, raid of the vending truck for free beer, mooning, breast flashing, guy stripped down to his socks, littering or the base stealing. The taking of a cap. AMERICA!!!
It's because the team only saw or what they thought was their outfielder being attacked by a fan. They couldn't see he was just trying to take the hat from the dugout. That caused the team to pretty much start a riot by attacking the fan and thus resulting in other fans to join in.
@tang: Me, too! I was a senior at West Technical high school when this happened...I just love our city...my six sons are in the military, and they are Cleveland proud, and spread the word that Cleveland is the best place to live! In case anyone's curious, $0.10 in 1974 has the same purchasing power as $0.50 in 2020. Two quarters for 12 fluid ounces of low-alcohol beer or $3 for six at a time... that's pretty damn good for an afternoon!
pookers 7564 You're way overthinking this. A bunch of people got shitfaced drunk off of cheap/free beer, then went streaking. Clearly they were operating on a philosophy of "beer good, clothes bad."
Only 60,000 beers and 25,000 people? Doesn't seem like that much unless you consider the 80/20 rule, which would mean 20% of the fans drank 80% of the beer which would be 5,000 people drinking 48,000 beers or 9.6 beers per person.
Given the size and strength of American servings, ten beers isn't *that* much. I'd assume there must have been a lot of people not drinking or drinking in normal amounts and a number who were having way way more than ten each.
They said 60,000 for 10 cents each. Story also states the beer was free after awhile. How many beer trucks and how many beers in each I wonder. Seems like that number could be waaaaaay higher
It wasn't mentioned but the reason the umpire finally called the game off was that during the brawl between fans and players, somebody threw a knife either at him or in his general direction. Not just an ordinary switchblade, but a full sized hunting knife. It didn't hit him, but it stuck in the ground next to him and that was the last straw. They could handle fights with fans, fireworks and sreakers, but when people start involving deadly weapons, that's really it.
About 35 years ago I went to a pub that was having some sort of celebration, and they were selling 12 oz drafts beer for 25 cents. The promotion started at 5, and by 8 the police had to shut the entire place down, as people there just completely lost their shit.

#DontMessWithTexas
Love from DFW! 💚🤠💚
the hat had all the straws, what can i say???
It's because the team only saw or what they thought was their outfielder being attacked by a fan. They couldn't see he was just trying to take the hat from the dugout. That caused the team to pretty much start a riot by attacking the fan and thus resulting in other fans to join in.

@@magnusbruce4051 ...not to mention the ones consumed beforehand
