Doctor Who Theme played on synthesizers by Markus Fuller

- Doctor Who theme written by Ron Grainer and created by Delia Derbyshire. I have added a few parts and made it a little longer.
several synths and 48 tracks of recordings were needed to put this together.
Always love to see Delia Derbyshire credited! She wasn't originally.
yes sad that Ron Grainer wrote the music on one sheet of music with a few written clues such as fluffy clouds etc but Delia put all the actual work into creating it yet she has hardly had any credit at all. still at least we all know now who was the real genius behind the music.
@@markusfuller In fairness Grainer wanted to give her credit but the BBC refused, as they wanted members of the Radiophonic Workshop to stay anonymous.
Nice job! My favorite version was the early 80's once with the Yamaha CS80 baseline and the cool star field. I think it took a year for Dr Who episodes to make it to us in the states. There was a PBS station in Chicago that used to link all of the episodes together seamlessly so you could the whole story in one sitting. Sunday nights at 10pm: Monty Python, Dave Allen at Large, Doctor Who!
Nice to see the modx getting some love from a synth nut, many people dismiss it as just a rompler/workstation, I love its sounds and so assessable.
I really like the modx, “I call it the mouldy-eggs” . I had the montage for a while but had to sell it to put cash towards my Genos. but when the modx came out it had those great sounds from the montage that i missed so i had to sell something else to buy it. things come and go all the time with me.
Love it Markus! Great job! Made my day to hear this!
thanks Jon-michael
Excellent job, Markus! Reminded me of the old Tom Baker days. LOVE the Tardis SFX!
Tom Baker was my best doctor Who. would you like a jelly baby ?.
Simply brilliant.
Thank you Paul
You always amaze us up ever since you started off your fix-all youtube career. Hope to watch another video of you showing us that repairimg gear can be not only instructive but also fun. GOD bless, Mr. Fuller. ☺
Wahey - it's always great to see you jumping into the performing side of things Markus, nicely done :)
Thank you Eddy. looking forward to creating something original with you soon.
Nice to see Delia getting credit for this classic theme.
I agree I think she was an uncredited genius.
Brilliant! Loved it!!
Thanks Carl
Very, VERY cool performance! Thanks, and keep up the great works! :)
Thank you very much Thomas. I should of asked you to do the Theremin parts for me as you would have made it sound far better.
Well, there's always the extended cut version. LOL ;) Hope you're doing well.
Great work
Brilliant work!
many thanks
Fantastic choice to cover. Well played Markus :-)
Thank you very much Adamski. I didn’t have anything to repair to make an interesting video so I forced myself to do something and I always wanted to make this recording as i’m a big fan of Delia Derbyshire.
Great job, love it.👍😎👏
Thank you
Awesome
Thanks Colin
Superb playing & editing Markus really enjoyed it.👍👍👍👍
Thanks Nigel

Awesome! Sounds fantastic!!!! Hello from Canada !
Thank you very much.
Brilliant Markus!. Those Daleks used to scare the life out of me when I was a kid 😀
This should be the new theme it’s amazing and it’s timeless
wow Thank you very much. Its on soundcloud/markusfuller if you want to download and use it yourself.
Thank You Markus Fuller For Making This Video And Keep up the Great Work! :)
Thumbs up Indiana USA.
many thanks to you also from Brighton-UK
Nice and wonderfull playing Mark we love it greetings from Breda
Many thanks Harry
12/4 synth slap bass workout taking us beyond this astral realm. Sweet
I should have had you round to play the bass for me on a real bass guitar.
System 8 with wood panels looks Amazing!!!
Nice!
Thank you Pete
Beautiful. Greetings Markus.
Thank you Veronica
Love it ! That sounded brilliant, I almost wanna nick it as I need a new ring tone.
Nick it if you wish. I will be placing it on soundcloud/markusfuller if that makes it easier for you.
@@markusfuller Ohh sweet , thank you!! I'd never nick with out permission. Sounds amazing , was great to come home from work and see this video pop up!
Darren Woods Hi Darren. its on soundcloud/markusfuller sure be my guest and use it as you wish no problem at all.
I think the current version is so lacking. This is much better, and a lot more interesting to listen too.
Here I go, watching Dr. Who again..
Well done, Markus! Some nice variations on the theme. I watched the show from about 1977-82 or so... and rediscovered it in the relaunch in 2005. Extra points for the Canada shirt. I live near Toronto. By the way, in my main room I have a Kurzweil PC3LE8 88 key synth and an upright 1920s era Heintzman piano made right here in Toronto .
Thanks Mark I got the hoody from a good friend in Canada Saskatoon-SK, It's my fave hoody :-)
Good sound
thanks David
Haha, cool. I enjoyed this rendition, cheered me up a lot (feeling poorly - yuk).
I don't suppose you know what pots are used in a Novation Super Bass Station do you? I have one coming home and one of the critical pots (it's either the frequency or cuttoff) has crapped out, just wondered if you could give me a heads up so I can get parts to repair it before it gets here.
Thanks Markus, keep up the great work.
sorry i do not know what value/resistance they are. at least you can find the info easily once it arrives. nice machine the bass station I had one a while back and should have kept it.
@@markusfuller No probs, I will just have to wait and see, I had a look at it years ago, they are those small blue square block backed type from memory.
It has been on loan for the past X years, been basically used as a simple synth module and a CV converter.
Time to get it back and try and make use of it. It's gonna be paired up with an STfm and some other gear.
Question, again, sorry, I wonder how much you would charge to print me a mode selection knob for my Yammy CS1X? (if you look it up it the multi row selection for functions to the right of the num pad).
Thanks for the quick response Markus.
Hey try getting in touch with novation about the pot. They're pretty good at customer support :)
Lol it's on syntaur :) www.syntaur.com/Items.php?Item=5028
@@drstupid1 I shall do if I get stuck, thanks :)
That synth was made for time travel.😎
I love watching these videos, I love watching pros at work :D Nice to see the GAK sticker, I got all my keyboards from there :D
Hope you dont mind, i re-posted my version of the theme on my channel if you want to have a look and feel free to pop any feedback on how good/bad it is. I am not very good at playing live so most of my work is programmed in midi, layer by layer then fine tweaked etc..I dont really have a very useful setup at the mo, all my stuff is everywhere lol
Hi Johnny. I listened to your version ua-cam.com/video/wK0WzT1TJaY/v-deo.html and its very good. I do like all the many variations of the dr-who theme. I don’t consider myself a pro just a hobbyist who enjoys doing things and learning things.
Pool cover but I think everybody really wants to know where did you get your action figure? Sadly I never really got into this TV show but sometimes I drive past the phone booth that somebody re-create it and put out the front lawn I want to my route I have to take a picture. Please excuse a crappy voice to text.
Thank you. that action figure was sent to me from a guy in the USA he even made the red screwdriver for it also. I think it is 3D printed.
Very nice. Sounds like the later Dr Who theme.
Thank you.
Cool, Marcus's next video, how to build a time machine.
I have already built one in the future.
$2 bills are fairly rare, Markus.
wow you noticed that $2 bill . I have had that many years.
1st comment - keep up the great work
Thank you.
canada!
I have several friends in Canada and that hoody was an xmas gift. its my fave hoody top.
TARDIS! Is that a 3-D printed Markus at the end?
no its something that another youtuber sent to me and it even has a little red screwdriver similar to the one I always use. its great that it is the right size for the tardis.
Which DAW? Cool by the way.
Hi I used cubase 9
Interesting to see you using the System 8.
I like the System-8 it's so easy to program.
I think I played with one in a store once. Makes sense to use synths with simple to use interfaces. To me, if the synth has a painful interface, like my Virus, I will only bother with presets.
DAT MIDDLE 8 🤟🤟🤟🤟😁😁😁
Awesome man! Haha Check out my Amazon Alexa skill "tardis box".. That is if you don't have it activated already. It's a whovian must have..
Sounds interesting I will look into that. thank you.
Nice system 8 wooden end cheeks you have there lol
did you use any sonic screwdriver?
Reminds me of the cheezy version used for the compilation VHS tapes they put out in the 90s.
But you can console yourself it is not as awful as the Eric Winston Orchestra version :-)
'tis a bit cheesey, is it not? Gorgonzola, I think.
The sign of a nation with too much time on its hands :-)
Is that Markus' action figure for sale? 😃
Sorry that was sent to me from a viewer in the states. it even has the red screwdriver :-)
This theme sounds familiar in another channel
so the analog is not dead after all :)
the only analog in this is a drumbrute and the minibrute2s . but they never made it into the video.
@@markusfuller sounds great & that is the only thing that matter :)
oh dear, I know that many roland machines break down and you analyze them taking advantage of the repair time, I think that to make these sounds I will do it with a behringer deepmind 12, since I never saw him in a repair situation in his workshop and that It means a lot to me, no behringer product passes through his hands because of the problems of some customers, I like that.
good job with your videos.
Well... It's better than the Delaware version...
thank you.
So cheesy oh god the cheese.
