Your Milwaukee M18 hammer drill sucks! (and how to fix it)

- Ok, ok, so it doesn't completely suck, but this could be an issue for some depending on their usage. Here's my issue with the factory chuck, and how to fix it permanently.

Three years later, thank you so much for this video. I am a Milwaukee tool fan myself never that much of a brand loyalist, but I got vested into the Milwaukee ecosystem because of a gentleman that I know who sells new and used Milwaukee for discounted prices. So, from watching UA-cam videos, Milwaukee does absolutely seem like the best tools in most situations. There is a little that we cannot accomplish better than their competitors, even the more expensive ones.
I’ve had a few drills with Rohm chucks over the years and they’ve always been excellent!
Thank you 👍👍👍👍 I just got this drill and noticed the same wobble. I’m getting the replacement. Thanks
Thank you very much, have been looking for the right chuck for an hour
Thanks for this and the link to the new one. My stock chuck is worse than yours was.
I tried replacing the chuck on mine. Same steps you used. I must have hit the allen key too hard and broke the gear box or something because mine is pooped now.
What's wrong with it? Some of them are impossible to get off. I have a Gen 1 and had to cut the chuck off. And the remains still wouldn't come off the shaft. Ended up damaging the bearing
I bought one like that last year and had that same wobble. I returned it and had HD replace it and the new one is fine. Obviously their quality control went down. The crazy part was the only reason I bought a new drill is because I dropped my old one and bent the chuck just to buy a brand new one that did the same exact thing 🤦🏽♂️
Nice mine been wobbling since week one really thought I did something to it lol its noticeable but works
Wow, thank you. They cheap out on my chuck looks same on stanley. I am gonna be replacing it. I cannot stand the wobble.
Just bought a Milwaukee 2904-20 Drill that was loud and whining. I found it to be mainly the Fan. Was EZ repair. Took the back off, pulled Fan and Armature out, clipped all Fan Blades at 45-degree angle with Dikes. I then put a couple drop of super Glue in the end cap where the outside of the Bearing sits and pushed the Bearing and Armature into the Cap. Put Armature and Cap assembly back in turning the Chuck to help things line up, then putting the 4 Screws back on. I then put an Emery Board thru the vent while running at high speed to make all Blade uniform. Now it is no louder than my 2902-20 Drill. Air flow is still great. You don't have to return it, but it would be nice if someone would post a Video of this.
My chuck if good.
Imho, Milkyway should step up on their quality control. I use mainly budget tools, the most expensive tool i have is a Hikoki drill, and while for a cheap product this runout would be somewhat acceptable (although oddly enough all my cheap drills are almost perfect runoutwise) milkyway as a premium expensive brand should be perfect. I see this issue a lot on youtube.
I like how powerful milwauke drills are. Unfortunately they are designed on purpose for the trigger to burn out soon after waranty.
Hola tengo el atornillador de impacto de cuarta generación y tiene el mismo juego creen que se puede repara como el taladro gracias
This happened to me today brand new Milwaukee drill first time using and I saw my hole saw wobbling but I thought it was something wrong with the hole saw, end of the story hole saw got stuck in the chuck.
Does this chuck works for fpd3? The latest generation. Thank
Buena decision amigo, esos portabrocas que tiene de fabrica son chinos y cambiarlos por estos Alemanes es la mejor opcion. yo tambien lo cambie por un Rohm y quedo muy bien mi 2804. saludos bro y buen video
here I thought my bits were bent!
PS those chucks are $67 now 😳
Guess I got lucky I got the same drill at a pawn shop it seems to run smooth.. if I brought it brand new I would exchange it..
They may have corrected this or maybe I got a unicorn because my recently purchased one spins straight(to my eye, I didn't measure the runout).
My new milwaukee hammer drill slips on the #1 setting and only works on the #2 setting. It's the gen 4. 😢
Thank you for the link!!
Do you know if the new chuck you suggested fits model 2904-20? Thanks
I want to change my milwaukee2904-20 drill chuck ,I screw out the screw but the chuck can not screw out.
very nice and helpful video for me , my brand new dewalt dcd791 has some wobble and i was thinking of replacing its chuck with rohm chuck but after watching this i think mine has almost same type of behavior as your new rohm chuck appears to be. so i conclude some amount of wobble is normal on these drills.
I have a dcd791, it shit the bed recently and I got the new milwaukee hammer drill. The dewalt was so much smoother and had a much nicer feeling chuck. The milwaukee drops bits out and wobbles like crazy. The power is insane though so going to replace the chuck. But the dcd791 was the best chuck
Will the Rohm: Chuck fit the New Gen 4's & when replacing the chuck is there certain torque setting the drill should be set on Thanks
My Drill is a 2904-20 Gen 4 Hammer Drill..
That Rohm Chuck looks Good on your Drill to me if your paying a Good price for a Drill it should come with a premium chuck or if you buy the Drill bare tool it could be offered with or without a chuck, A user then could install his or her own chuck! That would be nice..
Thanks for the Video! Allen D
Yes, that Rohm chuck is the same one for your 2904. I have it and it works very well.
Now fix the overpowered clutch. :)
My chuck always comes loose while drilling in my milwaukee so annoying , let's go of the bit
Its just a shame...such expensive tool and have to spend 40 to ,,upgrade".
There are chieap drills less than 40.
Just bought a dewalt 796 and same problem out the box, got a replacement same problem again
Do you have a link or part # for the Rohm chuck?
Röhm Extra50-RV13
E - SERVICE Dude! 🙄
Bro I think you are just weak if you can’t undo the chuck
Right? I been using this drill for a bunch of shit and never had a problem.
I’m send you my drill and see if you can undo
LOL.......Don't feel bad if you can't get the Chuck off without cutting it off. I've gotten a few other chucks off different drills kinda easily. I think the Hammer feature if you've used it really tightens on the chuck much more than just the drill feature.
@@Octaviano. I bet you any amount of money I can get it undone
now 60 $ 😅
I bought this drill for around the house and not in a trade environment.
The power is good you can keep the rest of it, its a POS.
1 the toque/ hammer selector ring moves much to easily especially when tightening up the chuck not ideal.
2 The chuck locks onto drill bits more than occasionally which is infuriating and time wasting.
when this happens it requires a set of multi grips a vice and something to jam behind chuck to stop it from rotating while trying to remove a stuck drill bit. great for time wasting in a commercial situation.💩
3 The forward/ reverse is chintzy at best and gets stuck in between froward and reverse constantly giving me neither froward and reverse.
4 i would estimate this drill lasting one year using if used regularly on the hammer function drilling brick and concrete, and thats if some other malfunction didn't take place first.
i was a concreter and this drill would not stay in my tool box, i would have bought a makita.
