In 1985 a friend of mine and I recreated this same song with a Roland TR-606, two Sequential Circuits Pro ones, a Korg Poly 6 and a Fostex 8 track 1/4" tape machine. I can relate to your sense of accomplishment. 👍
Matt Smith ah the pro one. If only it had more voices.
The PG Pickle so basically the Prophet 5?
ahp - no, the pro one. I understand the filters and vco’s were the same but it has a distinct sound.
The PG Pickle I’m just kidding
@@bingusmode4650 Sorry; I have a terrible sense of humor.
I just like the simplicity of these videos. No long drawn out explanations or fooling around in software or settings etc just this is how it's done quick and simple.
Corpsecrank sure, it’s more entertaining. But is this “explanation” enough for you to learn how to do it yourself?
@@brunodosreis Yeah I mean that is exactly my point really. You get lots of guys making videos that are supposed to explain it but all they cover is the software. You never get to see the actual process outside of the software on their screen. Maybe this is fine for people who don't understand that end of it but I want to see this aspect of it. The real process of making something.
A kid, entering the pastry shop for the first time in his life, is a complete amateur compared to the enthusiasm you express with your face, when you accomplish song recreations.
Excellent performance.
Look. I’m a simple man. I can just barely plug my guitar into my amp. So, I don’t understand ANY of what happens in Doctor Mix’s videos.
But I could watch this stuff all day.
And probably will.
Quarantined.
Simple! Just get some music education. But we all understand, it’s very easy
"...and then another 'heh heh hehh heh heh-heh heh' " - Peter Griffin
Damn it you beat me to it 😂😂😂
😂😂🤣🤣 oh you fatty basterd
thanks!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Can't unhear it lol
Amazing how such a simple and old track still makes so much sense in 2022
You know it's 80s immediately but you just smile and love it
I have loved this song every since I saw the movie "Beverly Hills Cop" in the theatre, and I had fanticized about recreating the song myself, but my lack of equipment and (my lack of musical talent) were big hurdles. This video, in a way, helped me to complete that teenaged fantasy. I enjoyed your video, Doctor Mix. Thanks!
I love this song. It was played probably waaaaaay too much. But I never got tired of hearing it. I can't think of another song that had as much exposure that I didn't get sick of. On top of that I was a total heavy metal guy and hated most synth music. But still to this day I love hearing this jam. It actually makes me happy when I hear it.
crazy frog destroyed this song for me
Hahahah
Yep
Bing. Bing
BING BING
Sonic47 Doesit u insane??
that moment when you finally nailed the bass made me smile for 1 minute straight
The way he starts to move with the beats and gets excited when he nails it, gets me every time 😂
Very entertaining and talented! Thank you for sharing!
Claudio, I wish you would recreate the theme from 1980's tv show "Knight Rider" It's very synthy.
He did
Recreate**please** "Second Sight" by the Dolphin Brothers
He did knight rider and airwolf
@@vincestyles1030 will you pls send the link?
Harold Faltermeyer's _Theme From Fletch_ has less of a lead, but it has great tension and release.
Fascinating drumtrack too.
I love your recreations. Keep them coming. I was fortunate enough to attend the seminar at Synthplex where Harold Faltermeyer explained the making of this song. He's a delightful person. Peace \/.
I swear I had this song in my head all morning... does the UA-cam algorithm read my thoughts now?
Gives you an appreciation for what is involved in creating music using an analogue synthesizer and even in this case, the whole thing is made easier by the features of digital recording and the DAW in use. As I've said before, this song is basically a study in loops but without the help of modern facilities available to us now. Dissecting this tune, I think, is a worthwhile exercise for people wanting to learn how to write songs using samples and loops. It gives you a good basis to start from without the temptation to immediately overdo it. It doesn't have to be complex to be damned good.
This is awesome and I think it's a very good idea to release a bunch of song tutorials! Not only is it good for your channel, it's good for the synth community as a whole. Learning covers gives people something to practice and focus on, which in turn makes them better and inspires them to create their own songs. And the cycle continues.
This should be the first song played when aliens arrive to earth
That or Tears for Fears 'Everybody Wants to Rule the World'
LMAO, Yes!!
No it should be the macarena.
WHO DO YOU THINK GAVE US THIS SONG?
Check this.

Dear Doctor, Really cool! I am a professional film composer, it's my job and I use Arturia products often. Beverly Hills Cop is one of the most underrated film scores of all time. Harold Faltermyer wrote great themes, was completely original and let's not forget he had an INSTRUMENTAL hit song. Thanks for doing what you do Doctor Mix!
Don’t know why I was suggested this video, but I’m truly amazed when I see people with a talent, and I see one right here. Well back to my gun channels.
Thank you. This is the song I used to learn to play synths way back in 1985. I was specifically enamoured with the bass line, a simple three note bass elaborated to sound more impressive. I probably annoyed the hell out of music shop staff practising in store and never actually buying anything. But aside from the bass, I picked apart every element of the song, like you just did, trying to learn how to play. I didn't do well, 30 years later I'm still a terrible keyboardist, but at least I have the theoretical skills now. This and Depeche Mode was my training. Emulate, imitate, copy, reproduce. I may not be a talented musician,. but maybe I could have been a half decent producer. I probably still know every single individual sound from Black Celebration and how it's supposed to be played.
At least you can't say you didn't try.
@@maxwebster7572 Lol
The S.O.S. Band “Just The Way You Like It” please....
Wow, 600k subscribers only?? This guy is truly topshelf! Talent, passion, song-choice, inviting and dense pace and NEVER a weak video.....for years and years already! Again, double WOW!!!
Guess I'm old school - but I still enjoy watching this movie just as much today - as I did when it hit the theaters more than 30-years ago. Thanks for the stroll down memory lane! Cheers,
The way his eyes lit up when the full rhythm kicks in. I was in total agreement with that sentiment.
If you add some more fingers you can add more rings...
🤔interesting
He's a wizard.
TSA must hate him
just wanted to write the same))
LOL Bela B from Die Ärzte has as many rings too.
Dear Harold thank you for explaining how the sounds were made for the theme song. That is one of my favorite pieces. I think that you are fantastic keep up the excellent work
Thanks to Harold Faltermeyer for this masterpiece. "The Discovery" is another song that i love about this soundtrack...
It’s funny cause the faces he makes is so natural and so hard not to do when you mix or make music , it’s like an extension of your nerves and feelings and when you create something and get that sound . Man it’s like a drug
The "Fletch" theme from the same composer is also an awesome synth tune.
One of my favorites!
Top gun theme is also by faltermeyer
Herbie Hancock biggest hit.. Rockit" Circa 1984,
Now THAT's one I'd love to do
@@Doctormix Please please do Rock It ... Please I love that song so much
@@Doctormix Yep id say rock it, get that jazz lead line down.
OMG YESSSSS!!!!!
3:53,
I just laughed suddenly deeply, when that sound changed and you stopped to it!😊
You brought back the magic from my youth. Thank you. It was pure fun just to watch you deconstruct it all.
Doc, I really enjoyed this video! "Axle F" has always been one of my favorite soundtrack tunes, from the 80's, and i think you did a fantastic job! Really inspired me to get back on my own Drumbrute, and back into music this year. Thanks for sharing!
Continue with Harold Faltermeyer's greatest work on the greatest movie Fletch! 😃
Is there a happier person in the world than Dr Mix?
I don't know who this man is... but he makes me smile.
Love this song I used to play it on my Casio when I was a kid. I never pursued becoming a musician, but never lost my love for music in general. I love watching your videos as I find them fascinating to watch how music is built from scratch. You make it look easy (I know it’s not).
I’d like to suggest doing the opening them from Stranger Things. It’s so 80’s nostalgia with the synths.
please do knight rider theme! :)
hahaha nice one!
I wonder what piece of KITT... I mean kit you'd use.
Second that.. And Miami vice!
@@vocalpro Heck yes!
I second that request.
For those who don't speak English (my case) your explanations are very easy to understand, your English is easy listening, thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Bruh, I've watched a few of your videos so far and you are by far the most inspiring musician/composer I have ever run across! If you ever have a piece of equipment that is no longer functional and cannot be repaired, please send it to me and I'll destroy it on video "properly" at my range with whichever gun you choose. However, if I can fix it, I will do that first and send it back to you.
7:30 This sound right now was like Popcorn song :D
Smallest synth in there prolly costs more than my entire setup.
Poor you.
love seeing the joy in your face even when you start the drum pattern, what a synth legend!
Awesome! @6:54 that face when you know you're pulling it off
i could hear peter griffin "Heh" to this
#metoo
You think that’s bad? Remember the time I went with Gary Coleman to Mexico?
Dude you can't unhear it lol
Hey Doctor
Please do a Terminator theme music like this 👍
Yes and Scarface music would be cool too
Yeah, and more Giorgio please!
this is what I called musician, play real notes, no quantize, no bullsh*t. Thumbs up!
Absolutely a Doctor in mixing
Very impressive! Sounds great! It looks so easy when you are doing it! :D
Dr who theme original 60’ version and current. it gets redone every season, So your take on it would be awesome too!
"OK, let's see what notes are being played here..." You know damn well what notes are being played, LOL !! ;-)
I don't mean to be impertinent, it's just that most of us keyboard players who grew up in the '80s probably well know how to play all the parts of this song by now. (Still, am very glad to have found this video and really do appreciate it being posted!
Fascinating to watch a musician at work.
DATS AWESOME!
MAKE GARY NEWMAN-CARS!
It's Gary Numan not Newman. Cheers!😀
Wow, this looks like so much fun! Now I wanna try it Lol. I request Knight Rider
AMAZONA.de:
Do you remember which synthesizer you used to play the melody?
Harold Faltermeyer:
Of course, I can tell you exactly what instruments there were. The lead melody comes from a Jupiter 8 and the bass comes from a Moog Modular 15.
There was also a second bass, that was an Oberheim OB-8. The "marimba" sounds are from the DX7. The drums are made with the Linn Drum, and that little chatter and thing is from the TR-808.
The theme song wasn't done with anything else. We digitized the old tapes two or three years ago. I don't think there are twenty-four tracks full, including the click track. It's very minimalist.
His biceps must be HUGE from carrying all that jewelry... Also +1 for the Harold Faltermeyer song.
Harold was using the Synclavier for drums, a few Tx-816 modules and a small moog modular sys for bass, many TX-816 modules for harmonic themes/sequences, a Jupiter-8 for main theme. His TX-Library was stored on a Mac cube.
Those videos are awessome, i love it.
Wow!! Doctor mix has talent!!! It's a good tutorial. And I love how he says arturia: "arrturria" 🤣 Respect you Doctor Mix! Danil
I learned how to play Axel F in 1987 on a Yamaha PSR-70 keyboard, based on sheet music. So this was a fun video.
Electric Avenue by Eddy Grant next
You really seem to be having such a good time ...
You sure are my hero - your ease in redoing these songs is so refreshing and inspiring 😎
After watching this video I am now following you. Thank you for showing how the work is done!
The Chase by Giorgio Moroder would be amazing to see deconstructed
It ‘s funny: since I watch your videos I start to tweak some of my sounds instead of using the presets everytime I made a cover... thanks for the inspirartion, Claudio! You made it seem easy (and with your help, seeing you doing things, it really gets easy). Great video!
Song suggestion: Maniac from Flashdance. Always wanted to know how to make those “strange” sounds from the intro rhythm... one it seems a very rapid cowbell and the other I can’t identify it... HELP ME 😁
Aww I'm so glad to hear that :) That makes my day. Groove on man
When I was in grade school back in the 80s we had an assembly with some guys who brought in electronic instruments and they demonstrated how one person can play this song.
Everything from 80's is good, i remember when i was 10 years old. Thnaks ! :D
The original was made with a Roland Jupiter 8
U are so talented! Amazing
Do you mean your not !!
I used to own a Yamaha CX5M music computer (same onboard synth module as DX7). It came with various cartridges and cassete tape programs. One included Axel F as midi
This is fantastic! (My dog's have all just woken up and are staring right into my speaker.. lol).
Please do the Airwolf theme tune
Yeessss, and "Tango and Cash" - Theme (Stallone and Russell)
Nishid Jobanputra great request
👍🏻
Please Do Everybody Wants To Rule The World!
oh yessss
I think they did that on the Reverb channel.
Reverb channel is ok, but not as accurate as Doctor Mix
This was good The Mini Brute is a powerful little synth
Watching all your content! Really amazing stuff. Thanks for the good vibes and keep it up doctor
Best version of this song is for sure : Music instructor's Axel F
Any song from Depeche Mode! Thanks.
All except ´Somebody` XD
Yes. Just can't get enough would be a good easy start.
That would be epic, maybe people are people since its has so many metalic sonds.
Those two are enough! 😂
Électro-Bidouilleur enjoy the scilence
Super instructional hands-on session. Like it.
I have never seen anything like this in my life. It looks so simple but sounds so good. dang!
Here’s some sugestions:
- It’s my live - Dr. Alban
- Smalltown boy - Bronsky Beat
- What is love - Hadaway
Awesome walkthrough! :D Maybe something from Giorgio Moroder next? ;)
Yeah like "lonely lover's symphony" from the 70s haha
@@HowlingUlf It needs to be 70s Moroder for sure! ;) I was thinking something like Chase (from the Midnight Express soundtrack), I think Claudio could have a lot of fun with that :D
@@Porco1984 Chase instantly came to my mind.
I just watched this video about 100 times and recreated it on the Groove Box iPad app. Thanks for posting, you are such a cool talented guy.
One of my favorite songs of all time. This was the ringtone everyone used when I would call them back in the day. 💖
Awesome Bro! Keep it 80s! ;)
Please do Midnight Express from Giorgio Moroder or the Theme from Escape from New York
With how amazingly talented this guy is in these recreation videos I'd love to see this guy make his own synth song from scratch
It was so cool to watch you break down the bass tone. Man that was strangely exciting for me.
Eiffel 65 would be awesome obviously after BLUE MONDAY from New Order. I'm here sited still waiting.
Yea agree
Maybe you could show some re-creating of gigi d'agostino tunes (in my mind) or something like all the she wants by ace of base. As a basis for this kind of series I would prefer creating all songs on 25 key daw controllers to show how it's done (and re-re-created by others/me in e.g. Apples GarageBand on the fly)
Every time he nails a note it puts a smile on my face.
I really did enjoy this video. I first came across you searching for a Juno 105 review. Subscribed and Notified!! Thank you! Keep up this killer work.
Video editing was never a hobby, but I always enjoyed the process behind. Your camera placement, your personality, it’s all really enjoyable and very well done!
Cheers
Thank you. Very good. It would be very fine if also the midi or the cubase project would be in the download.
I've loved this song ever since I heard it..it was amazing to see and hear you recreate it
Another Masterpiece Maestro. Thank you .
Ken from Scotland.
Pet Shop Boys West End Girls would be cool

Damn. Now that song is stuck in my head.
I'm feelin that song too.
Sometimes…
I'd love for you to do the riff from Usher's "Yeah", please.
Love that old skool bass
I really appreciate that you share your work with us. Very nice from you.
